Murderous Son, Who Killed His Hedge Fund Father Over $200 Allowance, Was A Princeton Economist Grad

Tyler Durden's picture

The most bizarre story from the past weekend was the shocking murder of Tom Gilbert, 70, founder of the Wainscott biotech-focused hedge fund, who was shot dead in his Sutton Place apartment on Sunday Afternoon: shocking because the alleged shooter was none other than his Millennial, hence unemployed, 30-year-old son. What was certainly unclear at the time was what would be the motivation of a son to kill his successful and wealthy father, especially in such dramatic cold blood.

We now know not only the motivation, thanks to AP:

The son of a millionaire Manhattan hedge fund founder who allegedly gunned down his dad over his allowance has been arraigned on a second-degree murder charge, authorities said.

A law enforcement source told the New York Post that Thomas Gilbert Jr. had just been told by his father that he would only receive $400 for spending money per month from that point on in addition to $2,400 per month for rent. The younger Gilbert had previously received $600 per month.

"She [Mrs. Gilbert] found Senior on the floor with a bullet hole in the head," said Boyce. "She also found a gun resting on his chest with his left hand covering it."

... but also the alleged psychopath's background:

Gilbert Jr. attended Princeton, graduating in 2009 with a degree in economics. Authorities said he had no recent work history.

...

Gilbert Jr. has a pending criminal case in the town of Southampton, on eastern Long Island.

Gilbert Jr., who has an address in the hamlet of Wainscott, was arrested Sept. 18 on a charge of criminal contempt. Southampton town police say he violated an order of protection issued in Brooklyn in June. Police say he confronted a man named Peter N. Smith at Sagg Main Beach in Sagaponack on Sept. 1.

He has pleaded not guilty and has a Feb. 2 court date scheduled.

Still, remember: when dealing with murderous psychopathic Princeton economists, correlation is not always causation.

Says it all, well, a bit redacted....

Gilbert Jr. attended Princeton, graduating in 2009 with a degree in economics, having studied under the Nobel Prize Winning Economist Paul Krugman, who described "Jr." as "The smartest guy in the room, particularly suited to doing God's works.", never worked a day in his spoiled rotten self-centered Progressive life.  Upon his attest, Jr. was overheard saying to the booking officer and attending homicide detective, "Fuck's the matter?  Every day is Sunday for me so I shouldn't have to work, assholes."

I know a few people who qualified to go to top end schools. None of them were slackers and all of them worked their asses off to qualify to be accepted. None of them would have been satisfied to sit around doing nothing and living off of dad. This asshat obviously doesn't fit that description so his father must have bought his way into Princeton, which tells me all I have to know about the fuckers running that joint. This pampered, soon to be professional cocksucker and dick warmer, will wish he inherited some motivation along with that money.

I agree with you about kids working their ass off to get into schools. I know some as well.

The father was a Princeton grad so the son had an inside track as a legacy applicant. The father was also most likely was a donor to the University. In that sense, you're correct, the father bought his son's way in via donations.

I'm thinking that the causes for patricide probably go a little deeper than its perp being pampered and lazy. Unless Sonny Boy is a paranoid schizophrenic who is hallucinating and doesn't know right from wrong, I'd guess that Daddy Dear has inflicted some kind of chronic heavy-duty abuse on the poor fucker going way back.

The fact that he paid his way through Princeton means nothing. Money in general means nothing. The rage was against the abuse.

I'm not making an excuse for the fucker, BTW. A lot of people suffer badly at the hands of their fathers and/or mothers and manage to get over it and do just fine. But this kind of rage goes far deeper than the mere lack of motivation of a rich brat.

>>> The rage was against the abuse.

I know nothing of the facts in this case.  As an anecdote though, I have known - well - the son of a NYC CEO and pal of David Rockefeller.  There was MAJOR league father-son abuse in the family, and I don't mean sexual... just physical abuse of a small child, and the dis-inheriting of a college student making the "wrong" career choice.  Ugly stuff, within a "priveledged" family, living in a "priviledged" NYC neighborhood;  I suspect this sort of stuff is reasonably common:  after all, even a "good" family life can be difficult at times, and with these people the Big Bucks are always looming in the background.

