As part of a multicultural society, respecting all differences, we should be allowed to choose our own new year end to settle bills. My initial vote is for the chinese new year, but I am also game for plutonian (pluto) new year.
kept it nice and simple this year, stuck to a budget. asked others to do the same. no credit cards to pay off for me. Even gave the niece and nephew a shiny silver eagle with their toys
I try to pay all my bills never. Especially those annoying medical bills where insurance covers some of the cost but the hospital, lab, radiologist, or doctor feels it's within their right to charge whatever they want so I get stuck with the overage.
Since I'm never told what the cost is before treatment, I don't believe I owe anything.
You're not alone on this. Who the hell would take their car to the mechanic because the engine is making a noise and not get an estimate before any work is done?
Speaking of bills. In November I quit paying my electric bill until I got a shutoff notice in late December. That notice makes me officially exempt from paying the Obamacare fine in April. I was gonna claim to be a muslim but didnt want the DHS watching my house.
I have a $6000 deductible and no copay, so its 6k out of pocket and then they cover 100%. Its kind of fucked, but at least I know what it will cost...a lot. Had three surgery procedures in 14. The first time in 61 years I came close to getting my monies worth, They make you think you got a real bargain when your bills are tens of thousands and you only pay 6k. What a deal!!
They won't fit in a coke machine so they have no idea what to do with them, and nothing pisses them off more than getting money as gifts that they are told they can't spend.
Its a consumer world...saving is for chumps and boring old men (I ain't no chump:)
I gave them out as graduation presents. There's a vague sense they're 'special' but few have any real understanding of the worth. Plain old zinc proof sets are fine for most gifts.
Face it. Real silver coins haven't been around for 60 years. Most kids have no idea of just how bad inflation has been and how much prices have gone up. They'd think you were delusional if you talked about nickle candy bars - they haven't seen them under a dollar in their lives.
Some dad. PBR, really? Marlboros, really? An IPA with American Spirits if you wanna get a mug with #1 Dad on it. If you want a shirt too then we are expecting a stripper. Hat? Two strippers. Oh ffs. You want a pin!? Those mountains better have snow on top.
haha ya that was their reaction too, but they are both under 4. The oldest one just asked 'whats this?' looked at it, then went to the toy. Her dad gets it, and was appreciative, i feel confident the kids will appreciate it one day. My 15 month old just likes looking at them because they are shiny, then he tries to eat it, which always cracks me up. (see, at least one person thinks you CAN eat gold and silver...)
I hope Dad had enough sense to take them before they were lost. I had the same experience in Austria this Christmas. Gave my 14 yr old nephew some silver eagles. He half heartedly thanked me, tossed them in a drawer and didn't come out of his bedroom except to eat and shit for 3 days. He lives in his own matrix world called playstation.
ya its a shame, 14 is old enough to know better, but there is the problem: the playstation. If my son wants one of those, he better gets fuckin job. I got no problem buying him nice things, don't mind spending money on a quality bike, golf clubs, maybe a good shotgun for sporting clays, anything he wants to do thats outdoors, and socializing with other kids, getting exercise. Under no circumstances will he end up looking like some obese vampire that never goes outside like half this countries youth nowadays
One good thing that came from the trip is that I saw I could bring phys back and forth on the airplane with no problem. 30 coins gold and silver through the metal detectors in 2 countries, they didn't even open the bags.
My grandmother used to give me all the Kennedys and Ikes that she swapped out of the cash register she ran at a 7-11 until 72 yoa. She told me to save them because they were silver and someday they would be worth a lot. I wish my folks had held me to it. What I wouldn't give to have those coins in my possession, more for sentiment than value, but over the years it WAS a lot of silver.
She also started my first (very small) savings account and explained compounded interest (as well as a high school educated depression child could). Good she died before ever having to see an APY of 0.015%. It's funny that my father used to rag on my maternal grandmother as being the village idiot when she taught me more about preparing for adult life than he ever did. As such, I'll retire before him...but probably end up supporting him anyway.
Used cash or Debit card. Zero use of credit card. Even with the "1% Cashback" enticement from that accomplished colored thespian (SLJ), asking me what's in my wallet.
To answer your question, SLJ, "Say WHAT one more time, Mofu!"... "Cash and a Debit Card be in my wallet, muthaf*cker!" Besides my ID and a hardcopy of Vital Contacts (Family, lawyer).
NEVER, ever, will I hae a debit card. The protections if your info gets stolen suck on debit cards vs. credit cards. Clearing fraudulent charges off your credit card is a breeze, getting your bank to return money to your checking account, not so much. I have an ATM card, I get cash out, and spend it. That said, I do use one of those cash back cards all the time, pay it off with my mobile app on the way home from th store, and enjoy the bank's money. They are raping us raw, why not get a little back. Every two weeks when I get paid, I spend about 300 on groceries and 50 on gas, and get 2%, and 3 % back. The banks are betting I will get sucked into the cash back thing and overspend, since the interest rates on those cards are sky high, but not me
meh, helped me out quite a bit. I drove round trip to atlanta and back in my Z71 tahoe for about 165, filled up twice for less than 2/gallon. Usually this same trip cost me close to 300. It helped, but not enough to make me go blow the money i 'saved' on gas like a retard.
Xmas is fake.... it is just the corporations trying to get morons to buy stuff that will be chucked in the bin
thank you. xmas is fake. we stopped participating in the phony gift-giving and it's so much nicer...less hassle, less stress, more fun, more relaxing holiday...the hardest part is setting everyone else's expectations...but after a couple of years, they get the idea...we don't want any more crap in our house and they should spend their money on themselves and each other. our kids take care of their kids, which is as it should be.
we gave our grandkids each a $20 bill with a card that said, "we love you." my sister said, "that's not enough. you should give them at least $50." i disagree. it's time to reset expectations and get off the consumer band wagon.
"I drew pictures of Jon Corzine for all my family members. It was a hit!"
Did it have have numbers on it for the range or come with darts?
I am sure Jon sent out photos of himself to all of the former MF global customers thanking them for their donations and contributions that he will put to good use. Perhaps even do a little "God's work" like his buddy!
House paid off. College costs covered for kids - even cutting back on 529 conributions since first was overfunded.
No real balance on credit cards.
Cars owned outright.
Have any damn tool I might ever need - and a basic store of materials. (should've stocked up on Cedar clapboard and copper piping 20 years back. Damn the cost of those things have gone up).
Live within your means. Worked multiple jobs for years. Held off on kids - but saved for school from the day we married (even while paying off OUR loans). Didn't go away on vacations for years. Bought at the low in the housing market and put our own labor into the place instead of paying others. Didn't have enough to have anything to lose in the stock market so.....Except for that one boat sinking, things have gone well of late.
You still need some luck though - a good job and decent employer, no unexpected crises. Unless of course you're born into the ruling aristocracy.
What an uncalled for shity thing to say. We also decided not to spend money on high priced vacations and such so that we today can have just a bit of financial self determination. I can't live on the memories of baubles and Princess Cruise 'memories.'
I agree that using a cc. creates fiat out of thin air, but by paying it off everymonth, it extinguishes that newly created Fiat and gives me 2% as a gift.
Also as someone above has said using credit cards are much safer than using your atm.
As part of a multicultural society, respecting all differences, we should be allowed to choose our own new year end to settle bills. My initial vote is for the chinese new year, but I am also game for plutonian (pluto) new year.

