The Template Of Life In America Has Broken

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by James H Kunstler via Kunstler.com,

The more detached from reality American culture becomes the more strictly ceremonial leadership gets, as illustrated by the raft of bromides Barack Obama floated past the assembled vassalage of government last week in another grand effort to avoid the necessities of the moment.

Those necessities include freeing a hostage public from the tyrannical clutches of corporate despotism — the evil empire of big boxes, big burgers, big pharma, Big Brother — and the atrocious rackets fostered by them that masquerade as an economy. The template of the life we have known is broken and the pieces within are flying apart, and no amount of wishing or promising can keep them going. If this society is even going to survive, the people have to smash their way out of this template prison, probably against the efforts of the people and organizations now running it merely for their own benefit.

The future is telling us very clearly: get smaller, get finer, get more local, get less complex, get less grandiose, do it now.

Do you want to eat food in the years ahead? Better make sure you live in a part of the country where small-scale farming and backyard gardening is possible because the General Mills Agri-Biz GMO Cheerios model will be folding its big tent along with its financing agents in the debt Ponzi banking system.

Do you want to have a personal economic future? Think about what you can do to make yourself useful in a local economy made up of your neighbors. And if you live in one of the thousands of soulless, neighborless suburban wastelands that amount to nothing but big box and big burger plantations, you better get out and find a real town in some other part of the country.

Do you believe that computers and robot factories will define the years to come? Maybe you have failed to notice that the US electric grid is decrepit and in need of at least a $1 trillion upgrade-and-rebuild, which, by the way, is not going to happen. What is all that crap going to run on? America’s disappointment with the broken promises of technology will be so epic that we’ll be lucky not to slide back into a world ruled by superstition and ghosts.

Do you think that $50 oil is going to make the world safe for WalMart, Walt Disney World, and Happy Motoring? In fact, $50 oil is going to crush what is left of the US Oil industry, especially fracking for shale oil and deep water drilling. And guess what — everything else is depleting at about 5 percent a year. The frackers will never again get access to the sort of junk bond financing that allowed them to ramp up their Ponzi demonstration projects in the Bakken and Eagle Ford. And they will never again regain their current level of production — which is the net result of past Ponzi financing, now ending in tears. So, forget “Saudi America” and “energy independence,” unless you mean living in a walkable community near a navigable waterway.

Do you want to be an educated person, that is, someone capable of comprehending reality and functioning within its demands? In the USA, that means you must learn how to speak and write English correctly, especially if you are in a “low performing” ethnic minority group. If you can’t conjugate verbs, you will have a hard time distinguishing the past, the present, and the future in your daily activities. Among other things, you’ll be incapable of showing up on time. And that, of course, is only the beginning. It’s that simple. These abilities used to be the result of an eighth-grade education in the United States. We would be lucky to get back to that high standard, and our knucklehead fantasies about universal access to community college be damned. It’s only a new layer in the current racket that pretends to be education.

That is the current state of the union and a glimpse of the trajectory it’s on, which the inept leaders of our country do not comprehend and cannot communicate.

The worst part of all of this is that IF we ever were come to realize this growth meme is simply a side effect of our fractional reserve banking system we could think about sustainability.

Until I hear people actually talking about our banking system being the culprit behind 90% of the world's ills, I will just assume they are all in on the gig.

Sure we can talk about our shallow must have buy now culture.  Why is it that our culture has become that way?

And piss off about how everyone used to be super smart back in the old days.  Most of those tests from 8th grade in Kansas are known fakes and even if they were valid use terms like how many knuckleweights of oats does a plow horse consume, if he has to plow 1/4 acre each day.............
You know WHY people today are not fluent in their native language?

Because they don't have to be to eat.
Why is that?

Because the government spends money on their behalf to ensure that minimum lifestyle.
Why is that?

The goddamn banking system requires it.

But no, most all of the doomporn today flirts around the edges of the real action. Like those horrible PPV movies where you hear some chick yelling and see some dude in the vinegar strokes.

Doomporn purveyors today are simply well presented safety valves.

Wish there was a true, paying market for real stuff, I'd get more people off than that Duke chick.

This culture is certainly doomed to fail eventually. We need another culture and we need it fast, otherwise we will go down with it.

Those under the influence of PsyOp /Propaganda / Mind Control would have to accept that absolutely everything they've been taught or their "World View" & Belief System is a lie.

And, for most it's too much to for them to bear. Some would rather claim being willfully ignorant while others Cognitive Dissonance.

It's pretty simple, really.  The modern American model is aimed at two primary purposes: one, protect the status quo.  That protects the people who are at the top at the expense of those below them. Two, send money to the bottom to try to "promote fairness".  That protects the people at the bottom at the expense of those above them.  The result is exactly the conclusion of these two openly stated goals.  The elite are pulling away from the middle, as the avenues for talent to make a difference are destroyed, and the bottom are growing daily as that is where the resources not taken by the elite are sent.

