The Cost Of Obama's "Free" Community College Plan To Taxpayers? $60 Billion
Yesterday, to much shock and dismay, Obama revealed his latest "noble" grand vision: provide a free community college education to millions of folks. Apparently now, far too late, even the community organizer-in-chief realized that with $1.2 trillion in student loans, almost double the total outstanding credit card debt, which as the TBAC warned will rise to a mindblowing $3.3 trillion in one decade all else equal...
... and of which already one third will likely end up unrepad..
... there is simply no way the US economy can grow and absent a major overhaul of the educational system, the Millennials will never be able to take their rightful place as the dynamo of US economic growth.
What is Obama's solution? Another free lunch.
Of course, one look at Venezuela should suffice to see how the myth of free lunches ends every single time:

Socialist unicorns and Marxist rainbows aside, what will Obama's "free" plan cost taxpayers? The answer: $60 billion over 10 years, according to a White House official.
The details from the latest White House pool report:
Eric Schultz, the deputy press secretary, said that President Obama would be joined in Knoxville by Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden to announce his proposal to make two years of community college free for all responsible students no matter their age.
Among other things, here is what he said about the cost of the program:
How would you pay for this program:
Will release details in the budget
Said there was "intense" interest in the idea. More than 5.7 million people viewed the Facebook video by 10 am Friday, he said. 21.1 million people "have been reached" by the Facebook post. He said it was the most successful Facebook post.
Said the college program will cost "roughly $60 billion over 10 years."
"That is a significant investment, but it's one the president believes is worthwhile because we need to make sure that America's young people are getting the skills they need to succeed in the 21st century economy."
He said the $60 billion represents the federal share of the program.
And if "$60 billion" is what the president considers free, we dread to think how much it would cost taxpayers if Obama decided to actually to some aggressive wealth redistributing for a change...

Remember when all the OWS people were chanting for "free" education? Well, their government overlords delivered. Now they will get a useless "education" which will propbably ending up costing them (and taxpayers) more. If you rely on government, prepare to be dissapointed.
this discriminates against those with current student loans.....so.........get ready for student loan forgiveness (right before November 2016)
best,
hillary
$60 billion? Less than one month's QE.
Yawn. Don't sweat the small stuff.
"$60 billion? Less than one month's QE. Yawn. Don't sweat the small stuff."
The cost bothers me (I'm a taxpayer yuppie), but what REALLY bothers me is the bribery and conditioning of young minds/voters.
Remember kids, only through government can you achieve your dreams.
60 billion is way too low, they didn't include the cost to taxpayers of the welfare that these people will be on after they complete the 2 years, or don't complete.
Yep, that number is merely a placeholder and they'll do their damnedest to keep from stating anything like a real, honest number.
More stuff for the free-shit army.
Lol, Liesman is such a fuckin dick. Seriously, he cannot have a degree.
Small price for well educated burger flippers.
I wonder if this number reflects the tuition prices doubling once they realize they get subsidized to do so.
That's the noblest approach taken by British Crown and the Holy See to elevate ordinary Americans to a noble brute status (their magnanimity and piety is priceless).
Free education works in lots of countries, and I mean countries which are doing very well. You have to fail students who are no good though, that would be tough part in the US. 60 billion is pocket change sadly.
I'm more against student loans (government backstops loans from banks with special provisions preventing bankruptcy).
In fiscal year 2015, military spending is projected to be $555 billion! That's one year! $60 billion for 10 years of free education sounds like a higher priority to me, just take it from the military. They won't even miss it.
The community college teacher broad down the street says she's all for this 2-year free thingy. She said, "Job security" for her.
So true. Now the community colleges will quintuple tuition, double salaries, and double the number of campuses. When all is said and done the only beneficiaries of this will be the CC administrators.
It will never happen and is just another political stunt for the Dems to make the GOP look bad... This BS will never pass Congress and Barry knows it... He is setting them up to look bad going into the 2016 when they deny this new entitlement program... The US already has a glut of college graduates that cannot find jobs, while at the same time there is a shortage of blue collar workers... More Demotard political bullshit from the team of MOAR FREE SHIT...
"It will never happen and is just another political stunt for the Dems to make the GOP look bad."
