Pepe Escobar On Blowback After Blowback For The "Empire Of Chaos"

Tyler Durden's picture

At present, the choice between the two available models on the planet seems stark indeed: Eurasian integration or a spreading empire of chaos. China and Russia know what they want, and so, it seems, does Washington.  The question is: What will the other moving parts of Eurasia choose to do? All these interlocked developments suggest a geopolitical tectonic shift in Eurasia that the American media simply hasn’t begun to grasp. Which doesn’t mean that no one notices anything.  You can smell the incipient panic in the air in the Washington establishment. So long to the unipolar moment... 2015 is "going to be a real hardcore year."

Via Gold Switzerland.com,

This month, Lars Schall talks with Pepe Escobar, foreign correspondent at Hong-Kong-based Asia Times Online.

Escobar discusses:

  • his new book “Empire of Chaos;”
  • the geopolitical worries of the Washington-New York axis
  • Russia’s countermoves in the Ukraine crisis
  • the Sino-Russian strategic energy relation
  • and last but not least his expectations for 2015. “It’s going to be a real hardcore year”

Here are two articles, that Pepe Escobar mentions during the interview:

China pivot fuels Eurasian century

Can China and Russia Squeeze Washington Out of Eurasia? – The Future of a Beijing-Moscow-Berlin Alliance

Furthermore, here is Pepe Escobar’s latest take on the issue:
Empire of Chaos vs. Eurasian integration.
eurasian_integration_vs._the_empire_of_chaos

*  *  *
And finally some concluding excerpts from Escobar...

At the same moment that China is proposing a new Eurasian integration, Washington has opted for an “empire of chaos,” a dysfunctional global system now breeding mayhem and blowback across the Greater Middle East into Africa and even to the peripheries of Europe.

In this context, a “new Cold War” paranoia is on the rise in the U.S., Europe, and Russia.  Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, who knows a thing or two about Cold Wars (having ended one), couldn’t be more alarmed. Washington’s agenda of “isolating” and arguably crippling Russia is ultimately dangerous, even if in the long run it may also be doomed to failure.

At the moment, whatever its weaknesses, Moscow remains the only power capable of negotiating a global strategic balance with Washington and putting some limits on its empire of chaos.  NATO nations still follow meekly in Washington’s wake and China as yet lacks the strategic clout.

Russia, like China, is betting on Eurasian integration.  No one, of course, knows how all this will end.  Only four years ago, Vladimir Putin was proposing “a harmonious economic community stretching from Lisbon to Vladivostok,” involving a trans-Eurasian free trade agreement. Yet today, with the U.S., NATO, and Russia locked in a Cold War-like battle in the shadows over Ukraine, and with the European Union incapable of disentangling itself from NATO, the most immediate new paradigm seems to be less total integration than war hysteria and fear of future chaos spreading to other parts of Eurasia.

Don’t rule out a change in the dynamics of the situation, however.  In the long run, it seems to be in the cards.  One day, Germany may lead parts of Europe away from NATO’s “logic,” since German business leaders and industrialists have an eye on their potentially lucrative commercial future in a new Eurasia. Strange as it might seem amid today’s war of words over Ukraine, the endgame could still prove to involve a Berlin-Moscow-Beijing alliance.

At present, the choice between the two available models on the planet seems stark indeed: Eurasian integration or a spreading empire of chaos. China and Russia know what they want, and so, it seems, does Washington.  The question is: What will the other moving parts of Eurasia choose to do?

But Russian stocks are down and US stocks are up... so America must be winning?

The US will destroy Europe before it allows Europe to leave it and think for itself.

Any European leader that even thinks of joining Moscow or Beijing will soon be plastered as the new Hitler and be on the receiving end of an American bought nailgun. That is really the fear and danger here and what is keeping Europe allied to the nazis in Washington. Europe is a prisoner of a very evil system with far reaches and no moral fiber.

