cancelled cable over 4 months ago.  So peaceful now.  And saving 65 bucks a month too which goes right into the silver phyzz fund ;-)

If you cancel cable/dish, etc. as well then just use the 'ol interwebs, folks.  Here are some great sites for live sports, TV, series episodes, and movies:

Sports:  http://www.wiziwig.tv/index.php?part=sports

TV/Cable channel live streaming:  http://stream2watch.me/

Recorded TV series:  http://watchseries.lt/

Movies:  http://www.movie4k.to/

Best way to watch them all to eliminate all the annoying popups is to use Mozilla Firefox.  Then install the add-on "adblockplus" and "flashgot".

Piece of cake after that.  Merry Xmas...go save yourselves some fiat and cancel all that other bullshit and go interwebs only.

We actually read books.

Not Clicking on bullshit Articles while browsing the interwebs helps too.

Just takes one loop thru OODA to get to a better place.

Try it.

What a great conversation I had when I called up to cancel my cable. They offered every promo in the book but still had no flow chart answer for "I dont watch TV. How will having much more of something I dont use at all make any difference?" ... Crickets.

They've already taken all they can through relatively "peaceful" means.  Now they gotta up the fear-factor so they can justify taking more of your stuff.  If they gotta go hot in order to take more of your stuff, they'll do it.

This was probably posted by somebody controlling Save-America's PC which is now compromised after visiting these malicious websites. He's making sure people can download and install the virus payload by providing us its correct name. Could start some shit on ZH if a bunch of the members login creds are now known.

WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM LIFE? The Tubes

What do you want from life
To kidnap an heiress
or threaten her with a knife
What do you want from life
To get cable TV
and watch it every day and night

There you sit
a lump in your chair
Where do you sleep
and what do you wear
when you're sleeping

What do you want from life
An Indian guru
to show you the inner light
What do you want from life
a meaningless love affair
with a girl that you met tonight

How can you tell when you're doin' alright
Does your bank account swell
While you're dreaming at night
How do know when you're really in love
Do violins play when you're touching the one
That you're loving

What do you want from life
Someone to love
and somebody that you can trust
What do you want from life
To try and be happy
while you do the nasty things you must

Well, you can't have that, but if you're an American citizen you are entitled to:
a heated kidney shaped pool,
a microwave oven--don't watch the food cook,
a Dyna-Gym--I'll personally demonstrate it in the privacy of your own home,
a king-size Titanic unsinkable Molly Brown waterbed with polybendum,
a foolproof plan and an airtight alibi,
real simulated Indian jewelry,
a Gucci shoetree,
a year's supply of antibiotics,
a personally autographed picture of Randy Mantooth
and Bob Dylan's new unlisted phone number,
a beautifully restored 3rd Reich swizzle stick,
Rosemary's baby,
a dream date in kneepads with Paul Williams,
a new Matador, a new mastodon,
a Maverick, a Mustang, a Montego,
a Merc Montclair, a Mark IV, a meteor,
a Mercedes, an MG, or a Malibu,
a Mort Moriarty, a Maserati, a Mac truck,
a Mazda, a new Monza, or a moped,
a Winnebago--Hell, a herd of Winnebago's we're giving 'em away,
or how about a McCulloch chainsaw,
a Las Vegas wedding,
a Mexican divorce,
a solid gold Kama Sutra coffee pot,
or a baby's arm holding an apple?

How Every American Can Fight Misinformation and Nonsense… In One Post

America middleclass, QE, Great Society, largest army in the world, entitlements, TARP program, and the list is long, are all by products of a dollar that was anchored by Bretton Woods triangulation; then, the Petrodollar hegemony.

If there was ever a “Free-Market” or whatever you want to call it, America would have been slightly ahead of South America in 1800’s, because of its coal; but far back on the 1900’s, because South America had more oil than North America.

There was never a Free Market. US is the boss of the world. America middleclass was just lucky, as they are about to find out. Wonder Why?

a) Bretton Woods finished in 1971

b) Living off the “Petrodollar” since 1973 (to finance US lifestyle with one TV in each room) is not big enough to keep financing it

c) Now, we have the BRIC’s that are anti-Petrodollar, because the (oil) pie is getting smaller

So, refresh my mind: “Why are you wasting time about remote control and the stupid people that are holding it?”

I do not know if this is an honest mistake by the poster of the comment by Save_America1st or not, but this crap really pisses me off.

If you have clicked, you may close the pop-up window that appears by Ctrl-Alt-Del --> Task Manager/End Task, then clear your history/cookies and run a full anti-virus scan.. do what you need to do and don't click on it again!

I do not know if running Firefox and Adblock will prevent the hostile takeover of your computer, but maybe another Zero is willing to give it a shot.

Check out Sanboxie, Sandboxie runs your programs in an isolated space which prevents them from making permanent changes to other programs and data in your computer.

Sandbox security software for Windows. Install and run programs in a virtual sandbox environment without writing to the hard drive.

