Ukraine's Poroshenko Rejects Putin's "Peace Plan"; Massive Shelling Ensues

Tyler Durden's picture

Further to the dramatic footage yesterday, Ukrainian troops have launched a massive assault on militia-held areas, according to RT. This comes on the heels of Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko rejecting a peace plan proposed to him last week by his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. As Reuters reports, Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday evening, according to Russian media, that the plan, contained in a letter sent by Putin on Thursday evening, proposed a ceasefire by both government forces and separatist militiamen in southeastern Ukraine, as well as the withdrawal of heavy artillery by both sides. Given the images below, it will be hard to see how Ukraine (and The West) will spin this...

As Reuters reports,

Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko rejected a peace plan proposed to him last week by his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday evening, according to Russian media.

Peskov said the plan, contained in a letter sent by Putin on Thursday evening, proposed a ceasefire by both government forces and separatist militiamen in southeastern Ukraine, as well as the withdrawal of heavy artillery by both sides.

"In recent days, Russia has consistently undertaken efforts as an intermediary in regulating the conflict," Peskov said in comments quoted by the ITAR TASS news agency.

"In particular, on Thursday night a written address was sent by the president of Russia to the president of Ukraine, in which a concrete plan was proposed to both sides in the conflict to withdraw heavy artillery."

A copy of the letter was published by the Russian television channel NTV. In it, Putin proposed "urgent measures for the cessation of mutual shelling, and also the rapid withdrawal by the sides in the conflict of means of destruction with a caliber higher than 100 mm".

While, as The Burning Platform exclaims, Ukraine appears to be in full-scale war but the US mainstream media remains silent...

Ukrainian troops have launched a massive assault on militia-held areas. The Putilovsky Bridge, which is located near the Donetsk airport has been destroyed in the shelling along with countless buildings.

Anti-Kiev forces alleged to be the Novorossia Armed Forces (NAF) firing on Kiev positions just outside Donetsk with field artillery. The footage was reportedly filmed overnight on Saturday.

The suspected sound of a jet engine was heard moments before a rocket attack targeted the area surrounding Donetsk International Airport on Friday.

All that's going to happen is more US weaponry getting into the hands of the Novorussians.  The Ukie conscripts, with their 10 days of training, are going to run from the front lines or seek asylum in Russia.  The Russian don't need to arm the "rebels", the US is going to do it for them.

PUTINSTAN IS COMING TO THE END!

Zionist controlled "Russian" oligarchy has no future. Putin has no way out: either an all-out invasion and occupation of Ukraine by Russian arm forces or a capitulation. Putin cannot occupy Ukraine installing its own Zionist controlled oligarchy over the present Zionist controlled Ukrainian oligarchy. It is an end of Putinstan.

Putin is hated by Russian-Slave people. The initiative is now in American hand with China being a wildcard. Putin's days are numbered regardless what. Now Putin on his way to meet Qaddafi and Saddam. The rotten asshole did not deserve any better.

Taxes have little to do with national budgets. It's your tithe for the privlege of buying/selling/habitatingl/eating/traveling/etc. When people get punished for not paying taxes, it's not because they need the cash--it's because you didn't obey. There is a Federal Reserve and petro-dollar for any budget needs. CIA drug money and laundering probably doesn't hurt either.

Mon, 01/19/2015 - 07:19 | 5678806 Paveway IV
Paveway IV's picture

The Western media stopped covering Ukraine because it's no longer of use to them.

The primary value of Ukraine (in the eyes of the EU/USA) was as the sole transit route for Russian gas to Europe. Nord Stream was the beginning of the end, pipeline debt and theft finished Ukraine's role and v 2.0 of South/Turk Stream is the final nail in the coffin. U.S. sanctions or any kind of gas embargo are useless without alternate gas suppliers. The entire EU/USA effort to collar Russia via Ukraine gas transit has been a colossal failure.

"Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face"

Ukraine's value for ABM sites and Black Sea U.S. naval clown-fuckery were always questionable - no modern strategic defense calls for ABM sites right outside the adversary's fence-line. It doesn't work like that. Sure, useful if you have that kind of access but hardly a 'key' part of anything. Probably more useful for various spook purposes or just generally pissing Russia off.

