"Out Of My Face Please" - Why Are US Soldiers In Mariupol?

Tyler Durden's picture

Amid the devastation of yesterday's Mariupol artillery strikes which killed or wounded dozens, which was promptly blamed by both sides on the "adversary" - and has been proclaimed by both 'sides' (more on that later) as more violent than before the truce - an 'odd' clip has emerged that appears to provide all the 'proof' a US intelligence officer would need to surmise that US military boots are on the ground in Ukraine. As the following clip shows, a Ukrainian journalist approaches what she thinks is a Ukrainian soldier (since he is wearing a Ukrainian military uniform and is carrying an AK) and asked him as they run through the battlezone, "tell me, what happened here?" His response, which requires no translation, speaks for itself.

Forward to 2:36 for the 'Ukrainian' soldier's response:

Here is a clip which focuses just on the exchange in question:

With daily reportage of the 'invasion' of Russian military forces into Ukraine territory (admittedly unconfirmed by NATO), this clip raises many questions about American involvement in the ongoing conflict - most of all, was the US involved in the "staging" the Mariupol massacre, and if so it is clear who should be blamed (and isolated).

Of course, US troops, or at least mercs, on the ground, should not be a total surprise, since just 2 months ago, we discussed the hacked US documents that revealed the extent of undisclosed US "lethal aid" being given to the Ukraine army. What was apparently left unleaked was the part of the US aid also includes US-speaking soldiers. The only question is whether US taxpayers are paying their wages.

The individual is either Brit or Aussie. There is a slight chance he is from the Eastern Maritime region of Canada (Nova Scotia) judging by his accent. Could he be serving in an american or NATO capacity? That could be possible or maybe he is with XE or other contractors.

S0.....If Russia hadn't invaded Ukraine and flat stolen part of that country by force, this wouldn't be happening. Anybody who believes the Pro-Russian forces aren't the Russian Special Security Spetznatz forces is a moron and it is clear that the rest of the Pro-Russians are regular Russian troops....which leads me to the question; Which of the Tylers is the stooge or just a willing dupe for the Russian Security Forces????

Wrong, Roadkill.  None of this would be happening if the US/EU had allowed the Ukrainian political calendar to proceed unmolested.  There would have been presidental elections in Feb 2015.  Yanukovich would probably have lost.  And Crimea would still be part of Ukraine and there would be no civil war in the east.  It was the US -- not Russia -- that destabilized Ukraine in furtherance of its long-term policy of dragooning the place into our globe-girdling hive of compliant states, the better to use it as a club with which to bludgeon Russia.

Newsweek. To be read with a grain of salt. I used to read them a lot, but its been a long time since I've seen them cover both sides of any international issue.

Having said that, If I were Russia, you're damn right I'd have snipers and spies in Ukraine. Russia may not want Ukraine for itself, but if NATO takes Ukraine its absolutely WW3, and kiss your ass goodbye in advance, because we wont' get eight minutes of warning.

You saying young draftee Dmitry Kustov was not killed inside the Ukraine and was not buried in the military section of his home village of Sudislavskoye, in the dead of the night, by persons unknown?

But your point is well taken in the other direction too.

Personally, I take what the Russian Times projectile vomits as news with an entire shaker of salt ;-)

It seems likely he was. I'm saying that I completely understand Russia having a small number of soldiers in Ukraine. That is the minimum requirement just to know what is going on.

Do I believe Russian Tass propaganda? no more so than Newsweek. But look back through all the ZH reads on Ukraine and see how many times the Ukraine govt claimed Russia is doing this or that and it turned out false.

Putin said he envisions the Ukraine as a buffer zone between NATO and Russia. I'll take that with a grain of salt too, but indeed a buffer zone is the only thing that makes any sense for Russia.

Sun, 01/25/2015 - 16:54 | 5703234 nmewn
nmewn's picture

Well, I'm saying I understand it too. But me understanding it as the lie that it is and reconciling Russia's numerous lies about engaging in direct combat are two entirely different things, as it then becomes what else are they lying about.

Its not even under dispute anymore that they have invaded a sovereign nation and there was a time (not so long ago either) that a nation invading another sovereign nation to make it a puppet-state (or buffer zone) for its own gain was frowned upon as aggressive & murderous.

So I guess times have changed around ZH ;-)

Pretty shitty of the Marijupol attack on civilians. But then again.

There was the previous ZH article on the transfer of equipment by the POTUS and I had to laugh at the items listed (laugh at the fake document).  It has a list of items with no supporting items (I guess you assume you don't need magazines for all the weapons, batteries for the electrical equipment, stuff like that).  Then there is a line item   Javelin (with TOWII)  These are totally different anti-tank missile systems.  Who is going to turn over the stuff without a lot of range training.  Too much bull flying

I know this is a late post and not likely read, but what does it matter?