We have a printing machine, the reserve currency, and all of our inflation gets exported.
Perpetual debt is just a tool to keep the prolitariate occupied. It's the government's greatest weapon.
It's not a problem. Any talk about being broke is political show boating.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VI6tBwVjyOY
Can we talk of moral bankruptcy then? I wouldn't want to show boat....never had a boat, what's that about?
"never had a boat, what's that about?"
A boat is a hole in the water in which you throw money.
If you want to simulate the experience, stand in the shower in a suit and flush $100 bills down the toilet one at a time.
The boat I never had took my money straight to the bottom. It was tragic.
Not to worry. The Fed's got my back.......right?
Only if your last name is Dimon or Blankfein
I try to pay all my bills never. Especially those annoying medical bills where insurance covers some of the cost but the hospital, lab, radiologist, or doctor feels it's within their right to charge whatever they want so I get stuck with the overage.
Since I'm never told what the cost is before treatment, I don't believe I owe anything.
Am I in the minority on this?
You're not alone on this. Who the hell would take their car to the mechanic because the engine is making a noise and not get an estimate before any work is done?
Health care is almost as big a racket as banking.
Speaking of bills. In November I quit paying my electric bill until I got a shutoff notice in late December. That notice makes me officially exempt from paying the Obamacare fine in April. I was gonna claim to be a muslim but didnt want the DHS watching my house.
There is no market if there is no price.
I have a $6000 deductible and no copay, so its 6k out of pocket and then they cover 100%. Its kind of fucked, but at least I know what it will cost...a lot. Had three surgery procedures in 14. What about your premium and now I know who I paid for last year. Give m your aadress and I snd you a bill lol
well, 6k out of pocket and another 5k in premiums. I think they call it "winning"
We cost-shifted some folks . . .
I sometimes write in crayon at the bottom of the bill "no leer americano".
I like that. I think I have a few Crayolas in a drawer somewhere.
Gave my nieces some silver eagles for Christmas and they left them laying right where they took them out of the packages.
My dad thought it was funny that those coins just sat on the floor untouched for three days.
They won't fit in a coke machine so they have no idea what to do with them, and nothing pisses them off more than getting money as gifts that they are told they can't spend.
Its a consumer world...saving is for chumps and boring old men (I ain't no chump:)
That occurred to me, so this year the kid got a PCGS graded proof.
I gave them out as graduation presents. There's a vague sense they're 'special' but few have any real understanding of the worth. Plain old zinc proof sets are fine for most gifts.

