Blowout Victory For Syriza In Greek Elections: Live Webcasts

Tyler Durden's picture

UPDATE 3: With over 96% of precincts reporting, it looks like Syriza will end up with 149 seat in Parliament, just 2 shy of an absolute majority, although already several of the parties that are entering parliament have vocied their intention to allign with Syriza, so it will hardly be a significant hindrance to Tsipras to conduct whatever anti-Troika policy he wishes.

UPDATE 2:

UPDATE: Greek Government official admits electoral defeat by Syriza

As AP reports,

A senior official in Greece's governing conservatives has conceded defeat to the radical left Syriza party in Sunday's national elections.

"We lost," Health Minister Makis Voridis told private Mega TV. "The extent of that result is not yet clear."

Voridis, the conservative party's parliamentary spokesman, says the government's austerity policies, implemented to secure vital international bailouts, "make sense" but were cut short before they could bear fruit.

An exit poll on state Nerit TV projects Syriza winning by a wide margin.

*  *  *

The first Greek exit polls are out and here they are:

According to the initial exit polls, in first place, with some 35.5%-39.5% of the vote is Syriza, a huge lead over the second placing New Democracy which has 23-27% of the vote - far more than polls had indicated previously - and a spot which essentially  assures Tsipras' party an absolute majority in parliament and the ability to take as hardline an approach as he wishes.

The other parties:

  • Golden Dawn nationalists: 6.4-8.0%
  • The new party, To Potami, also with : 6.4-8.0%
  • Venizelos' socialist Pasok: 4.2%-5.2%
  • KKE: 4.7%-5.7%
  • Independent Greeks: 3.5%-4.5%
  • Knima: 2.2%-3.2%: probably not enough to pass the 3.0% threshold

How the parliament breakdown would look like with these numbers: SYRIZA has a 12.5 percentage point lead over New Democracy and is expected to get between 146 and 158 seats in Parliament, according to the exit polls.

  • SYRIZA 152 (146-158)
  • ND 70 ( 65- 75)
  • Golden Dawn 19.5 ( 17- 22)
  • POTAMI 19.5 ( 17- 22)
  • KKE 14.5 ( 13- 16)
  • PASOK 13.5 ( 12- 15)
  • ANEL 11.5 ( 10- 13)
  • KINIMA ( 0- 8)

A second take on what Greek parliament would look like also gives Syriza an almost certain majority:

A quick observation:

In short: if nothing changes drastically from here, a blowout victory for Syriza is essentially assured, one which gives it an absolute majority.

We'll see the SHTF when the FED loses its ability to distort the Economy.  Not sure when that will happen, but 10-15 years seems most plausible.  My 2 cents is that hyperinflation (on food and consumer goods) combined with negative interest rates will finally wake the sheeple up from their slumber.  When this occurs, Rick Santelli will bludgeon Steve Liesman to death on air.

It will be inflation or deflation that kills the dollar. Before inflation can happen, trust in the dollar has to evaporate. While it keeps its cleanest dirty shirt reputation, that won't happen. While other major currencies continue to crumble against the dollar, the dollar will remain a store of value in this scenario. But if it goes down the inflation route, the firestorm of the currencies will be one for the books.

Deflation is the more interesting route to the demise of the dollar. The central banks are on the verge of losing control over the behavior of money in the world economy because they have leveraged up beyond the credibility of their debt, and bubbles blown in asset classes everywhere (except for PMs) are starting to burst, because there are no underlying fundamentals to shore up irrational values. Book values are where a lot of this excess money is stored, and it is simply going to evaporate, strengthening the deflationary impulse at just about the same time everyone finally realizes that growth has been strangled to death. Absent growth in real and/or nominal value, our financial system implodes.

You really think it will take that long?!  I give America 6-8 months before SHTF.

The following passage was published in 1977...

"During the last few years on the contemporary War on Gold there have been price upswings touching 35 percent per annum in Europe and 10 percent per annum in the United States. The depression of 1974-1975 generated cracks in the illiquid debt structure - most obviously in the real estate and banking sectors. In the years ahead, subsequent boom-and-depression cycles will have even greater amplitude, with double digit price increases (including double digit interest rates), followed by the complete collapse of the debt pyramid.

For individuals, hyperinflation and the collapse of some sectors will breed a suave qui peut attitude; there will be a mad scramble for Gold and other tangible wealth. Holders of paper money will follow Tom Paine's injunction of two hundred years ago:

The question for the people to ask, and the only question, is this: whether the quantity of Bank Notes, payable on demand, which the Bank has issued, be greater than the Bank can pay off in Gold and Silver.

...

The foregoing discussion does not explain why the United States decided to declare war on Gold. Perhaps the U.S. now has no alternative, given the impending collapse of the debt structure. Be that as it may, the essential reason is more probably is that as far back as 1913 (and maybe before), the Wall Street  Establishment had well-defined ideas about the kind of world it wanted to achieve with its financial power. The pattern for a New World Order, the Rockefeller-Wall Street plan for international power fueled by dollar imperialism, is now taking shape. The Soviet Union has been reduced to the role as a technical captive.

War On Gold, Antony C. Sutton, Copyright 1977

Same as it ever was?

Sutton predicted collapse in that book in 1980. It was narrowly avoided.

Volcker pulled off a trick last time which is not available today. Back in 1977 the USA was the World's Largest Creditor Nation. We do not have that luxury this time.

But that book was published 37 years ago. The scale of the magnitudes have grown by at least an order of magnitude if not more.

