Japan's Solution To Lack Of Sex: A "Handsome" Tax
It is well known that Japan faces a demographic crisis, as it's aging population (more than 1 in 4 over 65 years old) drags on economic potential. But at the other end of the age spectrum, Japan has a bigger problem: as Bloomberg's Emily Greenhouse calls it - a libido crisis. The birthrate is falling fast. By 2060, the population is expected to go down by a third, and, by 2100, if trends continue, by 61%. Simply put, there is not enough procreation. We previously noted the fact that young Japanese has stopped having sex, but the situation has got worse and government and economists are looking for solutions: from imposing "handsome taxes" to make it easier for uglier men to get laid, to changing women's attitudes towards sex as "bothersome." However, we suspect this phrase sums up the 'virtual' problem best, "I want to tell them that human women are also great fun!"
Ironically, last year we 'joked' about Abe's 4th arrow being a state-sponsored sex-a-thon, as the brith rate hit record lows...
There are many headwinds to deflation-monster-fighting Abe's plans to bring Japan back from the ledge but perhaps the biggest one is the demographic disaster. As Japan News reports, the decline in Japan's population set another record in 2012 with the number of deaths exceeding births for the sixth year in a row. Records were broken everywhere. The number of babies born in the nation in 2012 fell by 13,705 from the previous year to hit a new low of 1,037,101 and while a total fertility rate of 2.0 children per woman will maintain the population at a stable level. Japan’s rate has continued to fall since dropping below 2.0 in 1975.
Meanwhile, the number of deaths in 2012 hit a record high of 1,256,254, increasing by 3,188 from the previous year. The greying of Japan continues and worse still, the young, for many reasons, are not having children as the number of women in their 20s who had a child in 2012 decreased by 16,200. Will the fourth arrow of Abenomics be a state-sponsored unprotected sex-a-thon?
And now as Bloomberg reports, in 2014, aware of the dangers of becoming a nation of old folks, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe set aside 3 billion yen ($30 million) for programs aimed at boosting the birthrate, including matchmaking programs.
But in Japan, the worry is about a libido crisis. The birthrate is falling fast. By 2060, the population is expected to go down by a third, and, by 2100, if trends continue, by 61 percent. In 2011, sales of adult diapers in Japan exceeded those of baby diapers. It’s an urgent national problem: there isn’t enough procreation.
To examine Japanese attitudes toward sex, the Japan Family Planning Association interviewed 3,000 subjects, both male and female, about their sex lives. The group found that 49.3 percent of participants (48.3 percent of men, 50.1 percent of women) had not had sex in the past month. 21.3 percent of married men said they were too tired after work (versus 17.8 percent of women). Of men, 15.7 percent answered that they were no longer interested, after having children. 23.8 percent of women said sex was “bothersome.”
There are a number of diagnoses for this aversion to the bedroom. Morinaga Takuro, an economic analyst and TV personality, believes this has something to do with attractiveness. He has suggested a “handsome tax”: “If we impose a handsome tax on men who look good to correct the injustice only slightly, then it will become easier for ugly men to find love, and the number of people getting married will increase.”
Takuro writes a lament for the men in love with “2D female characters from anime and manga.” He expressed, in the Asahi Shimbun, “I want to tell them that human women are also great fun!” Technology, of course, gets blame: virtual worlds, not to mention porn.
But many, especially alarmed to see that more than 20 percent of men between 25-29 say they have little interest in sex, see the low interest in sex as part of economic depression. A Japanese columnist named Maki Fukasawa observes an increase in a group of men he’s dubbed “herbivores”: heterosexual guys who, in contrast to “carnivorous” businessmen, live without expression of sexuality. Angelika Koch, a Cambridge University scholar, author of Manga Girl Seeks Herbivore Boy, sees “a subversion of the traditional male role of the Japanese 'salaryman': the corporate male in suit and tie who dedicates his life to his company as breadwinner for his family, the sexually assertive man who spends his evenings drinking with colleagues at hostess clubs and bars.”
Whatever the case, it’s an urgent government concern.

Japan's under-40s appear to be losing interest in conventional relationships. Millions aren't even dating, and increasing numbers can't be bothered with sex. For their government, "celibacy syndrome" is part of a looming national catastrophe. Japan already has one of the world's lowest birth rates. As The Guardian previously reported, 45% of Japanese women aged 16-24 are "not interested in or despise sexual contact". More than a quarter of men feel the same way.

Across urban Asia, Europe and America, people are marrying later or not at all, birth rates are falling, single-occupant households are on the rise and, in countries where economic recession is worst, young people are living at home...

