A Billionaire Lectures Serfs In Davos: "America's Lifestyle Expectations Are Far Too High"

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Mike Krieger via Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

If you listened closely this morning, you could hear humanity vomit as JP Morgan CEO, Jamie Dimon, began to speak at Davos. In what amounted to some of the most egotistical and delusional statements heard at a conference filled with egotistical and delusional participants, Mr. Dimon didn’t disappoint. Here are a couple highlights courtesy of Twitter:

Such shameless insincerity would even make his Best Banker Buddy (BBB) Barry Obama blush. I don’t know about you, but I’m eagerly awaiting Mr. Dimon’s 2028 Presidential run with Chelsea Clinton as running mate.

But I digress. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, it has. Enter billionaire Jeff Greene, who’s comments at Davos make Sam Zell look enlightened.

From Bloomberg:

Billionaire Jeff Greene, who amassed a multibillion dollar fortune betting against subprime mortgage securities, says the U.S. faces a jobs crisis that will cause social unrest and radical politics.

“America’s lifestyle expectations are far too high and need to be adjusted so we have less things and a smaller, better existence,” Greene said in an interview today at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “We need to reinvent our whole system of life.”

Wait a minute, “we” need to reinvent our whole system of life? I’m curious, Mr. Greene, how specifically will YOU be adjusting your lifestyle expectations? I didn’t think so. Kindly shut the fuck up.

Greene, who flew his wife, children and two nannies on a private jet plane to Davos for the week, said he’s planning a conference in Palm Beach, Florida, at the Tideline Hotel called “Closing the Gap.” The event, which he said is scheduled for December, will feature speakers such as economist Nouriel Roubini.

Apologies, it appears when it comes to Jeff Greene, he is adjusting his expectations in the opposite direction, upward. Jewish Business News reports that:

Billionaire Jeff Greene really does believe that he can get $195 million for his California estate, which just so happens to be the most expensive listing for a residential property in American history.

The 59 year old made his money by betting against the subprime mortgage market that burst in 2008. But many observers think that the $195 million price tag on the Beverly Hills property is just a type of marketing gimmick and that Greene does not honestly expect to get that much money for it.

Greene dispelled these rumors in an interview with the New York Times. “When you consider the value of the land and the quality of the construction. $195 million is really quite reasonable,” he said.

Oh, but there’s more. When Mr. Greene had the audacity to run for the U.S. Senate in Florida back in 2010, salacious details about what went onboard his yacht came out. While I don’t care what he or his friends do in their spare time, this doesn’t seem to vibe with the idea of Americans lowering their lifestyle expectations, does it?

From the Huffington Post:

Working on Greene’s 145-foot Choy Lee yacht was like being “locked” in Studio 54 in its prime. It was nothing short of, “Sex, Drugs, and Techno Music.” Celebrities, “hired” party girls, mayhem, and debauchery. I saw more tits and ass in one night on Jeff Greene’s Summerwind than I have for the past seven years on South Beach.

Greene attempted to dispel reports of the alleged partying that went down on his boat earlier this week.

“When I’m on my boat, we’re kayaking, we’re scuba diving, there’s no wild parties,”said the Senate hopeful at a press conference. “I think that people are trying to associate time I’ve been on my boat when I’ve had some different kinds of colorful guests. They’re trying to associate me with that. But, look, I’m a 55-year-old man. I’m not a partier.”

The “colorful people” alluded to by Greene could include Lindsay Lohan, whoreportedly spent time on the yacht in St. Barth’s last New Year’s Eve, and former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson, who has reportedly partaken in vibrant festivities aboard the vessel.

Peach recalls, “Mike Tyson got on board sometime in late August. I particularly remember serving Tyson a vodka and Red Bull while he was receiving oral sex from a hired entertainer.”

Tyson, now sober, offered a detailed account of time he spent on Greene’s yacht to Sports Illustrated last month.

“This [drug dealer] goes and gets me a big rock of cocaine,” he said. “So pretty soon I got a party going on. I got everything: I got these rugby players. I got these naked girls, I got all these … everything’s going on in the room.”