It can take a lot longer than you think..Just be aware. Personally I am inclined to agree with you on this point as I do not believe that we will see the end of the year before meltdown.

But, then, I may be mistaken.

Sun, 01/25/2015 - 20:47 | 5704191 Lore

Fair point. I have read other alarmist pieces from the 1970s about the Money Masters that likewise illustrate causal relationships without providing a clear timeline. But again, their focus is on systemic issues while failing to address overlapping drivers and scams like Agenda 21, imperialism, geostrategy, "Gardening," and darker factors that arguably have just as much or more impact without appearing much in print, not to mention the character foibles of influential psychopaths.

Then too, one could argue that evidence of collapse is all around us already, depending of course on how one defines "collapse."  I see it walking down the grocery aisle, observing how people shop and how they present themselves in public, watching rampant Police State and Nanny State propaganda on TV followed by visible militarization of police on the street, and reviewing the corruption and increasingly zany pronouncements and policy proclamations issued by control freaks in local government.

Volcker did not "save us". That is the greatest deception of all. (I have wrote that in bitter sarcasm in my previous posts. But I wrote that he pulled off a trick.)

Volcker ENGINEERED the whole deal.

It was Volcker who was behind the DEFAULT, the repudiation of the Gold Standard, back on August 15, 1971.  He was the architect. (I know that Arthur Burns was the Fed Chairman at the time.)

Research it. Do not just take my word for it. KNOW IT for yourself. I can spoon feed you the links. I can do that work.

But this time I am going to ask that you do it.

Ahhh, but Greece no longer has a printer. They gave up that 'right' when they joined the EU. So while the EU can print all the 'money' they want, they can't force Greece to take the printed money.

Syriza basically is saying we don't want no stinking money if it comes in the form of 'loans' we can never pay back.

I don't know what their real position on a Grexit is, and will wait to see what they actually do before I say I've figured that one out.  If they're going to hold the Eurozone hostage for a better deal, I would say that it would be most effective if they weren't bluffing and it was clear that they weren't bluffing.

Alexis Tsipras is just another power hungry political opportunist like all the rest, think of him as a hodgepodge of Che Guevara, Hugo Chávez, Clement Attlee, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, the Clintons (both Bill & Hillary), Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Walters all rolled into one.

In fact, Tsipras first came into political prominence when as a young communist student representative was featured as a guest on a television show hosted by journalist Anna Panagiotarea back in the early 1990s. During which Tsipras could be seen defending middle and high school students' right to absenteeism without parental notification.

Bottom-line, he’s a true Trotskyists and as the new leader of the so-called radical RED-GREEN coalition here in Greece you can expect to see a lot of fireworks in the coming days, both within Greece and elsewhere.

This guy is no idiot; he’s an ambitious and dogmatic radical socialist who’s not only interested in changing Greece but the rest of Europe as well… You haven’t seen anything yet.

Rothschilds' world appears to be humming right along, all they need to do is throttle back on their underling puppet bankers. If they have reopeners, some interloper may throw sand in their gears a lot easier than presently. There is big time competition coming that is presently in its infancy. That competition represents probably 3 billion consumers and untold thousands of nukes plus rights to huge amounts of reset fiat currency. In other words, the competition isn't some weakling to be fucked over like Cypress. This one bites back, it's more competitive, much wealthier (fiat isn't wealth) and much more business friendly than Lord Leviathan.

Sanctions will prove the undoing of the USA, not the sanctioned. The sanctioned are devising ingenius ways to circumvent the sanctions and are making a mockery of the all powerful bed wetters. Eventually, all will be ignored.

Yes. They'll demand the debt be restructured so they can ease austerity, or they're out, with Spain to follow soon.  They have the cards to get significant concessions.  Let's hope they do.  As far as the ECB is concerned, it needs to be brought to heel by the EU governments.  Right now, it's a power unto itself, completely unaccountable except to the banking elites.

That is a good point. Greece's very sick economy has ZERO chance of paying off these hundreds of billions of Euros to the banks. More loans to service debt just digs debt slavery deeper. The Brussels dictators only plan is to pile more loans onto a bankrupt economy, and use the loans to service banks positions in Greek debt.

But since Greece can never pay, and the debt is now simply a slave chaine around all Greek's necks, the people have NO INTEREST left in the EU. The EU can offer only slavery and austerity for a century or more!

In the case where you owe more than can ever be repaid, gives reason to just default, yes, that will crash Greece. But Greece is already crashing in slow motion. 50% youth unemployment 30 year old doctors living at home with 75 year old parents, whose mortgage is in default to a German bank, all in Euros.

Default, and watch French and German bankers leap from the 50th story of their Banker Castles! Nothing left to lose Greeks.

Just look, well almost anywhere politicians speak of action and changes, and how they will give us money and make our lives better, WIN! Works in every election for the most part.

Now for you smart folks. The Euro has an identifier for each country's currency. So pulling out Greek Euros may not be as smart as everyone thinks, unless they can exchange them for a different Euro. I state this because if Greece does decide to default and gets kicked out of the EMU will the Greek ID Euro now become worthless? The Greeks better get those Greek Euros spent in another country!!!!

I am glad the incumbents lost for sure but until I see real results, this is just another party promising shit.

Sure, they mention it...pro forma, but they then quickly zoom off to more 'important' news like the lifting of the wreckage of that Air Asia flight that crashed in Indonesia, or some bullshit about goif.

They are shitting bricks now, desperately brainstorming how they will spin this, or perhaps waiting for a stealth ops team from the EU to rig the computers and the vote results, so that some 'anchor' can then miracilously claim a much more fragmented result.
