Ron Paul's Ten New Year’s Resolutions For Congress

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Ron Paul via The Ron Paul Institute for Peace & Prosperity,

Since New Year's is traditionally a time for resolutions, and since the new Congress convened this week, I thought I would suggest some New Year's resolutions for Congress:

1) Bring the troops home — Congress should take the first, and most important, step toward ending our hyper-interventionist foreign policy by bringing our troops home and closing all overseas military facilities. The American people can no longer afford to bear the cost of empire.

2) Pass the Audit the Fed bill — The American people deserve to know the entire truth about how the Federal Reserve's monetary policy benefits big-spending politicians and financial elites while harming average Americans.

3) Repeal the PATRIOT Act and rein in the National Security Agency — It is approaching two years since Edward Snowden revealed the extent of the NSA's unconstitutional spying. Yet Congress still refuses to put a leash on the surveillance state. Congress should take the first step toward restoring respect for the Fourth Amendment by allowing Section 215 of the PATRIOT Act to expire.

4) Shut down the Transportation Security Administration — Treating all American air travelers as criminal suspects and subjecting them to intrusive and humiliating searches does nothing to enhance our security. Congress should shut down TSA and return responsibility for airline security to the airlines. Private businesses can effectively protect their customers and employees if the government gets out of the way.

5) End all corporate welfare — Federal programs that provide subsidies or other special benefits to politically-connected businesses cause economic inequality, distort the market, and waste taxpayer money. It also makes political and moral sense to cut welfare for the rich before cutting welfare for the poor. Congress should start dismantling the corporate welfare state by killing the Export-Import Bank and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation. Congress should also reject legislation proposed to benefit one industry or individual, such as Sheldon Adelson's Internet gambling ban.

6) Repeal and Replace Obamacare — Many Americans are losing their insurance while others are facing increasing health care costs because of Obamacare. Repealing Obamacare is only a first step. Congress should both repeal all federal policies that distort the health care market and restore a true free market in health care.

7) End police militarization — The killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri in August brought the issue of police militarization to the center of national debate. Congress must end all federal programs that provide military equipment to local police forces.

8) Shut down the Department of Education — It is no coincidence that education in America has declined as federal control over education has increased. Congress should de-fund all federal education programs and return control over education to local communities and parents.

9) Allow individuals to opt out — A positive step toward restoring a free society would be allowing individuals to opt out of Obamacare and other federal mandates. Young people should also be granted the ability to opt out of paying Social Security and Medicare taxes in exchange for agreeing to never accept Social Security and Medicare benefits.

10) Allow state governments to opt out — If Congress lacks the votes to end the war on drugs, repeal Obamacare, or roll back other unconstitutional federal programs, it should at least respect the rights of states to set their own policies in these areas. Federal prohibition of state laws nullifying Obamacare or legalizing marijuana turns the Tenth Amendment upside down.

By adopting these resolutions, Congress can make 2015 the year America begins reversing the long, slow slide toward authoritarianism, empire, national bankruptcy, and economic decline.

Dr. Paul, your sincerity itself is bullshit.

In fact, by appealing to tons of bullshit about the Constitution and other patriot crap, former Congressman Ron Paul was able to persuade (and distract as well) his brute and ignorant constituency, and making tons of money at the expense of these useful idiots (a clever marketing technique indeed)

I hope he has made a lot of money, he has dedicated his life to the preservation of liberty. What the fuck have you done? He has wrote numerous books on the subject which have sold a lot of copies, and hopefully got a nice chunk of money from them. I know I've bought at least 4 of them. And as far as I know, he was on the lower end of the wealth spectrum among his fellow congressmen when he left office, although if you have evidence stating otherwise, please post it.

Writing books on interesting subjects, tricking us idiots into buying them for our own petty enjoyment, all in some crazy hair brained scheme to educate people while making a profit.....

Although some people are just too stupid to be helped, and you aren't alone.

If u really want to attack Ron Paul or his supporters,  you have to do if with logic and reason,  not ad hominem attacks.

You can get pretty much the same literature by not buying Ron Paul's books and instead downloading Murray Rothbard writings for free.

Even if there was no constitution or bill of rights ron Paul would sound the same.  He has a very simple philosophy.

1. Don't hurt people

2. Don't take their stuff

I still don't understand how people can be anti libertarian, when their philosophy is be agreed to by almost everyone.

Therefore we are in agreement that #1 should have been to balance the budget and pay off all debt. It both hurts us and takes our "stuff".

Granted many of the other resolutions do imply lower federal spending but still he should have come out and said it plainly and clearly.