European wars are almost invariably profitable for the US. Weapon sales, rebuilding infrastructure, competitors devastated, America benefits from the destruction of wars in Euorop

WW1 and WW2 created the conditions that made the US the most powerful nation  post 1945.  Today, an European war may delay the process, or even temporarily reverse it the USSA's relative global decline hence the value of attacking Russia via the Ukraine.

You may be right, but both Lavrov and Putin have declared that the events in Ukraine have been scripted by the US.  It follows that any attack of Russia via Ukraine is just another in an unfortunate series of 'false flag' incidents invented by the US and perpetrated by its flunkies.

Under the 'false flag' rules of engagement that exist between the dominant  powers of today, any major attack on one side, is an ipso facto attack by the other side.  So it behooves the superpowers to keep their stooges from acting independently and threatening the American or Russian Homeland.

A missile from an unidentified submarine at Cape Canaveral or in the Black Sea at Baikonur will produce an immediate response at Baikonur or Cape Canaveral.

Straight out of the globalist textbook:

Demand was raised for peace education and respect for all religions by promoting unity among human beings. Expressing the necessity to form a 'world government' and 'world police', CMS founder Jagdish Gandhi a 'world parliament will help in getting rid of the stockpile of nuclear weapons from the world.

Peace education = disarming the population. Respect for all religions = removal of ethical and moral foundations that were traditionally fostered by honest-to-god mythology. As for world gubbamin and world police, Is-real has been training NYPD, which in turn trains many other PDs around the world.

Many of the pieces are in place. Only variable is how/when/if/will it all come(s) together.

Yup. Pepe is just a shill for the NWO. His role is to make the west look like fuckwads (and they are doing their best to make that happen anyway) while building up the BRICS to look like knights in shining armor, so when they come in to 'save the day' from the evil west with their fucking SDR/digital fiat BULLSHIT people will genuflect and grovel on their knees, accepting a new form of slavery: ABSOLUTE and TOTAL.

Here's an article that illustrates some of this quite well, and if people like it then go check out a different author, Brandon Smith's articles archived on this site and on his own: alt-market.com:

Hence TPTB massive efforts to divide us, anyway they can.

I've viewed Comrade Pepe as your basic bomb-thrower who can sort of write, always coming up with something absurd and fanciful to sway the gullible. But this time he seems to be correct. Washington is out of control, spreading chaos around the world and at home. Washington has gone insane. Sadly, it just might take a Moscow, Beijing, and Berlin axis to bring stability to this world and I don't like the price of that 'stability' that people will have to pay. But I don't think Comrade 0bama would mind.

You're looking at things on too short a time scale. 5-10 years from now is the oil price going to be equivalent to

where it is today? In the referendum all the elderly voted to stay whilst the young voted to leave. As time passes

and it becomes more and more obvious that, for the 90%, the UK is going down the shitter socially, economically

and politically, they'll be another referendum and they'll go. The UK has elections in May 2015 and, as things stand

now, the SNP are going to take pretty much all of Scotland.

I have been living in a cave (a shiny aluminum one with wheels and rolling around the western US with limited access or care for "news") so don't judge me too harshly for not keeping up with "news".

But your question did spur me to briefly check out the umbrella revolution. I found this interesting:

Was the Umbrella Revolution funded and instigated by the CIA and NED? Hong Kong’s “Occupy Central” is US-backed Sedition

Is there any credible evidence to support this claim? Comment1

Joseph WangLive from the Umbrella movement
20 upvotes by AnonymousChan Chin HungQuora User(more) 10/4: From local HK news, it pretty much been confirmed that the triads are involved in beating up student protesters in Mong Kok.  They weren't doing this for deep political reasons, but rather because the students protests were making a nuisance of themselves to local residents and businesses.  They don't seem to mind if the students protest, just not in their backyard.

The students are screaming right now about police-triad collusion, yadda, yadda, yadda,  but people are coming up with some sort of deal, and so the protesters might win if this is in fact an actual movement to reform HK society, the students might win.