Works great for me. Fairly simple to use.

What a bullshit warning. Why the hell are you still using Windows?

run a full anti-virus scan..

When are you people gonna learn?

Install Gentoo, FreeBSD or install any other half-decent operating system which places the burden of administration on the owner/installer, and know what it does, how it does it, and take control.

Know, learn, and understand the technology you use - it's your responisbility.

I cut the cable 4 years ago when I realized I was paying for reruns, commercials and fake news.  A lot less stress and I don't miss it.  Saving the $ for valuable items in the real world.

The biggest scam is pay channels like HBO.  One decent movie a month played over and over again.  Trade that for netflix where you get to choose something new every time.

Tom, the sad thing is most people are too caught up in their own lives to look past the headlines. If Brian Williams, or whoever, says it's so, it's so. No fact checking, no researching to find the truth, nothing but full faith in tube and press.

I'm the 'conspiracy theorist' in my group according to a lot of friends. They have no use for any dialog that may upset the apple cart. But here's the sad fact, all of these folks have seven figure net worths. These guys aren't dummies. They simply don't want to confront anything that may prove upsetting to their current beliefs.

Boy, are they in for a surprise...

We cut the cord in 2005...we do wonder if it's made us socially retarded at times and we do feel like strangers in a strange land (the country of our own birth) as if our antenna don't bend quite the same way as the other ants in the colony.
Maybe this is part of the process in which people turn into "old people".
On the other hand when you eavesdrop on some of the other parents conversations At our kids school, they sound like contestants in reality shows; shallow and self absorbed, uninformed and unoriginal....
Meh.
So we don't have cable but we let our son watch the oldies 60's 70's shows on TV. (Twilight Zone, Emergency, Gilligan's Island, Mash etc) We figure they help assimilate our son somewhat into "classic" American culture and provide him with some cues to basic human interaction. (He gets the added benefit of seeing "his people" in cultural ascendence and he gets to skip all the "dark" vampire zombie decadence and cynical narcissism expressed in modern American culture)
There's a price to be paid for ignorance and there's a price to be paid for knowledge..... but we prefer the latter

What's interesting, and more than a little frustrating at times, is that I am regarded as socially retarded for not being "in the know" about the idiotic tripe that passes for news.  Frequently, it's coupled with a condescending tone, and an attitude that says "you don't know what you're missing".  It turns out, I do know what I'm missing.  That's why I don't keep up on the latest, greatest, ____________.

I find that refering to the "shit" in a slightly derogatory manner insults their opinion of it with out shuting them off-- for example call the Sports--stick and ball games-- makes them school yard important-- Fox, NBC, CNN et al are sit coms or day time television. Example--You watch day time TV? ---or --I lost interest in stick and ball game after I got out of school.  And for real fanatics there is always the Hemingway put down--"There are only three sports: ------"

haha - I stopped watching the tee-vee summer of 1980, after reading Jerry  Mander's (is that a great name, or what?) book, "Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television" (1978)

from Wiki:

Well, one of the points of the book is that you really can't summarize complex information. And that television is a medium of summary or reductionism - it reduces everything to slogans. And that's one criticism of it, that it requires everything to be packaged and reduced and announced in a slogan-type form.

But let me say this: the book is not really four arguments, it's really hundreds of arguments broken down into four categories. And the categories have to do with a variety of effects that are not normally discussed. Most criticisms of television have to do with the television program content. People say if there is less violence on television or less sexism on television, or less this or less that, television would be better. If there were more programs about this or more programs about that, then we'd have "good television".

My own feeling is that that is true - that it's very important to improve the program content - but that television has effects, very important effects, aside from the content, and they may be more important. They organize society in a certain way. They give power to a very small number of people to speak into the brains of everyone else in the system night after night after night with images that make people turn out in a certain kind of way. It affects the psychology of people who watch. It increases the passivity of people who watch. It changes family relationships. It changes understandings of nature. It flattens perception so that information, which you need a fair amount of complexity to understand it as you would get from reading, this information is flattened down to a very reduced form on television. And the medium has inherent qualities which cause it to be that way.

And you're totally right; You have no idea how hopeless America is until you unplug. Then the realization is staggering.

Working office jobs became intolerable.

I highly recommend the book linked above; best gift ever for your friends who can read.

But...but...reading a book takes so much time, and the effort to comprehend it is enormous. If one must read, go to ZH for a condensed, sometimes sensationalized version. TV is so much easier, no need whatsoever to think.

Another comment on reading. My wife has a t-shirt that says this: When I work, I work hard. When I play, I play hard. When I read, I fall asleep. 'Nuf said.

All people talk about at work are TV shows. "Have you seen this? Have you seen that?" Who gives a shit about imaginary characters living out imaginary events! Another subculture is smokers - people who hang outside the building every few hours. The mere fact of them "sharing an experience" makes them soul-bound buddie. I don't smoke, so I don't belong to that group either. There are also those who hit the pubs every evening. Don't belong to that crowd.