The first step in the creation of fiat money is the printing of Treasury bills (government debt) which is then purchased by the Fed. Additional debt piggybacks off of government debt. If there was zero government debt there would be no "money" in circulation.

And that's how the Sovereign keep entertained the brute, ignorant and gullible masses in America: feeding them with nonsense about auditing the Federal Reserve. Definitively former Congressman Ron Paul did a superb job building false expectations, specially on Constitution worshippers about auditing the FED, simply by appealing to tons of bullshit about that document and other patriotic crap (a clever way to make easy money these days indeed). The Federal Reserve is Corporation immune to US laws, like it or not, period.

Probably a Fed or gooberment troll with the cut and paste posts trying to derail any status quo opposition.

Latest from Ron Paul:

"If Americans were honest with themselves they would acknowledge that the Republic is no more. We now live in a police state. If we do not recognize and resist this development, freedom and prosperity for all Americans will continue to deteriorate. All liberties in America today are under siege.

It didn’t happen overnight. It took many years of neglect for our liberties to be given away so casually for a promise of security from the politicians. The tragic part is that the more security was promised — physical and economic — the less liberty was protected.

With cradle-to-grave welfare protecting all citizens from any mistakes and a perpetual global war on terrorism, which a majority of Americans were convinced was absolutely necessary for our survival, our security and prosperity has been sacrificed.

It was all . . ."

His plan didn't really slow the rate down at all. It was a joke that only republicans with their blinders on could love. And it was hilarious hearing the left decry the 'draconian' cuts. If you look at the specifics of their 'plan' it was bloated with wasteful and unconstitutional spending. It was also hilariously optimistic in its growth and revenue forecasts. Basically in order for it to slow the growth of debt AT ALL we would have to experience full employment for the next decade or more, and also not experience a single recession, just 4% growth forever. You either have to have your head hopelessly far up your own or krugmans ass to think that is even remotely possible

Sat, 01/10/2015 - 00:37 | 5644892 El Vaquero

What most people don't understand is that the debt MUST double, on average, every 8 or so years.  It's built into the system.  If the US is still here 8 years after Obama leaves office and the dollar doesn't die (I find that highly unlikely,) the next 8 years will see another rough doubling.  If we stop, or even slow it down without a very strong economy to backstop it, it all comes crashing down.

Sat, 01/10/2015 - 02:33 | 5645059 Greenskeeper_Carl
Greenskeeper_Carl's picture

I don't believe the gov debt doubling every 8 years in necessarily required to avoid collapse, but as you say, it requires a strong economic backstop. That backstop is private sector debt. If people aren't taking on this debt, the govt has to. It shows just how weak our economy truly is if even with interest rates(the price of money) are kept artificially low, new homes still aren't being built. Few understand any of this, if you actually paid all this debt off, there wouldn't be any money.

Sat, 01/10/2015 - 03:35 | 5645078 El Vaquero
El Vaquero's picture

It has doubled, on average, every 8 years since at least 1971.  Not keeping this rate up it is slowing the faux growth down.  All of a sudden, there would be government layoffs (while the government is waaaaaaay too big, just suddenly shrinking it would cause massive problems,) it would have problems servicing its debt, it would be against the 2% inflation meme (which is needed so that everybody can service their debts,) bankers wouldn't get their high quality collateral at a rate that they need for their expansion, etc, etc, etc...

The bottom line is that the monetary system is flawed and corrupt and it won't be able to handle much of a slowdown in its growth.

Rand Paul would never right anything like that because he is trying too hard to court the establishment vote and is full of shit. This post directly called out that fat douchebag Sheldon adelson and his internet gambling ban(not because he thinks gambling is wrong, mind you, but because he doesn't make any money off it this way). Ron would not have given that turd the time of day, but you can bet rand will be cozying up to him this year if he wants that nomination. Rand wants to be president so bad he will abandon the principles that made his father great. He may win some votes that way, but no republican is going to win without his father supporters, and he is losing them like this.

Austrianism and Gold money go together.  According to the  protocols, "Gold has been very good to us."

Follow the funding links and it is the same crowd that funded Chicago School Monetarism (debt money).  Effectively, the money powers have created a dialectic to confuse the minds of the sheeple.  In both systems metal or debt, usury is the real goal, and then the ability to buy off politicians.

Ron Paul for honorary founding father...  I know, he's a bit late to the party but let's be real.  He's too good to be president (like Benjamin Franklin).  And his ideas are good enough to live by and rule a nation. He is in the vein of a Benjamin Franklin or a Thomas Jefferson IMHO.

