My daughter was home yesterday and probably will be again today as well as for MLK day. I had to ask why she was home yesterday and she told that it was for "teachers conference". That pisses me off because they had eleven days off during that holiday period. There were several days where there were no holidays of any sort where most people in the private sector had to work.
I would like to ask some questions here of the school board. What exactly is going on here at these school board meetings? Were there financial transactions being done that needed to be done in 2015? I have three Japanese, a Bulgarian, a Ukranian and a Russian who keep asking me to act on behalf of all of our children what to do because they want me to go and create an issue with the School Board, i.e. go to a meeting and speak on their behalf because I am an "American". They are all concerned because of their English and the accents they have. They believe that their accents are the problem. It is not but rather procedure. I am an elected delegate but not a representive of their local school board.
School board meetings are closed meetings and I am lost in translation explaining this to most Americans as well. I CAN NOT go into a closed meeting or the cops will show up. They do not understand this very well because they think that I can seriously fuck the system and I can given the right moment. I believe that we have to petition for an open floor hearing and that might be possible. I could make a list of the redress. The other thing to consider is that you don't need your kids in a state and fedral tax sponsored system anyway.
But they are correct to ask me and they do. If they are really serious, I could look for a copy of the by-laws of the local School Board and start studying that but I am tired of going it alone after everyone else bitched.

William, I don't know about doing the Public Fool System Challenge. It isn't me who wants to question this time.(although I would) It can't be me. I will help where I can. The only way to beat it is to become part of it. I turned down the nomination for MN Statist Representive before. What would would I really accomplish there? There are just too many other moronic state representatives there who have hands in someone's pockets.
I know what I would do but I be outvoted by a great deal. I would submit legislation that stated that we revue all of the current laws and vote on their valididty BEFORE ANY OTHER vote can be taken on a new statutory law. Or, if you are going to make a new law then you have to get rid of an old one at the least.

They keep it very quiet and it is hard to pick up these articles, but they are planning it, introducing legislation to enact it and eventually, get the technology to enforce it, believe it. And remember, California, is often used as a 'test' and it's not long, before other states jump on the band wagon and then the Feds. So don't be fooled into thinking it won't happen there.

The Brown administration will be sponsoring legislation this year to streamline the process for local transportation agencies to approve toll lanes.
Under the bill, local authorities could more easily convert carpool lanes into toll lanes, but also could create new "user fee" stretches along California's highways. Revenue from the tolls would be managed by local authorities, and could go toward improving adjacent roadways, on ramps and possibly even adding new transit service.
The legislation, expected to be included in the group of bills that make up the 2015-16 state of California budget, is informed by recent recommendations from the California State Transportation Agency.
"The governor has opened the door to an important conversation about an ongoing stable source of transportation revenue to deal with our deferred maintenance problem," said State Transportation Secretary Brian Kelly.
The expansion of toll lanes is one of the administration's answers to California's decaying infrastructure. Most of California's highway system was built in the post-World War II era and is nearing the end of its lifecycle, Kelly said. An infrastructure plan released earlier this month by the administration reports that the state spends approximately $412 million on highway maintenance each year when over $1 billion is needed. [Pfft! That's a drop in the bucket. California spends over $94 BILLION Dollars on "Health and Human Services". Where does it say, that I have to pay for somebody else's care and feeding?]
The state transportation agency also seeks ways to generate more revenue with fees attached to vehicle miles traveled rather than taxes on gasoline. The transportation agency is now experimenting with various technologies to gauge roadway use using global positioning systems, and weighing the use of those technologies with privacy concerns, said Kelly. A pilot program measuring roadway use will be wrapping up in the next couple years, Kelly said.

Could not believe that he painted such a rosy "everything is awesome!" picture, but it is par for the course.

Some years ago, I went to my cousin's wedding on the West coast and I noticed something about the guests that was eerie to me. As some of you know, I live in the UK and we're not really into the flag waving jingoism that seems to afflict the majority of the American populace. I mean, I often remark that America is the only country I know on the planet where its citizens raise their national flags in front of their own houses. I don't understand it and I wonder if it is because they are confused about which country they are living in and need a daily reminder?
Anyway back to the wedding. The vast majority of the men and women were wearing wavy lapel pins of the US flag, some combined with other discrete pins of military or federal origin. Since then, I noticed that most of the politicians in the US do it too. For a nation that supposedly celebrates individualism, they sure seemed to like uniformity, and of a kind that was very popular during the Nazi era in Germany when these symbols of national allegiance were de rigueur. I suspect that, in line with all the physical apparatus of fascism in government, many Americans are well versed with the psychological aspects too.
These are just my impressions from an outsider's pov.

It simply means patriotism in the form of aggressive foreign policy which I cannot abide whoever does it - my own country included. Love of one's country should not mean hatred of others. Both the Union Jack & the US Flag are provincial symbols of the oppressive Federal Union that have been historically forced upon proudly independent people. I don't feel the need to shove my flag of oppression in the faces of others to feel good about the land and the people with whom I identify.