Now back to the Bloomberg article:

The billionaire said he’s planning on having dinner tonight with former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair, and will attend several private meals and parties throughout the week.

It’s no surprise that such a disingenuous guy would find the time to have dinner with Tony Blair, a celebrated crony capitalist and war criminal. Here are a few Tony Blair lowlights I have showcased previously:

Amen Mr. Greene...words of wisdom indeed.

Most of the participants in this forum can easily be associated to Leo Strauss' Vulgar Many

the vulgar many, are lovers of wealth and pleasure. They are selfish, slothful, and indolent. They can be inspired to rise above their brutish existence only by fear of impending death or catastrophe.

Hate to say it, but yes, a lot of people on this forum have a collectivist trait that can't be denied.

The guy has a shit-ton of money, great!!!, good for him. He throws wild parties? sweet!!! wish he invited me. He says stupid things like 99.9% of the people, what's the problem? I know, the problem is that he's billionaire, he has a big yacht, private jet, a big mansion. Well, I'm sorry for the butthurts but, unless news of criminal behavior, he earned his money fair and square. In spite of what many minions here think the stock market is, it doesn't give something for free.

Different thing is the FIAT money scam. Although, you shouldn't blame the SMART people who benefit from it, but the IDIOTS who facilitate it. Or in other words, the "voters" who keep giving powers and attributions to politicians and bureaucrats. How do they call those? yes, the unwashed masses, and that's exactly what they are (hate me commies). "Yay, I'll vote for Romey/Obama/Ron Paul/Hillary/McCain because she/he will do these wonderful things FOR ME: cut/raise taxes, improve my economic situation printing money, protect me killing the 'bad' guys, give me FREE education/healthcare/cell phones, and so on and on and on..." IDIOT; yes you fool, they will do all those things FOR YOU. Democracy: where murder, rape, robbery, kidnapping, and so forth is good as long as the majority says so.

/end rant

Sorry ~ I posted this later in the thread, but it's better suited here [whereby 'Multi' has seen fit to grace us with his insights].

But the TRUTH is that this wasn't just a 'wow ~ I could have had a V-8' revelation. I mean, I'm sure there were many who bet against subprime and lost their asses in the process.

Penciling this guy in as the #WINNER, in my book, is akin to calling Larry Silverstein a genius for:

- Getting his hands on a [formerly publicly run] property arguably worth 3.5 billion

- for only $15 million invested

- That was scheduled for a multi billion dollar renovation to remove asbestos

- Where Marvin Bush was a head of security

- & insure it, specifically for terrorist attacks

- which ended out paying out DOUBLE [though it should have not been considered that way]

- & getting those buildings demolished only weeks later

- and having a new building constructed, at the public expense

- Yet the new building LEASES remain in private hands

I guess Silverstein is just a genius or something. Kudos to him right?

"unless news of criminal behavior, he earned his money fair and square."

No news... yet... ticktockticktock...

"In spite of what many minions here think the stock market is, it doesn't give something for free."

Quite right ~ Now let's see, Swiss Re & Munich Re were 'on the hook' for the $7 billion that Silverstein & friends collected. Gee ~ I hope your 401k monkey manager didn't have you in any of those. & WOW! Besides airline stocks, both those re-insurers were heavily shorted in the run up to 9/11. Some 'gained & lost' on those too, though I suspect its probably easier to list who PROFITED than who lost.

Nothwithstanding ALL OF THE ABOVE ~ The point here is that even if this jerkoff is a saint [whereby there are numerous anecdotes to suggest he's NOT], the main point is that said "jerkoff", now, is standing up in front of a podium of his new BFF's, in whose hands 'most' of the world is held hostage, talking about how the 'serfs' they control need to eat more fucking peas.

FUCK YOU!

absolutely no doubt

What's fucking hilarious to me is that this guy is speaking in front of a DAVOS crowd about American's 'lifestyle expectations'.

