The War On Toddler Terrorists: Britain Forces Nursery School Teachers To Identify "Extremist" Kids

It’s 8pm in Cambodia and time to find something to eat, but before I do, something caught my attention that I just have to share. It has to do with Great Britain’s continued insanity when it comes to it’s own version of the so-called “war on terror.” This topic will come as no surprise to regular readers, as I have previously highlighted the UK’s unique brand of Orwellianism on several occasions. Here are a couple of examples from late last year:

In case you aren’t aware, there is something called the Counter-Terrorism and Security Bill 2014-15, currently moving through the UK Parliament. The Bill completed its committee stage in the House of Commons in mid-December, and will enter its report stage and third reading on January 6th and 7th. Accompanying this bill, which is controversial in its own right, is a 39-page consultation document that directs nursery school staff and registered childminders to “report toddlers at risk of becoming terrorists.” Think this is a joke? Think again. From the UK Telegraph:
Nursery school staff and registered childminders must report toddlers at risk of becoming terrorists, under counter-terrorism measures proposed by the Government.
The directive is contained in a 39-page consultation document issued by the Home Office in a bid to bolster its Prevent anti-terrorism plan.
The document accompanies the Counter-Terrorism and Security Bill, currently before parliament. It identifies nurseries and early years childcare providers, along with schools and universities, as having a duty “to prevent people being drawn into terrorism”.
The consultation paper adds: “Senior management and governors should make sure that staff have training that gives them the knowledge and confidence to identify children at risk of being drawn into terrorism and challenge extremist ideas which can be used to legitimize terrorism and are shared by terrorist groups.
“They should know where and how to refer children and young people for further help.”
But concern was raised over the practicalities of making it a legal requirement for staff to inform on toddlers.
“The Government should focus on projects to support vulnerable young people – instead they’re playing straight into terrorists’ hands by rushing through a Bill that undermines our democratic principles and turns us into a nation of suspects.”
He added: “It is important that children are taught fundamental British values in an age-appropriate way. For children in the early years, this will be about learning right from wrong and in practitioners challenging negative attitudes and stereotypes.
Who knows what sort of material these extremists might be perusing.

I went to elementary school with a girl who was born at Guantanamo. Haven't seen her in 48 years, but if she is still around I would love to hear what she thinks of her birthplace now being a prison.
TT, as far as the potassium permanganate, I think it was in the chemistry set I had of the same vintage. I used to take my model rockets to school to launch. Only two of three engines on the three feet tall scale model Saturn IV rocket ignited and it angled right at the hoops coach. Around half the kids at that school had parents who worked for either NASA or Redstone. Administration told him it was a good thing he could move fast.
They use it in water conditioners in some areas. Some years back I lived on an acreage that had bad groundwater. The system in the basement required potassium permanganate to treat the water.
It ran out of the stuff once and I swear, you could see asubstantial lick of flame over the water when held to a lit match. Thank God I never drank the stuff but I sure took lots of showers in it.

Same here. Grew up in a very poor neighborhood. All we did was burn fires all day long and throw things into into them to see them go boom. Aerosol cans, asbestos roof tiles, all kinds of junk. Sometimes we were lucky to collect discarded calcium carbide thrown out by the local welders. We made our own gas furnace and melted metals. It was hot enough to burn (not melt, but actually burn) aluminum! We extracted lead cathodes out of car batteries, melted them down and made things in molds made out of sand and clay. By the are of 8 I was practically a blacksmith, a chemist and an electrical engineer. All of our parents held industrial jobs and taught us things, and we shared the knowledge with eachother when playing. My farther was an engineer. Someone else had a construction worker dad. Someone's mother worked at a textile factory. All working class families.
We hung around mechanical shops, construction sites. Whenever one kid would go to visit a parent at work, we'd all tag along. By age 10 I knew how to mix cement, lay bricks, weld, service motorcycles, bulldozers - things I wasn't even tall enough to reach without a chair. Rockets? Screw 4th of July cherry bombs - we made and launched our own shit! PVC potato canons or plastic bottle rockers kids build these days are for pussies! We made human sized things that probably showed up on radars when flying. Concrete launchpads, steel guide rails, remote electronic igniters. We built things like we were NASA. A trip to a local army base where many local parents worked was an absolute treat. We ran obstacle courses just for fun, or watched adults do adult things. We scouted the junk yard where they sent decommissioned machinery. The memories of it all - just wow! We were allowed to do almost anything we wanted. That was long ago. There was no safety paranoia. I cut, burned and zapped myself countless times, but it only helped me learn what to do in order to avoid getting cut, burned and zapped. None of the kids I hung around suffered any serious injuries, even though things we did would give a modern city-dweller a heart attack. Our scratches and bruises - we walked them off. The only time I went to the hospital was when I tripped over myself and hit a knee. Of all the kids I knew only one person died, and it happened not when he was playing with us, but when he went on a boat trip with his alcoholic parents. All 3 of them drowned. Most days I think he was actually safer hanging out with us than staying home. He was the saddest person I ever knew. Poor kid.