Like the Dems actually need to do anything to make the GOP look bad? The GOP do a good job all by themselves. This is just another Dem payoff to Big Ed.
"The US already has a glut of college graduates that [sic] cannot find jobs ..."
When I interview US grads, they want to run the show and do my marketing plan from day one ... remember the good old days when recent grads would type and get coffee while they actually learned the things they would ultimately be asked to run? In any event, a post-grad degree today is equivalent to what a CC degree used to be, and a CC degree is the equivalent to what used to be a pass from middle school ... so what the heck?!?
Reminds me of the hiring boom during the dot.com bubble days... Candidates right out of college with IT degrees were demanding 6-digit salaries and signing bonus' much like athletes, while not being able to find their ass with both hands from a technical standpoint... We used to call them "paper tigers"... They had the degree and absolutely no freaking experience...
roll over...debts 4ever.
That is eggsactly what it is!
Actually this wont cost the taxpayers a dime b/c they'll just print moar, add it to the debt and move us that much closer to bankruptcy and hyperinflation. This is classic 3rd world stuff.
At some point the bill comes due on all the debt being racked up... When the worm turns and the US defaults on it's debt, watch the USD to be devalued by 50% - 70% and the price of imported goods will soar... Considering the US makes fuck-all anymore, what to you think the EBT crowd shopping at Walmart will due when the cost of cheap Chinese shit triples?
PTI,
A mere drop in the bucket, compared to the 303 trillion dollar wall st giveaway...and don't forget about the cost of Volcker rule delay...better community colleges than those ITT Tech, Art Institute vultures...and really at this point..who gives a crap..
vote security for the libs
The anchor store in my local mall moved out. A community college moved in. So now kids can get their free 2 year obamaducation and then work right there in the food court! Genius really.
The total amount spent on some 80-plus federal welfare programs by the U.S. Government amounts to roughly $1.6 trillion--by far the largest spending component.

I'm sure that's based on the price the students pay now, but we all know that won't stay still. Once the gov starts writing the checks, the massive cost inflation will set in. Then come theadd -ons. "Our studies find that the federally funded students aren't doing as well in this category, and that, theyr'e not bothering to show up for class or taking advantage of school programs, we need to hire moar administrators for guidance! What, do you want to waste the money you've already spent?!" And new programs for disadvantaged minority this and that to improve their graduation rates, blah blah. 60 billion over 10 years, yeah right, that buys you about 100 miles of border fence from the Feds, that's a B.S. number made up exactly to make you say "Rounding error" and keep quiet while they get started!
Yup, like any other projected cost that comes out of Washington just multiply it by 10. So $600 billion over ten years and I wouldn't be surprised if it was even more.
"... just take it from the military. They won't even miss it."
"take it"????
What is it that you don't understand about that they can not take what is not there?
Did you miss your 2 years of college?
The US Treasury runs a deficit each and every year, that's why the debt keeps going up.
What you'd be "taking" is another loan from the taxpayers, such as you if you are a US citizen.
And by the way, you may not be aware but the collateral for the Treasury loans is the US taxpayer.
Probably more than quadruple. I'm sure there will be numerous billboards in Mexico advertising his plan.

I wonder if this number reflects the tuition prices doubling once they realize they get subsidized to do so.
then the racket is complete.....guaranteed dependency, guaranteed unlimited salary and pension benefit increases.....paid for by an ever increasing number of (amnesty) students enrolled.....
CC's are typically county-run, funded by property taxes, in part. Guess who's going to get stuck with the bills to expand these day-care centers. For the children.
The Dems are blowing their load too early. Now the 2016 Dem candidate has to promise a bunch more "free" shit if they want to win.
"Healthcare"...check
"Education"...check
2016 promise...TBD
Free government sperm, to help people qualify for their benefits of course.
