Russia's "Startling" Proposal To Europe: Dump The US, Join The Eurasian Economic Union

Tyler Durden's picture

Slowly but surely Europe is figuring out that as a result of the western economic and financial blockade of Russian, it is Europe itself that is suffering the most. And while Germany was first to acknowledge this late in 2014 when its economy swooned and is now on the verge of a recession, now others are catching on. Case in point: the former head of the European Commission, and Italy’s former Prime Minister, Romano Prodi who told Messaggero newspaper that the "weaker Russian economy is extremely unprofitable for Italy."

The other details from Prodi's statement:

Lowered prices in the international energy markets have positive aspects for the Italian consumers, who pay less for the fuel, but the effect will be only short-term. In the long-term however the weaker economic situation in countries producing energy resources, caused by lower oil and gas prices, mostly in Russia, is extremely unprofitable for Italy, he said.

The lowering of the oil and gas prices in combination with the sanctions, pushed by the Ukrainian crisis, will drop the Russian GPD by five percent per annum, and thus it will cause cutting of the Italian export by about 50%,” Prodi said.

“Setting aside the uselessness or imminence of the sanctions, one should highlight a clear skew: regardless of the rouble rate against dollar, which is lower by almost a half, the American export to Russia is growing, while the export from Europe is shrinking.”

In other words, just as slowly, the world is starting to grasp the bottom line: it is not the financial exposure to Russia, or the threat of financial contagion should Russia suffer a major recession or worse: it is something far simpler that will lead to the biggest harm for Europe's countries. The lack of trade. Because while central banks can monetize everything, leading to an unprecedented asset bubble which if only for the time being boosts investor and consumer confidence, they can't print trade - that all important driver of growth in a globalized world long before central banks were set to monetize over $1 trillion in bonds each and every year to mask the fact that the world is deep in a global depression.

Which is why we read the following report written in yesterday's Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten with great interest because it goes right to the bottom line. In it Russia has a not so modest proposal to Europe: dump trade with the US, whose call for Russian "costs" has cost you another year of declining economic growth, and instead join the Eurasian Economic Union! From the source:

Russia has presented a startling proposal to overcome the tensions with the EU: The EU should renounce the free trade agreement with the United States TTIP and enter into a partnership with the newly established Eurasian Economic Union instead. A free trade zone with the neighbors would make more sense than a deal with the US.

It surely would, but then how will Europe feign outrage when the NSA is found to have spied yet again on its "closest trading partners?" Some more on Russia's proposal from EUobserver:

Vladimir Chizhov told EUobserver: “Our idea is to start official contacts between the EU and the EAEU as soon as possible. [German] chancellor Angela Merkel talked about this not long ago. The EU sanctions [on Russia] are not a hindrance”.

“I think that common sense advises us to explore the possibility of establishing a common economic space in the Eurasian region, including the focus countries of the Eastern Partnership [an EU policy on closer ties with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine]".

"We might think of a free trade zone encompassing all of the interested parties in Eurasia”.

He described the new Russia-led bloc as a better partner for the EU than the US, with a dig at health standards in the US food industry.

“Do you believe it is wise to spend so much political energy on a free trade zone with the USA while you have more natural partners at your side, closer to home? We don’t even chlorinate our chickens”, the ambassador said.

The treaty establishing the Eurasian Union entered into life on Thursday (1 January).

It includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia, with Kyrgyzstan to join in May.

Modelled on the EU, it has a Moscow-based executive body, the Eurasian Economic Commission, and a political body, the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, where member states’ leaders take decisions by unanimity.

It has free movement of workers and a single market for construction, retail, and tourism. Over the next 10 years, it aims to create a court in Minsk, a financial regulator in Astana and, possibly, to open Eurasian Economic Commission offices in Astana, Bishkek, Minsk, and Yerevan.

It also aims to launch free movement of capital, goods, and services, and to extend its single market to 40 other sectors, with pharmaceuticals next in line in 2016.

And as a reminder: The Eurasian Economic Union, a trade bloc of former Soviet states, expanded to four nations Friday when Armenia formally joined, a day after the union between Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan began.

So the ball is in your court, Europe: will it be a triple-dip (and soon thereafter quadruple: see Japan) recession as your Goldman-controlled central bank plunders ever more of what little is left of middle-class wealth with promises that this year - for real - is when it all turns around, or will Europe acknowledge it has had enough and shifts its strategic, and trade, focus from west (speaking of the TTIP, Germany's agriculture minister just said "We can't protect every sausage" referring to the TTIP) to east?

Considering just whose interests are represented by the unelected bureaucrats in Brussels, we won't be holding our breath.

Vlad is delusional if he thinks his expeditioanary force in the Ukraine and a Crimean adventure are enough to unseat Bretton Woods and 3/4 of a century of fiscal hegemony. Hell, Britain just finished paying off the Lend/Lease in 2006 and will not suffer those that have not paid dues lightly.

Maybe he's worried about history; Hitler was already invading the Sudentland when he was fifty and the clock is ticking on a 64 year old Putin. He should back off the testosterone.

The US couldn't lick a bunch of goatherders with AKs and Britain's military is worse.

Both have invaded and overthrown more countries than Hitler ever did - so you might double check your comparisons.

Neither is capable of fighting a land war in Western Russia, and they would not have the skies - at very least they would pay for the skies dearly.