...aaaand they're gone.
Splurged this year and got the kids a case of PBR and a carton of Marlboros. #BestDadEver
....funniest post all week. Hatz off to you.
Some dad. PBR, really? Marlboros, really? An IPA with American Spirits if you wanna get a mug with #1 Dad on it. If you want a shirt too then we are expecting a stripper. Hat? Two strippers. Oh ffs. You want a pin!? Those mountains better have snow on top.
Craft beer and pipe tobacco.

gave my granddaughter a 1 oz silver Liberty for birthday. she washed it in soap 3 times that night to get the fingerprints off.

Sorry, used cash for "presents" (gold, silver, lead...ok and a few toys)
Was the lead in the toys?
They spent to please Granny Yellin.
Why were those people carrying a bag full of bills to the financial cliff in the first place?
Gas savings will pay those bills! HA

All paid off, cash back into the stash, except for one of Mrs.N's, a Ponte Vedra Spa gift which comes in the next cycle.
Yeah, she puts up with me so she gets extra special treatment, whatever ;-)
Christmas billz?
I got none. No one got anything from me.
Scrooooooge I am.
I drew pictures of Jon Corzine for all my family members. It was a hit!

Is Jon Corzine going to run again?
I guess for President ?
Only a problem if you spent anything.

And when you're laying on your deathbed, you can say, I "didn't go away on vacation for years."
I'm sure that will be a great memory for you and your loved ones...
Nope. I'm planning my vaca now. Gonna be a hoot.
I spend my money on my terms, not for some bullshit made up "holiday" for retailers.
What an uncalled for shity thing to say. We also decided not to spend money on high priced vacations and such so that we today can have just a bit of financial self determination. I can't live on the memories of baubles and Princess Cruise 'memories.'
I agree with you. I had all my best vacations and holidays in the bedroom - zero expenses.
Shitty? Why? Because it's true?
You gonna take that bank account to heaven with you?
Me? I'll enjoy life without being paranoid about money.
Christmas bills? I didn't get half of my usual Christmas Cards.
my Sister sent me an Xmas card made in china!
Make no mistake about it! the zionists will make all the money and the peasants will pay!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RETURN TO SENDER.
In case you didn't know this already... Using your Credit Card helps keep the FBR (Fractional Reserve Banking) Ponzie going.
Which is why banks offer Cash Back benefits to you, as a sign of their appreciation of helping to keep the Banking & Debt Merry-go-Round going.
Dig it. No Xmas debt for us three years running.
I agree that using a cc. creates fiat out of thin air, but by paying it off everymonth, it extinguishes that newly created Fiat and gives me 2% as a gift.
Also as someone above has said using credit cards are much safer than using your atm.
From the kids I got a hat, scarves, & gloves.
From the Wife, a little Christmas nookie.
Everything was a couple sizes too big.
"Broke Blvd"...
Indeed......
My girlfriend an I bought each other new pillows for the bed this xmas, and that's all, paid with cash, and we sleep so well.