It is these very 'lifestyle expectations' that the DAVOS ilk have worked extensively to cultivate over the past 100 years by way of:

- Hollywood

- Pop Music

- all the MK Ultra shit

- Free Shit Army

- Endless Wars & "Thank You for your Service" bullshit

- American [non]Exceptionalism

- soccer moms & SUV's

- Phony 'Global Warming' fearmongering

- University of Phoenix/ITT Tech/Strayer College 'hang urself for life with some worthless diploma'

- Get on the debt hamster wheel  or you're considered a 'mentally ill' terrorist

It starts with the first Disney cartoon & box of Sugar Pops that a toddler eats & follows them cradle to grave [even when they try to tune it out]. And now this @sshole wants to 'tut-tut' the serfs and THEIR expectations.

JFC ~ give it a rest!

The underlying problem...we want to blame those who are smart enough to figure out the game,,,how to profit from the mass's stupidity or just simple genetic coding that allows us to ALWAYS fall for the same trick. Something for nothing...the fast buck, any fucking lie that tells us we can get more for less. We have been successfully marketed to, to expect..no, demand more for less. And we will support ANYONE, from the devil on up to the saint, who will promise it to us. This Greene fuck figured it out, he saw what was coming, not just fucked government policies but the people, the fucking sheep, lining up for the "free" this  and their "low interest" that and their "no down" the other. Yes he saw it and made big, just like Kyle Bass. The difference is he's rubbing our faces in it, but still he speaks the truth. That's the one thing that being filthy rich gets you....the ability to speak the truth.

We know the truth. We know that everything is going to get worse because their is nothing to make it better. Only higher expectations..or demands...for more while doing less. "We the people" don't care if they are cutting our limbs from our bodies and feeding them to us, as long as we believe the lies, that it will be all right in the morning. Everyone is bemoaning the fact of how hard they must work, yet none wants to acknowledge how hard previous generations had to work. My father shucked corn by hand for 25 cents a day including room and board when he was young. Who the fuck here has done ANYTHING like that? And why do we think we deserve more? Because some smart rich fucks figured it out? How many enlightened geniuses here think THEY are smart and that THEY are going to get rich off of some PM run up, or other financial bet. People don't want to work harder. They want something for nothing because that is the one thing that makes them feel smart. And they HATE anyone else who has been proven smarter.

Look at the hate for the jews. Everyone complains about how so very few can gain control of so much. That is is some big conspiracy against non jews. And so it may be, but how? How did they trick us. For the most part they have not put a gun to our head. They have figured us out..outsmarted us. It seems that simple to me. And if they must tolerate, we, the losers, bitching and moaning about how evil they are, they seem to handle it in stride.

Why the fuck can't each of us actually learn something. Rather than simply killing or punishing those who we must acknowledge as being smarter than most, why can't we strive to be smarter instead of falling into the same bullshit paradigm that has existed from the beginning of time. Like "eat the rich" has ever been a solution.

Those at the top are not stupid. As they have done in the past, they will continue to observe and anticipate us. They will offer us more of what we already possess, taking ever greater percentages of it until there simply is no more. Maybe they are evil, but that evil resides in all of us and will appear when the time comes.Lets not perpetuate it further.

The answer is to simply not play the game. To not participate in our own demise. It's not easy and I don't have the answers. I'm just another dumb working schmuck, but I think I do see the bigger picture. Lets figure it out. This cycle needs to end and it can only happen through a more complete and universal awareness of what exactly IS in our own best interest. Until we understand that our personal interests define our collective interests, we will continually be fucked by those who drive us like sheep, who will educate..indoctrinate us, to believe that our path to utopia comes in the form of sacrificing our self interest for the collective... to them. Buy what we are told to buy and surrender what we are told to surrender. We set out deer feeders  for what purpose? Because we love deer,,, or like their taste on the grill?

Wisdom has existed from the beginning of time, yet lives in the shadows for no one wants to hear or see it until its too late. We all know what it is and it always circles about one truth...THERE IS NOTHING FREE. Anyone who offers it to you is trying to rob you. And our central self absorbed interest is about how we see ourselves and how others see us, and all of us wants to feel smart, and smart is getting something for nothing. It is what has driven greed, but also technology. As someone who has worked with my hands, building things, I can tell you that automation is ALL about something for nothing. The leveraging of yourself to create more with less effort. At some point we will only be satisfied if we can lay in our bed and simply dream about work and still get it done. What a mess.

you may not like him, but his words are true, and truth is all that matters.

america has indeed binged and partied like it's 1999, lived an extravagant lifestyle beyond its means, based on cheap and easy credit.

america and the west have indeed been living a lie, like a financial illiterate who's maxed out his credit cards and has reached the end of his rope.

it doesn't even matter if you believe him or not, the chickens are coming home to roost anyhow.