The thumbs down counts illustrates once more the pro-Russian bias in ZH. No one bothers to review why Putin and company keep making this into a zero-sum game. We're not going anywhere and neither are they. Putin has some kind of death wish that we covet his country and resources. Who gives a f*k? The recent oil moves illustrate once more who has the greater pull financially. And while parts of Russia are quite nice, there is still a whole lot of nothing there too. I have no idea why these countries leaders keep pulling out their dicks to show how powerful they can be, and the propaganda they keep spouting. The US is the worst on propaganda I will be the 1st to admit, but quit BSing that Russia is some kind of damn innocent victum compared to the US. The Russian people have the leader they want, so don't stir up shit around the world like they have been doing with these provocative flynears, or cruisebys with their military assets, and things will be cool. As ZH has pointed out many times, the American people typically are only focused on day to day existence and in many cases survival. Manyy don't give a rat's ass about how Putin and Obama are facing off to each other. Technology has rendered a lot of the military confrontation unthinkable in any event.

It is okay! You are confused and in the works to sort it all out. It will come to you and then you will see, but until then riding the fence seems to be the safest bet. Just fall off on the correct side and you will be okay...

The realization will hit you one day, Russia just wants to be left alone and not be attacked, verbally, mentally, morally and or physically...

Lets try peace and not peace American style, for it does not work. Ask the goat herders in Afghanistan after they sent us running home. Just like the Gooks did in Nam...

like this...reality is Soviet was trying to stabilze country, building infrastructure, schools in Afghanistan and enforce

Womens rights...girls could attend school...later many girls were killed for wanting school.

Moderate Leader was murdered by radicals backed by outside agents.

Then extensive involvement from foreign governments

And Former Afghan Commanders tell Russians were better soldiers, not cowards.

Pray for Putin to remain in power in Russia as long as possible. Because in his place, can come another man, with much higher levels of testosterone.

If Russia right now will introduced the real power of the people (democracy), then 5 days later Russian tanks would stand in Kiev and on the border with Poland. Because 80% of the Russian population require that Putin do this right now.

TTIP and TPP are not about free trade. Look at the economic analysis of both. Neither shows much of an increase in trade. The goal of these treaties are moving market share to the chosen winner. These deals are death certificates for the small to medium size entities. The goal is to control trade not increase it or set it free. You want free trade- tell governments to mind their own business and to fix the highways. Governments world wide need to neutered- they cause more problems than they fix.

They amount to voluntary surrender of sovereignty. The killer is that once signed, a country can only leave if 100% of countries agree. That means the treaties are effectively irrevocable.

China wants to open as many trade links as possible with Europe. It makes sense for her, and Russia, to try to open up more and more infrastructural connectivity with Russia herself and thereby Europe. More access for Europe in to Asia also makes sense.

Good point about chicken.

"? We don’t even chlorinate our chickens”, the ambassador said"

It's true, in America we cool chicken carcasses it tanks of cold water.  In EU carcasses are cooled by passing through a tunnel of super-cooled air.

A single nick in the intestine of one chicken who is colonized with salmonella bacteria (Salmonella is common in the intestines of chickens harmless to them, deadly to humans) contaminates many, if not all the other cooling chicken carcasses.

The real reason why this is done: American consumers are stoooooopid.

Yup, the real reason is that while the chicken carcassess stew in the swill, they absorb water, at best 2%, at worst probably 6%.  Voila---1000 lbs of chicken turns into 1050 lbs.  The chlorine kills (hopefully) any errant Salmonella present.

While chicken often says: 1% retained water, take a package and weigh what the chicken tampon (the thing at the bottom filled with a gel absorbant) weighs--you'll likely be very surprised.

Since this process is not allowed in the EU I can only come to thej conclusion that most American consumers are too stupid to realize that their food is being compromised just so some company can make an extra 2-4%.

As long as the evil rothchillian/etc moneychanger central banksters that create all political sides and own all political puppets to pit against each other for fun, profits, control, and eventual world domination and POPULATION ELIMINATION are on the planet, there will never be a long lasting peace in europe. You get what you pay for with ignorance that keeps physically voting for the same old trashy bought and paid for leadership over and over and over and over and over and over again!

Same same in North america. Any country or people that grows weeds in their gardens of life continuously, deserves to eat the weeds they propagate and manifest in their nations garden of life.(in gardens, most weeds are not good as they suck the life giving nutrients from the food plants)

If you let the dogs and other assorted critters shat and pee upon your hard worked for green veggies, what are you eating? The world is moar content to eat the lizard shat and pee of ignorance these things leave behind them, than to eliminate the evil things and just go to the fields of prosperity and rewards themselves. Takes a real slave, to continue knowingly being the slave of the money-god.

I gotta believe this agitprop comes from the Medvedev/oligarch "fifth column" of Russia.  No way Putin, Lavrov and Glaziev are saying this.

Those men know europe cannot be trusted, they've said so.

Here's the thing most of you are unaware of;  Russia is not only resisting NATO, it is trying to resolve the conflicts between her western affiliated oligarchs and her own interests.

Tough row to hoe, but it looks to me as if Vlad, Sergei and Sergei are up to the task.  They are men of conviction-  Even the Chechens know this- and those guys can fuck you up- in a heartbeat-anywhere-anytime.

To top it off, the Chechens are polite, they know who the enemy is.  Remember the polite men in green we heard about during the Crimea referendum?  I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that they were mostly Chechen "volunteers".

Here's something else you won't believe-  They are predominately Muslim!

Good catch.  My Mother-in-law sent me a t-shirt from Russia, which is olive green with a large screen print of Putin with a hunting rifle and it says in Russian that "I am a polite man".  I do not see it for sale in the West although there are others for sale.  My Mother-in-law loves to send me t-shirts and a lot of them are very political in nature.  If I wore that t-shirt in the U.S. no one would understand.  After a year and a half of wearing my ZH hat no one was asked what it means either.

As for the Chechens, I really do not they will ever get along with Russians.  It just is not possible.  I don't blame the Russians for that because of what the Chechens did at Beslan was just wrong.  I can understand the hatred and I don't Russians really hate Americans per se.  I would say that is distrust.  If you look at history the U.S. has never directly fought the Russians save for one time in 1917 but that was an allied event and that is how the Soviet Union became a reality.  Very interesting reading.  It will start you on an adventure in history.

