France Update: Explosion Near Mosque, Policeman Shot In Paris, Countrywide Manhunt For Suspects

Tyler Durden's picture

Following yesterday's shocking murder of 12 people at the Charlie Hebdo headquarters, there has been much confusion and many rapidly moving parts in the hours that followed as authorities try to catch the two remaining killers, the 32 and 34-year old Kouachi brothers, after earlier the youngest of three French suspects turned himself in to police after, as BFM TV reported, he saw his in social media. The arrest was confirmed by an official at the Paris prosecutor's office said. Several people linked to two other suspected attackers were also in custody, the news agency AFP reported. The manhunt for the two remaining suspects goes on.

Indicative of the confusion and false information is the following report from NBC Nightly News which turned out to be fake:

How did the rumor spread to the very top of the food chain? From NBC: "Earlier Wednesday, two senior U.S. counterterrorism officials told NBC News that one of the suspects in the attack had been killed and that two others were in custody. However, the officials later said the information that was the basis of that account could not be confirmed."

What we do know about the two remaining suspects as the countrywide manhunt deepens is that they were said to have robbed a service station in the north of France. According to BBC, they stole food and petrol, firing shots as they struck at the roadside stop near Villers-Cotterets in the Aisne region, French media report.

According to the manager of the service station that was robbed on the RN2 road in Aisne at about 10:30 (09:30 GMT), the attackers fit the description of the two men, and were heavily armed with Kalashnikovs and rocket-propelled grenade launchers.

Earlier in the day, a policewoman was killed in a shootout in southern Paris on Thursday, triggering searches in the area as the manhunt widened, Reuters reports.

Police sources could not immediately confirm a link with the killings at Charlie Hebdo. Montrouge mayor Pierre Brossollette said the policewoman and a colleague went to the site to deal with a traffic accident. A car stopped and a man got out and shot at them before fleeing.

Witnesses said the shooter fled in a Renault Clio car. Police sources said he had been wearing a bullet-proof vest and had a handgun and assault rifle. However, one police officer at the scene told Reuters the man did not appear to fit the bill of the Charlie Hebdo shooters.

Live French television showed around a dozen police dressed in protective wear and helmets massed outside a building near the scene of the shoot-out. A second person was seriously injured in the attack in the suburb of Montrouge, after which the gunman fled.

Finally, a backlash in France may be forming when as Reuters also reported, an explosion rocked a kebab shop next to a mosque in Villefrance-sur-Saone in eastern France early on Thursday morning, a police source told Reuters.

"The window was blow out by an explosion in the night. The kebab shop was adjacent to a mosque," the source said, adding it appeared to be a criminal act. French media reports said there were no wounded.

While we follow the latest updates and ongoing developments in the most deadly militant attack on French soil in decades, we remind readers of what we observed was the common theme in the most popular Zero Hedge articles of 2014: "civil unrest." In that regard one can note that 2015 is so far nothing but a very bad, and unfortunately deadly, continuation of last year.

"A total of seven people had been arrested since the attack, he said. Police sources said they were mostly acquaintances of the two main suspects. One source said one of the brothers had been identified by his identity card, left in the getaway car."

I lived in France for a couple of years, and this will do a lot to help Marie Le Pen in the next elections...

Also I never remember seeing a gun shop in France. The laws were rather draconian concerning firearms. A friend who lived in the countryside had a hunting rifle, and he told me he had to have that registered with the local authorities, who could come see it was safely stored at any time they wanted.

Well, religion has always set itself the task of dividing people and turning them against each other, because it thrives on the "us vs them" mentality. Religion encourages superficial and unimportant differences between groups (such as what clothing to wear and what food & drink to consume) in order to attempt to drive a wedge between different communities. These efforts typically center around "believers" vs "non-believers".

Unsurprisingly, religion long has been a favored tool of the rich and powerful because of this. The 1% quickly understood that religion is an excellent tool to keep the poor & disenfranchised both distracted and divided amongst themselves. This is why I always invite people from the Middle-East and America to closely study what Karl Marx has written about the topic of religion. These two regions in the world seem to be most in need of his insights - by a large margin.