This Ukraine color revolution thing has been going on for over a year. NATO through Poland has been beating the drums for armor build-up.  US base in Bulgaria has been beefed up.  Drones have been covering the area for over a year.  US ships in Black Sea. We have complete information on Russian maneuvers.  The subject is dressed like a sad sog action figure with that stupid pmc foam hat  and is running around with other clone troopers too. This is on top of GRU guys in Kiev. PMC shooters during the Maidan. Israeli cadre in Odesa.

It's a Romper Room of warfare.

This Ukraine contest is not unlike WWI.  If the parties want war then there will be war.  All the other boots on the ground regardless of side or employer are just pawns running errands. You saw the same shit in the Podrinje, Tbilisi and Grozny - and for what again?

Which bank Ukraine is indebted to?

The Rus cannot get over their inferiority complex and certainly not find comfort in a Chinese bed.

The only thing that matters is natural gas to Germany. Its still a trade between US adventure in Syria for Russia in East Ukraine.

http://kollinos.blogspot.com/2014/10/washington-s-diabolical-agenda-in-iraq.html The US has pledged assistance for victims of and even possible “airstrikes” against terrorists who have surrounded and threaten to eradicate thousands of religious minorities in Iraq. However, the terrorists themselves are a product of US foreign policy in the Middle East and North Africa, and instrumental in achieving Western objectives across the region. Punitive strikes and aid to the victims of what is essentially a Western mercenary army is part of maintaining plausible deniability.

This headline is no different than the NY Times (1-24-15) having on their internet home page the headline "War in Ukraine Explodes with Hints of Russian Role." When you click on the article the title morphs into "War is Exploding Anew in Ukraine; Rebels Vow More." The change, IMO, is due to lack of evidence provided in the article for Russia's involvement. Propaganda mission accomplished, the damage has been done- how many read the title and moved on feeling the story told. The seed has been planted- Russia is involved.

The article notes increasing evidence that both Russian troops and Russian equipment is pouring into the region again and that "analysts have little doubt that their fortunes are tied to the level of support provided by Moscow." Yet analysts are not identified, no witnesses names regarding the Russian troops and equipment are provided.

Welcome to the "he said, she said" brand of journalism. The goal is to confuse us all, make sure we trust no one. When are we going to hear the results of the downed plane incident. I guess never- the Netherlands got their gold back as payment to keep that up in the air too. The world is led by psychopaths on all sides.

Since you are so fuc*ing persistant, let me spell it out for you:

- Russian army was legaly present in Crimea

- after Kiev coup, Russian army blocked junta forces in their barracs

- this allowed the people of Crimea to freely hold their referendum

- if it wasn't for Russian army, there would have been a bloodbath like the one we are witnessing in Donbass

Now, read my lips: Crimea is where it belongs. Case closed.

Read again, and again and again what's written. No support from the people, representatives where forced to vote on what terrorists wanted and it was only possible with the hep from Russian army. That "referendum" was a farce.

That is why this "referendum" has been recognized as legit only by those who organized it - Putin regime.

Can anyone ID the long gun?  The mags on chest look 5.56 30's.  I thought I caught a glimpse of a suppressor on the long gun.  It looks like a shorty, but not certain.  He's carrying it too loosely, non-nonchalantly.  Still looks like pro battle rattle though.

I live in this region and would go further south into Virginia than Langley, and even non coastal states such as West Virginia and Pennsylvania. ...  but I am not 100% convinced it is an American.  I am not an expert on South African accents, but have worked with South Africans and that accent is still a candidate to me.

Also, having spent a lot of time in Holland, I remember asking the a cleaning person in a hotel why everyone spoke fluent English. She replied that it is the second language of the country.  When I asked why people spoke with American accents rather than British accents, she said it was because of Hollywood and American TV shows.

I have enjoyed his accent conversation immensly.

Obama's Remarks on Russia's Economy Dead Right: Experts

Russian communist party supporters carry a portrait of late Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin as they take part in a memorial ceremony to mark the 91st anniversary of his death, in Moscow’s Red Square, Jan. 21, 2015.

Even as Russian officials pushed back Wednesday over comments made by President Barack Obama in his State of the Union speech the night before—he said Russia was isolated and its "economy in tatters"—individuals with a first hand view of the country's economy said the president was dead-on in his assessment.

Some affluent individuals who do business outside of Russia are starting to pay the price, say sources doing business with Russian clients.

