Arson Attack On German Newspaper After Printing Charlie Hebdo Cartoons; Thousands Take To Streets In France - Live Webcast
A day when over 700,000 people are said to have taken part in marches across France in Paris, Orleans, Nice, Pau, Toulouse and Nantes, following three days of deadly attacks in the Paris area to commemorate the victims' memories, there was another attack which may be tied to the Charlie Hebdo tragedy, this time by unknown assailants who launched an incendiary device on the building of German newspaper Hamburger Morgenpost shortly after 2am local time when nobody was in the building, and which, as Bloomberg reports, had in recent days reproduced the cartoons published by Charlie Hebdo.
The newspaper confirmed the attack on its twitted feed:

According to Reuters, "a building of German newspaper Hamburger Morgenpost was the target of an arson attack and two suspects were arrested, police said on Sunday.
A police spokeswoman said that an incendiary device was thrown at the newspaper building in the night and documents were burned inside. Two suspects were arrested near the crime scene because they behaved in an unusual manner, she added.
AFP cites a police spokesman who said that "Rocks and then a burning object were thrown through the window. Two rooms on the lower floors were damaged but the fire was put out quickly.”
The newspaper said on its web page that there were no people inside the building when the attack happened. Whether the arson attack was connected to the Charlie Hebdo cartoons was still under investigation, the paper added.
Bloomberg adds that two male suspects aged 35 and 39 arrested in connection with arson attack and are being questioned, police say.

Unknown gunmen allegedly thrown around in the archives shortly after 2 clock from the back yard of the building on Griegstraße stones and an incendiary device. Some files are burned there. Luckily no people were in the house at the time.
Two young men who had behaved suspiciously in the area, have been arrested, according to police. The State Security has now started the investigation. Why the attack took place is so far unclear.
"There is no knowledge, no claim of responsibility or other evidence," police spokeswoman Karina Sadowsky said this morning.
Meanwhile across Paris thousands continues to march to pay tribute to the victims of the terror attacks from the past week.

The insanity, of course, is that a German magazine thinks that it lives in a free, safe, and secure environment - such that it has free speech without consequences. We look for easy answers. Mindless ones that take our responsibility for their consequences away. It was the law. We were following orders.

This is really a very complex situation that has developed. And what is disquieting is there is no guiding light to step forward and try to help people sort it all out.
You stir all of it (the economic malaise, the search for a scape goat, religious extremism, nationalism, populism, Troikaism, the history and culture etc) and you have a slomo disaster in the making.
My opinion on how the taboos of insulting a persons religion came to be was for a very good reason.
While intellectuals and converts can expound at length at their thought processes that lead them to a particular belief system, for most people religion is taught from the cradle. It is an integral part of who they are, their self identification much like their family DNA. While it may be subject to question on occasion, it may not be viewed quite the same way as political beliefs because it requires faith in the unseen and unknowable which go far beyond a mere viewpoint and become a locus of a persons essence or soul, if you will.
Politics and religion can engender an extreme emotional response as one can easily be substituted for another and while politics can be argued on the merits of the perceived outcomes of policy actions in a logical framework of proofs, religion relies only on faith that these ethereal outcomes exist at all.
This makes for a tenuous argument and when challenged to the rules of mortal logic they will always fall short and, in a sense all religious adherents seem to understand this on a certain level and will react with a predictable and sometimes violent response.
To insult or cast doubt on someones religion is literally, to most of them, an attack on their soul or essence rather than a critique of their opinions or worldview.

Yes indeed. If you want to look for trouble, insulting religious faith is clearly one surefire way to go. Unfortunately, in the hotbeds of the world, the lines between faith and politics is increasingly blurred. Politics of course being accepted as fair game.
The key is to correctly define what it is that is in OUR best interest, but more importantly to understand exactly WHO we speak of. Are we speaking of the future of western societies? because that is not clear to me. We are told constantly that we are to extend affirmative action to all races and religion over our own. But to what end? A more "progressive" society? What does that look like and who is in it?
We live with a lot of conflicting interests, within ourselves, but more importantly throughout the world. If these interests are not allowed to coexist, then there MUST be winners and losers. I don't know the answer other than to believe we will ultimately be forced to fight and sacrifice to keep our own as it is apparent that there are many others that will not coexist, will not tolerate, will not compromise.
If the carnage continues for much longer,I think we will find a "guiding light" but great violence will erupt most likely.
If Muslims have a death wish, it may be granted on a worldwide scale.
Evil ccertainly does exist and will only be tolerated for so long. The "guide" to resolution may be ugly.
There is an easy answer. Shariah law is illegal in Turkey. If a secular Islamic nation deems shariah law so dangerous that it's illegal, France can start by doing exactly that. There is no easy answer only because you have your head in the sand.

There is no doubt that few if any people serving in government truly believe in free speech when it comes to criticism of themselves or their policies, but please lets not use that as an excuse to turn a blind eye to the evil we confront from ALL directions.