Economically, Ukraine is an epic liability - Greek style - to anyone foolish enough to touch it.

Industrially, Motor Sich (turbines and aircraft engines) is probably worth fighting over, but their plants would be destroyed in the process.

Zaporizhye Nuclear Power Plant is worth fighting over, but Kolomoisky will never let anyone take his toys from him. Sampson option.

The U.S. screwed up again and is tucking its tail between its legs and skulking off into the weeds. We'll toss a few hundred million of arms and Blackwater at them, but the whole project is turning into a disaster.

Mainstream media has been given the message loud and clear: "Just ignore Ukriane and pretend it never happened. Maybe people won't notice and forget about it"

It's not an accident that the Ukraine population isn't listed here - Ukrainians are useless to the U.S. and Ukraine oligarch psychopaths. It would take twenty years to run every one of those corrupt bastards through the International Criminal Court prior to their executions. Ukraine won't even exist by then.

Ukraine is on the offensive so it blows up the main bridge leading to and from the airport?  That propaganda is so thick that even I know it makes no sense.

What really happened is that the Russian invaders blew up the bridge to keep from being overrun--it's the only logical explanation.  There's probably some Russian boys left on the other side who are now cut off.

I hate it, but lots of Russian military in bodybags are necessary.  It's the only thing that will completely turn Russians against Putin.

Wrong folks, "folks". What IS necessary to fend off the slow but increasing slide to WW3, are lots of Xie / Blackwater bodies in bodybags, along with Globally televised trials (and confessions, to direct public anger against the REAL perpetrators) from the surviving captives.

As for "turning the Russians against Putin" - the Russian people have experienced first-hand the "consequences" of appeasement policies under "Mickey the Marked", and Yeltsin. They will not be treading THAT path again, anytime soon. "Remove" Putin? Plenty of replacements, the majority of which are VERY hard-line "Pro USSR Restoration", so be VERY careful what you wish for . . . . .

Before this site ended being a financial blog and subsequently became an arm of the FSB, I used to post articles.  I miss that Zero Hedge.

The FSB crowd making comments is acting like hysterical women now.  Ukraine is in a fight for their very identity right now and they have to act like it.  Russia faces no such existential threat.  Putin isn't Hitler, he's just a crook living by the law of the jackal.  No one around him has any loyalty outside of getting their payoff.  They'll turn on him when it makes sense to do so.  Authoritarians always look strong from outside, but on the inside they are weak.

This is a Russian invasion based on regaining a lost sphere of influence.  Ukraine will either be absorbed by a resurgent Russian empire, or they have a chance to break from this disadvantageous past and strike a new course for themselves no longer a sphere of Russian influence.  They will have to fight for it.

The Ukraine has the most compentent leadership since the Wall fell.  My best wishes for them.

Cool pic.  But you know Chiang, I commented five years ago in spite of hoards of dead-beats that didn't pay their mortgages and called squatting the "fair thing to do".  Man, you haven't even seen downvotes like those days.  But the truth came out:  squatters lost their homes.   I commented when the majority wanted to kill all bankers because they were "killing innocent people".  Thing is, people weren't killed, they just had to move out and move on.  When they accepted life changed on them, things worked out.  I commented in spite of the doomsday prepper crowd that came and has since left who thought civilization was going to end tomorrow.  Civilization is still around.  Lots of junk don't discreditsolid thought.

I was silent through what I can only call the "Stormfront year".  That was bad.

So when I comment that Russia will either implode due to the combination of being shut out of the capital market and oil prices rendering their exports uncompetitive or they will desist their invasion of Ukraine and the sanctions will end, in time it will be obvious.

I say again.."you have the duly elected President of Ukraine.  Why attack Crimea?". This makes no sense to me.

What makes/made sense is a direct incursion into Kiev to get "your man" back in there.

What "the West" does from here will be interesting as no less than the Secretary of State went to Kiev to lay flowers for the Fallen.

The State of the Union is coming up.  Is the President planning a visit? Or is that Kabul 2.0 now?

I don't even like to talk about it.  I think its all stupid.

Yes, Civil War. But some just conveniently ignore that this particular Civil War was arranged and is being actively supported by DC. Russia supporting ethnic russians to save them from extermination - bad, US pushing their puppets in Kiev into war and sending mercenaries and advisors - good. Even the blind should see a pattern here - every time USA gets involved instability, blood and destruction is the result.