Edward Mermelstein, a New York-based attorney who works with Russian clients and advises on cross-border investments in the Russian Federation, is currently in Moscow and told CNBC that although currency controls are technically not the law, they are essentially in effect. He told CNBC that his clients cannot get their money out of Russia as of this month. "Clients who manufacture outside of Russia get paid in rubles and need to convert those funds to dollars in order to purchase and manufacture so that they can import more product into Russia," Mermelstein said. "Today's issue is they cannot get dollars out of the country, and so cannot purchase new products." Banks are not processing the transfers, he said.

Marlen Kruzhkov, a Ukrainian-American attorney whose business is oriented toward those from the former Soviet Union who want to invest in the United States, echoed those sentiments.

"I have heard from clients, friends and colleagues that informal currency controls have been imposed and I have heard about people having difficulty in doing business outside of Russia on contracts (fulfilling their obligations)," Kruzhkov said. "Never had issues before but do now."

Kruzhkov explained that the government does this by either preventing dollars or other foreign currencies from leaving the country or "dragging their feet" on bureaucratic approvals across the board. "Anywhere that any type of governmental approval is necessary, they are taking their time and effectively preventing money from leaving."

Timothy Ash, the head of emerging markets research at Standard Bank, said that this seems like the new reality for Russian businessmen, though he said he does not expect the government to take radical approaches anytime soon. "The impact of all this is a deeper recession, as economic activity slows and that does impact on the fiscal accounts as budget revenues stall," Ash said.

Russia saw more than $150 billion leave the country in 2014, more than double the amount the year before.

Reaction to Obama's speech came quickly in Russia. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Obama's claims about Russia demonstrated that the United States sees itself as the "No. 1" country in the world." [The speech] shows that the U.S. still wants to dominate, and not even be first among equals," Lavrov said Wednesday at his annual press conference. "They have a more aggressive foreign policy philosophy."

The issue of not being able to get money out of the country is part of a broader policy not only desired by the Kremlin, but as a direct result of the economic sanctions placed on Russia, as well as low oil prices, said Donald Jensen, senior fellow at Johns Hopkins University's Center for Transatlantic Relations. "Even before the Ukraine crisis, he started to pressure oligarchs to bring money back from overseas," Jensen said, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Jensen pointed out that big companies such as Rosneft, and others particularly in the energy sector, would seem to be exempt from most limits on currency, since the regime has shown in recent weeks it is willing to come to the aid of favored oligarchs. Other companies (especially medium-size businesses) and individuals less close to the Kremlin and with assets or customers outside of Russia should be concerned, Jensen said.

"There is pressure on companies short of officially implementing currency controls."

Eurasia Group's Alexander Kliment, however, does not believe that cross-border capital controls are anywhere on the horizon, "in part because of the potential political costs of limiting elites' capital movement and ordinary Russians' access to onshore dollar accounts."

Kliment, though, pointed out that "if the ruble encounters another bout of sharp and sustained depreciation, the prospect of cross-border controls will rise sharply."

Standard Bank's Ash said that Putin will probably try to resuscitate the economy by pumping more liquidity into banks, some modest fiscal easing and then trying to re-orient the economy away from the West wherever possible.

Furthermore, Johns Hopkins' Jensen said that U.S. companies are reassessing investment and expansion plans in Russia and that will also have ripples in the economy that will go far beyond the inability to get credit or currency controls.

Lawyer Kruzhkov said that most of his clients have already planned for 2015 and 2016 as recessionary years. "If they impose actual capital controls, it will be potentially disastrous for the economy as it is effectively acknowledging a default-type situation," Kruzhkov said.

"I do not see any good options," he added. "Even if sanctions would magically disappear tomorrow (which they clearly will not), it still wouldn't change the price of oil or demand for minerals, which drive the Russian economy."

Think about this:

If the real aim is disruption to the status quo leadership, I'd say their record is almost 100%.

Syria is only a partial failure. Ukraine is payback for Putin's meddling in Syria. While it was always on the list, events in Maidan moved up the timetable. Never let a crisis go to waste.

I woudn't count Vietnam, as that was a cold war relic against the spread of big 'C' Communism. One has to keep in mind events in Malaysia and other Far East countries with communist influences and insurgencies within the mid 50's-early 60's timeframe. The '56 election in Vietnam had to be cancelled because the Communist Party would have surely won, hence the Domino Theory and the establishment of South Vietnam as a separate political entity, with a hard border that was supposed to be only a temporary ceasefire line, with US backed leadership, such as it was.

That was one they wanted to win.