While I like a lot of what Ron Paul has to say and think he seems 100 times better than any other federal politicians... I like to maintain a healthful level of scepticism. I suppose I've become cynical in my old age but I think politicians and Ron Paul is one, can't ever be trusted completely, power changes people, what they say to obtain it and what they do after they have are two different things. Ideas that they have and expound upon don't always work out if put into practice even if there really was a benevolent intent behind the politicians words, his #9, letting young people opt out of Social Security would simply bring Social Security to an end, as he must know.. why not then say so... say right out - bring Social Security to an end ? Doing so could I imagine have rather unpleasant results and no politician saying - end Social Security - would be electable anyway, he must know that as well, so why say it should be done ? I just don't trust politicians, any of them, irregardless of how well they come across, Obama seemed okay... sort of.. he seemed better than his predecessor or the alternatives up for election... but what a revolting ass he proved to be.

"The best president who was never elected", a poster said. They're all best never elected as far as I'm concerned.

Defunding, stopping the tax for Social Security would not stop it. The gov would simply order the fed to monetize it and they would balance the sheet.
The issue gets simple - do young people want to vote for government, pay into SS, private sector they opt out. Its economic democracy.

Its all just digits

Saint Ron Paul,

who could not fall,

was jeered and kicked aside.

But though he was quite wounded,

in truth, he never died.

His son, it's said, a shiny Rand,

who ran and won Kentucky,

will run again, and if he wins,

will make dad tsar of money!!!

I wonder if Congress realizes just how far in the toilet things have slid towards tyranny, and how most gun owners are now not waiting for the next word out of the politicians' mouths, or the next hopeful law, but rather, are waiting to see what the first target is.

timid! i have just 4

  1. default on all federal debt. end federal tax, shut down the federal government and all its agencies (including the Fed), alternatively, do it in istages. so downsize the military by 60-75% (get rid of hardware and double military pay/benefits of those remaining, close all overseas bases, bring all armed forces home and employ them as domestic para military units, moblie hospital units, emergency rescue workers, infrastrcture repairers/builders, cleaning up the hard drug trade and seizing all guns above hand gun in cities with more than 100,000 people and ending human trafficking/illegal immigration, etc.
  2. as currency is now controlled locally (why the hell does the Fed think that one policy fits every state anyway, e.g. Alabama v Caifornia) close down all banks operating in more than one state (the Fed is shut down anyway).
  3. close down all schools (the internet can do whatever it is they think they are doing).
  4. amend all federal and state constitutions so that no political decisions around spending are made if the voter turnout is less than 80%.

ok, so that's for starters :)

#11 Force Congress to investigate the events of 9/11 which will ENFORCE #1 and #3 automatically....

Until this is done 9/11 will continue to be used by present and future legislators who are controlled by the banks and the MIC that created these event(s) to advance their control over resources(.)

AE911Truth.org came to you more than once soliciting for your public statement(s) on their behalf and you never had the guts to follow through!

I'm sure your son won't be helping that cause for Truth either as he's too busy making frequent visits to the wailing wall in Palestine!

To us, it might look like just a rag. But to the brave, embattled men of the fort, it was more than that. It was a flag of surrender. And after that, it was torn up and used for shoe-shine rags, so the men would look nice for the surrender.

There seems to be three themes to the comments

1. The resolutions good but impossible to accomplish- so let's just complain/ nothing we can do.

2. The resolutions good but impossible to accomplish- so let's wait for heads to roll/ yet no indication they are involved actively.

3. The resolutions are offered by a charlaton/ people are dumb- yet no education offered just inflammatory name calling.

I read only one comment where a reader actually took action- he/she forwarded the list to their representatives. I will do the same.

Reading Zero Hedge and being awake is not the same as actively working toward solutions or educating others. This helplessness is pathetic and I myself find it a big turn off. When I think of Zero Hedge readers I think of people of action. Maybe sending or contacting Congress on the whole ineffective but if enough people do it maybe just maybe they may get afraid. Fear in itself is a good tool. When people are fearful they do not think straight. Believe it or not there are probably a few Congressional members who may just wake up themselves. Divisions could be helpful perhaps even alliegences with the awake could occur. Congressional staff may be willing to flip.

Put your Congressional members contact info in your phone and every time you see or hear something you want addressed contact them. I have been doing this for over a year. I am probably on some list but I don't care. The alternative of whining "well, that's just the way it is, or there's nothing we can do," just isn't for me. My efforts may mean nothing in the grander scheme of things but they mean something to me and that's all that matters. Stick up for what you believe in.