There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as the result of voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved.

I got up at 0300 this morning and realized I was running low on cigarettes- so I jumped in the car and headed off to the 7-11 in the nearest town.  The 5-lane roads, shop and streetlights that illuminate NOTHING - it is UNSUSTAINABLE.  It was financed by cheap FRB petrodollar credit.  What goods and services does SW Virginia produce and export to the rest of the world?

I covered the same distance as the commute to Zurich Airport from my primary residence -  more people producing far more and basically dark unlit 2-lane roads at night.  Perhaps Mr. Greene should try driving from Davos to Saas at 3 in the morning to better understand what sustainable looks like.

Without US perpetuation of the unsustainable- Mr. Greene would not be a billionaire, and the two most likely paths forward are either Mr. Greene lays off some nannies and accepts the lifestyle of a mere millionare, or his head and his wallet are rehypothecated by either the State or the masses to perpetuate the unsustainable status quo just a little bit longer.

It's not just the masses who have to readjust their expectations, because their meager slice of the pie CANNOT underwrite the status quo.  Perhaps Mr. Greene should have been telling his buddies - pay up or shut up.

You missed noting that he (and his ilk) were not just betting with others "money" (miniscule "Mates Rates" via their abundant connections), but also having the advantage of all the right "inside connections" (not "Insider Dealing" per se., but as effective in risk reduction), to ensure their "bets" always were winners.

Notice how most (not all) members of this very exclusive "Billionaires Club" seem to have provided us lesser mortals with no real "value" in return; genuine "Added Value" innovation is now so last century. They make the rules and we play by them. Why do we do that? Most of these rules are moral rules, not enforceable by laws, and are not the rules THEY live by. We can only combat this by demonstrating that we will only play by the rules that THEY play by.

I'm not for living an immoral life as I do think our morals have great value, it just that we cannot fight a war against an opponent that doesn't follow the same rules.

We simply do not buy what they are selling. And I'm not talking coffee. I'm talking their bullshit of something for nothing, be it through debt, through redistribution, or through destruction of our environment for short term benefits. Every cost of this system is borne by the future. None of it is pay as you go, and as such allows the greatest corruption and theft the world has ever seen.

Scarcely an original thought, top heavy with ad hominem.  I'm no Republican, and even more "liberal" than most here [though still, I think, too anti-statist and Constitutionalist to be a progressive...whatever that means, I want progress too, just not at the barrel of a gun held by twats] but whenever anyone spends half their time name-calling, and spends most of the half regurgitating talking points, you have to fear that mass media is literally, no kidding, training people to not think.

Years ago I adopted a rule - for every new thing I bring into the house I have to throw out 2. Since then I've eliminated a lot of things I thought I couldn't do without and I couldn't be happier. I'm also not so eager to shop, as instead of thinking what to get, I am busy contemplating what I have to give up and whether it's worth it. I remember a time when I could carry all of my life's possessions in a backpack. I was poor, but I was free. I could go anywhere I wanted and I did.

Now I have a family. I'm tied down to a place, but I'm restoring my mobility gradually. My only valuable possessions are a hard drive full of personal memorabilia (wouldn't trust a dog's name to cloud storage) and a can opener that's been in my family since 1953. Still as sharp as the day it was made. If there was a fire, those would be the only 2 items I'd grab.

You had me at can opener. :).

Seriously, that is a most ingenius and unique rule you've got there about throwing out 2 for every new thing. I'm not sure how that would work for me in practice (I'm a bit of a hoarder), but it is a terribly attractive proposition to be so unencumbered by material possessions. I might have a go at it too - the rule will certainly pare down my possessions to the necessary and useful over time. Thanks.

> 1700 private jets flew into Davos......and they were whining about climate change.

