At the risk of provoking anti-Islamic rage against me, I would offer that freedom of speech must be contained within the context of 'responsible speech'. Speech that is known to provoke incendiary reaction from the target and which intentionally insults or hurts said target should not be allowed. We have so-called 'hate speech' laws in place to protect minorities such as LGBT's and Jews. In certain countries of Europe, one can be fined and jailed for saying something offensive to Jews in a public manner. Who decides when Jews are offended? The Jews, of course. But not so for the followers of Islam. These appear to be fair game. We know that images of the Prophet are deeply offensive to Muslims, and yet in the name of free speech we allow this - yes, even encourage it.