+1 to you

My first question is - why isn't 'Amerikan Patriot' smearing his verbal feces to and fro?

My next thought is, but for the American government, bought and paid for by you name the special interests, Americans and Russians would be engaging in trade without fear of war, collaborating on space, and putting pressure on both parties in the Israel/Palestine conflict to figure out some kind of final legal status agreement, disarm Hamas, remove most of the settlers, land swaps - and await the billions in tourist money from millions of Evangelicals who will spend most of their time accusing the peacemakers of being the anti-Christ, because their Messiah was supposed to bring nuclear fire and brimstone.

The American government is quite a different thing from the American people, and while the Russians may have someone more interested in defending their interests, the same, surely, goes for them.

I see it as smart Putin move.

it was made very public Obama was going to send Kissinger to Russia, this was his move to show the public he was interested in solving problems.

now Putin makes a public offer to eu. countries, to join in a trading partnership, for mutual benefit, which it would be, (as proven by current sanctions), showing his interest in solving problems.

I see this as Putin's way to bring the only issue needing discussion, Ukraine, and hopefully a public airing of events.

Putin's publicly offering the eu. citizens, and govt.'s a non-junta choice.

people are commenting on the offer, as it was going to be a Russian federation union, he offered a trading partner ship, for me he should've stated it as, renewed trading partnership, or pre us sanctions offer.

I called this a year ago; that Germany would go over to Russia's sphere of influence, because Germany is Gomer in Ezekiel 38:6, who with Togarmah (Turkey) and others are pulled into the Beautiful Land for fateful consequences in the later days. In The Tablet of Nations (Genesis 10), Gomer and Magog are both mentioned as sons of Japheth, the father of the gentile nations. Gog & Magog war.

TTIP is evil and must be stopped! It will lead to the erosion of social, labor and environmental rights. It is a neo-liberal takeover of society. Europeans can kiss goodbye to their 4 weeks paid holiday and 40 hour work week. And to their social benefits. Europeans will end up like Americans working their asses off in cubicles and having 14 days of holiday per year.

Some European countries are already 'enjoying' the 'benefits' of the 'liberalization' and privatization of their health care systems: instead of lower premiums and better health care they are getting exactly the opposite. So it will be with social rights and benfits: they will be privatized and people will need to pay more premiums for less rights. Got cancer? Too bad sucker, work! Broke your leg? Get back to work!

Environmental protection and environmental regulations will be lessened, posing threats not only to nature and biodiversity but will also expose people to environmental dangers. Already the new EC is lessening environmental regulations and restrictions. All under the banner of promising new jobs.

But the worst part of TTIP are the secret commercial arbitrage courts that will dominate national courts. So if a government decides to ban GMO then Mon$satan can take the government to court and sue for damages. (and btw, the introduction of GMO in Europe is also part of TTIP, never mind that a majority of Europeans don't want them).

This is all negociated in secret cause they don't want you to know.

But Europeans are taking action. Already over 1 million signatures were collected and offered to the EC on Juncker's birthday. The EC refused the petition on baseless grounds.

This evil must be stopped!

Some dots for you to connect:

1. Putin for years has been preaching a pan-Eurasian free trade zone, speaking of free trade "From Barcelona to Beijing" or something like that.

2.  The US push into Ukraine was the latest of the moves of the US and NATO into former USSR east-European satellites.  The push into Ukraine was meant by the US to drive a wedge between the EU and Russia, since the US saw Russia and the EU developing closer and stronger economic and political ties ever since Putin took office. The US/EU/NATO push into Ukraine has been successful, with sanctions installed and political hostility raised.  The push was also payback for Russia frustrating US/Israel intentions to invade Syria and unseat Assad.

3.  Exxon and Chevron meant to frack Ukraine's oil fields and Black Sea territories, and the EU wanted the rich farmland ("lebensraum").  When Crimea went with Russia and Donetsk and Lugansk tried to do the same, there has been civil war, and the industrialized regions of Ukraine are in rebel hands.  Chevron has announced it is giving up on Ukraine.

4. Ukraine owed Russia for gas supplied in 2013 and 2014 and refused to pay the bill, hoping the EU or US would pony up the money.  Of the $3 Billion advanced by the IMF from its new 2014 loan, 90% ($2.7 Billion) disappeared into the Swiss bank accounts of various oligarchs, apparently.  Russia cut off Ukraine's share of the gas in June.  Poland and Lithuania then reversed flows back to Ukraine to keep Ukraine supplied.  Then Gazprom suffered "technical difficulties" in supplying Poland in the exact amount that Poland was diverting to Ukraine, and the EU got the message.  A deal was brokered in November for Ukraine to pay its gas bill arrears in instalments and pay up front for future gas, and gas supply was restored in December 2014.  Russia has also started supplying coal and electricity to Ukraine without payment in advance, apparently as a goodwill gesture and to ensure supplies of electricity by Ukraine to Crimea. It has become clear that Ukraine is an economic basket case and a huge liability for anyone who wants to take it over.  The US and EU do not want the bill, and the IMF is unwilling to advance funds under agreed loans.  Kiev says it needs another $17 Billion for 2015 or it faces default.  The apparent reluctance to adopt Donetsk and Lugansk as part of Russia may be because Russia was not willing to take the financial burden of renovating its antiquated mines and factories, and paying its social programs (pensions, medical, etc.).

