UK Literally Runs Out Of Bricks In Scramble To Build Unprecedented Housing Bubble

Tyler Durden's picture

"Every brick we can make has already been sold up to three months in advance – the UK brickmakers can’t supply demand at the moment," exclaims the CEO of one of Britain's largest brickmakers. With The UK's housing bubble spreading from London, The Telegraph reports that stocks of bricks have reached the lowest levels on record as homebuilders rush to take advantage of the surging demand for British property (which has seen realtors and economists worry is getting out of hand).

As The Telegraph reports,

Stockpiles of the vital building blocks dipped to 323m at the end of October, down almost a third from 500m in 2012, after stocks of more than 1bn were recorded in 2009, according to monthly reports from the Department for Business Innovation and Skills, and the Office for National Statistics.

The UK brick sector has seen a flurry of deals recently.

...

Martin Warner, chief executive of Michelmersh Brick, said: “Every brick we can make has already been sold up to three months in advance – the UK brickmakers can’t supply demand at the moment.”

The strong demand from housebuilders has seen brickmakers rush to bring back facilities. Weinerberger, Europe’s largest brickmaker, is reinstating two mothballed factories that will produce 200m-plus bricks a year.

“This capacity increase shows our absolute commitment to ensuring that enough new housing is built to meet the requirements of the market,” said Harald Schwarzmayr, managing director of Wienerberger.

Brick prices have increased by 8.8pc year-on-year to the end of September. This follows a four-year period from 2009, when the price increased by an average of 2pc a year.

*  *  *

As even in the summer...

A respected group of economists, the OECD, has called on the British authorities to rein in house price growth. It is the latest in a series of warnings which suggest that house price inflation poses a threat to Britain's economic recovery.

The "heat" effect clearly spills out of the capital towards the South and West, into affluent commuter areas in Surrey and Kent, where prices are between 5pc and 10pc higher than in 2007-08. Other "thawing" is visible along the M40 and also to the north of the capital.

*  *  *

We are sure this will end well.

Honestly, how does the UK economy even survive? Do they really make anything over there anymore? It seems like their entire economy is housing and finance.

Similar to Australia - digging dirt, finance and property. The US is not much better since large tracts of manufacturing have been lost. They are all debt driven 'rentier' economies. When the debt stops the collapse will come.

Manufacturing in the UK accounts for around 15% of the economy I believe - used to be 50% at one time. Even with this de-industrialisation the UK still produces a wider range of goods and more in absolute terms than previously. Still hoplessly tied to the useless bankers and financial services.

Well, in some areas of London, one is still in danger of seeing a native - i.e. a native English person, identified most readily by their pale white skin and frightened appearance.

Gotta build more to house more, you see.

Apparently, Europe would "not survive" otherwise.

54 years man and boy.

A lot fewer people live up here which means a glut of low priced houses. The housing stock is also very tired and generally of poor quality plus there is a distinct lack of cultural comforts. These were all reasons advanced by various local development companies as reasons why we don't have businesses flocking up here and why we have a talent drain to the South.

The reality is that London is where all the banks are within the city mile and that's where the new money pours out into the economy first.

It's nowhere near the 253% debt load of Japan. My guestimates are about 167%.

The problem is the U.K. can't manufacture a surplus. Japan is a much larger economy with a HUGE export base.

I agree no one really knows true figures, so we have to look at shipping, energy, electricity, imports and other areas to determine sovereign health.

In the black= healthily sovereign

Red Ink= debt peons and wage slaves

so the states of sovereign health regarding the UK and Japan are 'proper fucked' and 'Seppuku', respectively.

Millions of them.

Poles, Romanians, Bulgarians and every other European nationality you can think of.

Roma Gypsies everywhere by the tens of thousands.

Its rife. Crime everywhere.

England is one of the most densely populated countries in the world and its collapsing under the weight of immigration.

Its schools, health service, roads turning into parking lots.

Still they come and thanks to the EU we cannot control our borders.

We pay them billions in benefits.

Something like £100,000,000 a year is being paid for children in eastern Europe who have never set foot in the country. paid straight to eastern europe.

Madness.

We have to build millions of houses for them - and then the taxpayer pays their rents.

We have to build thousands of houses every week.

It is utterly crazy.

And England is losing its identity and culture.

This is all back to front. The UK Government finally put some money into housing construction and supporting first time mortgages. There is (outside of London property speculators trying to provide some safe assets for foreign money looking for a home) a strong increase in new-build housing.

UK has seriously under-built housing for 25 years. A combination of useless banks, a bad planning system which doesn't release land for housing (Which means what land is available is priced too high, heavy taxation and poor infrastructure support meant nobody could be bothered building houses. Most city councils now in fact charge a bribe to allow houses to be built. They call it 'contributions' to roads, utilities, a supervision officer, a slice of a library, a bus stop ....

The brick manufacturers, who are basically all now owned by financial groups, were caught off guard counting their money, and failed to react to this growth.

UK barely has a manufacturing industry any more. They basically don't make washing machines, doors, curtain walling, floortiles, steel, anything in UK these days. They just have a financial sector -overdue for collapse *.

*Sounds like Draghi is going to put the knife into City of London as a gift to Frankfurt.

Goes without saying that to defeat nations you first need to dilute national identity, this is going on throughout the (un)developed world. It is division at the most base (ie genetic) level. The idiots in society blame the immigrants, rather like a child being forced to go to bed early and blaming the clock.

Northern England on the map is almost black, I can assure you there is no big housing boom in Yorkshire, it's all London and the South East, stockbroker belt.

There is some serious shit coming our way soon, it's palpable, even to the sheep.