Hey I am so like totally into the paper cuts of "micro" political correctness as described in the article linked below - being a white female with half a brain living respectfully amongst Latinos in south america, I do know if this shit continues my day will unjustly come. Simply cause I look white & female - No One Outside The Big Club can win forever in this manufactured PC farce with deadly consequences. It may have been beneficial at first but it has been twisted, like most things to destroy ordinary people while benefiting the Big Club. Watched it happening on 4 continents over 4 decades... "politically correct" reform still benefits the banksters not the average soul working for a living - just ask most of my black brethren how great their life is under Mugabe. Then look at who financed and armed Mugabe and exactly which tribes and races fought against him. F'k progressive, its for people who enjoy being a frog in warm water for many years fantizing they are in The Clubs spa... its a soup pot for cannibals.

Try reading this article without your eyes bleeding.

Here is a teaser:

The claim of microaggression is a justification for censorship and social control. To advocates, the slightest hint of insult becomes evidence of epidemic oppression in society. What you say, what you don't say, when you do not show up either to speak or stay silent ... all of these can be evidence of microaggression. That is, as long as the act or non-act is committed by a white male or by someone who disagrees with the PC theory of victimhood.

Oil and Water. Islam and Western Culture. They didn't mix during the Crusades and they still don't to this day. Borders, Language and Culture need to be preserved at all costs. The audacity of a group of people moving to ANOTHER country and demanding those people adhere to their customs, beliefs and religion is baffling. The only thing more baffling is self-loathing, white guilt ridden dipshits who seek to appease these people and cede their sovereignty and way of life in the name of multi-culturalism and political correctness. Fucking sick of dumb fucks who parrot the .gov, .media line on anything connected to "national security".  Look, "them" is your own fucking government.  It spies on you all day long.  You are it's designated enemy.  It killed 3,000 of your countrymen on 9/11, and successfully blamed a bunch of cavedwellers half the world away.  It murders women collecting firewood and people celebrating weddings with gay abandon, and in your name.  It keeps the world unstable and terrified as a designated policy.  It invades sovereign countries and murders hundreds of thousands on the basis of fictional, media-sold lies.  IT MURDERS CHILDREN, hundreds of thousands of them, with no shame.

Your enemy is your government.  Grow a fucking brain and see it.  9/11 was carried out to make you think muslims are your mortal enemy.  Are you really so easily manipulated?

Most of your/our government is made up of our local neighbours, as you well know only a few are in the upper criminal elite circle. Hence the problem, our neighbours are collaborators -most without any comprehension of the actual reality, they 'believe' in their role/job and enforce it generally in good faith -albeit seriously misguided good faith. How does one say wake-up when a large portion of your government is your neighbor? Its obvious why govt must become big govt... it sucks up the populace dependent on the system thereby complicit (often without informed intent- seriously few parents will actively work to make their grand kids lives hell, but few parents are fully informed most are dis-informed).

From time to time I speak to Muslem young men here in California who seem to exhibit genuine intensity regarding their faith...the sadly curious thing is that when you spend some tiime exploring the theological underpinnings of their convictions, they demonstrate a surprising lack of knowledge regarding the Qur'an, the Haddiths, Islamic history or even of Muhammed himself. Mostly, their religious essence seems to revolve around slogans, traditions, ritual and mindless emotion, but very little actual substance.

But how is that different from what I see in the vast majority of people of Western faiths?  I grew up Catholic, went to Catholic schools and got indoctrinated by the nuns, but really didn't learn much of anything about the religion until I went to college at a Jesuit university.  Those classes opened my eyes.  I became less and less of a religious person and more and more a spiritual one.  I stopped getting into discussions of "my God is better than your God" and just tried to figure out how I could be a better person.  Strangewalk, what you see in Muslim people in California, I see in pretty much everyone.  Religion is the gang they belong to and they want to make sure that no one else gets onto their turf.  They don't care about the underpinnings.  They just want to be able to wave the big foam "We're Number 1" finger.  And yes, it's very sad because the supposedly pious religious men and women they are following are mainly in it for the power and the money.

Faith, for many poor, has been an excellent source of hope in an unjust world that we live in!  The rich have nohing to do with it Eirik!  And people do not need an excuse to turn people against each other.  They would do so even if religious differences were not a factor.  They wouldfind something else to fight and kill over!!