5. In December, 2014, the EU announced that they wanted Russia to contribute money to bail out the Kiev government.  The kremlin must be shaking with laughter.  The EU is starting to realize how much the loss of the Russian market for its goods is hurting the EU, just as the EU is sliding back into recession.  EU business people are demanding action by their political leaders to drop the sanctions against Russia, but Merkel et. al. are turning a deal ear.  Unbeknownst to most is the fact that the US Federal Reserve floated about $70 Trillion US to EU banks in 2009-2010, to keep them from crashing, so the EU leadership is scared nickerless of offending the US.  Merkel is also rumored to be under threat from the US to reveal dirt from Stasi files.  She also is rumored to carry enormous paranoia over fear that Russia will invade Germany, and without US forces to derfend Germany, Russia would be able to overrun Germany quickly.

6. EU leaders fell all over themselves to sign up Euro/Yuan trade deals with China when Chariman XI visited Europe last summer.  The US/EU/NATO push in Ukraine and financial war on Russia has been successful in pushing Russia away from political, trade and financial ties with the EU and Western banks and into ties with China, the BRICS, and Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries.  China and Russia have signed deals on gas pipelines, railways, and financial ties.  During the fall of the Ruble, China stated that it would prevent the fall of Russia's financial system.

7.  TTIP and TPP are the latest moves in the agenda of the multinational corporations (MNCs) to extend their power over national governments, to move trade dispute settlement into private arbitration panels, and neuter government power to enact any rule or regulation that would hinder trade, such as food safety regulations or financial regulations, etc.  MNCs have already gutted the American middle class by moving factories to low-wage low-regulation countries while selling their products to American consumers, and providing cheap credit (vendor financing) to those same consumers.  Monsanto and the other big chemical companies want to remove barriers to their moves to control world food production through chemical-dependent GMOs and patent laws.

8. The Caspian Sea and Black Sea areas are targets for geopolitical moves by the US, NATO, EU, and Russia, being rich in oil and gas and being of strategic importance as gateways for Russia to the Middle East and Asia.  The US has been trying to increase its influence in these areas, and to include Turkey and the nations surrounding the Caspian as US satellites.

9. Turkey has been in NATO since 1952 and has been trying to get EU membership for 20 years, but the EU has always found some reason to deny entry.

10. The EU gets a lot of its oil and about 36% of its natural gas from Russia.  Having its pipelines run through Ukraine was a headache since Ukraine is so corrupt and chaotic that it did not pay its gas bills and stole gas meant go to the EU, so Russia cut off all gas supplies in 2006 and 2009.  To get around the Ukraine problem, the North Stream pipeline under the Baltic Sea to Germany was completed in 2012, and in 2007 Russia proposed the South Stream pipeline across the Black Sea to Bulgaria, through Serbia, Hungary, and Slovenia to Austria.  The EU and US, advising that diversity of suppliers was better, pushed the competing Nabucco/TANAP gas line from the Caspian area through Turkey, Bulgaria, and Romania to Austria.  Possible suppliers would then be Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Iraq, Iran, Kazakhstan and Egypt.  Iran was then ruled out by the US, Iraq and Egypt fell out of the running for instability, and Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan indicated they were reluctant to annoy Russia by agreeing to supply gas for a project that competed with the Russian South Stream.  Cost finally ruled out the Nabucco/TANAP project when it became clear that the cost would be too high for the volume of gas promised by suppliers.  The coup de grace came in 2013 when Azerbaijan chose the TAP pipeline across Turkey to Greece instead of TANAP. Nabucco was killed along with TANAP.

11. In the meantime, the EC/EU raised bureaucratic blocks to South Stream in the form of "competition rules" in the "Third Energy Package" in 2009, after agreements for the South Stream line had been signed. Russia maintained that the Third Energy Package contravened WTO  rules.   Austria, Hungary, and Bulgaria said they would ignore the new EC rules. The EC threatened lawsuits against them.  Then John McCain visited the head of Bulgaria in late 2014 (November?) and voila! Bulgaria said it would deny permits for the line.

12. The McCain/Bulgaria/EC move to frustrate South Stream was seen as having 2 main motives: 1. Keep Russia under threat of disruption of the Ukraine pipelines, to increase the pressure on Russia to cave to US/EU/NATO ambitions in Ukraine; and 2. Force Gazprom and Russia to hand over part ownership, control, and use of the pipeline to EC cronies, and perhaps force reductions in the price of gas from Russia.

13. On December 1, 2014, Putin announced from Turkey that the South Stream would be diverted from Bulgaria to Turkey, along with the 63 Billion cubic metres of natural gas per year, with a hub to be built at the Turkey/Greece border.  Juncker of the EC and the EU nations along the old route immediately announced that all the impediments to the old route would magically be made to disappear, and opined that Putin's decision was not final. Putin ignored them.  Turkey's Erdogan announced that Turkey was giving up on EU membership and was not too happy with NATO membership either, then allowed that he might be persuaded to join the EU if he got enough bribes and kisses.  Some see Turkey's assertions as indicating that Turkey is now changing its alliance to the Eurasian bloc and away from the US/EU bloc.

14. Bulgaria, Hungary, Serbia, Montenegro, and Austria have now lost access to Russian natural  gas free of the Ukraine uncertainties, and all but Montenegro have lost the future transit fees of about $500 Million per year each, and also the economic benefits of pipeline construction.  They are not happy, and with the EC, are pressing for Russia to revive South Stream.   The Russians are refusing the approaches for renewed contacts on South Stream.

15. The fate of the TAP pipeline across Turkey is left hanging for the moment.

16. The Greeks have had just about enough of austerity imposed as part of the 'bailout" of the French and German banks that had made loans to Greek banks and had bought Greek Sovereign bonds.  The bailout funds went to the French and German banks that held Greek government bonds and IOUs from Greek banks.  All the debt was assumed by the Greek government and taxpayers, along with the austerity rules meant to ensure the government would cut back on spending on social programs and inftrastructure spending and devote its money to paying off the debts.   Many Greeks were relieved from having to go to work every day and paying rent, since they can now sleep on the streets.  Medical care has been cut, along with life expectancy, so many will not have to live so long under the austerity program.