Free blow jobs would go over better
"free" university tuition would be next.
if employers looked at actuall college transcripts class by class, and determined what could be most applicable to the job you were applying to, it would be much more effective.
imagine an employer listing prerequisite college classes on an application. it would make things much more efficient. instead, they just ask for a "degree". they trust that each college will provide learning for each graduate which will not neccessarily meet the standards that they are hoping for. its really beuraucratic and lame.
there are so many useless classes lumped into a BA degree that go completely out the window once you graduate. a complete waste of money and time- only to add to the debt and stress of each students life
Cc's are county-level (I.e. Local). Perhaps this boondoggle could be put to good use in places. For instance, citizens/voters could require their local CC curriculum to include classes on critical thinking, the power of exponential growth, the Fed, civics, etc. You know, all the stuff that should have been taught in HS.
But of course that's pure fantasy on my part.
Print the fiat, get localities hooked on it, then control them with it. Just like your local police department gets that great free racial sensitivity training from the feds, they'll be there to help make sure your CC has a well-balanced curriculum. You do want to continue being certified so we will keep helping your students afford to attend classes in your new 40 million dollar campus complex your county just built, right?
Your right...I mean, as an employer myself, I mean, like, I have like, ALL FRICKING DAY to read over transcripts..I mean, the entire reason Im trying to hire someone is becasue I DONT HAVE enough time as it is, you know. So I get 500 resumes, and you miss smartie pants expect me to review not just the resumes BUT THE BLOODY TRANSCRIPTS TOO.
hahahahaha wow...call me when you start up and own more than a 2 person business...like a biz wil 10+ peolple, and customers in your face 12 hours a day...and then let me know how well you do at reviewing those transcripts.
Previous Experience and References are far more important on a resume than a degree from Beer Pong University.
Statistics are a beauty.
US natioanl unemployment well under 10%
Over 92 million not working in the US, a nation of just over 300 million
Commie Core math will take care of that problem as no one will (need to) know what the numbers mean... as long as they have the happy answer.
I own 2 businesses, one dealing in pretty complex math and accounting.
I cant friggin figure out half of the 1-3 grade Commie Core Math...WTF...most of it is more like distorted langues questions than learning how to calculate numbers in the brain.
Its by design...they dont want thinkers...they want workers.
"Its by design...they dont want thinkers...they want workers."
Comment of the thread, I only have one green to give.
Let me tell you whats going on in nmewn's corporate world. The CEO has been paid multi-million dollar stock options per year for as long as he was the CEO. Every (and I mean every) misstep he made along the way, from multi-billion dollar aquisitions (financed by debt, natch) and not matching the sellers books to the to the on the ground reality of the purported revenue to rolling over existing debt at a cheaper rate but with a higher debt load to the Come on Team!, you can do it! rah rah bullshit...was accompanied by, still more layoffs of the most intelligent thinkers & problem solvers on the face of the planet.
They were replaced by people who have little or no expertise in this or any industry of complexity, who I wouldn't trust to push a grocery cart toward my car in a fucking parking lot and of course foreigners who don't even know what a grocery cart is, let alone what they were actually hired to do which has nothing to do with grocery carts but seems to think it does...lol.
But he (and they) got theirs and are now scrambling around trying to figure out why nothings getting done and everythings so screwed up because (in my case) I'm spending fully half my time on emails and new systems implemented to improve productivity telling other people (who shouldn't even be asking stupid qyestions) what their actual job function is, at the detriment of mine.
Karl Marx cloned with Henry Ford couldn't have done a better job.

The Price of Progress: That you remain as ignorant of reality as you can
The examples are endless….. But, let’s stick with Community College
By The Homeless Adjunct
V.P. Joe Biden: “The reason tuitions are out of control is because of the high price of college faculty.”
Biden has NO IDEA what he is talking about. At latest count, we have 1.5 million university professors in this country, 1 million of whom are adjuncts.
These one million professors in America are hired on short-term contracts, earning, on average, $20K a year gross, with no benefits or healthcare, no unemployment insurance when they are out of work. Keep in mind, too, that many of the more recent Ph.Ds have entered this field often with the burden of six figure student loan debt on their backs.
Nixon secured passage of the HMO Act in 1973, the organizations went quickly from operating on a non-profit organization model, focused on high quality health care for controlled costs, to being for-profit organizations, with lots of corporate money funding them – and suddenly the idea of high-quality health care was sacrificed in favor of profits – which meant taking in higher and higher premiums and offering less and less service, more denied claims, more limitations placed on doctors, who became a “managed profession”.