Just because they have run a bunch of anti-russian propaganda does not mean most think it is Russia's fault. Perhaps they (TPTB and MSM) have starting to believe their own bullshit; or perhaps they just don't give a fuck what the average westerner thinks, as long as the propaganda is there any attempt at the truth from the populace will just be turned to said propaganda. If you look at the comments of MSM a lot of people know there is a lot of lies from the west. The fact is TPTB don't give a fuck what people think, just what is shown as "the truth". Any opposition can then be attacked.

Time for Total Economic War on Porky & CIA junta:
.

1. Turn off the Gas
2. Stop Coal deliveries
3. Call in Ukraine's overdue Debt.

Force them into Insolvency and Bankruptcy!

In parallel, a Political war on Porky's junta and it sponsors (CIA/St.Dept):

1. Call Ukraine's actions as Barbaric, and violating Basic Human Rights, and "Systematically engaging in domestic Terrorism against its own populace".

2. Issue a statement and PR campaign that... "Russia can not and will not tolerate these perpetual barbaric actions on its Frontier. If the UNSC or OECD does not intervene in a timely AND meaningful manner, Russia will have no choice but to step in as a "Good Global Citizen" and act unilaterally until the OECD and UN do what is required of them."

Turn NovoRossiya into an Buffer Zone, into its own Golan Heights, until the humanitarian and Human Rights issues are resolved (i.e. they gain Independence, just like Kosovo did). What's good for the goose...

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said that Kiev offered Moscow to sign the schedule of implementation of the Minsk agreements and ensure a ceasefire Monday, Jan. 19.

In a statement posted on the website of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, said that Kiev has offered Russia to sign the schedule of implementation of the agreements in the wording of Minsk on November 13, and a ceasefire since January 19, according to RIA Novosti .

"Interfax" quotes the text of the message: "November 13, 2014 representatives of Ukraine and Russia signed a working document providing a clear timetable for implementation of the provisions of the memorandum of Minsk, in particular, in the part of the bilateral ceasefire, withdrawal of heavy weapons and return to the line of demarcation. Today in Ukraine once again appealed to the Russian Federation with a proposal to sign a schedule of implementation of the agreements Minsk is in the editorial board of 13 November and a ceasefire since January 19. We are convinced that it will allow an immediate ceasefire and protect civilians from attacks in the region. Start the strict implementation of this document will create the necessary prerequisites for conducting in the near future tripartite consultations of the contact group meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, France, Germany and Russia, and in the future - the Summit of Heads of State and Government in Astana. "

Earlier, Moscow has repeatedly stated that it is not a party to the Ukrainian domestic conflict, and called on all external actors to influence the Kiev to perform Minsk Agreement . As reported, on the eve of the Russian leader Vladimir Putin proposed to President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the militia of the DNI and LC plan to divert heavy artillery from the territory of the South-East, but Kiev refused the offer , do not put forward any alternatives. http://www.vesti.ru/i/article_end.png) 0px 0px no-repeat;">

There's another parallel to WW1 and Germany, now Russia. At that time Germany, a relatively new country, was developing railroad links as far as Bagdad. This would have meant a loss of control of commerce to England. It was in England's best interest to destroy Germany. Today Russia is making similar move and is a threat to Western business controls.

"Things look very bad today and very intensive combat operations, in particular artillery strikes, are reported everywhere in Novorussia.  At the very least, in the following locations:

1) Donetsk Airport: the Ukrainians attacked with a fairly large concentration of armor and under heavy artillery fire.  As for tonight (local time) all of these attacks have been successfully repelled but intelligences sources are reporting a sharp rise in the number of tanks and armored vehicles all around the Donestk airport.  The Novorussians are expecting attacks from Peski and Avdeevka.

2) The Ukrainian artillery has opened for almost everywhere along the front.  The Ukrainian airforce has also dropped several 500kg bombs from high altitude on the city of Gorlovka.

3) Novorussian units are returning fire and the outskirts of Mariupol have come under Novorussian artillery attacks.