17. Now it looks like there may be a political upheaval Greece,  the party leading in the polls says it will seek a writeoff of much of the debt, failing which it is feared Greece will repudiate/default on the debt, and maybe leave the Eurozone.  Germany says it does not care - its banks long since sold off the Greek bonds to bigger fools.  Germany is warning Greece that if it defaults, it will have no source of financing.  Some say a Greek default and Grexit will rock the tottering foundations of the EU financial mechanisms.  Russia and China are staying silent.

18. The announced South Stream gas hub at the Turkey/Greek border is verrrry interrresting.... That may be Putin and Erdogan's hint to Greece that Greece can join in an Eastern bloc and hold the EU to ransom for natural gas supplies to the southern EU.  The US has been trying to encircle Russia and isolate it, but it appears Putin is trying to draw a line through the Black Sea, Turkey and Greece severing the EU from Asia and the Middle East.

19. Russia is hosting talks between North and South Korea, seeking to get a pipeline deal to take natural to North Korea and South Korea and perhaps even across to Japan.

20. Russia recently doubled its pipeline capacity to its Pacific Ocean coast, and is building LNG plants there for exports, and seeking to expand its oil export facilities there.

21. Russia, as part of its political and trade relations with the EU, gave a contract to France to build 4 Mistral helicopter carrier ships.  Under pressure from the US, France has  refused to deliver the ships, exposing France to significant financial penalties, paying back the monies paid down by Russia, and facing the loss of shipyard jobs.  French workers are not happy.

22. Saudi Arabia has announced it will buy military equipment from Russia instead of the US or EU.

23. On December 14, 2014, Obama recently signed the Ukraine Freedom Support Act (UFSA) which provides for $350 Million in military supplies to Ukraine, arms to Moldova and Georgia, increased funding for Radio Free Europe, and for sanctions against Russia if it supplies arms to any east European or Central Asian nation (some of which Russia already has mutual defence treaties with).  This is seen as a thinly disguised declaration of open warfare against Russia.

24. The website WhatDoesItMean.com carried a story dated Dec. 23 "EU In Total Horror As Russia Prepares New "Nazi Law", stating that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has advised EU diplomats that the Parliament of the Russian Federation is considering a law that would require the Russian government to cut off the supply of natural gas, oil, and other natural resources to any nation or military alliance of nations that: 1. Has failed to support the UN resolution condemning attempts to glorify Naziism ideology and denial of German Nazi war crimes; 2. Has used Nazi torture techniques against POWs or civilians; or 3. has conducted mass executions of unarmed civilians.

The new law would apply to: 1. the USA, Canada, and Ukraine for voting against the UN resolution; 2. the US, UK, Australia and 51 allied nations for the torture set out in the just-released Senate report on torture; and 3. the USA and Ukraine for the mass killing of the passengers of Malaysian flights MH17 and  MH370, for which the Russians say there is mounting evidence of the complicity of the Ukraine and USA.

This law is also clearly aimed at Ukraine's ultra-nationalist Pravy Sektor and Svoboda  neo-Nazis whose members have been formed into Kiev's National Guard and who are implicated in atrocities against the civilian population of east Ukraine, with mass graves having been found, and stories of young women being held as sex slaves for National Guard members and then murdered. These acts would fall within the definition of use of torture, so Russia could, under this law, cut off all gas to the EU countries that have expressed support for Ukraine, and all other members of NATO.  Russia warned the USA on Dec.14 against the adoption of UFSA and sanctions under UFSA, and the new Anti-Nazi law is in response to Obama's adoption of UFSA.

The adoption of this proposed "Anti-Nazi" law would mean the immediate cessation of gas and oil shipments from Russia to the EU and Ukraine.  That would have severe effects upon industries and require rationing of home heating fuels.

 25.  By declaring sanctions against Russia which cut off access to Western capital markets, Russia and Russian firms have been forced to turn to Chinese financial markets.  Western oil firms were forced by the sanctions to stop participation in joint ventures to explore and develop oil and gas fields in Russia.  Those firms that obey the sanctions face the loss of concession rights under joint-venture agreements for failure to perform.  Total SA of France announced that it would proceed in Russia in spite of sanctions, and its President was killed shortly thereafter in a plane crash that the Russians say was arranged by the CIA.

26.  The sanctions and fall in the price of oil have hurt the value of the Russian Ruble.  However, Russian sales of oil and gas are for international prices, so the fall of the Ruble has not hurt revenues, but the fall in international prices will.  Ironically, the fall in the Ruble may give Russia a head start in the race to devalue among the various currencies of the World.  Also ironically, EU auto manufacturers got scalded when the Ruble fell, as they were forced to continue to sell in Russia at prices previously announced in Rubles, and many Russians rushed to spend their falling Rubles for new cars.  When the automakers converted the sales proceeds to Euros, they got much less than planned.

27.  The weakening World economy has led to some $9 Trillion US in carry trade funds (borrowed in the US at low interest rates and invested in emerging markets at higher rates of return) fleeing back to the US and into US stocks and bonds, pushing up the value of the Dollar and pushing down returns on bonds.

28. The fall in the prices of oil and natural gas will hit US shale producers hard, with high-yield shale bonds already tanking and effects feared throughout the bond markets.  Shale drillers are cutting drilling plans, and high-paying shale-patch jobs are disappearing.  US oil and gas production will fall as wells deplete, but there is a large glut of oil worldwide, so oil and gas prices may not recover for some years.