You are quite correct but it wasn't always that way. The laws just kept getting tighter and tighter over the last few decades. They, effectively, disarmed the real French so the invaders can do their evil without resistance, ditto England and the rest of Europe. Even Switzerland over the last 20 years has tightened its gun laws, initially due to pressure brought by US due to Sarah Brady. Imagine.

I think it behooves each and every single one of us, AND OUR FAMILIES, to join the NRA.

Makes me think of the alleged perpetrator of the attack at the Jewish museum in Brussels :

"He was arrested in Marseille on Friday after arriving on an overnight coach from Brussels.A Kalachnikov automatic rifle with Islamist markings, a revolver and bullets  similar to those used in the shootings were found in his luggage during a routine drugs check by customs officers. They also found press cuttings on the museum murders and a film for a miniature camera in which he appears to admit the attack."

"Predictably, Islamofascism peddlers are already having a field day/week/month/year. For simpletons/trolls/hordes exhibiting an IQ worthy of sub-zoology, when in doubt, demonize Islam. It's so convenient to forget that untold millions from Pakistan's tribal areas to street markets across Iraq continue to feel pain devastating their hearts and lives as they are expendable victims of the jihadi mindset - or "Kalashnikov culture", as it is known in Pakistan - profiting the "West", directly or indirectly, for decades now. Think ritual droning of Pakistani, Yemeni, Syrian, Iraqi or Libyan civilians. Think Sadr City witnessing carnages over 10 times worse than Paris.

What French President Francois Hollande defined as "an act of exceptional barbarism" - and it is - does not apply when the "West", France in the front line, from King Sarko to General Hollande himself, weaponizes, trains and remote-controls assorted mercenaries/beheaders from Libya to Syria. Oh yeah; killing civilians in Tripoli or Aleppo is perfectly all right. But don't do that in Paris."

Second, Alistair Horne's book, A Savage War of Peace: Algeria 1954-1962.  Pay particular attention to General Paul Aussaresses.

@overmedicatdun

The French lost Dien Bien Phu because they were screwed by NATO (ie. the US).

In 1954 they had to specialize in jets while others in Europe had to specialize in bombers.

And when it came to fight Communism (the Viet Cong, massively helped by Soviet Union and China's troops) ... guess what... the US refused the NATO to get involved.

They had to fight the war without bombers, as in 1954 they had very few of these kind of planes.

And guess what... who had to fight the Vietnam war after the US sabotaged French effort  ?

Besides that, in 1954, when the French were finally defeated in Dien Bien Phu, they had 50,000 troops in all VietNam, and their biggest planes were Douglas A26 and C47’s, and Vought Corsairs.

When the US was defeated by the same enemy some twenty years later, they had 550,000 troops, B52’s, napalm, missiles, big helicopters, the works …

That's hyperbole.

The Muslim conquests up to the Siege of Vienna were not carried out by starved immigrants become half-assed terrorists. They were carried out by large, well-equipped armies supported by a civilization nearly as wealthy as the European. So, until the Muslim world's combined GDP gets close to that of the West, such that it could mount an actual military challenge, talk about an impending Muslim invasion comparable to what happened in the past is hyperbole.

Exhibit B: January 5th 2015 - Russia sanctions 'must be lifted now' - Hollande http://rt.com/news/219831-hollande-russia-lift-sanctions/

Hollande doesn't seem to be playing the Rothschild NWO political playbook.

French elections are in 2 months, where there was a chance Marine Le Pen's Far 'Right' Front National could come to power on a wave of Anti EU Nationalism, and Anti-Islam/muslim sentiment. Those odds just increased substantially IMO.

All this ugly disdain and nasty jokes come from the firm refusal of the French to join America in Irak, in 2003.

Since France refused to go to Iraq, American warmongers and neo-cons made French army look like cowards – as a punishment.

But History has proved the French were right, and that the WMD were only a dirty trick to serve as a pretext.

Nevertheless, the hate of American warmongers against France remains still there, well alive, even in ZH.

This stale hate still shows through "innocent good jokes" about the “surrender monkeys” and their white flags

As for the rest, the French can be proud of their Military History:

According to the British historian Niall Ferguson, since 387 BC, France has fought 168 major wars against such badasses as the Roman Empire, the British Army and the Turkish forces. Their track record isn't too shabby, either: They've won 109, lost 49 and drawn 10 times.

