The Charlie X Solution

Tim Knight from Slope of Hope's picture

Like other members of the sane world, I have been disturbed and distressed about the latest doings of the religion of peace, as Islamic nut-jobs terrorize the gentle citizens of Paris with murder and mayhem. As a writer myself, I feel strongly about the need for uncensored speech, and to see these members of what surely must be the universe's most psychologically-insecure religion slay satirists is deeply saddening.

And yet on Friday morning, the solution came to me in a shot. And, as with most good solutions, it comes from no less a place than Star Trek: The Original Series. Hear all now my idea:

The pilot episode of Star Trek was called Charlie X. Purists will argue that The Cage, with Captain Christopher Pike (and an oddly emotional early version of Spock) was the pilot, but, sorry, Kirk is the man, and they had to recycle the Pike episode into a two-parter later, so......shove it. It's Charlie X.

0110-charlie

Anyway.

Charlie has taken over the Enterprise, and near the end of the show, Kirk finally decides what to do about this teenage menace: he turns on every single system the ship has. Spock and McCoy, on Kirk's orders, flick on every switch the bridge has, causing much beeping, buzzing, and booping. Kirk correctly assumes that Charlie can't handle the massive swirl of activity, and faced with all this pressure, he is effectively incapacitated.

And that, my friends, is what we need to do about the demands from the Muslim world that no one dare print images of the Prophet. My suggestion? Everyone print the images. Every. Body.

What I'm suggesting is a worldwide, coordinated effort among every magazine, newspaper, tabloid, scandal sheet, high school newspaper, and blog on Earth. On a given day (or for a given week.........or a given year.........let's see how long it takes) completely saturate the world with the Prophet (peas be upon him). Cartoons. Line drawings. Illustrations. Photoshopped exposes. You name it.

These pictures don't need to be obscene or pornographic. From what I understand, even flattering images (such as, I dunno, Muhammad sitting on a golden throne with rainbows and unicorns in the background) are considered blasphemous. Let your imagination run wild.

The problem with the handful of brave departed souls at Charlie Hebdo is that they made themselves an easy target. No one else had the gonads to stand up against terrorist threats (and I suppose I can't blame them). And don't give me this schtick about not wanting to offend a group: nobody gives a flying crap about respecting the beliefs of these clowns. They just don't want to end up with a bullet through their brain. The political correctness is just a front for self-preservation.

So pull a Charlie X on these guys. Give them not one target, but tens of thousands. Show them that the world of free speech is not going to be cowed into submission. Hell, balance things out with a worldwide mockery of Jesus, Buddha, and Moses for all I care. I'm a lifelong Christian myself, and every media outlet on the planet could show Jesus hanging out in a gay bar tongue-kissing Andy Dick, and I couldn't care less. It doesn't affect my beliefs, and it certainly isn't going to compel me to hurt anyone. (I also have the added advantage of not being a latent homosexual, which, errr, seems to be a bit of an issue with some of these bearded chaps. But I digress).

The question, of course, is where leadership will come from. Who will stand up and set the date? Obama? Ha! Ha ha ha! Oh, that's rich. This is a man who's afraid of his own shadow; he's not about to take a stand (particularly a politically incorrect stand). It'll have to be someone else.

Will this ever happen? I suppose not. But I at least wanted to toss the idea out there, because I think an impossibly diffuse target would drive radical Islam to the point of madness, perhaps to the point where they can focus on more important topics, such as the bitterly-dividing point as to whether the Prophet shaved his armpits or not (and, no, I'm not making this up). Until then, let us keep the sacrifice of the brave staff at Charlie Hebdo in mind. They were, after all, the real martyrs.

"....So pull a Charlie X on these guys...."

Its would be easier to do the opposite. Every time an incident occurs - take out the "Imam" of any mosque the Jihadis may have attended.

The Imams would be a hell of a lot more careful about what they say and who their followers are

The pilot episode was ""Where No Man Has Gone Before". Charlie X was episode 8. The episodes had similar premises but the author should get his facts straight. If he can't get the basics straight how can we take the article seriously?

The irony is I have not seen "Star Trek" in years. I have not even seen the latest rebooted movie...can I assume you don't take the author seriously?

The issue is research not Star Trek...facts often get in the way of supporting one's position, but all I request is that the author gets his facts straight, then he can distort them as he pleases...

I now live in a region with majority Muslims. It is sometimes am shocking to see their blind faith. I have had many arguments with Musims. But they patiently try to make me understand. I do not see them as aggressive. They are just normal people.

The aggressive ones are those "working" with the Mosques and form groups. They call themselves various names such Al Jihad, Laskar Jihad etc etc. They drive expensive cars. They are well funded and put an aggressive front to anyone who dare question their actions or behaviour. And it is also clear that their funds are coming from overseas. They are offered land and new life if they are willing to fight for other similar organizations that are terrorizing Mulsims countries.

Yes. Thats is the fact. We recently arrested one poor family with children planning to travel to Syria. They were full of hope for a new life promised by that organization (ISIS)

There I think lies all the problems. Money.

King Richard travelled all the way to Middle East from Britain to fight Muslims. Why and how did someone managed to make so many people including King Richard to travle so far away from family to fight in Middle East for the benefit of some people who are against Muslims? It was supposed to be for Christ. really?