Some oddities I thought. Prior to this reporters brief interation with the "English" speaking fellow, she's interviewing a gentleman who is talking about a burned out car, maybe his own, then there is an edit, and in the next shot the camera gives a clear, one to two second shot of street address "@%#& 167". That just seemed our of place, but maybe this video hadn't been edited, yet. Then, the camera and cameraperson are following the reporter (who quickly dashes ahead of the camera) shooting up ahead at what appears to be troop activitiy moving quickly in one direction ( camera view is following back of another soldier with gun on his back, but not the English speaking fellow, yet) and the soldiers appear to be gapped from each other, then there is another edit and she chimes in and the camera quickly does a 180, panning left backwards, and his hand goes up, he comments and the camera quickly pans to the right of him, 180 degree turn and tilts downward, then there is another edit and it appears that he is up front of the camera maybe 50 feet (and they are now 1 few hundred feet up towards the white van). I wonder why the camera stopped taping just after he said "Out of my face, please"? Then began rolling again a minute or two later and then disregarded the English speaking person altogether and panned down at what appeared to be shrapnel. Did they edit something out? They must have. The gap there is what I'm questioning. Then again, was this a deliberate ploy by someone to make it appear an American was/is in Mariupol? Street address then encounter? It seems that this video could point the finger at either side. Maybe he was an actor for the Russians...propaganda. Maybe he was/is blackwater /contractor with the Ukraines? Maybe he simply was an American, with Ukrainian connections, living there and fighting for their cause. The video seems to have a flavor of suspect to it.

Sun, 01/25/2015 - 19:26 | 5703899 Robert of Ottawa

The word "edit" is suspect; probably the cameraman was simply turning it on and off as he was running and looking for something to shoot at, as it were.

Broadcast engineer here...

Cameramen do that all the time...shoot the address so they can 'remember' where the shot was taken.

The 'bad' camera work is a consequence of the need to keep your head on a swivel the whole time you are at risk. When the cameraman puts his eye to the viewfinder, he is 'in the camera' and everything that happens outside of that viewfinder simply does not exist for him. They know the crap they shoot can be edited out, so they don't worry about the jerky stuff and bad composition.

The video looks pretty normal in that kind of circumstances to me...

Many factors, known from first hand experience, lead me to believe he's SF.  The uniform is typical for an SF operator.  The videographer had the fucking shakes through half of the clip so it's hard to know the "subjects" exact set up, but it's 100% US military.  I own a plate carrier (body armor - translation for bang torp) that looks identical to his.  It's new issue to only certain units (I have a friend...).  Like someone else mentioned the gloves are another big giveaway.  The US Army issues gloves now because they became so popular. It started 20 years ago with flight gloves for SF, Ranger, Delta and now just about everyone wears them.  The baseball cap another, who the fuck else wears a baseball cap in Eastern Europe lol.

The guy he's walking with has different kit probably a Ukraine dude.  The subject sounds out of breath like they ran to the location.  My guess is they're doing a BDA (battle damage assessment translation for bang torp).

The primary job of SF (18 MOS- military occupation specialty for bang torp) is to train and advise foreign military's.   The "subject" is not there to kill, but to assess, advise and train.

I could be 100% wrong and we'll probably never know, but that's my educated guess on the "subject".

Nothing really it all happened too fast, to clarify it's 50/50 in my mind it's a voice over, it's been done for psyop purposes before (BBC Syria chemical weapons). And even if he wasn't North American, as far as Russia sees it NATO is NATO, it doesn't matter which treaty nation the individuals working in it's interests hail from.

I would be curious to ask someone who actually has firsthand knowledge, if they've ever known slav military personnel to use US tactical gear like mag pulls. The dump pouch indicates to me that the person doesn't have support, and needs to keep his mags in order to reload them when empty instead of simply getting more. I'm not an operator wannabe or a tacti-queer, but as a gun enthusiast and a preparedness minded person I've picked a few things up over the years.

It's not made out of Bakelite; although this is a common Joe Tacdtical error.  What you actually want is an SKS.

I don't care about the minutiae, or your tacti-queer high speed low drag ninnying. They are colloquially known as bakelite, and that's what I call them.

Also why on earth would I want an SKS, mags are expensive and I have no paitence to do the conversion anyway? I have a garand for 30cal clip fed fun and I have my ARs for everything else, I used my 74 for range fun untill 7n6 became as expensive as .223.

Looks to me like the rare American tourist who is appropriately dressed for the region he is visiting.

Not all Americans wear shorts and tee shirts.

Tyler's not a native English speaker as one can tell from the atrocious syntax on this site.  That must be why he isn't asking, "Why are British Soldiers in Mariupol?"

Sounds a bit like that ISIS guy to me. Not some guy from Maine.

Then again, there is this asswipe named Tim Sample who is from CT and absolutely butchers the real Maine accent for a profit. Our guy Eben, from Maine, proves him wrong. See above. Check out Mr. Man too. Most of the assholes from NY, CT and NJ (i've found nice conservative folk on the South Shore here in MA.). I offer my apologies to those who haven't figured it out yet but soon will. I stand by all my earlier posts on this thread.

Wasn't Georgia's president a Haavahd trained idiot?
