Bill Proposed To Allow Voting Without US Citizenship

Tyler Durden's picture

Once upon a time, there was a saying "no taxation without representation." Well, in America's transition to an utopia of French or even Venezuelan caliber, for half the population taxation became an anachronism from a bygone era, which in turn meant that representation likewise lost its charm. However, in order to preserve a political system in which the votes of the many are bought with the money of the few or, as the case may be these days, with money printed out of thin air by the Federal Reserve, there was one bureaucratic hurdle: one still needed a US passport in order to vote. However if a newly introduced bill in Washington D.C. passes, one won't even need to be a citizen in order to vote in local elections.

According to the Washington Times, the Local Resident Voting Rights Act of 2015 would allow D.C. residents who are not U.S. citizens but meet the federal definition of having permanent residency status to cast ballots in local elections, including races for mayor and the D.C. Council as well as initiatives and charter referendums. D.C. Council member David Grosso, at-large independent, introduced the legislation Tuesday.

In a statement announcing the introduction of the bill, Mr. Grosso cited statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau that indicate the District is home to nearly 54,000 foreign-born residents who are not naturalized U.S. citizens.

“These are taxpayers who should have the opportunity to have their voices heard in local elections,” he said.

Similar bills were unsuccessfully introduced in 2013 by Mr. Grosso, and in 2004 by then-D.C. Council member Jim Graham.

Neighboring Takoma Park also allows non-U.S. citizens to vote in local elections.

So first one just has to be a permanent resident, then how long until that is diluted to "just a resident", whether legal or illegal. And finally, how long until even illegal immigrant are allowed to vote for president? After all, that would be the endgame for any administration that believes it can buy votes by the million for pennies on the dollar. Thus, ideally, votes of illegal immigrants. Those come cheap.

Seen in this light, Obama's recent "immigration reform" granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants suddenly makes all the sense in the world.

Sure there is. How do you think Clinton got elected with less than 50% of the vote?

We can have a democrat, a republican and a libertarian running for office and a conservative will never be seated again in public office.

The election law should prevent any more that two people running for any office. It should be done through a series of runoffs until there are only two left with the dominant votes. It is not right that one perspective can have a majority support yet lose the election to a minority perspective simply because the majority vote was split by two candidates. If the runoff process was allowed to happen we would not see as much resistance to alternative party candidates by the primary parties. As it is, they are always a significant threat due to dilution.

I don't think the proposal is that unreasonable.

How about we let green cards vote for $100 per election?

How about we let everyone vote for $100/ballot, limit 25, first one free to registered citizens, your money back if not satisfied, and a set of steak knives if you buy five in advance.

I didn't say income - said pay income tax. Big difference. How does a guy who "owns" property and pays no income tax and is a net recipient of government payments rate higher than a renter who pays net into the coffers? You're either pulling the sled or enjoying the ride.

Wed, 01/21/2015 - 22:41 | 5690923 Oldwood

So property taxes don't count? You can pay mine. How is a property owner "a net recipient of government payments"? Did I miss out on another give away?

Simply paying taxes is not an adequate reason for voting. Yes it is a consideration, but our primary issue is "ownership". Do illegals who work here for two years have ownership of this country. Will they even speak English? will they ever become legal citizens? Does it matter if anyone can come here and lay claim to what they will and we have nothing to say about it? They can vote in laws giving themselves legal status? Who's fucking country is this,,,or is it just a roadside rest stop with pay toilets?

We should all have a direct vote in every decision that effects you individually.  We no loner need representatives, they are in the way and we can make better decisions.  If you are not effected by a proposed law, you should be allowed to vote on it.  If you don't own property you should be able to vote on taxing property.

If your government treats you like property, that is what you are.

I came to the US on a green card and couldn't vote (or own a gun) until I was naturalized. That all seemed perfectly reasonable to me and I don't see why the rules should be changed. In the process of naturalization, I was required to study the history of the US and it was then that I discovered the the Constitution of the United States - that work of unmatched genius which separates the US from every other country in the world. I was proud and happy to change from being a 'subject of her majesty' to being a 'citizen'. However, since then (it was many years ago), I have watched in dismay as the Constitution has been ignored, usurped, and betrayed by our 'leaders' in Washington. The 'Great Experiment' is much too valuable to be betrayed by statist scum. To be an American is special. The Bill of Rights is unique. We must defend it at all costs from all enemies foreign and domestic.

Clearly Mr Grosso has not looked at the tax stats lately.  50% of the 'taxpayers' actually pay negative taxes, meaning they get paid by the government (with other peoples' money) just for filing.  Between food stamps, unemployment, aid to dependent children, rent support, earned income credit, credit for voting Democrat, etc, these 'taxpayers' get money back at tax time.  So don't call them taxpayers; the term is tax takers.  So we should let them vote for more socialist 'income distribution' programs?  We already have more takers than payers.  The only thing holding up this ponzi is the Fed's printing press, continually expanding the debt and debasing the money, while funneling all net GDP to the banks and the government.  What a plan.  Treason is still a crime against the citizens, and it starts with the Fed.

@Mandel Bot:  you should have studied the second constitution (of the United States of America).  Since the 14th Amendment, the original Constitution has become irrelevant, as it does not apply to 'US citizens,' who are actually debt slaves in voluntary contract with the corporation known at the United States of America, Inc.  Welcome to the USSA, 'citizen.'

I would add that we should also allow those who are impacted by ALL the policies of our elected elite the power to vote, not just taxation.  After all they too are affected by the results.

Give the vote to Pakistani's, Yemani's, Somali's, Iraqi's, Afghani's and all those subject to drone stikes (ordered by same elected officials) and I'm all in!