OK, from a previous ZH article, seems many were Gulfstreams, so for "back of envelope" purposes, let's assume they were "all" Gulfstreams:

Gulfstream burn rates are about 358 gallons / hour Jet A, http://jetadvisors.com/gulfstream-g550-performance/ so our "1700" Gulfstreams could have consumed 1700 x 380 = 646,000 gallons / hour. A Boeing 747/400 uses about 3,600 gallons per hour (1 US Gallon per second) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/united-mileage-plus-pre-merger-closed-posting/438622-how-much-gas-s-does-ua-747-consume-typical-usa-oz-flight.html

So our "environmentally concerned" super elite were happy to use the same amount of Jet A (calculated on an hourly basis) as almost 180 Jumbo Jets, with a total seating capacity of well over 97,000 (at a nominal seating capacity of 544 per 747 - http://www.airliners.net/aircraft-data/stats.main?id=100 ) versus the "usual" 16 seats per Gulfstream ( http://jetadvisors.com/gulfstream-g550-cabin/ ), providing for a max 27,200 available seats, YET the World Economic Forum only mentions about 2,500 delegates . . . One hopes "they" have substantial entourages to make up for this remarkable 25,000 seat "excess available capacity" (in the order of ten "excess seats" per Delegate) ;-))

Methinks a rather clear case of "Do as we say, not as we do" here . . . . .

A pretty good and efficient transport system so I'm told by many who have used it. Good safety record (per user km) and provides affordable long-distance mass-transit to those thousands of smaller communities not served by the Rail network.

http://www.jaunted.com/files/6193/GreyhoundExp.jpg, with pretty OK seating too! http://gqtrippin.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/greyhound.jpg

One final "advantage" - when those coaches reach the end of their commercial life - thay often have a "Rebirth" as pretty impressive RVs - http://www.premiermotorcoach.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/1999-Prevost-Premier-Motorcoach-Custom-Conversion.jpg

What'a the reason, that Greene has a platform to give a speech. It's just the money he made by gambling. So money entitles this guy to give a speech about sustainability? Yeah, quite logical to me. Especially because he stands on high moral ground to give advises like that...oh wait.

Slaves should have much, much less so that masters can have even moar! One way to do that is tax everyone else moar while tax zero percent on billionares.

So the guy hits the sub-prime lottery which lets the true sociopathic colors shine.

How quaint.

In other news, Kyle Bass made the same trip and hasn't turned into a pompous ass. Quite the contrary.

These turkies go to 'Davos' every year to get attention that they are unable to get at home. I don't recall any intelligent statement that has ever manifested out of that largesse since it has become a media event

every year? Davos is a Dog N' Pony for FMs and their respective hookers and drug dealers, jet pilots, and hangers on.

The RBA is actively selling excess reserves, and I have proof! The Royal Bank of Australia is liquidating excess reserves to devaluate the Australian Dollar.

The RBA is converting S/T bond holdings into their originating currencies. The RBA is actively intervening in the currency markets.

This means the RBA is NOT going to lower rates next week.

No doubt the Aussie dollar is strong.  Are you going to trade that one?  I have always been curious about FX but aside from maybe $50 AUS dollars in plastic cash I am not in.  What currency are you trading against the AUS dollar?  I know the basics as the Russian ruble is important to me but most Russians hold their reserves in a USD or EUR.  Of course the EUR is losing it's ass and it is making the USD look strong at 94.39 at the moment but T-bond yields were down today.  If your interest rate is lowered how can the value of your currency go up?  I suppose it is a demand issue but who is buying?  It ain't me.

If he made his money on a good bet and wants to live it up, so what? not the same as the banksters who privatize their profits but are able to peddle influence and money and socialize their losses at our expense. I do not see it as hypocrisy in stating the obvious, if you do not have the money do not become a zombie to the cult of consumerism and debt, it diminishes the quality of your existence.

If he bet against sub primes,he was betting against Americans WHO WERE EXPECTING TOO MUCH for such little skin in the house buying game. He might be a.pompous old lech but he was right about Americans living beyond their means - on borrowed money, including especially National Debt.