Something akin to the HMO — let’s call it an “EMO”, Educational Management Organization, began to take hold in American academia. From the 1970s until today, as the number of full-time faculty jobs continued to shrink, the number of full-time administrative jobs began to explode. As faculty was deprofessionalized and casualized, reduced to teaching as migrant contract workers, administrative jobs now offered good, solid salaries, benefits, offices, prestige and power.
In 2012, administrators now outnumber faculty on every campus across the country.

By the Chronicle of Higher Education: The Ph.D. now comes with food stamps
Numerous phone calls to Northwest Florida State College, where Mr. Stegall teaches, were not returned.
"It's the dirty little secret of higher education," says Mr. Williams of the New Faculty Majority.
"Many administrators are not aware of the whole extent of the problem. But all it takes is for somebody to run the numbers to see that their faculty is eligible for welfare assistance."
Elliott Stegall, a white, 51-year-old married father of two, picks up food assistance at the ‘WIC’ (Woman, Infant, and Children federally-funded health and nutrition program) in DeFuniak Springs, Florida while teaching English at Northwest Florida State College
As he sat in the WIC office with his family, Mr. Stegall blamed himself. He made a choice, he says, to earn a graduate degree even as he saw the economy collapsing, the humanities under assault, and the academic job market worsening.
"As a man, I felt like I was a failure. I had devoted myself to the world of cerebral activity. I had learned a practical skill that was elitist," he says. "Perhaps I should have been learning a skill that the economy supports."

(my) Key Point
Our education simply does not possess the foresight to perceive the risks associated to our biological priorities. Our education, effectively, blindfold us (our youth) even more.
Collapse is well underway. I am just a very curious observer.
“Filter bullshit, focus on outcomes.” – Dave Cohen, of “Decline of the Empire” (DOTE)
Escrava,
In Canada circa 1974 education was free, medical was mostly free, business formation was done with savings and their business was world class competitive. By using Savings of this type, people stopped going to banks for loans, and instead neighbors financed neighbors.
There is enough flux energy of a proper economy to afford college for anybody that wants to go. In fact, since labor is a component of all economics, then improving the lot of labor make for better economic outcomes. A well educated populace of high IQ, self directed people should be a priority of government.
It all begins and ends with the money system. Money systems price things and direct the flux energy of an economy. Money allocates by pricing and distribution, among its many other attributes.
As Margaret Kennedy has shown, usury and other rents on money supply drain away about 40% of a people's energy. Siphoning away 40 percent to inefficiencies and oligarchy is effectively welfare for the rich.
So, the idea that we cannot afford college and build out roads and improve our lot in life is not true. History shows definately, that humans can improve the commons and channel productivity to their benefit. Usually this sort of beneficial system is snuffed out by "private international bankers" who in turn follow ancient tribal doctrine such as Kaballah and Talmud. Money is a commons, it is not a rent system for the "international."
Canada was allowed to keep her "sane" system of money until 1974, and that is when international bankers made their move, by paying off parliamentarians and forcing BOC into the BIS system.
Here is a quote from Mckenzie King of Bank of Canada, 1935 or so. I recommend reading links and watching utube video.
“Until the control of the issue of currency and credit is restored to government and recognized as its most conspicuous and sacred responsibility, all talk of the sovereignty of Parliament and of democracy is idle and futile. Once a nation parts with the control of its currency and credit, it matters not who makes that nation's laws. Usury, once in control, will wreck any nation.”
http://www.webofdebt.com/articles/canadian_healthcare.php
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuP2hH0Kpro
So, the idea of energy death of humans, as per Reg Morrison, I wouldn't make that call yet.
We use up more and more energy to pay usury/debts. It is something like walking down the middle of a cone, where what we have to do in the future is more in order to pay what is behind us. The cone opens up faster and faster in front of us i.e. the future, demanding more to pay the past. This causes us to rape the environment and monetize everything. For example, convert a forest to board feet of lumber to then sell lumber for money.
An economy that has a large percentage of gifting must also have money that works properly, and hence the need for ever increasing inputs of energy goes way down. Also more gifting will put humans back on the path of being the social animal they were meant to be, and they will spend less time driving around and going crazy to monetize everything.

