ISIS Shoots Down US-Led 'Coalition' Jet, Captures Jordanian Pilot
Fighters from Islamic State (ISIS) claim to have shot down a US-led coalition warplane in northern Syria and taken the Jordanian pilot captive, according to The Times. The Jordanian army confirmed that one of its planes had crashed and the pilot had been captured, and said: “Jordan holds the group and its supporters responsible for the safety of the pilot and his life”. As The NY Times reports, the strike and capture signals the harshest blow yet to the coalition and could affect the resolve of the Arab nations that have joined the United States in its air campaign.
Militants from the Islamic State extremist group have shot down a fighter jet over Syria deployed by the United States-led coalition that is battling the group and have captured a pilot from an Arab country, a Syrian monitoring organization said on Wednesday. The monitoring group, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said the militants had fired an antiaircraft missile to bring down the jet near Raqqa, in northern Syria.

The coalition was formed this year and includes Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
While American officials have lauded the contributions of their Arab partners, they also acknowledge that the majority of the strikes have been carried out by the United States, with its partners often playing a supporting role. The United States’ Arab allies have avoided giving much detail about their role in the campaign, mostly over fears of retribution by the Islamic State or to avoid domestic blowback from citizens who support the extremists.
The capture would be the first of a coalition pilot, and the militants could seek to use the hostage to obtain ransom or concessions.
Supporters of the Islamic State on social media said the captured pilot was from Jordan and posted photographs of a man in a white T-shirt surrounded by gunmen.

The US should intervene and offer Obama in exchange.
Often times in these photos of ISIS fighters I see several of them that look like pros, usually wearing face coverings, carrying excellent equipment in good condition, and often wearing matching uniforms. Impressive for a new fighting force nobody ever heard of until just recently. Now, they are shooting down fighter jets.
I think the bigger question perhaps might be how many of these folks hiding behind a mask might not look so middle eastern if said face covering was ripped off.

Syria has been informed by Obama himself that if they shoot down an "allied" plane, which they have a prefect right to do, Syria would face annihilation.

In the first photo, the captured pilot's face is pixellated. Why? ISIS obviously knows what he looks like.
In the second photo (side view), pilot's face is not pixellated, emphasizing that there was no point pixellating the first photo. Why?

- If it was, it illustrates that ISIS has more capabilities than Western government will find comfortable. Should they have the ability to shoot down planes, other members of the coalition who felt that being able to strike ISIS with impunity made it an easy political decision to maintain. Even if the risk is remote, public support in NATO nations will erode (and the fact that the war with ISIS is going nowhere doesn't help here.) Now that decision starts to look a little foolhardy.
- If it was a crash, then ISIS is lying and overstating it's capabilities in order to puff itself up. Could be simple opportunism on their part.
Now, the big question is staring us all in the face: whom do we believe here? Our own lying governments or a bunch of religious thugs?

If losing a single plane and pilot threatens the coalition's resolve, then they should just pack up and go home. They ain't gonna beat IS in Syria without the political will to do so.
As for IS in Iraq, Patton or Rommel would have flanked those fuckers, cut off their supplies and retreat routes, coordinated with air support, and completely destroyed them within a month.
