However, that "solution" is fraught with the paradoxes that one may end up thereby making things worse.
One can relatively easily learn more of the truth, however, after one does that, one is faced with the dilemma that the established systems of legalized lies backed by legalized violence do not care about the truth, but only care about being able to continue to back up lies with violence. Actually changing anything takes more violence, however, that will likely only make things worse.
Learning more about the truth involves more rational evidence and logical arguments. However, since society is actually controlled by lies backed by violence, which do not care about the truth, merely presenting more rational evidence and logical arguments has no significant effect, since the systems of lies backed by violence continue to dominate and control civilization nevertheless.
After the development of weapons of mass destruction, all of the old-fashioned ways of resolving conflicts became criminally insane, while, simultaneously, violent revolutions also became criminally insane too. We are stuck inside the vicious spirals of society being controlled by systems of lies backed by violence, which are automatically becoming worse, faster. However, learning more about that truth only makes it appear worse, since one could not actually change that, without resorting to violence, which would most probably make things get even worse, faster.
That is how I interpret the situation that "we have no control over what the truth is," because the truth is that society is controlled by systems of legalized lies backed by violence, which are enforced frauds, which are the foundation of our political economy, whereby private banks are allowed to make the public "money" supply out of nothing as debts. That debt slavery system inherently is designed to blow economic bubbles. We let it blow, let it blow, let it blow, because the reasons how and why that system exists are that the government is the biggest form of organized crime, controlled by the best organized gang of criminals, the biggest gangsters, the banksters.
Civilization is not controlled by evidence and logic, but rather by the schedules of reinforcement based on backing up lies with violence, in which the primary ways that evidence and logic actually get applied are to enable the ruling classes to become better at being dishonest, and backing that up with violence. The people who are ruled over are rewarded when they agree with lies, but punished when they do not agree with lies. The result is that lies control civilization, despite that driving society to overall become more criminally insane, and psychotically out of touch with the relatively more objective facts. The majority of people, through generation after generation of that kind of schedule of reinforcement, have ended up believing in the biggest bullies' bullshit, and that includes the controlled opposition groups too.
"We can handle knowledge about the truth." Anyone who wants to can readily do enough research to discover the history of how the word "money" gradually had its meaning inverted and perverted, as one of the most important ways that the biggest bullies' bullshit dominates society, so that we live in a Bizarro Mirror World, where everything appears proportionately backwards, and that includes the "solutions" to that problem.
Our political economy is based on enforced frauds, which automatically become worse, faster, at an exponential rate. However, actually changing those frauds would take the practically impossible realization of better violence, to back up better lies, so that the government became a better form of organized crime. It is typical of our times that even the common concepts about "revolution" have practically become obsolete and inoperable.
Ideally, we should have intellectual scientific revolutions in the basic philosophy of science, to begin to comprehend the degree to which our problems are profoundly paradoxical, which includes that almost all of the popular notions about what the "solutions" to those problems ought to be are just as backwards as the reasons how and why those problems developed in the first place.
The core to everything was the history of warfare, in which success was based on deceit and treachery. Within that prolonged historical process, almost the only opposition to those systems that survived was controlled opposition, whose world view was based on false fundamental dichotomies, that promoted impossible ideals, that actually made the opposite happen in the real world. The basic truth is that money is measurement backed by murder, since the debt controls depend upon the death controls. That basic truth cannot be changed in any basic ways. The only things which are possible are changes in the dynamic equilibria between the different systems of organized lies operating robberies. However, those who were most successful within the established systems, including those who were successful within the controlled opposition groups to those established systems, developed through history to become the best professional liars and immaculate hypocrites, because of the profound paradox that the most socially successful death controls operated through the maximum possible deceits, which then enabled the debt controls to become based on the maximum possible frauds.
The existing systems have at their central core their murder systems, doing their death controls. Any genuine transformations of those systems would require actually changing the ways that the murder systems operated the death controls, in order to back up changes in the money systems' debt controls. However, the recognition of that truth then loops back to what I wrote at the beginning of this reply, namely, the basic problem with the nature of entropic processes, that backing up lies with violence constantly makes things get worse, faster ...
I like to attempt to asymptotically approach ways in which post-modernizing science is re-converging with ancient mysticism, from where it started out, long, long ago. Transcendentally speaking, the world is already perfect, because energy is already being conserved. The more we are able to make and maintain nonlinear functions of the conservation of energy within feedback loops, then the more life and consciousness there may be within that system.
However, at the present time, due to the degree that systems of lies backed by violence are controlling civilization, in ways which are based on evil deliberate ignorance, we are not directing our efforts towards more conservation of energy, within greater nonlinear functions of more life and consciousness, instead, we are watching the established systems of enforced frauds, blow and blow and blow themselves up and up and up towards severe social storms, as the debt slavery systems have driven their numbers to become debt insanities, which are headed towards provoking death insanities, in the form of the mass extinctions of species, trending towards the collective suicide of the human species.