This makes France the most successful military power in European history - in terms of number of fought and won …

The French have succeeded to conquer and guard the largest country in Europe.

@Gene8696

Both my dear ...

* Apart from the puppet government based in Vichy, there was a free government based in London under the authority of General De Gaulle.

* In all occupied countries by the Nazis, some citizens, driven by nationalism, ethnic hatred, anti-communism, anti-Semitism, or opportunism knowingly engaged in collaboration. But the LVF (Legion Volontaire Francaise), the French volunteer army that the Germans tried to organize, was a gigantic flop: Only a division was supplied to the German army, whereas the Netherlands (with a 4 times less important population) supplied 2 divisions.

* In all occupied countries by the Nazis, the Jews have been quite completely exterminated during WW2. In occupied France, “only” (if we may say) 25% of the Jews have been deported. Most of the Jews succeeded to survive thanks to the active and passive resistance of a large part of the population. This explains why France is now, by far, the country in Europe with the largest Jewish community (more than 600 000).

* During the Italian campaign of 1943, 130,000 Free French soldiers fought on the Allied side (under General Juin)

* By the time of the Normandy invasion, Free French forces numbered approximately half a million regulars and more than 100,000 French Forces of the Interior (FFI).

The FFI in Normandy and the Île-de-France region surrounding Paris began to harass German forces intensively, cutting roads and railways, setting ambushes and fighting conventional battles alongside their allies. This caused the death, arrest, or deportation of 90,000 resistance fighters  -  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Resistance

General Eisenhower estimated the value of the Résistance to have been equal to ten to fifteen divisions at the time of the landings  -  http://voices.yahoo.com/the-french-resistance-world-war-ii-400073.html

* The Free French 2nd Armored Division, under General Philippe Leclerc, landed in Normandy, and, in the waning days of summer 1944, led the drive toward Paris, and later Strasbourg.

* 3500 French pilots served in the RAF  -  http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Air_Force

and others in Russia in Normandie-Niemen Squadron  -  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normandie-Niemen

* 6 Free French divisions (230 000 men) did contribute hugely to the Provence landing - under command of General De Lattre de Tassigny (Operation Dragoon). They held their ground in Alsace during the battle of the Bulge, disobeying Eisenhower’s orders to retreat.

* In 1945 the Allied Forces on the west front consisted in:  US: 45 divisions  -  UK: 12 divisions  -  France: 9 divisions  -  Poland: 1 division.  In total, not a lot compared with the Soviet forces on the east side, the main winners of WWII.

It has now been officially revealed (to the surprise of virtually no one) that at least two of the suspects in the Charlie Hebdo shootings are French-born individuals who were recruited for and trained in Syria in order to fight against the secular government of Bashar al-Assad.

French police revealed today that the three suspects, Said Kouachi, 34, and Cherif Kouachi, 32, and Hamyd Mourad, 18, were the target of a massive manhunt. Said and Cherif are both French nationals while Hamyd’s nationality is not known at this time.

Cherif Kouachi was no stranger to French law enforcement. He was sentenced to three years imprisonment with 18 months suspended for terrorism charges in 2008 when was convicted of “criminal association with a terrorist enterprise.”

Apparently, the group to which Cherif was affiliated, known as the 19th Arrondissement Network (named for the neighborhood it was based out of), was involved in recruiting French Muslims to fight for al-Qaeda in Iraq. As is typical in Western-backed terrorist operations, the group preyed on poor, disenchanted, struggling, and working-class young men.

After procuring the necessary manpower, the group would then organize for weapons training and provide the necessary travel arrangements.

Although convicted in 2008, police had arrested Charif in 2005, just days before he planned to travel to Syria.

Charif fits the profile of a target for terrorist recruits. He was Muslim, had left school, and was working a dead-end job as a pizza delivery man. He was decidedly lower working class.

The narrative now being constructed is that a gullible young man then fell under the spell of charismatic “street preacher” known as Farid Benyettou, who trolled the East Side of Paris. It is implied that Beneyettou, who was also convicted on terrorism charges, played a role in setting up Charif with the terrorist organization he eventually joined and his subsequent travels to Syria to slaughter innocent people ultimately for the benefit of the geopolitical goals of NATO, France, and the United States.

