When police pensions and jobs dissappear our leaders will finally realise the mistake they made allowing them to have access to everyones personal and financial information.

There are hundreds of instances every year of "officers" usurping the powers of prosecutors, judges, juries AND exectioners and they execute those powers with complete impunity. Even more amazing is that this nation puts up with this naked criminality.
It will only get worse as the next financial and social crisis draw near. 2008 woke up the Government to the needs for social crack downs when job loss and severe austerity sweep the country after the next full on financial disaster. Militarized cops exist for a reason, they have armored vehicles, assult weapons and gas for a reason. I offer you the chance to try an protest next time the economy thorws millions onto the street. They will bust your head and they do have all those FEMA camps built already.
I am wondering what the local scene is out in North Dakota's oil patch now? The job losses have just begun. What does ND do with 50K unemployed former major red neck tough guy whites when their big money jobs evoporate and they all pack major heat. Could be a cops worst nightmare. Imagine you come to serve papers on one of these guys at his trailor house, papers that repo his truck and also hand him child support notice from the ex, all in one day! Gonna be some real social strees when the ladies find out their men ain't got no 75K a year job on a rig.
The problem with that kind of thinking (the government's, not yours,) is that when supply chains really start to break, the cops won't stay on the streets for long. Even if they could and did, when they came out in force, that means that they are not going to be in other areas. Do you want to go toe-to-toe with a Bearcat or an MRAP, or do you want to go after police infrastructure elsewhere? If it comes down to a complete Nazi crackdown, your options are to bug out and wait for it to collapse, or to hit them where they are weak and you are strong. Be where they aren't and hit what they need and let those who wish to take off the uniform and disappear of their own will.
If the 'problem' is economic collapse then even the government will eventually have trouble paying its stooges. Sure they can produce green paper for a while but soon it will be worthless and then even the most loyal public servants will be forced to take care of their own. One hears of countries where the police go unpaid with other government workers but either they are holding out for a better outcome or theyare working a protection racket. ie Cops go Familia.
The Mexican model is probably what we will see when TSHTF unless Goldman and JPM are successful in their NeoLib endeavour to privatize the nation's law enforcement through thousands of IPO's...

The second catalyst in Cops having more rights than us is the jury. The choking case in NY was a jury decision not to charge the cop in an obvious crime caught on film. So people get out and protest the Cops, how about your idiot neighbors instead. The powerful own the legal system and have willful idiots do their bidding in the juror box, of which is our last place to exercise power. Jury nullification is mightier than the corrupt attorney, judge, and lobbiest.
The system will never knowingly allow a fully informed juror, let alone enough of them sitting on a high profile case to make a difference.....

Finally, the guy straightened up, strapped his seatbelt on, fired the engine and began to pull away. The cop tailed him; turned his blinkers and siren on. The guy pulled to the side immediately, pulled out his licence and waited. The cop sauntered over, glanced at his licence, read him his rights then administered a breathalyser test. The results showed zero. Angry and puzzled, the piggie yelled out loud, "what the ff ... how could THAT be!" The guy shrugged, "Tonight I'm the designated decoy, officer."
