Quote Of The Day: "Venezuela Must Deepen Socialism To Improve Economy" - Maduro
Practically presented with no comment, we could not quite believe the words coming out of Venezuela's President Maduro last night as he addressed the nation's concerns over mile-long lines for toothpaste, toilet-paper, bread, and soap:
- *VENEZUELA MUST DEEPEN SOCIALISM TO IMPROVE ECONOMY: MADURO
Having apparently failed on his mission to Asia to garner enough support to drag oil prices up to the $100 level he "believes is fair," Maduro went on to explain how he will "change the food supply system, not the economic model," to solve the nation's crisis, since "most of the private sector are parasitic bums."
As AP reports,
The complex crisis facing Venezuela has endangered the continuity of socialist model driven for more than a decade Chavez, while from the government the possibility of a revision of the model arises and any substantive change is discarded,
"The socialist model that created the commander (Hugo) Chavez is not a dogmatic model , is a model that can make adjustments, restructuring, " said Vice President Development Territorial Socialism, Elias Jaua, told The Associated Press by recognizing that the government is open to considering changes in the model. However, Jaua said that adjustments would never involve a shift "back to free market," and said the idea is to maintain a model that "give satisfaction to the people's needs."

Maduro has more to say... (as Bloomberg reports)
“Private sector, not everyone but most, are parasitic bums. They are a threat to the country”: Maduro
Product shortages caused by problems in private supply networks
“We have to change many things but not the model”: Maduro
Maduro says tried to gain liquid funds for “economic development” during foreign tour; doesn’t comment on success of efforts

And the market's betting it's not going to get better any time soon...

Yep looks like it's under control...

I'm sure that we will get to here that same line however rephrased from Obumerang in the state of the union in a few days.
"You didn't build that but we are going to take it anyways"
You know things are really bad when socialism represents an improvement over the current situation.
Oh, and at least these guys have socialism in a warm climate. Queueing up for hours in Russia, brrrrr.
"You know things are really bad when socialism represents an improvement over the current situation."
What? Their current situation is that for the past while, they have been undergoing the conversion process to absolute socialism.
Will be playing propaganda for them while they wait in line. Top 40s too!
He sounds like an American Democrat.
The situation in Venezuela as characterized by those long queues needs careful analysis.
The situation is probably caused by local socialist incompetence, but let us not forget that the US used similar methods to destabilized such countries as Iran, Guatemala and Chile to get rid of governments which were getting too independent from the United States and its policies.
Currently Argentina like Venezuela is experience high inflation; like Venezuela the local government in Argentina is rather incompetent, but it is increasing getting out of the US imperial orbit, so Washington is up to its usual tricks and is attempting to destabilize and overthrow that government and replace it with a local stooge.
"VENEZUELA MUST DEEPEN SOCIALISM TO IMPROVE ECONOMY: MADURO"
I hear Krugman speaking: the stimulus wasn't big enough.
With all those people standing in line, are the buildings in the background of the bottom photo, vacant?
What he said is actually a little more nuanced than in the above report, but is no less stupid.
He's called wholesaler middlemen import/export types parasites. He implies that they were allowed foreign currency (dollars) with which to buy things to import and instead they send the goods elsewhere (to be sold for hard cash). Elsewhere would be various locations in Columbia, Aruba, Miami and Portugal. No mention of what sorts of goods were involved, or the nature of the contracts underlying the transactions, but one doubts Miami or Portugal need much in the way of soap or toilet paper. Nonetheless, he says that the private distributors are engaging in "psycological war" against the people, and that the State system "may have a problem now, here and there, but the people are always attended and find what they need for their families". Tell that to the people in those lines, oh, wait, they were his audience.
What an ass... fact is, they have nothing to distribute. Venezeula is on a cash-up-front basis with everyone on the planet, except for the Chinese, maybe, and there's no cash to front.
Their biggest issue boils down to trust. It's very simple. Chavez stole diverse manufacturing assets pertaining to foreign companies. I say stole because years after the fact no-one has been paid for their property, this is to the tune of many $billions, and let's be real clear about that. But what do you expect from a nation founded by pirates? In the meantime, the bumbling arrogant, ok, fucking idiots managed to burn up the stolen assets... very literally in many cases -- think glass plants, steelworks, refineries, etc. Now they need to fix this stolen stuff or it remains detritus and scrap iron, and they can't produce shit, but there's this issue of cash.... and trust. Venezuela's governance has completely blown its credibility with just about everyone. Including Uruguai, a nation that isn't shy about its social sympathies, and had friendly commercial conversation with the Chavez people until this dipshit showed-up welching on prior agreements, and it is plain that he nor his entourage are the people to carry things forward.
Politically, there's nothing to backstop the venal idiots running the place now. Most of the reasonable smart people from Venezuela, which used to be a nice place, actually, if corrupt, split for Miami or wherever a while ago. This is why many there make noise about a military solution. Unfortunately for them, the armed forces are compromised either explicitly vis a vis (rampant) bribery or by the fact that the bus driver gets appeasing the legions ensuring that they aren't obliged to use their bidets.
Long bidets......
Still its a more orderly line than American Wal-Marts during major waves of xmas buying...in years a few years past
More of shit is shit. If they really want to fuck their people they'll give them communism.
Just like all leftists it's not the model that's the problem, it's the people who own a business who make the things people need to live that are the problem.
How dare they make soap or toilet paper that I need. Hell last week those people didn't know what toilet paper was.
Do yourselves a favor and hang every idiot who utters this nonsense.
Argentina's hallways and highways are streaked
Argentina Faces Tampon Shortage Retailers Scramble to Get Fresh Shipments as Government and Importers Trade BlameI would assimilate Venezuela, recycle all the socialists, make it a free-enterprise paradise. Was a VERY fun and beautiful country for holidays BEFOre the socialist parasites took over.
So was America and for the same reason.
Who would even give this guy a license to drive a bus?
"You didn't build that!"