Liberals are not reproducing, so in 2 or 3 more generations they will not exist.  Maybe its the women trying to be men and being unhappy or the men never actually growing up and being boys in mens bodies.  Who knows but the simple fact is they are not reproducing so time is on our side.

The liberal-versus-conservative axis is a politico-media shell game only bought into by dupes, stoops, and jackasses.

Plainly, the statist elites want the underclass to breed at the expense of the middle class. In order to restore the social order that has predominated throughout human history, and that dominates most of the world's populations today. That is, a tiny elite ruling a mass of easily-tractable peons, debt slaves, and low brow criminals.

Good enough for Kenya, good enough for the United States.

Broken children without a tree?

A lot of kids today are brought up in institutions, or, for the wealthier, by whatever friends they can find (other brats, tv, social media iFriends). All because women decided work makes free (and men before them). The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, but sometimes it is eaten and shat out far away by a squirrel (government or some other ideological institution).

We are watching Johnny Appleseed, social darwinist version. Raised by sheep in wolves' clothing, and now given SSRIs...

They will murder to eat. They certainly will not work. They think that we are even supposed to provide jobs.

No. They are supposed to CREATE JOBS. You make your own path in this world.

(Look at HH's post about the asteroid yesterday, asking the posters to respond about whether or not they'd be willing to kill and steal to eat. Many admitted that. The punk didn't do it right. He might have tried kneecapping the old man, then asking for the other 200.

He skipped, "pretty please with sugar on it" altogether.

Or, "that's a nice frontal lobe you have there, it'd be a shame if somethin happened to it."

"He skipped, "pretty please with sugar on it" altogether."

Actually, in his 30 some years he probably tried every angle.

His dad likely made him pay for every gift with a verbal takedown. It got the

ole' man somewhere in the office, but it doesn't work with children.

Dad sewed the wind and reaped the whirlwind.

Really, small time compared to some economists.  Marx and Milton (from the Chicago school) have caused more deaths than can be counted.  And they didn't even own guns.  I would think a high falutten school like Princeton would produce economists that can rack up the body count.  I'm disappointed.

So he's 30 and he graduated in 2009 from Princeton meaning he was 25ish upon graduation.  Did he twiddle his little dick along the way and take 7 or 8 years to make it through college or did it take Daddy that long to finally suck off enough people to get his sorry ass into Princeton?  Either way it sounds like he is a little cunt rag that deserves what's coming to him.

Kid tried to make it look like suicide. If he'd taken the time to read ZH he would've known to use a nail gun and then toss him out the window. Would've automatically been declared suicide and the kid would be running the hedge fund now.

OK, the kid buys a gun and ammo, takes the gun and shoots the dad. The cops show up at the kids apartment and what do they find? The fucking gun box and ammo that matches the crime scene! The idiot should get jailed just for being a lazy fuckoff who thinks he should be entitled to a great life with money. Sounds like a complete dickhead, imo.

Daddy should have increased his allowance and saved the taxpayer. As far as convicting Bankers for fraud, I would be happy to pay tax for their internment although clawback of ill gotten gains should cover the cost.  So why are we reluctant to prosecute ?

I have a son that age and 3 younger children.  These were the peak entitlement crowd.  It has actually gotten slightly better as my youngest are in high school.  It was a battle with the oldest because the entire school system and progressive parents were promoting the it's more important to have fun in school than to actually learn anything.  Kids were promoted to the next grade without learning anything because it was too traumatic to keep kids back.  The Peoples Republic of Massachusetts instituted the MCAS which is standardized testing because the kids weren't learning anything.  My kids would come home and say the teachers were griping about teaching for the test and it was limiting their education.  I would respond with well at least I know that you know enough to pass this test.
