Fig paste likely has those insect heads from the figs when picked.  Most figs require the fig wasp to crawl inside to fertilize the figs.  Some don't make it back out.  A fresh fig picked from the tree at optimum time will have those insect parts.

Actually most commerically grown and processed food has serious issues. I have opted to get most my food from local farmers and process it myself. It is a year round operation here....next up starting this week is jellies and jams. First veggies will be planted in Feb..the early green peas.

Tradition here through the holidays starting with Thanksgiving is to give food baskets with homemade goodies. :-)

We have crossed into a new world of ZIRP so do not ever expect income on your investments (unless you fear losing those investments). Better to add one gold coin to your stack knowing that it will feed a family of four in 2014 and will do the same in 2044. (silver stackers may need 3 tubes per month to do the same). Stacking is the only secure retirement plan.

Drinking game.  Which ZHer knocks over the Chrismas tree first?  Extrs points if it was the result of arguing with a family member about econonomics.  The best thing is that you can make up however many points you want in order to win.  An extra 1000 points if you punch a relative in the face and say Merry Chistmas with a smile.

The grand prize is that you will never have to do Christmas with your family again.

I was naughty this year so I must work Christmas as punishment. So tomorrow I will spend looking at Petrie dishes filled with various fungi growing from body parts, scanning sputum and bronch washes for TB, peering at drops of feces for parasites and analyzing vaginal and penis swabs for GC and chlamydia. My family will be home trying to placate grandma whose endless stream of complaints has no end. I feel sorry for them.

Merry Christmas all!

Sorry you have to work on Christmas Miffed! But I totally understand what you're saying about placating grandma. We just lost our beloved 15 yr old Lab. He was so beautiful. Loved people, walks..barked happy when you came home to great you.

The last few months he was having problems walking, you know, hind legs in older dogs. Started having accidents all over the house. When we finally replaced the carpet we had to keep him outside with a coat and covered up. He developed eye gooze that I guess all older dogs do, but I wonder if it wasn't from the tears and weeping he shed from knowing that he was once the center of attention...and now he was another dog. When it was evident that he was in too much pain with all the money and help and TIME we gave him we called hospice and paid a small fortune to say goodbye with the vet coming to our home instead of shipping him off to a vet that smells of death, that doesnt belive in sedation, just admin- and that will be $200 please. We all have that to look forward to. I am still trying to wrap my mind around it. God I miss him. Love you Miff. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Miffed Microbiologist's picture

That is a sad story and one I can relate. Sixteen years ago we lost our beloved German Shepard. She was nana to our little girls and they absolutely adored her. One day while roughhousing I noticed a lump on her breast. The vet did confirm it was breast cancer and said it would be simple to remove. However, he had to confirm it hadn't invaded her lungs which was typical. When he came back with the X-ray, I could tell from his face the results weren't good. Massive amount of tumors lit up against the light. " How long does she have?" " I'm sorry, with this amount of a tumor load? Maybe a week." We were devastated. Telling a 4 and 7 year old their beloved pet was going to die soon was one of the hardest things I did as a parent. Our vet told us to watch her closely for signs of distress and put her down quickly. The alternative would be a ghastly death.

Days went by. Then weeks. Finally after 2 months I took her back to the vet. She seemed fine but a little tired. The vet was shocked and assumed I had already put her down. He took another X-ray. Barely any normal lung tissue left and the tumors were even larger. " I just can't believe this" he keep saying over and over. Finally he turned to me and asked if I had small children at home. I said yes. He told me he had seen this before. She was worried about them and didn't want to leave. I started to cry. He took me by the hand and said to go home and tell your wonderful dog you and your husband will take care of your children and it ok to leave when you need to, everything will be ok.

That night we all held her and told her we loved her very much, not to worry and thanked her for being a part of our family. The following night she showed definite signs of difficulty breathing and we rushed her to an emergency vet. I told the kids they didn't have to watch. My eldest was distraught and chose to stay in the waiting room. As she was dying, eldest burst in the room and held her paw just before it was over. Later I asked why she did that. " Mommy, I knew Gretchen would look in all your eyes and know you really loved her. I would not be there. I could not bare that she wouldn't see I loved her too." As an adult it is difficult to see the perspective of a child.

Even after all this time I still miss my dear Gretchen. Sometimes when I am alone in quiet contemplation I can feel her presence as if she is paying me a visit. Beautiful souls are timeless and are always connected to us, it's just the noise in our minds and life keeps us so distracted we cannot feel them.

