There Are More Slaves Today Than Ever Before In Human History

George Washington's picture

Pope Francis rang in the New Year by calling on people to work together to end slavery:

All of us are called to be free, all are called to be sons and daughters, and each, according to his or her own responsibilities, is called to combat modern forms of enslavement. From every people, culture and religion, let us join our forces.

You may have assumed that slavery was a thing of the past.  But sadly, it’s worse than ever before.

We reported in 2011:

You would assume that – as messed up as things may be today – at least there is not widespread slavery, as in ancient Egypt or the American south. But as Time Magazine noted last year:

Despite more than a dozen international conventions banning slavery in the past 150 years, there are more slaves today than at any point in human history. Slaves are those forced to perform services for no pay beyond subsistence and for the profit of others who hold them through fraud and violence. While most are held in debt bondage in the poorest regions of South Asia, some are trafficked in the midst of thriving development.

And see this.

Indeed, inequality in America today is worse than experienced by slaves in 1774 colonial America .. and twice as bad as in ancient slave-owning Rome.

As we warned years ago, Wall Street would like to put all of us in debt peonage.

Because we haven’t stood up for ourselves, they’re largely  succeeding.

Watch the documentary below the graphs to learn the truth about how the “war and drugs” is a political tool the government invented to keep Americans enslaved.

I see the African race has been brought into a slavery discussion. I just have to say:

People have a nasty tendency of meeting societies expectations of them.

Yes, there is a disproportionate number of blacks in US prisons, and yes they did commit those crimes (although racially biased sentencing is another matter...).

But watch the media rewarding young blacks for making "music" that celebrates the "gangsta life", and get rich for doing so! And crime dramas who show whites committing crimes with reason, and blacks committing crime without reason. And so the expectations are set.

We need to turn off that damn TV and meet our neighbors.

Poverty is the real enemy, too often we live up to expectations without realizing who's expectations those are. http://youtu.be/Rd10WumIAKA

If we are all in slavery would we even know it?

There was on young black boy who would strut around the yard after 5AM roll call and shout his rap about raping white bitches and killing people... He stole some of my food, and we had him removed.

They called his name to pack his gear, and he was excited to be leaving, but his next move was 2 pods over!; his bond was only $200...

Me, and a few of the decent peeps, took it upon ourselves to weed the garden.

Half the jailers still retained their humainity, the other half not so much.

I was in  Cobb county jail.

The light are never off.  The TV blairs from 8:30AM til 10:00PM daily. The screaming and yelling never ceases!

If it is on BET fights break out!

I'm not a racist, but I'll tell you one thing, I've never seen any activity that mimics chimps more than county jail!  I was shocked!

It;s not what you think.  These people behave worse than animals!

Fat people in jail are even worse! I now have a hatred for fat people!; how they behave is just attrocious!

Go ahead! hate a way!

Slavery and indentured servitude played and plays a necessary function in society.  The West has been able rid itself of these vile but necessary practices via (true) capitalism and free markets.  Will there come a day when poverty in the West is no longer the exception but the rule?  If or when this happens, the wealthy will again be slave holders and grantors of indentured servitude.

I this click baiting?

Being incarcerated is not the same as slavery; I would rather be a slave, as it would at least keep me occupied rather than rotting in jail or prison surrounded by the brain dead and the sociopaths.

Just spent 30 days in county lock up for growing my own medicine in a non-med state. I lost 18lbs.

This was just pre-trial confinement. I've not even been indicted yet.  I would have sat there for 6+ months waiting for trial.

My family refused to bail me out!  Surprisingly the ex wife signed the bond for me, and she was able to round up the monies needed to pay them.

Sorry to hear that. I cannot believe that in this "modern" and "enlightened" country we can lock people up in one state for something that is perfectly legal in another. Does the judge and prosecutor have no shame?

Blacks commit more crimes. That's why they are in jail. More should be.Then we'd have to stop acting like prisoners in our own society. Of course, we'd still have Jews and hispanics to deal with.

Slavery is a word for emoting. We argue over the meaning of words rather than the reality of existence. The reality is prisons fail, elites abuse non-elites, debt which does not empower the debtor for greater earnings is a snare, the government steals, its media lie, because the sheeple crave a leader to think for them. Their masters oblige.

The Nuremberg kangaroo courts are a study in injustice.  Prisoners, at least those who had not died under torture, were often tried on the basis of laws that did not exist at the time of the offence and we denied themost basic Anglo-American judicial standards. Most of the 'American' prosecution lawyers were actually European Jews who had gained American citizenship, but returned to Germany for revenge.  Accused were not allowed the tu quoque defence, i.e. citing that the Allies did the same as they did.  Julius Streicher was condemned to hang but wasn't even a member of the Government. His only identifiable 'crime' was to publish a crude anti-Semitic newspaper and be an early supporter of Hitler.