It should be noted that, during the course of the trial, Beneyettou was responsible for recruitment only. Out of the entire membership of his network, he was the only one not slated to travel to Iraq.

Also noteworthy is the fact that, in 2005, it was revealed that some members of the 19th Arrondissement Network had affiliations with the ad-Da’wa mosque,[1] one of the largest mosques in Paris.

Of course, if the attackers were indeed members of one of the myriad terrorist groups documented to be under the direction and control of Western powers, France itself is to be implicated in the cause and execution of the attacks. As Tony Cartalucci of Land Destroyer Report writes in his own article, “France Armed Terrorists That Struck Paris,”

France, as part of a NATO-led coalition, has been arming, funding, aiding, and otherwise perpetuating Al Qaeda terrorists for years, beginning, on record in Libya with the overthrow of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and continuing until today with NATO's arming, harboring, and backing of Al Qaeda terrorists including the so-called "Islamic State" (ISIS) within and along Syria's borders

With the recent attack in Paris likely the work of the very terrorists France has been arming and backing across North Africa and the Middle East, the French government itself stands responsible, guilty of the continued material support of a terrorist organization that has now killed French citizens, including two police officers, not only on French soil, but within the French capital itself.

In his article “Timeline: Where’d Paris Shooters Get Their Weapons?” Cartalucci also provides a timeline of French assistance, aid, and arms provided to Islamic terrorists since 2011. He writes,

2011 - France supplying weapons to Libyan rebels, London Telegraph:

A French military spokesman, Colonel Thierry Burkhard, said it had provided "light arms such as assault rifles" for civilian communities to "protect themselves against Col Gaddafi".

But the decision to arm the rebels is a further move towards direct involvement in the land war on top of the air war against Col Muammar Gaddafi. The Nafusa rebels have come closest to breaking through to Tripoli itself of any of the front lines of the conflict, while three months of Nato bombing have failed to dislodge Col Gaddafi from power.

Le Figaro, the French newspaper which first reported the air drops, said the shipment included rifles, machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades, along with Milan anti-tank missiles.

2011 - Libyan rebel commander admits his fighters have al-Qaeda links, London Telegraph:

Abdel-Hakim al-Hasidi, the Libyan rebel leader, has said jihadists who fought against allied troops in Iraq are on the front lines of the battle against Muammar Gaddafi's regime.

2012 - France to push for arming Syria's opposition coalition, the BBC:
France's foreign minister has said he will discuss supplying arms to the Syrian opposition coalition with European partners.

The government plans to push for a relaxation of the EU arms embargo to Syria to enable "defensive arms" to reach opposition fighters.

2013 - Syria crisis: France and Britain move a step closer to arming rebels, the London Guardian:

France and Britain have moved a step closer to arming the opposition to the Assad regime in a radical move aimed at tipping the balance in the two-year civil war while also ignoring European policy on Syria.

The French president, François Hollande, went into an EU summit in Brussels with a dramatic appeal for Europe to join Paris and London in lifting a European arms embargo, but the sudden policy shift was certain to run into stiff German opposition.

2013 - Syrian rebels pledge loyalty to al-Qaeda, USA Today:

A Syrian rebel group's April pledge of allegiance to al-Qaeda's replacement for Osama bin Laden suggests that the terrorist group's influence is not waning and that it may take a greater role in the Western-backed fight to topple Syrian President Bashar Assad.

The pledge of allegiance by Syrian Jabhat al Nusra Front chief Abou Mohamad al-Joulani to al-Qaeda leader Sheik Ayman al-Zawahri was coupled with an announcement by the al-Qaeda affiliate in Iraq, the Islamic State of Iraq, that it would work with al Nusra as well.

2014 - France delivered arms to Syrian rebels, Hollande confirms, France 24:

President Francois Hollande said on Thursday that France had delivered weapons to rebels battling the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad “a few months ago.”

With all this in mind, the question then becomes whether or not these attacks are simply “blowback” – the famed but virtually always inaccurate whitewash term that is thrown about after any alleged terror attack that occurs in the Western world – or entirely controlled by the very Western governments, agencies, and corporations that then pretend to be the victims?

Given the fact that ISIS, al-Qaeda, and related organizations are entirely controlled by Western intelligence agencies, one must question the real reason that Charlie Hebdo was attacked and the true command-and-control structure that exists behind the attackers.