I will be thinking of you and wishing you peace and happiness. I thank God for sending us these wonderful animals who loved us unconditionally and gave us such joy. So sad to know many people never experience this.

Merry Christmas and Love always,

Miffed

I am tired of those Christmas carols

Every year it is the same stuff where ever you go.  It may be nice for kids, but with most of them having access to the internet, I think their attention is in other directions.

Maybe I will make a new carol, "Buy some more, buy some more, buy it all here, we take the plastic cards so you can buy forever more."

You would think with all the musical talent on this planet they could come up with something different, but then there are royalties, everyone wants to make a million and Christmas carols have passed copyright protection. :)

Only human beings would try and con children into thinking some fat man in a red suit is flying with a bunch of wild deer and stuffing himself down a chimney which doesn't exist in an electrical heated home and leave gifts for nothing.  That is really cruel for kids who are poor and the parents can't afford to be Santy.

Christmas may be enjoyable for some, but for others it is not such a merry time.

Yes but remember that "santy" is first in the big indoctrination lie, the first of many fallacies to be believed .."Hi I'm from the government and I'm here to help" shortly follows You all know the rest !  The ex is the ex because of santa I told Jr I was and always will be "santa" and anything he gets is becaused I worked for it :)

my rule has always been to break the cycle I lied to myself for to long and vowed to never lie to my Son that started with "old fat satan er santa"  next I shot the easter bunny Literally  We had fresh rabbits for easter :)

Never lie to those you love even if it shields them from pain  They will thank you one day as my son has me !

"Every breath leads me one closer to my last"  May you Live long happy and healthy  Fuck consumermas :)

Now that is so good that I will repeat it...NEVER LIE TO THOSE YOU LOVE.

It is NOT LOVE when you lie. You are not shielding anyone else from pain. You are shielding yourself and justifying your immorality that it was for "someone else's benefit."

Love does not rejoice in INIQUITY bet REJOICES WITH TRUTH. If you are not truthful then you are not acting in love. You are an antichrist when you are a LIAR.

IT IS CHILD ABUSE to lie to those little ones whom place their total faith, trust, and confidence in you.

Fuck Christmas and all that it stands for as it does not stand for Christ at all. This whole season is based upon LIES.

Zorin 9 is windows friendly. It's ubuntu linux current. I have an old laptop on linux for upgrades. sudo_ commands are easy.

You can flash drive it, and decide later. If anyone is considering going LINUX. Don't do it on your primary PC.

Stick with Ubuntu my friend. Just use the cinnamon desktop instead of unity to  et the Linux mint feel. I say this BC many packages once installed on mint eventually have unmet dependencies as Ubuntu upgrades are released. In other words mint won't upgrade even though it should. But maybe that's just me as I like to install obscure packages and hence screw around with my source list to access all types of repos.

I run Win7 on most of my machines, I was actually referring to my HTPC in the living room. I like to test stuff on that because I don't keep anything of importance on that.

The Windows 10 technical preview is full of bugs so don't try it on something you need to keep stable.

Pretty much like Windows 8.1 right now but it forces you to connect to a verfied email account. Windows 8.1 wanted you to do that, but you can get around it.

So they want total control and inventory of everything you have on your storage etc, they want you to use online Outlook, they want to make you use Onedrive, etc.

I have a couple of copies of Windows 7 Pro N, the "Europe" version that comes without the Windows media player. That I like best out of the Windows versions.

I had Windows 2012 Server on my server, but it was crap for what I am doing, so I ended up using Windows 7 N and it actually is better for my needs.

I may put just a Linux based media OS on my HTPC and call it a day. Couple of good ones out there.

Sorry for the speech.

1. Increasing Corporate Profits, more than fully restrained by a bloated government: Nothing Wrong Here

2. Median Household Income Flat: We are in a global economy, and perhaps we have been overpaid for a number of years relative to our global competitors. Perhaps our relatively opulent lifestyle is globally unsustainable. And maybe our Robin Hood in Chief is misguided in robbing from the rich to give to the poor, as the rich (and their accountants/lawyers) will refuse to be robbed and will continue to become richer (so true during this transformative administration), and the poor will be sustained in their poverty by a relatively weak economic recovery, their lack of globally competitive skills, and social welfare programs which have never been shown to decrease the rate of poverty.

So please stop blaming corporations, but rather blame our current administration and social welfare programs which have only been shown to sustain poverty, often over multiple generations.

What a good idea. A Merry Christmas to all.

Let it be a time with friends and family, goodwill and contemplation.

In the greater scheme of things, we all matter, a bit.

Let's make it the biggest bit we can manage!