If the bankers were able to change Canada, with about 30 million people; then, Japan, probably the most homogenized society on the developed world, as well as highly educated, what are the odds that we, in America, would be able to overcome this propaganda?
Second: Not that I need to remind you, let’s not forget what happened to Mossadegh, Salvador Allende, Saddam, Gaddafi, and the list is long, as well as Assad and Putin now, by having them taking on the bankers.
What do we do, beside blogging?
Anthony Migchels recommends removing the money from the banks. As well cash all the savings and remove it out of the financial system.
But then, what?
Sorry for putting you on the spot, but how can we turn this cone around?
We'll have to make an alternate money system that is run by monetary fundamentals. In other words, we will make a system. The system will be non profit and work as a servant to the needs of the community.
See Anthony's talent system. It will be going for crowd funding next. I've developed rules for my system, which is very similar. I'm waiting on him to get the software developed.
Wow! Great.
Looking forward to see where your both ideas and solutions lead.
Once the free handouts begin, costs always skyrocket.
"AA Degree" will take on an entirely new meaning, it seems
more like AAA lol
Remember LBJ's promise that medicare would never cost more than $500 million per year?
http://spectator.org/articles/41988/obamas-lbj-syndrome
Bingo. Another 2-3 years of statist conditioning on young undeveloped minds will be the real cost.
Ill have those shit for brains, lazy slackers voting democrat for the next hundred years- Obola
One way we could fund half of the 60 billion for free education would be to cut out all foreign aid to Israel. It's 3 billion a year. So times 10 years that's 30 billion. Half the problem solved and we give Israel some "tough love" and let them finally stand on their own two feet. Win win!!
why stop at israel. cut all foreign aid. and all transfer payments; to corporations and individuals. Even scumbags like you deserve to keep your hard earned money.
totally for this in theory...
However we already opened up Pandoras Box. Stop foregin aid sure...and get ready for WW3. And not just "across the pond"...the enemies can now reach homeland too.
We stuck ourselves into our own Catch 22.
Unless we want to poll out, close borders, and shoot to kill anything that crosses...might actually be good for us. Not for them...a whole lot of them.
Foreign aid exacerbates corruption; plain and simple.
Whether they start giving it away for "free", or keep on the current path, it is all polishing brass on the Titanic. Both Education and Healthcare are long-term broken. There is no fix that the government can provide. The taxpayer, one way or another, will pay.
"There is no fix that the government can provide."
Assuming that government itself isn't the problem.
Notice that we're talking about $60Bn over ten years, versus $60Bn over ONE MONTH in QE. So when the bankers get a giant pile of cash month after month, year after year, no problem; but when the government goes to spend one month's QE allocation on education over a period of ten years, at a burn rate of 1/120th the cost, suddenly the "fiscal conservative" types go into full psycho-jackhammer rabid-wolfbeast demon-scream mode and start yelling their faces off about "the cost, the COST! The HORROR!" Compare, contrast, discuss.
It's all theater, folks. Our feelings and opinions about this garbage matter less than an ant fart in a hurricane. Just get some popcorn and enjoy the show.
Well, Elliot you must not be paying attention. Have you even read the comments on articles about QE? I believe there is almost always a guillotine reference. This is just more out of control spending by our brain-dead government and it makes people angry. Yours is just another tiresome attempt to smear "fiscal conservatives" to try and justify unbridled government spending. Yawn.
Elliot is displaying typical progressive debate tactics.
"You're against welfare for the poor? That means you must be in support of welfare for the rich. Therefore, your argument against welfare for the poor is meaningless. Wait, you're against welfare for the rich too? Well, oh, umm, I better get my ass back over to the safety of Tumblr and ridicule conservatives some more."
Ants fart?
one months worth of QE for the 1% crowd!!!!! 60 billion over ten years!!!!!! about time the little man got something after trillions of dollar creation for bankers and 1% slave owners.
Exactly EE, bullshit cry babies from the red/right state go apeshit over 60 billion and not a word about their royal ass job by bankers/1%. i swear if these nimrods ever get a clue something might change in this country. Whoa the little people get something heaven forbid.