However if they are puppets of the CIA and NED, then on the other side you would have the Chinese Communist Party, the richest men in Asia if not the world, the biggest banks in the world, the underground secret cells of the CCP, and *now* the entire Hong Kong underworld.

Ummm....  I'm not worried about the CIA winning if it is a "secret war."
------
Well I'm not surprised if people in Occupy Central got money from the NED.  NED likes to fund stuff like Occupy Central.  This usually kills the credibility of the group because at that point you can accuse them of being foreign puppets.

I actually had a chance to meet the staff of the NED in Washington DC at a conference a few years ago, and found them rather clueless (and it was in the Brookings Institution and no I didn't get any checks from them).  One of the people was talking about connecting together Tibetan independence, Taiwan independence, Uighur independence, and Chinese democracy groups into a single alliance so that they could work with each other and promote their interests in China.

The person talking had honestly NO clue that most Chinese people would react badly to this, and as he was explaining this idea I was think of the Legion of Doom (DC Comics).  In fact he was explaining that most democracy groups they fund are extremely short on resources, so it would be a great idea to get them to share stuff.

The funny thing is that whether it is true or not, no one in Hong Kong cares.  I mean, so what if Benny Tai got money from the NED or CIA?  I went to the demonstrations and I didn't get any money from the NED or CIA.  If the CIA wants to give me money to go to a demonstration, they can contact me via private message and I'll tell them where to send the check.  Heck if they want to sponsor my quora postings, I need the money.  (This message brought to you by the CIA.)

Hong Kong people don't care about these conspiracies for a very funny reason.  That's because you live in a city where there are a lot of "black hand" conspiracies right in front of your face, and people are used to them.  For example, tonight's "chaos" in Mong Kok.  It is freaking obvious to anyone who lives in Hong Kong that the people that are in the anti-occupy group are somehow connected to the CCP.  The CCP does this stuff *all of the time* here in Hong Kong, and so people are just used to it.  I mean, who do you think pays for that anti-Falugong group that has signs all over Hong Kong?

There are all sort of real conspiracies going on in Hong Kong that after a while, you stop caring about them.  If Benny Tai is an agent of the CIA, then good for him.

Also the CCP knows this.  If you look at the CCP propaganda, the CCP has not used the fact that Occupy has received foreign money from the NED against it, because as skilled propagandist, they know that *no one in Hong Kong cares*.  If this was a Mainland organization, they'd be toast.

The focus of the anti-Occupy message to Hong Kong is that, they are bad for business.  The focus of the anti-Occupy message to Mainland China is that, Occupy creates *chaos*.  So in tomorrow's People Daily, there will be a lot of articles in the Mainland press about tonight's fight in Mong Kok, and Mainland people will think "Occupy=chaos" better not do this in Shanghai.

If the NED and CIA and the United States want to use dirty tricks and secret agents to take over Hong Kong, then *I'd like to see them try*.  I'd really like to see them try, for the entertainment value.  The CCP has been doing underhanded stuff in Hong Kong since the 1930's, so it will be amusing to see the NED/CIA get *crushed* by an organization that's better at dirty tricks and underhanded tactics than they are.  The NED and CIA are just total amateurs at this.

I mean look at the stories in the New York Times and the Washington Post.  I mean every person in Hong Kong knows that the people involved are CCP-affliated.  It goes into the Washington Post.  The Washington Post reporters know this too, but they can't say this directly then have to say that they are "alleged" to be pro-Beijing.  By the time it gets to your average person in Iowa, it's going to be "he said, she said" and they are going to think that there are two protest groups fighting each other.  Once it goes back from the NY Times to Shanghai, your reader there sees Xinhua talking about chaos, and then the NY Times talking about chaos, and thinks to themselves, well I guess Xinhua is *right*!!!! I mean, people in Mainland China were starting to get sympathetic to what's happening in Hong Kong, but now they see Xinhua warning about chaos, and the New York Times also talking about all this conflict.  Never mind that it's only happening in one district and nothing is happening in Admiralty.