But wait, Muslims terrorist are now killiing Muslims and also Christians. And Israel is treating the wounded among those terrorist. Netenyahoo even came to the Hospital to meet with the ISIS terrorist. What the hell is going on?

America is refusing to discuss the matter of freezing of money transfers to Terrorist organizations. But America is very willing to freeze accounts of national leaders of various countries.

In all this chaos in the world,  how can we blame so easily anyone for anything? It is just chaos. Attempts to make sense about Religion or Race is nonsense. It is always about the money. Setup an independant organization with power to check on transactions and ban criminal transactions, and all wars and all terrorism will stop.

There is Al Shabbab, darn they are Islamic as well... What about Hezbola? Shoot, they are Muslims too. Give me a few years and I can come up with a Christian organization that uses terror, rape, slavery and religious cleansing as a weapon...

Yes it is;

'Behold a Pale Analogy'

The crusaders used to shout the words: 'It is the Will of God' in the same way that today's terrorists shout "Allah Akbar".

The First Crusade

June 7th – July 15th 1099 – Battle for Jerusalem

After spending three years marching from Europe to the Holy City, the crusaders had finally reached their intended destination in the summer of 1099.  It took forty days to conquer the city. “After a very great and cruel slaughter of Saracens, of whom 10,000 fell in that same place, they put to the sword great numbers of gentiles who were running about the quarters of the city, fleeing in all direction on account of their fear of death; they were stabbing women who had fled into palaces and dwellings; seizing infants by the soles of their feet from their mothers’ laps or their cradles and dashing them against the walls and breaking their necks; they were slaughtering some with weapons, or striking them down with stones; they were sparing absolutely no  gentile of any place or kind.” (Asbridge 317) Those Muslims who sought shelter on the roof of the al-Aqsa mosque were decapitated if they had not flung themselves to the ground first. (Moynahan 239) By July 17th, not a single Muslim was left alive within the city walls. Even the Jews who had gathered in their synagogue had been burned alive inside.  “The last survivors were forced to perform the worst tasks: to heave the bodies of their own relatives, to dump them in vacant, unmarked lots, and then to set them alight, before being themselves massacred or sold into slavery.” (Maalouf xiv)

Could it be we are experiencing a Tit for a Thousand Year Old Tat?

On the basis that the West is at least nominally Christian - and certainly in some cases, e.g. the US "In God We Trust" - I fail to see how Christians ever stopped during the conquests of the Americas, Africa, India, China ... and on and on to the conquest of the Ottoman (WW1) Muslims right up to the present wars against Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Libya ... the list is endless.

So Christians eventually stopped did they?  When?

BTW mainstream Muslim leaders like Hezbollah's Nasrullah have condemned ISIS, Takfiris, etc. ... wich are trained and supplied by US/NATO.

That's part of it but it has more to do with the exploitation of Middle Eastern people since the West's victory in WWI and the fall of the Ottoman Empire. Churchill gassed the Kurds in 1920 and it went downhill from there including of course a war against Iraq which incorporated Saddam's gassing the Kurds in its casus belli. Murderous hypocrisy thy name is government.

Of course, you're right.

But I celebrate the 'coincidental' and the mystical.

All the deaths in war are murders and are an abomination.  From Dresden, to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Paris a few days ago.

The only solution is the total extinction of the human race.

Their weasel excuses can not prevail anymore.

nope

Just thinking how many 3rd world children will never see their 10th birthdays.  Many of whom will die because the American government promoted revolts against their governments that are more aligned to Russia and the East.

The extinction of life on earth, in one stroke (if we're lucky), will prevent enough misery and suffering which, if laid end to end, would reach Pluto and back.  A dozen times.

There's part of the icky olde testament which has some poetry in it.

"To everything there is a season

And a time to every purpose under heaven"

And this

Again I looked and saw all the oppression  that was taking place under the sun:

I saw the tears of the oppressed—
    and they have no comforter;
power was on the side of their oppressors—
    and they have no comforter.
And I declared that the dead,
    who had already died,
are happier than the living,
    who are still alive.
But better than both
is the one who has never been born,
who has not seen the evil
that is done under the sun.

Perhaps this is the Nihilism you refer to, comrade.

"the doctrine of an extreme Russian revolutionary party circa 1900, which found nothing to approve of in the established social order."

Tell me what you approve of in today's established social order.

I had to invent my own god or creator to survive.  And believe me  that topic is not a great ice breaker at singles bars.

If you are a poet, Billy, don't you find Ecclesiastes to be right up your alley?  It's definitely mine.

This is the stupidest, most asinine, uninformed, offensive, and ludicrous article in the history of Zero Hedge.  And that is saying something.  My advice is, number one, stop watching Star Trek and grow the fuck up.  Two, understand that this attack had little or nothing to do with offended Muslims (e.g., read this: http://www.paulcraigroberts.org/2015/01/08/charlie-hebdo-tsarnaevs-trial...).  Three, learn to have a little bit of respect for people's beliefs - you don't need to agree with them - but how are you different from what you condemn?  What you are condoning here is hate speech.