A. The "little people" are going to get jack shit from this.
B. This is going to cost FAR more than 60 billion.
C. This can no way hurt those you wish.
I can go on but my lunch break is over. Please pull your head out of your ass and breathe reality.

Has anyone ever been hired due to a community college degree? Just asking cause I know lots of dolts who went to a tier 3 university for years and are still in retail/food services.
My two year AAS helped me get my co-op job when I was working on my engineering degree. It helped. 20 years ago.
My brother did the 2 year CC thing and then transferred to the 4 year for the degree. Saved a lot of money that way and has the big university degree.
Oh. Is the degree helping him? No... But it does cover part of his wall pretty well. And it has a nice frame so...
I actually hired myself.

My brother is a systems analyst earning bucks with a Two Year Cert out of Coleman College. Nothing right now trumps experience.
So yes. Years ago when it meant something it would get your foot inside of the door..
The problem with this is supply and demand. When there is a oversupply of degreed applicants then that degree loses its value rapidly.
Free Education is just that...free. If it is not worth paying for then it is not worth having.
That $60 Billion number???
LMAO. Multiply it by a factor of ten. This is just a signal for Community Colleges that they have the Green Light to raise Tuition to stratospheric levels as the Government will cover the expense, no matter how extreme the bill might be...
Those Administrators are now just licking their chops knowing that they will get stratospheric raises.
Obama is now in the process of destroying the Community College system.
Well said. ;-)

Electricians, welders, dental hygienists, etc.
Ha... I think I had the right plan... just drop out!
after an argument over why I need to take a bunch of college classes that I saw as pointless, I dropped out...
what did it get me...
-no student loan debt
-more creativity
-I still bring in more than double what most of my friends with a degree make...
that coupled with the fact that about half of the people I know who completed school, either work outside of the feild they got their degree in, or hate their work.
I think some people may be better off just not going...
Same here. I went to an excellent college for one year and had to drop out for financial reasons. I took some courses to advance my career in electronics.
Yes, I dropped out of college and was working as an electronics technician at 18, before the PC era. (Both meanings)
I continued taking occational courses in things I was interested in but never pursued a degree.
I've started 3 companies and have now enjoyed the freedom of consulting work on my schedule for over a decade.
When I go out to dinner my server generally has more college than I, and more debt than I've ever had including the mortgage on my first house.
Even in grade schools, many school districts spend more on 'Administration' than any other item in ther budget. Many have more 'Administrators' than teachers. It didn't used to be that way. Then they threw Federal money at schools with the incentive to spend more to get more with no accountability. The solutions? Dumb down the tests to improve perceived outcome, and of course, throw more money at it. The Unions will make sure your head won't roll for wasting it.
Don't get me started on 'Common Core.'
QE is a loss, eduction is an investment.
QE is a loss, Education is an investment (gain or loss depending on price paid and degree earned), hard work is the only net gain.
But since hard work and cheap money are matter and anti-matter, the two cannot exist in the same space.
'But since hard work and cheap money are matter and anti-matter, the two cannot exist in the same space.' -- LOL, yes, anything will immediately lose all value if it becomes "free".
By design, all by design. This will really simply pit more people against each other, all seeking another "government solution"...
Can we just get WWIII going in earnest already?
>Education is an investment (gain or loss depending on price paid and degree earned)
I don't think you know what most people 'learn' at community colleges. Hell, if this is like Obamacare, it'll just be a thing that mandates that Community Colleges have to admit students and cover the cost ... somehow? I guess the government will pay for it? Or maybe it'll just be a mandate that can't actually be funded, like Obamacare?
If your education is financed by fraud ... your education is thus literally a fraud. This shit does not represent an 'investment'. It represents further taxpayer rape to fund indoctrination.
Oh I know it well. I was personally vexed that I had to get another A all over again in the same subjects I just endured teasing to get an A in.
It is?
So how is the Underwater Basketweaving course paying off for you?
How many Baskets have you made and how many are you selling?
Unless it is an applied and practical education then it is not investment but waste.
eduction is an investment
Hmm, I love absoluteness without qualifiers
"$60 billion? Less than one month's QE.
Yawn. Don't sweat the small stuff."
It won't be small stuff when all is said and done. It never is.