In addition, following ZH each time I start talking stock market, mortgages or precious metals, I am guaranteed to loose all remaining audience, because people find me too damn depressing. Another passion of mine is mathematics. Good like finding someone to hold a conversation with in a typical urban environment. Nobody gives a damn.

Even within my own family I can't talk money or politics. It'd ruin the mood. Too many hold mortgages or keep money in retirement funds.

This is the reason why independent radio/youtube broadcasts are so important, because they provide a platform for people like us to discuss these things with like-minded humans. Zerohedge comments section is one thing, but written conversation is not the same as hearing other people verbally express ideas or interests that we share. As social creatures we yearn to hear that other people out there are thinking or feeling what we are. Especially when we spend all day listening to colleagues discuss inane bullshit.

Weekly shows like MaxResistance and AustralianRoundtable are growing in audience every week because there are people out there like us who want to listen to people with some sense talk about topics that actually matter. MaxResistance also has a call-in line so the listener can partake, and both have live chatrooms so the audience can interact in real time.

Increasingly it is becoming obvious that the people of the Five Eyes nations are all in the same boat; even though the first show listed is based in Canada and the second in Australia, they are relevant to American, British and Kiwi listeners alike. Check them out.

There are plenty of ways to meet interesting people. Generally work is not one of those ways. Join a club or take a class that is the subject of something you like or want to learn about. Become a volunteer at a local animal rescue.

Had the same thing happen to me. At first I became a bit lonely realizing I had no commonality with several friends and most of my work associates. Then, after awhile, I asked myself why I had wasted all that time talking about garbage just to feign interest and be social? Finally I came to the conclusion I had achieved freedom of independance and they were stuck with conformity to fit in a group.

There is something very disturbing about people relinquishing their lives to live vicariously though TV shows. Some things they watch are very quite graphic; almost a modern version of the Roman Colosseum. Is it so great of a stretch from group trance to the Nuremberg Rallies?

Your premonition is correct. ;-) It's a way cool and very visceral exploration of TV/video technology as mind control. What blew my mind about it back then was how it's entirely shot from the victim's point of view. I don't mean like a first-person-shooter, I mean his perceived reality is totally warped by the implanted programming, and the audience only gets to see how he perceives things. Powerful stuff, but polarizing - people either seem to love it or really hate it. The haters are missing the entire point. Don't watch it with people who find critical thought a painful exercise or impossible.

I don't know about the numbers at Auschwitz, but I do know that despite the fact the Germans invited in the press and Red Cross after discovering the mass graves of Poles in the Katyn Forest, killed by the Bolsheviks [Cheka], the NY Times and other American papers still blamed the Germans for the deaths.

Pretty amazing, that.

At very least, that shows how powerful the propaganda was in ww2, just as it was in ww1, when Zionists and Anglophiles did all they could to lie the United States into a war most Americans wanted no part of.

Oh, and of course, the Lusitania was carrying weapons for the Brits - lots of them - meaning it was a fair target.  The German government literally published full page ads in American papers telling people not to board that ship...

The lesson seems to be that those criminalizing speech or thought may well have something they wish to hide.

Amd then I was like, "wait a minute here, black people don't have money to produce this shit or to air this on their networks. Who the fuck is producing this shit and who owns the network?" The down votes say all that need be said about why this country is in such miserable shape, as those who willingly support the status (statist) quo accordingly perpetuate it.  They therefore have nothing to complain about, as regime change (i.e., the revolving door of partisan politics) isn't change at all.  On the contrary, it's how Einstein defined insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Hasn't really changed for decades. The only difference I've noticed is the touchy, crybaby stuff (to attract women viewers) they've added. Like a story about some dog finding it's way back home after getting lost on vacation. Agree, but at the same time it's amazing how much is left OUT.

IF news organizations really wanted to peruse the world and write about conflict, we could watch a different story every minute of every day. THEY ALL show the same THING (stress on singular) - (and thanks AP) - vs. mass protests and keeping us up to date on 'old news', that should remain front-and-center, like Fukashima. Watched BBC World the other night about people living below-ground in Syria. A father and daughter living in an underground room for 6 months so far! Didn't see a peep on American news, and that's STILL BBC (their MSM). If more of middle America saw it, some might imagine themselves in that situation because they looked like normal people, not civilian casualties in blown out rubble.

There's so much going on, but there's a point the MSM will not cross because they know if people realize what is 'allowed' to take place by the powerful or that in fact normal people are trying to fight the same forces we should be trying to fight, it might get people fired up into a tizzy. It takes a lot to get Americans to react - but when we do, we go full force with brute strength, intelligence, blind ignorance, peer pressure, whatever the reason, we can turn into a nation on the RAGE virus (28 Days). - NOTHING can stop us from pure insanity.

So, we see only so much; that way we remain docile and will continue to worry if we are wearing the latest headphones...