The essential paradoxes are that the only ways to fully face the truth would require attempting to develop better systems of death controls. Natural selection pressures always exist, and so, must be focused through artificial selection systems somehow. However, understanding that better would require profound changes in the ways that we currently perceive the world, since our perceptions now are almost totally dominated by the biggest bullies' bullshit world views, where everything is presented in the most backward ways possible.
The truth is that everyone has some power to rob, and power to kill to back that up. Governments were basically military organizations that assembled and channeled those powers to rob and to kill into systems of legalized lies, backed by legalized violence. Effective control over the use of those powers was captured by the best organized gangs of criminals being able to apply the methods of organized crime to the political processes, which resulted in the collective powers of We the People to rob and to kill becoming effectively privatized, in ways whereby the government enforces frauds, that result in the vast majority being robbed, in order to benefit a tiny minority. All of that tends to be misunderstood by most people through their reliance upon various old-fashioned ideologies and religions.
I regard "Christ Consciousness" as being based upon human beings' approach towards understanding the principle of the conservation of energy and momentum, (with information as also a form of energy). In that context, "evil" is entropy. "Christmas" developed out of the struggle between different imperialistic information systems, where previous forms of religion were co-opted and assimilated through Christianity.
These days, it is impossible to say for sure whether or not, or to what degree, there ever was any historically real "Jesus." However, it is clear that there were sacred stories which got retold and and retold and retold, throughout human history. The Christmas story is one of the results of that process, where some ancient astronomy and astrology kind of got blurred and blended into Christianity, with its celebration of Christmas.
In keeping with the theme of the Ho Ho Ho, or Ho Cubed, as illustrated with this paraphrasing poem above, economics is a dismal science, and ecology is a doubly dismal science, while combing economics with ecology becomes triply dismal. More truth about that is on the fringe of the established systems, since the established systems (including their controlled opposition groups) present their versions of the truth in as backwards of ways as possible. Therefore, one approaches relatively more truth about society as one goes to the fringe, then the fringe of the fringe, and on to the fringe of the fringe of the fringe, or the Fringe Cubed.
The supreme paradoxes in society are due to militarism being the self-actualizing supreme ideology, within which is the special subset of economic ideologies. Since success in warfare was based on deceit and treachery, success in finance became based on fraud. Those systems of enforced frauds are driving our political economy towards collapsing into crazy chaos, because the social successes based on being able to back up lies with violence never stops those lies from still being false. Therefore, systems of legalized lies backed by legalized violence drive society as a whole to overall become more psychotically insane.
However, deeper levels of appreciation of more radical truths include recognitions of the ways that the lies are different at every level, and that includes the ways that the "solutions" to those problems that people propose tend to be just as backwards as the reasons why those problems developed in the first place. The established systems of MAD Money As Debt propose their kinds of "solutions" as being even MOAR of that "money" made out of nothing as debts. The controlled opposition groups tend to propose a range of idealized alternatives of what money should be, that tend to deliberately ignore that money IS measurement backed by murder.
That is the context in which I thought the reply of DectectiveStern above was an excellent succinct summary of the social situation. We may be able to handle more knowledge about the truth, but actually doing something about that factual situation is not something within our control ... The truth is that the established systems are based on being able to back up lies with violence, which automatically becomes worse, faster, the more socially successful that becomes, while the controlled opposition groups are not proposing any genuinely better solutions, but rather continue to promote the same old impossible ideals, that always backfire badly in the real world.
The truth is that the death controls are the central controls. We may be able to handle more truth about that, however, that does not mean we are then able to control that situation any better. That is especially the case due to the degree that the most deceitful death controls were the most successful, which included that the controlled opposition to those kinds of death controls also operate within the same basically deceitful frame of reference about those death controls.
While our physical sciences have gone through a series of profound paradigm shifts, which have enabled human beings to develop technological powers and capacities that have become many orders of magnitude BIGGER than ever before in human history, there is nothing like that which has, so far, happened within political science. Such profound changes in the philosophy of science, which would then apply through political science, to the combined murder systems backing up money systems, would be the kind of truth that would be necessary to actually change the kinds of systems of enforced frauds that now control our political economy. However, at the present time, the only way that appears possible to happen is for the energy being pumped into those social pyramid systems to drive severe social storms, which will let it blow, let it blow, let it blow!
Detective - I disagree. I may not like the truth of where my society has landed at this time but getting out of the way as an empire flames out after passing the torch to China is something people can do. When one learns it is a barbell economy one can make financial decisions to either try and break gravity (if you do expect to need lawyers to keep it) or downsize and work less, making life simpler and making more time other interests, enlightement, etc.
I got in touch with leadership through contacts I had made in business and used it to reduce the cost of oil by nice bucks a few years back by advising President Bush to have Bernanke dry up the discount window for a month.
They only did it a week but I saved millions of Americans some dough on heating oil and gas. Bush wanted a benchmark per barrel of oil speculation for political use. So I helped him get it while steering the bus a little just for a moment. We do what we can do to slow the inevitable decent into hell in an imperfect world or help rebuild depending on the cycle.
Also telling those with an ear can help mitigate pain of the evolutionary process. Bitching alone won't cut it. It does help to reach out and touch someone. That requires being proactive with a little less maneuvering room while also hedging and being on the defensive to retain wealth. It isn't easy, that is for sure. It requires looking in the mirror and modify bad behavior which also isn't easy but certainly worth it.