29. The Federal Reserve announced "tapering" of QE some months ago, and hinted at eventual interest rate increases, but the rate increase date keeps disappearing into the future and it is apparent that the Fed is in league with Wall Street to keep the stock market bouyed with cheap money, in spite of weak and weakening economic fundamentals.  If the Fed ever cuts off QE and interest rates rise, the US government will have to declare bankruptcy or ditch the Federal Reserve Note and print its own dollars.

30. Under Abenomics, the Bank of Japan is on a mad money-printing binge, trying to devalue the Yen and reinflate the ancient Japanese miracle bubble of 1988.  The Yen is falling, but so is Japan's balance of trade.

31.  There are fears of a meltdown in China, and the PBOC recently announced more easing.  Meantime, China has built enough steel-making capacity to supply all the World's needs, but demand is slowing, as is demand for coal and iron ore, copper, and other commodities.

32. Australia is gasping for air as its coal, iron ore, and petroleum export volumes crash, along with prices, and the government tries to keep the people distracted with immigration and refugee scandals.

33. The tar sands producers in Canada must be losing sleep as they see the World prices of oil and gas go below their costs of production, and the federal government honchos must need changes of underwear frequently.

34,  Turkey, Israel and the CIA keep funding and supplying ISIS, while the US pretends to bomb ISIS in Syria while hitting Syrian government infrastructure.  ISIS has been successful as it forced al Maliki to resign the Presidency of Iraq, but Iran retains significant influence in Iraq, and Syria's Assad continues to enjoy support from Iran and Russia, but Russia is pressing Assad to reach some political settlement with anti-Assad forces and with Turkey.

Agree, a top notch summary. I would just add

Point 3 Shell has also backed out of fracking in Ukraine. Chevron backed out even tho' its fields were in the west, well away from fighting. Part of the IMF deal seems to be Monsanto into Ukraine with GMO.

Point 4 Gazprom has received the $3B payment of old debts promised by Ukraine but as of now no money for January gas. The deal comes up for review in March. The 'free' coal and electricity may be a Russian attempted defence against the 'cutting off gas' trigger in UFSA.

Point 13-15, 18 It looks like the Russians will run the new TurkStream pipes onto the Western side of Turkey. In effect just routing the SouthStream pipes a bit further south. This avoids any future 'what goes in the pipe' issues that might have happened with a new pipe running on land across Turkey to Greece from the current Russian pipe landing spot. It looks like it is only Bulgaria has lost out on access and transit fees as any replacement pipe will run through the other counties via Greece. Gazprom bought out for cash all the other companies in Southstream ensuring no ill will from them towards Russia.

Point 19 Russia seems to have been testing the rail lines to N Korea for coal transit.

Point 20 Russia has contracted two new pipes with the Chinese. They are discussing a third. If the third gets built it will be competing with gas supplies with the TurkStream pipe due to gasfield limitations.

Point 21-22 One of the side effects of the crash in the ruble may be India dumping the delayed French $20B Rafale fighter deal to buy more Russian planes. This would probably please the US as it would effectively kill the future of that plane and take it out of future competitions with the F-35.

Point 26 Many EU car manufactures already have assembly plants in Russia. This will increase that trend. At current exchange rates their production would be very competitive exported back into the EU. Daimler Benz is still pushing ahead with plans for a plant ATM.

Point 28 Almost all jobs created in the US over the last five years have been shale oil/gas related, from equipment manufacturers to bar staff and cleaners. When these role back there will be a lot of pain.

Here you go and I dote on this coin because it just so Imperial Russia.  They made a fractional gold coin.  Excuse me while I laugh at that one because that is just awesome and that would be the centerpeice of almost any collection.  They only made 225 of them.  My old 2008 KM book says they are $75,000 USD.  I can't afford one of those but it is amazing.  You never see that coin.  I would just like to see one those coins.

I collect old Russian coins when I can find them.  There just are not many out there and when I show them to Russians they are perplexed as what they are looking at.  The most common question is "How  did you get these."  I have Russian coins that most Russians have never even seen or knew exist.  They always want to know to where I got them and all I can say is that I just keep looking until you find one and you will have to look because they are rare.  I have been searching for 15 years and they are plenty of rare coins to be had.  I will get out my KM book and show them all that they had.  It is depressing for them in a way as well as how depressing it is for us.  It is not an investment thing was but rather what your money was and not what it is now.  I have always said this.

I have given away more Silver Eagles then I should have but at the same time I really want everyone to know monetary history.  It is not just Russians.  Money is hard metal.  Money is not credit.  This is why I give out sleeved silver dimes to children who come to play with my children.  I may be just wasting silver but I had it give it a go.

Not as long as long as I walk this earth with a shovel in my hand will I ever back down.

After "Europe" ( Hitler, Napolean) had invaded Russia in the previous two centuries killing tens of millions of Russians, Russia merely returned the favor to Europe after WW2 but not with as high body count.

And then there was that nasty little Polish invasion of Russia in 1920 while Russians were having a civil war.   The Poles decided to take advantage of the chaos to grab some turf and wack some heathen Orthodox Russians for the Pope, which they have been doing off and on for centuries.  The Russian body count wasn't nearly as high as Hitler's or Napolean's invasions, but the Poles still managed to squeeze in a fair amount of killing, looting, pillaging, and raping within the confines of Russia.

If you want to go a few more centuries back in time, there were numerous earlier invasions of Russia by Europeans (e.g. Poles, Prussians, Lithuanians, Swedes, etc.).   And of course there was the Mongol invasion in the 13th century.   In fact Russia has probably experienced nore brutal invasions than any country on the face of the earth today.  Except for the Mongols, the Russians managed to repel all of the invasions, but with high cost in blood and treasure.  In a historical context, who can therefore blame Russia for wanting to have some buffer turf between it and the warmongering Russian-hating Europeans.