Brilliant.  Don't you think?  Do you think that the NED or CIA could pull that off?

Thing about the CCP is that at the end of the day, then don't want to see Hong Kong destroyed (where else are they going to launder their money) so they'll pull back on the dirty tricks before anything really bad happens.

If the NED/CIA wants to use Hong Kong as a staging point for Western imperialism and neocolonialism (and that's the whole point of Hong Kong), then I for one would welcome them with open arms.  Hong Kong needs high paying jobs, so if the NED/CIA wants to pump money into the local economy, that would be quite nice.  I'm sure we can introduce the NED/CIA to the CCP, and we can make this a joint venture.

I love Hong Kong.

Also as far as the big explosion this week.  That was totally unexpected.   The problem with playing these sorts of games is that sometimes something happens which nobody expects.  I was watched things blow up on Sunday, minute-by-minute and it was a total surprise to everyone. http://www.quora.com/Was-the-Umbrella-Revolution-funded-and-instigated-b...

P. Escobar is sounding more relevant and intelligent today than he has in the past - but he still borrows most of his ideas and largely just expands on them in his own rudimentary literary style.

I wrote for Asia Times as a regular contributor in the period of 2004-2008 and had my own 2006 book, Russian Rubicon - Impending Checkmate of the West reviewed there - I was laughed at in 2006 when I said the unipolar world order was on the verge of collapse and that Russia would rise to challenge U.S. global hegemony as the first and most important power to 'cross the Rubicon' and lead in the construction of a NWO based in the East and founded upon principles extremely toxic to the petrodollar-based OWO (old world order).

I was among many others who predicted the 2008 financial/economic crash centered in the West, and stated clearly that a newly and deeply injured U.S. hyperpower would be profoundly dangerous to the entire world as it collapsed to occupy the position of first among superpowers.

Originality is very attractive, I think.

The US has been the Empire of Chaos and Death since WW II:

Earth: 248 armed conflicts after WW2; US started 201 (81%), killing 30 million so far

Since WW2, Earth has had 248 armed conflicts. The US started 201 of them.

These US-started armed attacks have killed ~30 million and counting; 90% of these deaths are innocent children, the elderly and ordinary working civilian women and men.

The US has war-murdered more than Hitler’s Nazis.

The Nobel Prize Winner has already bombed 7 muslim countries and created problems in Ukraine which will not be solved for decades.

The US has 900 military bases in 130 countries per Ron Paul.

US military spending is more than $1 trillion a year and  about 50% of world military spending

US illegally spies on everyone and collects about 100 billion pieces of intelligence a month.

The US has become accustomed to dominating the world completely while resentment against America's imperial overreach grows.

The end game may be a major war which will destroy the present unipolar world.

Top German economist says: "

"Anders Aslund believes that the Kyiv authorities should liquidate or sell the country’s defense enterprises to foreign companies, as well as accept the loss of 60 percent of the steel industry and 90 percent of the machine-manufacturing industry" Lets talk blowback inside American led Ukraine in the coming year 2015. The above is just one blowback. The Aircraft Industry in Ukraine : "Antonov aircraft plant ceases production a year after Maidan protests All contracts were annulled, and Dmitro Kyva, the plant’s CEO and chief designer, was fired" Oh, I am not finished yet! If it pleases the readers, there are more stories of this type. Including suggestions that: "Metals plants and machine plants be sold for scrap now, while scrap prices are good." Blowback?  It will soon take every Nazi the Kiev Junta has in it's Nazi Guard Battalions just to keep the peace in Junta occupied Kiev territories as all industry is closed down and scrapped. Unemployment will be the norm. How many people can make coffee and make sandwiches at all these fucking Maidan coffee bars? They actually believe in Kiev, that all the people can live off of food service. All those students sipping coffee and talking about their university classes, are in for a shock. No jobs, fuckers, and no EU pass ports either. So you can't go to London and make coffee and sandwiches at all those fucking London coffee bars!

