Death & Taxes: A Visual Guide To Where Your Tax Dollars Go

Tyler Durden's picture

Death and taxes are both inevitable, but at least the experience of death does not repeat itself every year...

This infographic shows the Discretionary Budget of the United States for 2015, and omits mandatory spending for programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. In other words, it shows where the government’s priorities are with the money that it chooses to spend.

While fiscal 2015 has been already underway for awhile and the budgets for some departments may have been amended, the biggest benefit that this visualization brings is context. About 54% (including the entire left side) of the discretionary budget is military or national security related.

Seeing everything at once explains why some ultra rich Americans find ways to avoid paying the taxman.

Garbage graphic.  Defense looks like it is the whole budget when it is $0.6 trillion of a $4 Trillion dollar budget.

Not so clearly. The largest top title says "Federal Budget"...

Yet there's no Social Security
No Medicare
No Obamacare...
No Debt repayment...

It's a deceptive chart, to say the least.

Social Security, Medicare, and the DoD.

All of these "conservatives" continually advocate small government but do NOTHING to curtail those Big 3.  Ironically, they continually vote for their expansion!

Instead they whine about Shrimp on Treadmills, National Park budgets, EBT, and a bunch of other distractions that aren't even crumbs on this pie chart.

Too funny.

Using the so called "discretionary" budget is dishonest in the extreme.

There are no mandates or entitlements in the Constitutions, and the various Ponzi schemes are the worst of the lot.

Exactamundo.
The concept of "Discretionary Spending" is a bull shit figment of Congresses' Propaganda that Most The World has Bought Into wherein folks think that the expenditures cannot be cut.  There are no expenditures that cannot be cut.
Most people believe that shit so that the Congress of the One Big Fucking Party can go through the Kabuki Theater, make it a Big Ass Sound and Lights Production and remain forever spending infinite sums of money out of control in exchange for campaign contributions, allotments, buddies, family, etc.  Indeed, the Graft and Corruption Continuation Myth Budget.

Fuck, they'll go along with anything as long as it gets the bottle of Lucas Replacement Wiring Harness Smoke for their neighbor's '66 MGB which of course is a mandatory National Security expense.

Like calling Handouts, "Entitlements"

Well our personal "discretionary budget" is currenty being spent in Mexico. We are US citizens, and we wish nobody ill - but our money goes about 3X further. But at the moment we are getting killed on the dollars we converted to pesos... but everthing is cyclical. I figure it will turn around August timeframe. Feliz Ano.

Edit : (Not in real-estate business) Great time to buy something in Mexico while the peso is so low.

Taxes are literally the weight of the state. "This fee taxes my business."

Taxes are burdens. The burden of proof is on the state. Stop surrendering. At least be in control of the scale on which your burden is weighed. That's what corporations do.

You are a corporation. XXX-XX-XXXX, a cog of the great clock that reminds a rich guy to empty a giant sluice of shitwater else it might flood his lawn.

The picture of the toilet is the F-35 program that cost $3.8 billion this year alone.

There are some happy fat cats building new McMansions in Falls Church City, Virginia, in exchange for a boondoggle jet that doesn't work.

Isn't the defense industry great?

Meanwhile on Zero Hedge, minimum wage went up 15 cents an hour last week, and that's not fair to the "market" (whatever a market even means any more with a command economy like this one).

Fat cats make millions for defense scams, and we are suppose to get mad at fast food employees wanting to make enough of a paycheck to pay their rent on their crappy ghetto apartments that keep going up every lease.

The biggest voter group in this country are the Boomers, and they collect Social Security and Medicare.  Of course the Xers and Millenials paying into this insolvent failed system don't need to see that.

The boomers decry government waste when *gasp* a black woman collects $250 a month in EBT, yet the same old folks collect $900 a month social security ON TOP of their retirement plan, ON TOP of the Medicare that W. and his cronies vastly expanded.

They are so hypocritical its comical.

When they get government goodies, its "fixed income" and "they deserve it" and "they paid into it", yet if someone else gets a fraction of the amount, it's "waste".  Then the have the audicity to claim that the younger generations have an "entitlement attitude" meanwhile they are the ones collecting the entitlements.

----Of course the Xers and Millennials paying into this insolvent failed system don't need to see that---

The X'ers and millineals don't have the jobs or the income to pay for boomers retirement, medicare. Boomers have paid on average far more than the younger generations ever will simply because the jobs were here and paid well.

The money payed in by the boomers has been wasted on wars and welfare going to the Xers and Millennials. The gov is using printed up money these days to cover what they need.

Boomers had about as much say in this as the younger generations. Overwhelmingly we were against the Free Trade Treaties but gov did it anyway. Many of us lost our jobs and homes due to the off shoring. Many of the younger gens don't have jobs because of the In Sourcing H1B visa programs.

This inter generational conflict is bullshit. Blame the right party... corporations and their enabler,,, Government. No one wanted this shit except the corporations and government.

What can be done? No Idea but I can guarantee you from 50 years of experience, voting will not change a thing.

Gen X & Millenials don't have jobs because the labor market in the U.S. is almost as highly regulated as it was in the Soviet Union. Some employers are now literally paying as much in benefits as they are in salary to their most productive employees. That's on top of safety & legal regulations. And that is on top of the overwhelming burden of tort self-defense that companies must invest in whenever the next victim-minded-faggot decides to sue over a "hostile work environment"

There is a generational conflict. It exists because the boomers & their parents violated the advice of George Washington, who said, "No generation has the right to spend more than can be paid back within it's lifetime."

And this is on book

Can anyone even imagine the amounts involved in off-book black projects and budgets around the world that go to the power-hungry, greedy, psychopaths and murderers running the planet?

Or what that money could do for good vs. its current evil purposes?

I'm pretty sure the Quadrillion or so alleged total global derivatives would look like pocket change

The chart is misleading in that it only counts Federal Spending. If the tax money the Federal government forces States to spend on education and social services was figured in their circles would be larger than the defense budget circle.

I'm sorry... I just don't believe the amount ordinary citizens pay in taxes comes anywhere near to covering the yearly, monthly, or even weekly minimum payment due on Uncle Sam's debt, unfunded liabilities, and ongoing expenditures etc.

Nice picture though.

All nonsense

Every penny collected in taxes goes to pay the fraudulent private issuers of currency (for neophytes look up the Federal Reserve)

All other .gov expendentures are borrowed against the productivity of future generations

It is all a non consensual fraud, all of it