Back then they used different terms, "Intervention", "Expedition" instead of "Democracy" and "Freedom".

With the US consumer on life support does anyone need them anymore?

This is why everyone liked the US, its consumers were once seen as the the engine of the global economy.

Now the 0.1% have ransacked the US and they have all the wealth does anyone actually need them?

The 0.1% are the corporate shysters that go to any lengths to avoid paying tax in the country they take profits.

We can do without them.

Wall Street bankers who nearly crashed the Western financial system in 2008 and produce trillions of pointless derivatives, who needs them?

What has the US got to offer the world these days?

US foreign policy that is supposed to bring democracy but in reality only creates civil wars in every country it gets involved with.

The US, what is the point of it?

(Appologies to the 99.9% of decent US citizens, but you have got to do something about your elite).

The US is still useful to TPTB since:

1. the US has a huge military with about 900 bases worldwide, satellite coverage of the Earth, and immense intelligence and beind-the-scenes capabilities, and regularly uses its capabilities to push its agendas worldwide;

2. The US Federal Reserve has created vast amounts of US Dollars to keep the Western banking system afloat since 2008.  Max Keiser reported some time ago that the US Fed had created and lent about $70 Trillion to European banks after the 2009-2010 meltdown to enable them to meet US Dollar denominated obligations.  The Fed has also created vast amounts of US Dollars to keep the US, the Wall Street Casino (from which the 1% have extracted huge amounts of money), and its military afloat;

3. The US Congress and President are fully bought and controlled by TPTB.  TPTB do not even try to conceal the fact, as shown by Jamie Dimon and Citi putting an amendment in the CRomnibus bill of December 2014 that gutted Dodd-Frank and put the US treasury and taxpayers on the hook for any losses Wall Street suffers from their $303 Trillion or so of outstanding derivatives bets, in the face of whistle-blowers in Congress like Elizabeth Warren;

4. the US has a permanent seat on the UN Security Council and is not embarassed to use its power to further its interests and the interests of its allies in blatant defiance of the truth and the hypocrisy of its positions;

5.  The US Dollar remains the World Reserve Currency, at least for the moment;

6.  The US economy remains huge, and is a favored destination for manufacturers to sell their products; and

7. The US has some of the biggest and best-regarded universities in the World, which accept students from around the World, and much of the leading scientific research is done in the US.

It seems that only the EU leaders fail to recognise that the US is prepared to sacrifice Europe in its drive for a unipolar world. The new paradigm on offer is a multi polar trade agreement across continents which will benefit the many rather than the few. This, of course will leave the US isolated, unless there is a complete reversal of the insane foreign policies adopted by the crazies in Washington. Could 2015 be the year that the globalists are removed from power?

While much of the "evidence" claimed by NATO and Kiev as showing Russian involvement in east Ukraine has been shown to be false, I would be surprised if Russia was not providing some elements of military aid to the Donetsk and Lugansk provisional forces, to counter the CIA, Blackwater mercenaries, and neo-Nazi National Guard allegedly funded by Kolomoisky, and which National Guard carried out the Odessa murders and numerous murders of civilians in east Ukraine.  After the defeat of the Kiev armed forces and National Guard in east Ukraine and their retreat westward, civilians in the area led investigators to mass graves of people murdered by the Kiev forces and National Guard.  Civilians said the National Guard had kidnapped women from east Ukraine and held them as sex slaves before murdering them.

Putin and Russia have been careful to avoid overt military involvement in Lugansk and Donetsk, to avoid the propaganda trap set by the US/EU/NATO cabal who keep shouting that Russia wants to invade Europe.  The US has no qualms about direct military involvement in Ukraine, and the Ukraine Freedom Security Act (UFSA) signed in December by Obama provides for $350 Million in arms to be provided to Kiev.

One of the most serious traps set by the US and Kiev was the downing of MH17 in March 2014, which the US and Kiev immediately blamed on Russia and the rebels in east Ukraine.  Kiev released tape recordings allegedly of rebel leaders discussing their success in downing the airliner with a Russian general, but Dahboo 7 identified time codes in the alleged tape recordings which showed that they were uploaded to a Kiev server the day BEFORE the plane was downed.  A European researcher also found that the tapes had been sliced and diced from previously recorded conversations to fabricate the alleged conversations.  Russia has released its radar and satellite records to disprove the Kiev and US allegations, but Kiev and the US have concealed all their radar, air-traffic control, and satellite records.  Just recently, a Ukrainian Air Force member who was on ground duty on the day MH17 was downed came forward and disclosed that a Ukrainian jet returned to base with its weapons having been deployed and the pilot looking very upset.  The pilot stated that "we shot the wrong plane", or words to that effect.

NATO and US State Department spokespersons have repeatedly claimed they had evidence of Russian forces moving into Ukraine, but refused to show that "evidence" or even specify what that alleged evidence was.  Pictures of a Russian Buk missile carrier were shown with allegations that it had been used to down MH17, but it was later determined that this "evidence" was extremely dubious, and that there was no missile contrail from a gound-based missile toward MH17.  Radar and satellite evidence showed Ukrainian Air Force jets approaching MH17 just before it was downed, and a European pilot and crash investigator determined from photographs of MH17 wreckage that what appeared to be 30mm cannon shell holes were in the cockpit wall next to the first officer's seat and in the left wing of MH17, consistent with it having been shot by a Ukrainian Air Force fighter jet.

As for Russian military movements and military exercises, NATO and the US have repeatedly complained of Russian exercises in Russian territory as being threats to Ukraine, while NATO has held exercises in territories near the Russian border.  Kettle, meet pot.