4) The Chairman of the Novorussian Parliament, Oleg Tsarev, has declared that his sources indicate that the Ukrainian plan submitted to Poroshenko looked at a spectrum of options: the best one was to totally free Novorussian from all Novorussians, the minimal one was to cut-off Donetsk from Luganks and both of these cities from the Russian border.

5) Plenty of US made weapons have been recovered in the New Terminal of the Donestk airport.

6) There are reports that the Ukrainian forces are attempting to encircle Debaltsevo.

7) Putin's spokesman Dmitrii Peskov has declared that the Ukrainian side had rejected all Russian offers and presented no counter-proposals.  He concluded that the Ukrainians have chose the option of going to war.

8) Please click here for an high res updated map of combats.

9) The Ukrainians are now accusing the Novorussians of using "super-weapons" in Peski.  No, no nuclear devices (as the Ukie defense minister claimed were used south of Lugansk), but heavy-flame throwers of the Buratino TOS-1 type.  The Ukies speak of a "bloodbath in Peski" which, as J.Hawk, the translator for ForRuss noticed, is a sure sign of panic.

10) Initial reports seem to indicate the the Novorussian military has entered the town of Peski.

11) The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the NAF, General Petrov, has declared that the Ukrainians have resumed ballistic missile strikes and that several Tochka missiles were fired today.

12) Zakharchenko has declared that "we are now engaged in a heavy counter-attack operation from Mariupol to Gorlovka".

Evaluation:

It appears certain is that Nazi junta as decided to resume combat operations.  Whether this is "an" attack or "the" attack remains to be seen, but the fact that ballistic missiles and bombers have been used seem to indicate that this one is qualitatively different.  My therefore leaning more towards the "the" attack option.

It is tough to gleen information about the current affairs in the Ukraine.  Many bloggers are now state western Ukraine are forcefully drafting men unless they can hand over 1000 bucks to stay out of the military otherwise your forced to join their militarry.  Eastern Ukraine is not doing this and are motivated to fight because they do not want to be apart of the illegal Kiev regime.

Atrocities from the Kiev forces are now popping up from some bloggers.  None of this can be verified.  The rebels are currently winning the minds fo the people as they are not rounding up people and shipping them into their military. Putin did indeed send a message to try and barter a cease fire deal that was ignored by Kiev.  That can be verified.

Remember Kiev is using older Russian howitzers and western ammunition is not compatible with these systems.  I am sure Russia will supply the rebels with all the ammunition they need to continue to press the attack.

The Western media seems to have all of this on blackout.  They do not want the pleebs to know that rebels are winning.  This would make NATO out to be fools.  I just pray this war will come to an end.  Alot of mothers and fathers are going to be burying their children all because a democratically elected government with 87% of the popular vote was over thrown because they did not want to join the EU. Of course the EU just wanted the pipelines for their energy needs and could care less about the Ukraine.  Ukraine finances made Greece look like a cake walk.

The assualt is likley forced onto Poroshenko. Ukraine's army was in no way ready for such a large scale offensive as is being tried. All along the front Ukraine's forces went over to the offensive against well prepared rebel defenses. Rumor all over Kiev is that the Right Wing is fed up with the war being run as a side show, the Right Front wants a war of destruction and elimination of Donbass. Poroshenko has not delivered anything since the mass defeat of the Ukrainian Army last summer. The rumor is the Right Sector will allow Poroshenko till around Fed 10th to gain a significant victory, or a Right Wing Coup in Kiev will remove in by violence. Porky knows this, the Rada has made clear they want a war victory.

The battle field is too confused right now, and much hangs in the balance. So I will not report victories or defeats till I get confirmations. Enough to say that after failures the last 24hours, the Ukrainian Army has unleashed everything they have in way of artillery at every town and city in range. Tank battlers and infantry battles rage right now, we need a few days to sort out how they go.

Two days ago, it was reported that "Serious Weapons" and some "Serious Men" had come to reinforce the rebel fighters. It is clear that these are rebels who have been organized and trained into units across the border in Russia, and they they accepted delivery of some modern hardware. This force is moving into battle now as the rebels mobile reserve force, freshly trained and organized, using top shelf weapons. How many have gone into battle already, nobody knows. But they are likely to give the Ukrainian Army a very, very bad time.

It's all up in the air for now.