I will say there are worse things to spend the money on - IF the education is real. i.e., you flunk, you're out - you pass, it means you actually learned something.
Why stop at 2? Why not give everyone 34 years of free community college? After all, that's what all of the currently outstanding loans amount to.
Hey, it makes more sense than the trillions n corporate welfare we bestow on the banksters.
lol, if you pulled out a student loan to go to a junior college... you're dumber than oblamo. Not that you're wrong, it just struck me as a particularly hilarious form of stupidity.
The whole point is the use of 'debt' as a tool of slavery.
They may talk of 'debt forgiveness', but will never do it voluntarily in reality. Though they 'loaned' paper fiat made up out thin air.
Besides, now the whole population has been put on the hook for banksters derivatives losses. In their sick minds, they already own everybody.
Honestly, the problem is and never was about the loans. The problem is too obvious that even the numbf**ks on Wall Street and their paid whores in Washington can't see. The problem is there are NO JOBS WHEN YOU GET OUT OF SCHOOL...
i wasnt aware you need education to flip burgers, be a waiter/bartender, stock shelves at walmart or amazon warehouse and/or work a register at walmart.
How else you gonna get an interview?
And more and more, those jobs are being taken by old people. This whole thing is about "fixing" unemployment and keeping the young whippersnappers busy so they don't burn the place down.
I'll tell you how the elite intend to fix it: euthenasia.
When you're a narcissitic power-hungry Marxist, you are always better than everyone else. So if your plans don't go according to plan, then you have to make other people do something. Forget about changing your own thinking; the problem must be other people. So if there are no jobs for younger people, then we'll simply have to declare, unilaterally, of course, but it's for the good of the people, that everyone over 60 who doesn't have a special pass, will simply have to die. Oh, don't worry, the .gov will make sure it's painless, you sissies.
What, none of the ZH readers here other than that Marc to Market darling, Marc Chandler, over at Brown Brothers Harriman, have a special pass? Tsk, tsk, tsk, then you'll just need to go live in the mountains and wait for this whole youth in asia thing to blow over. Best of luck.
Soylent green...
Thought about writing that, but decided my post was already too long.
Exactly right. 0zer0 said "Take the blue pill". Everything you needed to know about him was said in that one little answer to the question he was asked.
Its the other way around. You need to be enrolled in a college if you are working at those places. As a student, you can get loans to pay for living expense which cant be covered due to low wage.
Relax. Øsurper promised ØbamaTax would not increase the cost of insurance.
Nothing to worry about from the most tranparent administration ever.
if they ain't workin they ain't payin tax so "them" is you.
This is total political bullshit.
Education is not something government does - SCHOOLING is what government does.
When my kids were still pretty young I used to tell them that they had to go to school, for legal reasons, and there, they would be schooled. Education was reserved for home. No TV was, I think, one of the better decisons I've made in life.
I've spent all my adult life learning new stuff. I studied Chemistry and Astronomy at Uni, and made my living for 15 years as a signpainter!
I'm working on knowing everything before I die. I know I won't do it, but I'd like to see how close I can get!
Some people just wanna watch basketball.
Says the man who paid for grade school.
I call b.s. on that figure. $60 billion? Toner cartridges aren't that much.
/sarc
I'm on board with this but only if it's paid for out of the pockets of the illegal indonesian kenyan alien muslim liar in chief fudgepacker and all its progressive liberademocraps.....
ALL DRESSED UP AND NO WHERE TO GO.
It's jobs Mr. Obama, nothing else.
ObamaSchool. Great.
Why does this look like a bailout to the academic sector?
Awe, sweet. The president has an innate desire to provide the current generation, those who were parented by friends, not parents, another nipple to blissfully suck. Why not let them do what they do best--suck.
EVERYTHING GOVERNMENT TOUCHES TURNS TO SHIT.
Remember that always.
"I'm from the government and I'm here to help"
But... but... but.. it's FREE!!! Government schools have taught us that we are owed this and besides, it's free. We don't have to pay for it. Ever. It's free! Nobody pays for it and we all get rich off of government spending.

Common Core teaches that math is a human invention and therefore if a 'consensus' of students decide that 1+1=5 they are correct, even though the class across the hall decided 1+1=11. They're both right.