Not only would I not be surprised to see open help by Russian soldiers in East Ukraine, I am beginning to think it might be a good thing.  Somebody has to protect Eastern Ukrainians from all the foreign mercenaries and neo-Nazi volunteers from Kiev.  If they agreed to stop fighting and bow to Kiev, I'm afraid the neo-Nazi brigades would burn down Donetsk and Lugansk and slaughter everyone in them.

This is sounding more and more like the Spanish civil war.  All the foreigners jump into the fight on various sides.

Let's face it Europe is moving in one direction and the US another.

European history has been about the gradual move from:

absolute monarch -> aristocracy -> meritocracy

Interestingly, US history seems to be working in reverse:

meritocracy -> aristocracy (0.1%) -> absolute monarch

Today they are forming their aristocracy (0.1%) and when one of these families dominates they will move to an absolute monarch (following current trends).

How about a sweep stake for first US monarch?

Jamie I (Dimon)

Lloyd I (Blankfein)

This is an appeal to the Rothschilds to abandon their domination machine.

It reveals a fundamental lack of understanding of why things are the way they are.  Governments don't drive policy.  Elites drive policy using government.  It is not a subtle distinction.

CLIFF NOTES:

The Rockefellers became deputies to the Rothschilds.  The Morgans went into the deal with them to remain relevant, and have since declined in influence, relatively speaking.  The establishment of the Federal Reserve was EXPLICITY for the purpose of bailing out the then British Empire, the center of the Rothschild financial apparatus, which was already massively over-extended BEFORE WWI allowed (ALLOWED NOT FORCED) them to publicly leave the Gold Standard.

ERGO...the Fed is a Rothschild expansion mechanism, that colonized the US, and used the US's industrial power to bridge transition costs and politically settle Europe...ergo...the EU.

Russia, you are barking at the wrong end of the dog.

Good luck with that.  I wish I were wrong.  But I am not.

The problem with Europe's economy is not sufficient trading partners, or the "right" trading partners, the problem with Europe's economy is it's high level of regulation and taxes. It is now adding demographic disturbances to the mix.

Draghi knows this, and has urged the leaders of the European states to lower taxes and regulation, but that is a thing they will not do. It would limit their power to enrich themselves and their cronies and so is off the table. All that is left on the table... is rearranging the deck chairs and listening to the lovely tune of the printing presses as the ship goes down.

"The End Game is underway and in progress
People had better prepare themselves for some conclusion events, certain to occur with fireworks.
The USDollar is soon to go away, put to rest, killed off
Its rise signals its demise.  The hidden dismantle of the Petro-Dollar mechanism has been eerie, mysterious, and full of intrigue.   The crisis is better described as the Global Monetary War.
The Gold Standard will return, but through the trade window.  The solution to the untreated Global Financial Crisis is the gold route.
The Eurasian Trade Zone will be built upon the gold route, and see a revival of the Silk Road.
It cannot be stopped, not even by war.

The safe haven is not the USDollar, but rather Gold & Silver bars & coins, otherwise defined as money.
Any nation wishing to establish trade or a monetary system centered upon gold is branded a rogue nation, subject to extreme propaganda. This is precisely why Russia is being vilified, since they want no more USDollar in trade or banking, and lead a global movement to discard the USD as global reserve currency.
The solution is with precious metals as the core to banking, trade, and currency, even wealth preservation.

The agents of change are working at hyper-speed nowThe USDollar is doomed, and its captains are running for their lives.
The return of Gold to its primacy is long overdue." . . . .

Problem solving the old style way was a SOULution for healing the ailments of the heart, mind, and body. If you heal the heart, you can heal the mind and body. Peace in all these parts of the human make-up was always the peacemakers choice. Harmony comes when the mind, body, and heart are all in synchronicity with each other, and not conflicting. Say for instance, the mind conflicting with the body, or the body conflicting with the heart, or worst among all, the mind conflicting with the heart, and body.

One way shower said once, the heart has it's own mind. Listen to it, and not the easily fooled and conditioned brain moar often, than most times. Feed your mind with knowledge, and feed the heart with love. Call that balance. Even Steven.

The ancient and right proper way is not found in the more modern Hegelian dialectic way of problem solving, where more often than not violence is used for ulterior reasons and mostly for profiting from the created disaster in the second part(anti-thesis) of the twisted and evil dialectic idiocy it really is, rather we find it in a much simpler for third graders to grasp and understand methodology.

The easy formula is identify the problem, consciously from a proper place of edumacation CHOOSE to either eliminate it from your life if possible, or to embrace that very thing that is identified as the problem. Example? Lets say Peter has a problem walking and running because his shoe laces are not tied safely. So, identifying the problem as the shoe laces are untied, is the first step of healing and already 75% on the way towards solving the problem. The final step is deciding to embrace the problem by letting the shoe laces remain untied, or to solve, eliminate, and release the problem by safely tying up shoelaces.

Hummm...

Ignorance and the embracing of a blatant in your face to the point of deep uncomfort in the heart-place problems, is pure ignorance. The greatest of all sins to God and Creation is ignorance of the All Love that it all is. Where does anything but love, fit in well at in this 3-d world? For crackers and biscuits at tea time, it is ALL LOVE on the other side.

The common Law is, if you do not harm anyone or their properties, you are not violating any Law. If you do harm anyone, or anyones properties, you are in violation of the Law and should be immediately trespassed and brought to the righteous non-corrupted Scales of Justice NOW! The world of the future will have no time for idiotic explanations as reasons for denying this basic Law that each Soul on board has engraved deep in the heart, like it is in eternal Stone. Denile, is not just a river in Egypt!

Most of may go down in flames of glory, but the words of many many many such Messnejahs will be left here on ZH for posterity and future generations to understand how, and why the world of Love turned into the lost empire of chaotic dust.

Choose well, the paths you ALL take.

Nosy folks here, too!