I think the maleVSfemale dichotomy is too simple and misses the bigger picture. I see women as a different caste among the sheeple. The real battle of the sexes is among men: producers, predators, parasites and paedophiles. Women (and children) are just tools for men. Feminism is objectively an illusionary view of human action.
Commonly in Western divorce culture, men tend to get screwed and women seem to be the gold-digging cheating whores. I know. [I want to be sensitive here because I know that is not always the case. I know good women who got screwed by dirty rotten men. However, they make no difference to my point.] Under the hood, the real battle is between a divorce lawyer (usually a man) and some poor man.
I hold lawyers in very low regard. Divorce lawyers are the lowest of the low, in my opinion. Divorce lawyers are lower than pimps on the social scale because at least pimps have the balls to walk the street and defend their turf.
Very few successful women are willing to marry below their income or education level. That was never true of men, who were culturally brought up to be providers. Good luck fixing that one.

You're not paying attention: most old people today rely on paid staff to take care of them in old age & they are the ones paying for it. Their children will not do the work and will not pay for it.
So for any man NOW making money and not stupid, the easiest math is I can pay for the most years of care on my own, can't rely on children to do it, can rely on children to drain all my money, can 50% or better rely on a woman divorcing me to steal half my money so I'm at an additional loss...

This birth/death trend has been happening in every western county for some time now. Articles and ideas put forth in 'main stream' forms continually try to blame 'industrialization' and 'progress' from agricultural based economies to industrial ones. What none of them seem willing to admit is that the decline in births and the ageing population are due to one factor and one factor only; taxation. Taxation and repression on an industrial scale -so at least they are partly right.
When half of your earnings and resources are misallocated to government (and used often to subsidise a higher birthrate among the least desirable demographics i.e. those too lazy or stupid to earn a way for themselves) it is impossible to afford a family responsibly. Marriage and children are put off, because the high taxation means you cannot afford a family yet; you are too busy supporting someone else's family with the earnings government steals from you.
Many articles speak of the economy under the same misguided reversal of causality, i.e. a lack of 'demand' for products causing a deflationary spiral. Demand for goods and services (and demand for sexual satisfaction and *gasp* even childern) is not declining or 'down', but the financial ability to Gratify those demands is declining and evaporating as the fiat culture winds itself down a death spiral.

It's really not hard to see why more poeple are losing interest in humping, relationships and especially having babies.
Humping- you can get the same outcome taking care of things yourself than involving another person and dealing with any issues that may arise like STDs or unwanted pregnancies. This is especially true now with easy access to porn and all those sex toys that exist.
Relationships/marriage- as time goes on, people are quicker to end their relatinships for a variety of reasons, often because they think there is something better out there for them or because they get bored. Then you have those that just cheat instead of having the class to simply end the relationship/marriage. Knowing this, you are faced with the potential of some big time drama and stress you do not need (especially if you are a male and have to pay spousal support, aka pussy payments) and the benefits of the relationship/marriage probaly don't outweigh the potential negative if things go south.
Babies- a big financial obligation and many live paycheque to paycheque so unless they are the hopium smokers, why would they go and have some babies if they are barely surviving on their own? Then you have people like me who see how fucked this world is and knows it isn't going to magically get better (seeing as it is getting worse every year) and realize bringing in a new life to deal with all this bullshit is bordering on cruelty. Why would I want to bring in a new life who will then have to deal with all this bullshit?
So yeah, it isn't hard to see why people are giving up on these things. If some like the "powers that be" have a great concern over this then they should be looking to make the world better rather than worse and maybe, just maybe, those who have given up will change their minds. Not doing that and just expecting everyone to be some mindless chimp who will procreate to keed the species going just for the sake of keeping it going is insulting to one's intelligence. If humanity can't maintain a world that isn't full of crap and regressing every single day then the species doesn't deserve to keep going on. It's that simple.

Why procreate when it does nothing but make your life harder and you know consciously that your children will struggle in a world with limited resources? I'm always mystified by these articles because to me Japanese women are the easiest to pick up in the world. That said, a lot of what the articles asserts makes total sense. There's a profound level of alienation between the sexes in Japan, a lot of it locked in the country's overly formulaic language, antiquated social caste system that still persists to this day, and the increasing convenience that digital media have created for sexual surrogacy. I don't think the Japanese are asexual... "I can't be bothered" kind of sums it all up. There's no fun in it... Japanese chicks don't fall all over themselves with foreign guys because we're so fucking awesome. That's not the point. The point is... we don't come saddled with the enormous shitload of cultural baggage the Japanese guys come with. We're virtually risk-free.
