Americans Are 'Different' From The Rest Of The World

Tyler Durden's picture

In most wealthy countries, people tend to believe in evolution. But, as Vox.com notes, The US is an exceptional lonely dot far, far below the others, as this chart from the now-defunct webcomic Calamities of Nature shows:

How many Americans believe in evolution depends slightly upon how you frame the question. Tony Piro, who created this chart, used a question that refers to human beings developing "from earlier species of animals." Other polls that simply ask whether humans have evolved over time (without referring to animals) find a slightly higher percentage of Americans believing in evolution, around 60 percent. That would still make the US an outlier among rich countries, though.

First you want some type physical/ scientific explanation of how moral decisions are made, then you want me to prove to you something that should be friggin obvious, there is no physical aspect to consciousness.

The fundamental belief of the true "evolutionist" (materialist/naturalist) is that there is a physical cause of everything, which you have correctly pointed out makes no sense.  So the question to answer is from where did these non-physical attributes of humanity originate?  Emotions, consciousness, moral distinction etc. cannot be explained by an arbitrary arrangement of atoms.

When you accept the premise that the physical world cannot explain these things, then you must confront the reality of a creator or higher power, whatever form that takes for you.

I love how some people seem outright offended by the idea of evolution...the idea that they descended from an earlier animal is sooooo terrible to even ponder.

It falls right into the category of people who thought the sun just had to revolve around the earth because us humans are so damn evolved (If you'll forgive the term).

The reason people are offended is because it is so ludicrous, is scientifically unsubstantiated and furthermore is taught as fact to our children when it is nothing of the kind.

That is why.

Regardless of the limitations of Sciences (or even pseudosciences), they are infinitely superior to courtrooms as methods of establishing facts and proving theories.  OJ was innocent and the NYPD did not commit any crime in the homicide of Eric Gardner.  With a highly skilled lawyer and 12 members of the idiocrisy today - a jury made up entirely of blacks could find that blacks are inferior whites and thus in need of continued affirmative action... hardly a "fact", even if "proven" in a court of law.

I have no problem whatsoever studying the THEORY of evolution.

Problem is, too many people accept it as FACT, when next to nothing has been "proven" and never can be.

It takes a special kind of stupid to think that humans, raccoons and crocodiles are all somehow "related."

A fact is a true piece of information.  Usually, you can tell a fact because it is merely an observation or result that can be repeatedly demonstrated.  Water freezes if cold enough at low enough pressure.  Sun rises in the east.  Under certain circumstances, over thousands of generations, E. Coli develop the ability, not native to wild E. Coli, to use citrate for metabolism.  Repeatedly demonstrated results.

I am not changing the subject but simply want to understand from where this "genetic entity" originated.  What was the first cause?

We are either non-existant, we have always existed or we were created.  I know I exist, and I have not always existed (I was born) therefore I was created.  Who was the first human in this chain?  How and by whom or what?

This is a common misconception about theories.  A theory is not false because it fails to answer some questions.  When a theory fails to answer some questions, it is called "incomplete".  A theory is only false when a FACT is presented that contradicts the theory (or more precisely a prediction of the theory).  When a theory is proven false, the theory is changed to explain the new facts.  Until this happens, the theory is extended, consistent with available facts, to answer unanswered questions.  That is how science progresses.

Surely it should not be too much to ask that the proponents of this evolution thing produce at least one transitional fossil or species or the like? After all, Darwin himself said that the archeological record would be littered with such, and if they did not exist, well, then, he was probably wrong. (Or similar words to that effect.)

Consider belief in the International Building Code?

Fire resistance - Steel is inherently a noncombustible material. However, when heated to temperatures seen in a fire scenario, the strength and stiffness of the material is significantly reduced. The International Building Code requires steel be enveloped in sufficient fire-resistant materials, increasing overall cost of steel structure buildings.