I also enjoyed your post, Julia. A few things came up for me while reading your story. You were raised in a time and place with personal freedom and responsibility. If you screwed up, it was your fault and you paid the price. Your folks probably gave you a spanking as needed when you were a toddler. You were also raised in a time and place with classic Christian values, this allowed you to be free to roam the world because you had a moral structure.
Harbanger, I'll extend the realm of inclusion one level up the heirarchy and say the world had classic 'human' values. Christian or otherwise, people knew how to raise kids and let them run free. Pretty much every child until the 1980s had a good measure of freedom to explore as they pleased. In many places outside the US, the 'good' culture lasted all the way till the Internet and eventually, cell phones.
In the West we take things for granted like the basis of our very foundation and now believe people are inherently born with some sort of natural goodness. It's a long dialogue which I don't want to get into, but let me tell you something, humanity is born naturally selfish and clueless, it's a been a long trial of hit and miss since the beginning of human consciousness. Fuck modern relativism, that's at the root of our downfall.
I never said anything about an inherent goodness of humanity - there is none. There is a 'good' culture which lets children explore and be kids, something we've had with limited interruptions for a long time, and a 'bad' culture, which is what we have today, that locks them up entirely.
Whatever -isms you want to throw at it, the exploratory nature and necessary satiation of exploration in human children is gone and FUBAR.
What we have today is ZERO culture. We have modern ralativism, some self imagined concoction of, "as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else, and all parties agree, then it's ok." Well it's not OK, that's actually a twisted version of a Christian belief of loving your neighbor as yourself. Nothing comes from nothing. A culture, a people, cannot survive moral relativism.

I've had the pleasure of raising others children for a few years and was amazed at what they could learn. It really is about love. There is no end to what children can learn. They kept learning what I taught, so I kept dishing out advanced concepts, no timeline involved, all that mattered is they learned. When's the last time you met a 5 year old that understood and worked out algebra and trigonometry problems with the ease of solving a simple puzzle.
Humans have an amazing ability to work things out rationally, if that is what they are taught at an early age. Currently the overarching lesson of gummint indoctrination day-camps, is the fallacy that might-makes-right.

As someone who lives in Israel/Palestine, I'm acutely aware of the psychotic police-state measures we have in place here to help keep the lid on the backlash against constant colonial aggression. Only solution to the problem of islamic cult worship & terrorism is a global policy to eradicate the cult by eradicating all of it worshipers and all traces of it's existence, the same way that an insect-borne disease would be eradicated.
The most cost-effective way to accomplish this policy would be to use free-market and entrepreneur mechanisms:
1. Hunt down and eradicate all islamic cult worshipers in countries where they are still minorities, eg USA, Canada, Australia, Europe, etc.
2. Designate islamic cult worshiping countries, eg all across northern Africa, Middle East, SW Asia, as open for resettlement and offer bounties for heads collected in those countries. The bounty hunters get to keep all the land and assets in those countries, which would be repopulated with non-islamic cult worshipers.
3. Bounty hunters are permitted to keep the females for whatever use they want.
These simple but effective policy measures would result in MILLIONS of bounty hunters swarming on the islamic cult worshipers and they would be eradicated very quickly.

As a british reader I read the original article in the Telegraph, titled "Anti-terror plan to spy on toddlers is 'heavy-handed' and the tone was critical of the measure, half the article being a criticism, and it will be very unlikely to get through the democratic system and be confirmed as a law.