Live Leak posted a few videos tonight.

1. Was DNP allowing supplies into the airport which I guess NoroRussian troups have surrounded - Givi, Motorola, and the others.  The Ukies tried to hide ammo at the bottom of the truck but it was seized.  Givi and Motorola say these "rotations" are meat wagons taking out dead and wounded Ukrianians.

2. There was a BMP that the Ukies got running with metal scaffolding on the side for armor protection.  It is driving near the airport but not getting anywhere near it.  The thing could barely make it.   Hopefully more Ukrainian men are opting out of fighting for the vermin in Kiev.

So who are they going to get to fight on the ground in the trenches?  The Poles? Americans?  Germans? Lithuanins?

When will the Ukrainians get on the few tanks and BMPs left and take Kiev?

Congress, State Dept and Obama are delusional thinking sending 50 decent tanks or other weapons will help Kiev.

Freddie, Freddie, Freddie... do you not understand the real game?  Since when does it ever have to do with helping the "common man?"  This is as it has ever been, about transferring wealth to the wealthy.  I really think there ought to be a BIG plastering of info pointing out the HUGE increases in wealth made by the banks and to the defense companies during the Great Recession.

Delusional is in thinking that those who are able to maintain power are delusional in their abilities to maintain their power.  Things have changed?  They're still maintaining their power.  It's the fucking game, not the players, as to really play the players have to be a certain way, and that way is the way of the game...

Come on Germans, don't be shy, show those watery and effete Europeans some good German backbone and dump them and join up with the Russians and Chinese. The rest of the world is sick and tired of Israel/US/NATO bullshit and are itching to get involved in some real trade without psychopaths trying to peer up everybody's ass. The US has domestic problems to solve, they have been invaded and stupefied; Germans, like Russians, understand that because they been there done that. Perhaps one day, after a great deal of pain, the Americans will learn what happened to them. But for now, why are Germans wasting time with the US and appeasing Israel, they are still paying fictitious holocaust reparations for God's sake.

Having lived in the USA for 71 years; having fought in a combat unit overseas for the US flag and my comrades-in-arms; and having borne witness to the destruction of the middle class way-of-life I grew up in and cherish - I will say this:

Do not under-estimate the wrath of the American People:

We will die and bleed to avenge wrongs, foreign and domestic.

We, Americans, lack a leader, who will right the wrongs; restore honor to our country; and restore the USA the manufacturing preeminence it had 100 years ago.

It is not so difficult. Close the borders to immigrants (except those with super wealth and super IQs).

Close the borders to foreign goods.  Make every nut, bolt and screw in the USA.  Put every American, rich or poor, smart or dumb, on a 50 hour work week, 50 days per year. Promote the same work ethic that is driven home to every American professional athletic team.

Financial enginering is not manufacturing. A consistent pre-tax profit of 10% on sales, cash-on-cash, is an acceptable return on investment for a low risk business, when total tax rates do not exceed 20%.  The problem is that people do not get involved in high risk operations like mining for  minerals and patent-creation.  No - they apply their talents in Washington, DC to mining Federal Dollars for non-productive enterprises. If the "slippage" in America could only be reduced by 20%, the rest of the World better look out - we will eat their lunch for starters.

But, as things stand right now, the rest of the World will eat America alive and the occupants of this nation will just continue to go with the flow.

"We, Americans, lack a leader, who will right the wrongs; restore honor to our country; and restore the USA the manufacturing preeminence it had 100 years ago."

100 years ago the world's populating was drastically less than now, and the yet-to-be extracted and exploited resources, with oil being key, were there for paving a boom that the world had never before seen (and, when all is said and done, would EVER see again).

"Close the borders to foreign goods.  Make every nut, bolt and screw in the USA.  Put every American, rich or poor, smart or dumb, on a 50 hour work week, 50 days per year. Promote the same work ethic that is driven home to every American professional athletic team."