FFS is it so hard to say Christmas these days? The term Holiday, to stand in place for Christmas, is a politically correct thing, and needs punching down, just like the tards who insist on using it.

I used to love Christmas. Even when I got older and knew Santa was fake I still loved it. Once I escape the matrix (9 yes ago) I started to hate lies all the more I heard and read them. Each Christmas since then I've been more and more saddened because it was just a lie.
But you know what? The real true story of Christmas has meant more each year to me because it reminds us all that there is still some good in this world. Peace on earth, goodwill toward men and women is a real concept that when reminded of it we become the people we always hoped to be.
After experiencing this past year and all the bad that has come with it I do feel better when Christmas time comes around because not only does it bring people together, but it reinforces the true spirit and meaning of Christmas.
It reminds us as humans to let go of the bad, even if fo one day to focus on our humanity. Love, giving, sharing, kindness. All things we wish that would happen all over the world but not just for one day.

But the political left in this country will do everything it can to tear down the institutions and traditions of any free and peacefull society and they will never stop......and neither will I. It's also why I can't stop believing in the spirit of Christmas.
Let this new year be the start of we the people taking back our liberty and vanquishing those that want to divide and enslqve us!

God Bless you all. Peace

Well said.  Hence my comment above about using the term 'Christmas' as disctinct from any of the other weasel words to avoid it.

Stop this Happy Holiday bullshit.  It's all part of the attack on Christmas which in turn is part of the broader plot to undermine everything traditional about Western society.  For the record I adhere to no religion.

Thanks Monty. It's funny when a person decides to do some research into the history of life as it has been on this planet the truth becomes easy to see.
When trying to explain historically what has happened and what horrible people have done throughout history that has a pattern of tactics used on the people of civilizations and then try to make a correlation of events taking place in this country all I get is, "yeah but what are you gonna do?"
It takes the long hard and depressing work of seeking the truth.

Can't imagine ever going back to the matrix. Being so blind and gullible to certain realities since I was born, living in a world of lies and not ever questioning it because it's on teevee.

Being unplugged can be maddening at times. Listening to people who know that you know that they know that you know that they are bold faced
lying to you and yo can't do shit about it.
Unless we force them in a corner where they have nowhere to hide. It is in that moment I'm hoping people will see the little man or woman behind the curtain and wake the fuck up!
Cheers mate.

Yes S/S taking the red pill can lead to great frustration and indeed anger.  Isn't it also amazing how you can identify the patterns and purpose behind so many things that had heretofore appeared inexplicable? Like the War On Christmas. All makes sense.

Anyway buddy enjoy your Christmas and keep up the good fight.  I know that now in my declining years I'm devoting my life to it.

I do wish everyone a merry Christmas. There are some clever minds here and informed souls. I wish you all the best in empowering your not so informed populace. Do enjoy the festive season with your families. 2015 will be a year, "the same as any other" regardless of what happens in the area of life that doesn't really matter anyway. Financials. All the best.

Merry Christmas, freaks and creeps.

Krampus wll deliver judgement on those that blow it today, so toss back some booze and cigars and chill.

I was raised Catholic. As a kid I dug the crazy scupture and other art, the Wagnerian proto-metal choir music, but soon came to the realization that it is an elaborate, well funded scam.

My wife thinks Jesus is real, and went to a Calvary Church service yesterday. She still says fuck and drinks wine. Church makes her feel better, I guess, but I don't require it. God is far far bigger than any Church service and in my opinion must be recognized as the Prime Creator and the Intelligence behind the endless Universe. That's a pretty impressive resume. Nice work on Jupiter by the way. That's a hell of a paint job, dude.

But what the fuck, Christmas is Christmas. We all know to stay out of the zombie malls and not fall for the consumerism, it's all about Family, Food, and something boozy on the rocks. Also, there's a Godzilla marathon on cable somewhere, and silver is under 16.00.

2015 should be chock full o' fuckery, so recharge for the assault. As John B Wells says "make ready for what's to come".

According to Pagan myths, Odin was the leader of the Wild Hunt every Yule –the equivalent of Christmas for the Germanic Pagan Tribes- and he would ride his eight-legged horse, Sleipnir around the whole time. Sleipnir could cover long distances in a very short period of time, just like Santa’s sleigh and reindeer. According to the same traditions, children would fill their boots with carrots, straw and sugar, and place them near the chimney for Odin’s flying horse to eat while resting. Odin would then return the favor and reward those children for their kindness by leaving gifts, toys, and candies in the boots. Sound familiar?  That's my kind of Santa!  Merry Fekkin' Holidays!