Well, I know this much, the chinee are running me out of batteries. I had a large stash of batteries but now I am getting low on supply due to these chinee toys needing all of these batteries. And the kicker is that the kids aren't even playing with the toys because they don't seem to care. The SEXBox is getting a lot of play and I broke down and tried playing just to see how it works. I wanted to just kill everyone in the town square on Assassin's Creed but it would not let me. They were doing a public hanging and I figured it was mob rule so why can't I kill them all?
Speaking of sex, I knocked a piece of Russia off last night through a very strategic deployment of rum. I am happy about that and so is she. The best part is that I still have half a bottle of rum left.LOL With what my daughter managed to do with breaking the glass door on the entertainment center and resulting blood that came from womanhead trying to clean it up to quickly. So to sum up Christmas this year we have: broken glass, blood spilled and sex occuring. Perfect.
I am actually happy for once because you can not write a script like that where nobody actually got mad at one another. The day is not over yet and more things could happen. I have just been informed that I have to play with magic sand now. I have noever done that before. OK, why not? I hope all of you had fun and look forward to reading about all of the fun you had.

Went to my husband's family Christmas dinner last night.
Sister-in-law had a home-made centerpiece.
Beautiful.
Little iron sled holding pine branches and pine cones she had picked from her trees outside.
All held in perfect place by one of those styrofoam things that soaks up water.
She had sprayed the pine cones with silver glitter and tied a large red ribbon around the base.
In the center were three red candles.
She lit the candles as we sat down to stuff ourselves senseless.
Beautiful.
After dinner we vegged out on the living room couches and I fell asleep as they told stories about long dead relatives I never knew.
I woke up hearing something crackling.
Wondered why in the world my sister-in-law was making pop corn.
Then the smell of smoke hit me, and I opened my eyes to see hubby running out the front door with the centerpiece in flames.
Fancy that. Something so intricately put together and pleasing to the eye was destroyed in a few panic-filled seconds.
It's just a Christmas story, and I'm sure it has nothing to do with anything we discuss here.

A good question was put to me by a friend. Would investing into a China corp be a hedge agianst a dollar colaps? Or Sasol out of SA? The premiss being productive companies in more robust countries should make it thru?

It's windy with whitecaps on the upper Chesapeake Bay today and about 53 degrees. Christmas classics are playing on a turntable hooked to an all tube Dynaco preamp and an Elite-80 driving big Altec-Lansing 4-ways. Will probably fire up the woodstove later when it gets colder but the oven is keeping the place toasty for now. Friends and family are dropping in and out with a standing invitation to come back tonight and get "faced". It's become tradition.

You've been on here a long time and IMO one of the reasons to keep reading ZH. We all know it's changed a lot over the last few years but a lot of the people who have been members 4 years or longer are still here. You guys are at least half of what makes ZH valuable. At least. There's too many to list but you're on the list for sure.
Ain't nuthin' like the sound of a stylus setting down with a soft crunch on the outer grooves of a vinyl LP. The vacuum tubes in that Elite 80 perform a secondary function. They help heat up the room! Play it loud.