Wait.  Are we talking about freedom and liberty or are we talking about communist China?  WTF?

"A consistent pre-tax profit of 10% on sales, cash-on-cash, is an acceptable return on investment for a low risk business, when total tax rates do not exceed 20%."

Are you just pulling shit out of your ass?  Are you stating unequivocally what will work?  Do you often find yourself in a corner surrounded by wet paint?  Do you have a clue what "10% profit" means?  I'll tell you.  It means GROWTH.  We're on a fucking finite planet.  10% growth means a doubling every SEVEN years, followed by yet another doubling of That in another SEVEN years.  Do you understand simple math?  You're great at sloganeering, but, clearly, abysmal at logic and math (all the while trouncing on the notion of liberty).  There's a disconnect going on inside your head.  On one hand it appears to comprehend the notion of sustainability (supplying jobs internally), yet it proposes actions that promote activities that will overrun the ability to be sustainable (perpetual growth ['10% profits"]).

Germany is resource poor.  Read about why Hitler was going after Russian oil.

Several years back I got into it with several folks here on ZH about Germany's future.  I was pretty much the ONLY person rebutting the notion that Germany could just separate and stand alone on merit alone.  Sure, Germany has great minds, great engineers (I have a couple German cars [and, curse some of those same German engineers!]), but without inputs to production, and without export markets, Germany is a paper tiger.  So, here were are, years later, staring at a hemorrhaging Germany- I was correct.  And all along the way I stated that there were but three entities in the world that would hold up the longest: U.S., Russia and Canada.  I'm sure it'll take several more years for people to see it staring in their faces, but it's as certain as certainty can be: you cannot trump fundamentals.

In the shorter term Germany has no choice but to leap from the burning building that is the EU and NATO.  Internal pressures will become too high to not to.  All those bright minds in Germany will be happy to find employment in whatever engineering feats that the country should need them to engage in in order that they can hold themselves from the bottom.  Feel free to paint the picture... (when things start to become desperate the fangs no longer stay hidden; and to be clear here, EVERYONE has fangs])

"it will not be"

your basic idea has the minute oversight that Germany is legally (and practically) still US-occupied territory as there has never been a peace treaty after WWII...

He travels, he talks to people, he photographs what feels good wherever he goes.

The guy is confidant of many big shots of Sheiks in the Middle East the Chinese and Russians.

0.001% of live American journalists have the experience that this guy went.

The Jews who have industries in Brazil are scared, they know that the BRICS will make a clean, a great purge.

The thing will be for good or bad, depends on them.

Industry role that finance NGOs, mining industries in indigenous lands created by international pressure will be injured.

The Brazilians are coming as well as the Russians, the Chinese, the Indians (Indians will be a bitter surprise), South Africans are crazy as neozelandezes in warfare.

We Brazilians love when corruption appears in the media!

This is a sign that the government is not covering up anything!

You Americans are screwed, nothing was said about spending on equipment, maintenance and purchasing in the military, the thousand bases around the world.

There is a power that has been hi-jicked by the elites in the West - democracy.

A working democracy does not favour small elites (they have a small number of votes).

The 1% have 1% of the vote and use PR to sway the 99%.

In most western nations all parties are mainstream, pro-banker, pro-globalisation - you have a choice, but no choice.

But even the best PR needs a nugget of truth to work around (stock market highs - everything must be great).

In the UK we have three parties Labour, Liberal and Conservative -  a wide choice but no choice they are essentially the same - LibLabCon.

A new party arrived - UKIP - the MSM panicked big time something different a real choice.

New parties are springing up across Europe and the worse the nation is doing the better these parties are doing (Podermos - Spain, Syriza - Greece).

The 1%'s PR machine fails when there are no nuggets of truth to spin up.

The US electorate needs new parties and as things deteriorate for the 99%, they will come.