Read. Reasearch.  The Truth shall set you free.

We have a vast plantation system with prison industries. I know it well. I worked in it as a young man. My brother in law currently runs the Mississippi prison industries system.   The thirteenth amendment made it legal and the street cop works as a slave catcher.

The progressive rush to criminalize what they saw as immoral behavior provides the net that entraps most these people.  Once you get in it, the criminal justice system is like a massive sheet of fly paper.  You can never free yourself from it.

We need to decriminalize a lot of things and bring back the rope for the most heinous of crimes.

"We need to decriminalize a lot of things and bring back the rope for the most heinous of crimes."

Yes, decriminalize most drug offences and - I hate to admit it - there needs to be capital punishment for most murders.

But remember literally millions of jobs, police, prison warders, courts, logistics services are dependent on imprisoning 'large numbers of folk'.

A slave in 1850 USA could not move, could not have a family without his master's permission. They could not sell their labor as they saw fit. That's what made them slaves, nothing to,do,with their ability to own assets.

None of these conditions apply today.

Of course most of us would like to be rich, but unless you are in jail you are free to pursue your dream, if you have one. Most people don't have a dream so they settle for hind teat, c'est droll.

Don't trivialize slavery by telling us we are all slaves because we can't afford more toys.

Mr Washington it is not just black people it is appearing in all races and here is the method. Slavery never went it just became economics. You adopt a Keynesian economy and through central bank driven inflation and manipulation by banksters to support sovereigns you end up with slaves and not-slaves.

A slave is the one who can never afford to purchase an asset, therefore as the central banker does not give them a HANDOUT EQUAL TO THE ASSET INCREASE THEY CAUSED they slip into a subsistence existence.

Not a slave is the one who managed to obtain enough assets to ride the bubble where in terms governments describe through the asset price increase were handed FREE MONEY = THE BRIBE YOU NEVER SEEN.

Stuff this slave democracy, slavery is endemic and minimum wage does not cut it if you can never obtain an asset. Now under the collapse in earnings all those with no assets will perish in old age in poverty IF THEY MAKE IT.

WHY THE HELL SHOULD ANYONE ELSE BE GIVEN THAT EXTRA AS A HIDDEN BRIBE AND OTHERS GET NOTHING BUT POVERTY AND SLAVERY.

Central banks won't stop the stimulus neither ... after that brief summary reckon any action is legitimate to protect yourself because government, central banks will attack you and because "I am alright not a slave category" (call it the middle class) certainly will not.

Last summer I asked a handsome black girl in Waynesboro Georgia, at a drugstore, she was running the register... I don't know WHY I said this, but I asked her if she thought she and her family's quality of life was better now compared to during slavery before the civil war. She said, it was better during slavery... I asked her why do you say that? What she said completely blew my mind. She said:

"Because a man tends to take care of his property"

The banning of importation and its effective enforcement made slaves

a valuable commodity in the USA.  They received a little better treatment than

other places

In Brazil a different model prevailed. Importation was much cheaper than

raising children. Only men were imported,  then basically worked and

starved to death. Millions worked and died for cheap sugar.  Caribbean

sugar producers couldn't compete with Brazil.

History may not repeat but it rhymes.

WE ENSLAVE OURSELVES, because we raise our children to grow up and become law enforcement officers who do not enforce the laws against the criminals that keep us as livestock. Instead, our children that grow up to be cops will shoot us dead if we do not submit to our evil government. There are two types of Government. Type A is when money is printed and GIVEN to the people, and they have freedom, rights and wealth. Type B is when money is printed for the Government only, the people's freedoms, rights and wealth are TAKEN AWAY FROM THEM. The people are held captive. Cops are brainwashed by us from the time they enter kindergarten, and we raise them to obey blindly. Just like Soldiers. Together, they enslave all of us to our captors. They're not even Homo-Erectus. They're Homo-Parasitus. Or Homo-criminitis. And why can't we talk about their crimes? Why are there no consequences for their crimes? Why do the cops keep the criminals in power? Why is it anti-Semitic to point out that they're all criminals?

"There are two types of Government. Type A is when money is printed and GIVEN to the people, and they have freedom, rights and wealth."

Huh? Right there you have your problem. Money is PRINTED? GIVEN? To the PEOPLE? By whom? And how is THAT freedom? Rights are not granted. Period. And wealth? How's all the printing going for ya? Wealth is a result of PRODUCTION. It is not given, granted, printed, or magically produced out of thin air.

But you are correct if not eloquent in regard to cops. Nothing but parasite thugs for the elite.