Therefore, if we agree it's free, then it's free!
That's Obamanomics 101.
I wondered what happened to last night's tacos.
Fuck you, Barry.
$60 Billion projected means $600 Billion in reality.
Of course it does, because you have to have daycare for all the single mothers as they re-educate themselves on the gov't dime.
The single mothers I know can afford daycare. As long as said daycare prefers $1 bills...
Are they the sluts in the clubs that are working day shifts rather than night shifts?
Single Mothers?
Aren't the stretch marks too unsightly for that line of work? Now I have heard that they are getting paid "C" Notes for side jobs.
Then the price of hookers has been in collapse. But...Seriously...One Dollar Bills?
But what do I know? I do not frequent that.
But there are those whom I know whom tell me about it.
Tom, you slip a dollar bill in the garter of the dancer on stage. $20 will get you a lap dance for the length of a song. Don't forget to tip. The lighting is maybe 1 foot candle so you don't see the stretch marks.
and that's just to go to a 2 year college , is this for the free crowd shit and the illegals ONLY?
it was reported to cost 30 billion dollars when it was announced yesterday so yeah, it doubled overnight.
Maybe I'll start a Jr. college and get me some of that larder.
First I have to buy me a congressman. Whats the going rate?
Based on news reports, a few thousand dollars.
So, for about the 1 month cost of "recapitalizing" the banks, we can (try) to educate millions of poor kids?
Jeb Bush will repeal all of this! Really…. This time… 3rd Bush is a charm.
Three Bushes makes a Zerohedge
or a fun night
not poor kids. educate the millions of recently legalized (law-breaking) illegal immigrants.
Each legal adult taxpayer getting a $3 Million tax-free check wouldn't approach all the gravy .gov has slathered on Wall Street (Sodom & Gomorrah).
And then laundered to return as campaign donations.
Agreed. Goddam gov't shouldn't be doing EITHER!
If you want to live the good life in America you better quit your jobs and follow the path of Q99X2 through the colleges. YeeeeeeeHaaaaaaa the government goin up my FAFSA.
Of course, according to the rules of the free market, no one dares to ask or to check where all these billions go to, how they are managed by the banks. The state only intervenes to save banks and not checking even the slightest term of their financing. Any government officials and systemic journalists, are playing very well their roles, by pointing the finger at bankers who do not care to provide loans from all this liquidity they receive to stimulate the real economy. Besides, Barack Obama did the same, when in the peak of the crisis, higher bank executives and golden boys, defiantly shared nearly 20 billions in bonuses from the bailout packages.

everything is "free" when all it takes is Other People's Money.
60 billion is pocket change
And at least this money is going to provide some actual benefit to someone other than the 1%, with some real long term dividend potential
This should have been implemented on day one
You really believe yourself, don't you.
Here's a thought:
Why doesn't the federal government stop giving away 'free' stuff that they stole from somebody else and GET THE F**K OUT OF THE EDUCATION BUSINESS?
'Why doesn't the federal government stop giving away 'free' stuff that they stole from somebody else and GET THE F**K OUT OF THE Propaganda BUSINESS?"
There fixed that for ya.
Let's see... the student loan bubble has devalued a college degree while increasing costs to students in the form of non dis-chargeable debt. Now, community college is going to help destroy ALL value of a college degree. Especially for those who already are in debt trying to get one.
A government hole digging/refilling jobs program wouldn't even be as destructive in comparison.
The idea that this scam is a benefit is purely wishful thinking. This only helps employees and bond holders of community colleges.
This may destroy local colleges and the smaller State colleges. The lure of this money will cause those colleges to lower standards in order to get their share of loot. The students will be less qualified, less motivated and have less direction or thouight of what they intend to do.
But if you are a minority - use this free money to get a bs degree of some sort and find you are now ranked first for many more govt jobs. Private industry will disregard these degrees due to their quality being diminished. Which is a blow to those who were motivated but found these small colleges were their only option.
Still the smart ones could use the free money to get their basic english and history classes out of the way. That is if it is free to all and not just ment to be for minorities.
That's a special kind of stupid on display right there.
$60 billion is also BS.
If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. Premiums will go down. Oh, did I say go down? I meant double on the way to a triple.
