it begins at the high-point of all the world. from which perch sits a slimy and vile leviathan. this unseemly creatures has eyes surrounding its entire circumference, and from each and every extends a tentacle to tickle and entice all the peoples of earth into the spiraling coil of its suctioning force. it then pierces the people with barbs to stun and poison. all are in the grip of its paralyzing snare.
through special effects the cinematist reveals that this leviathan is to most invisible; all the same, he all too real.
the camera then pans to a land of gloom and grim despair; a place of loneliness and desperation; a land where none knows the name of his neighbor; where brother lies in wait to slay his brother; where children don't play or stray outside for fear of the stranger hiding behind locked doors; a nation where wisdom is mocked to scorn and vacuous folly celebrated; a country in which all esteem themselves their own god. this is the bleak estate of those who've submitted the very essence of their being to the calculus of algorithms programmed to judge according to the metrics of productivity and efficiency. a damnable land indeed. it is a house infinitely and at every point divided against itself, one of atomized divisiveness; and it will not stand.
again we return to the leviathan and see within it the mechanics of its workings...from its nexus we observe that with most all its other tentacles it only consumes, but with the one grappled onto the damnable land there is something of a symbiosis -- as if its sway over all the rest is empowered by the vitality of the damnable land.
but by what alchemy does the leviathan secure its station? how does something invisible shackle with chains unseen?
lies are unseen things, yet they are all all too real. and this leviathan, the father of the same, knows the mysterious force of lies and how its powers are conjured. it knows, for example, that the best of lies insulate a contrived truth. say, for example, that you're a leviathan and you want to conjure the power of lies. and let's further say that you need a contrived truth to control and protect, giving the lie all the more potency. i dunno, hypothetically speaking, what if you were to knock down the two largest totems to mammon set amidst new babylon? and, just for fantasy's sake, let's call it 9-11. hell, as prelude to the same, why not control and seize the truth of gold and conjure paper to peddle as lies? then maybe premise a couple world wars on lies, all the while guarding the truth. what about a genocide of lies? maybe throw in a moon landing. toss in some vietnam, some korea, some petro-dollar hegemony...a dozen or so more moon landings...a lil global warming....maybe a dash of al queda. use your imagination -- the sky's the limit!
well, all the while, there's this kid running about the damnable land miserably serving the leviathan; but through all his experience the leviathan has tormented him, hated him, abused him and ridiculed him just for salting his bread with the sweat of his brow...just for trying to make his way without having to at the same time sell his soul to this foul beast hateful and hated by all everywhere...but, ironically, all everywhere serve him because they can imagine no alternative.
one day, while out obeying orders issued by proxies of the beast, this kid comes upon a stone that the builders rejected...what would someday be the chief cornerstone...and in the midst of this stone there lay fixed a sword of Truth. the kids withdraws the sword, knowing it to be the weapon with which one may slay the leviathan.

Phil joined us from the US Department of Homeland Security in 2011 and has done an exceptional job for the last three years, working with you all and defining and leading our information security and privacy efforts. I, and I know many others, are extremely grateful for his extraordinary hard work and great accomplishment on our behalf over this period. Although I will miss working with Phil daily, at our request he will continue to support our efforts for some time in a consulting role.

John has been a key part of the Sony information security team for several years and is a globally recognized subject matter expert. I have greatly enjoyed working for Sony and Nicole for the last three years. I have learned more than I could have imagined, and that is primarily because the things you have taught me – from technical matters through risk management to privacy policy. I will miss working with you all. I am, however, leaving Sony in good hands. As Nicole has told you, John Scimone will take over as CISO and ensure that the work that you have undertaken continues and expands. I know you will support him as you have supported me.
In addition, my relationship with Sony will continue. I will continue providing advice and assistance to John and Nicole as required.
My last day will be September 5.
You are an amazing group of people and working with you is both fun and a great honor.

Thousands of protestors, both young and old, took to the streets and central plazas of some thirty Spanish cities today to protest for the right to protest. It is a right that should be respected in any self-respecting democracy.
But not in Spain, thanks to new legislation which is on the verge of becoming law. Under the Orwellian-titled Law for Citizen Security, or more aptly named “Gag Law,” virtually all forms of political protest, including all non-violent forms, will soon be criminalized. But not with penal charges – most criminal cases brought against non-violent political demonstrators are promptly thrown out of court – but administrative ones. That way, the government can circumvent the traditional checks and balances of the criminal justice system while pocketing millions in administrative fines.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the financial sanctions the government seeks to impose (and, of course, collect upon) for acts of political protest or disobedience:
• Surrounding a government building: €30,000
• Criticizing or insulting the country, government or head of state during a protest or on social media: €30,000
• Participating in a demonstration that does not have the government’s prior approval: €100 – €1,000
• Organizing a demonstration that turns violent: €30,000
• Participating non-violently in a demonstration that gets out of control: €1,000
• Refusal to show personal documentation (I.D. card, passport) to the police: €1,000
• Uploading images of riot police in action that the government considers against their honor, intimacy or the public image of the police force: €100-€1,000.
• Taking part in a demonstration outside a political party’s headquarters on election day: €30,000-€600,000.
• Trying to prevent the forced eviction of a local resident, something that has become common practice among communities in recent years: €1,000-€30,000.
The list goes on and on while the fines rise and fall between €100 and €600,000. For the government, the sweeping new measures are all about “securing public order,” as a prerequisite for “ensuring individual liberty” – a roundabout way of saying that it is instituting a police state to protect itself.