Taken to its logical conclusion (which I don't believe is attainable before collapse), this system would lead to a political body completely divorced from a horde of mindless people trained only to follow whoever leads them and cash their survival rations each day.

Beautiful in its elegant simplicity, isn't it?

No, we don't need a new culture. We need to follow the Constitution (the first ten or so Amendments anyway) to the letter, we need to ditch forever fractional reserve lending and fiat scrip, we need one set of laws that EVERYBODY follows and is subject to, we need to become a moral people again, and we need to reopen Ellis Island and get a grip on immigration.

Novel ideas, however, that said we, collectively must begin to stave the beast & dissolve the Criminal Fraud UNITED STATES, CORP. INC. reverting back to a Constitutional Free Market Republic.

The 14th Amendmnent creates a 'corporate person' aka 'citizen'. That amendment is the root of the fraud that is currently occuring in this country. This amendment defined what a 'citizen' was, is, and could be. It eliminated all rights to property and transfered them to the state. That is why you must 'register' everything with the state. The term 'registration' means to give up all rights and ownership, that is why no one owns anything in this country, because fictions(corporate persons) are dead and 'tell no tales' and 'own nothing'. Senate Report 93-549 confirms that Americans live under a dictatorship, own no property, and never can. This amendment allowed for the creation of the Act of 1871, which then in turn allowed for the creation of The Federal Reserve Act, which in turn lead to the Emergency Banking Act which dissolved the Republician form of government and replaced with a democracy. This amendment needs to gone the way of the Prohibition Amendment. Do your research the Secretary of State(Not the President who is supposed to) signed the Executive Orders in 1868 ratifing the 14th Amendment ahead of the last state and to publish it. The Secretary of State was the one who finalized it and only the President can finalize them. It is a fraud and needs to go.

I may also add, Look this up CRS Report for Congress Order Code 98-611 page 5, and I quote:

"The sixth executive order, dated July 20, 1868, and concerning the ratification of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution, was also signed by Secretary Seward and has the form of a proclamation. The same was true of the seventh executive order, dated July 28, 1868, certifying the ratification of the Fourteenth Amendment and ordering its publication."

Only the President can sign executive orders, and Johnson did not want to sign it. So there is fraud right there, not to mention the fact that 2 states recinded before it was ratified.

Changing the constitution won't get rid of the criminals who are running things.  We don't follow the constitution anyway.  There will be a collapse before we get a reset.  No one cares what Seward signed or did.  Everything has changed since then.  Even the history of those days in the history books has been changed.  We have to become a moral and honest people again or we will see our own destruction.

When the articles and narratives from these people SWITCH from talking about "INEPT LEADERS' and start talking about the shadow figures who control them and go about EXPOSING, in the mainstream conscious, WHO the shadow figures serve and what constitutes the commonality that binds them [the disproportionate representation of the shadow figures] together, well:

Kunstler was born in New York City to Jewish parents,[1] who divorced when he was eight.[2] His family then moved to the suburbs in Long Island. His father was a middleman in the diamond trade.[1] Kunstler spent most of his childhood with his mother and stepfather, a publicist for Broadway shows.[1] While spending summers at a boys' camp in New Hampshire, he became acquainted with the small town ethos that would later permeate many of his works.

In 1966, he graduated from New York City's High School of Music & Art, and attended the State University of New York at Brockport, where he majored in Theater. After college, Kunstler worked as a reporter and feature writer for a number of newspapers, and finally as a staff writer for Rolling Stone. In 1975, he began writing books and lecturing full-time.

He has lectured at Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Dartmouth, Cornell, MIT, RPI, the University of Virginia, and many other colleges, and he has appeared before many professional organizations such as the AIA, the APA, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

He lives in Washington County, New York, and

It is difficult to speak the truth when your salary depends on ignoring it. He's a fucking liar like all the rest of them. My days on ZH are probably numbered now for speaking this truth.

Chancellor: Order him in

Secretary: Wordsworth, Romney, Obsolescence.

(A feeble man walks through two large doors. Behind him are other people awaiting their fate in a waiting room. As the two doors close, he is led by a guard to his microphone. His eyes have a look of confusion, awe, and fear as he looks around the word. The Narrator's voice comes over the scene.)

The Narrator: You walk into this room at your own risk, because it leads to the future; not a future that will be, but one that might be. (Camera pans to Narrator)This is not a new world: It is simply an extension of what began in the old one. It has patterned itself after every dictator who has ever planted the ripping imprint of a boot on the pages of history since the beginning of time. It has refinements, technological advancements, and a more sophisticated approach to the destruction of human freedom. But like every one of the super states that preceded it, it has one iron rule: Logic is an enemy, and truth is a menace.(Camera switches to the convicted man) This is Mr. Romney Wordsworth, in his last forty-eight hours on Earth. He's a citizen of the State, but will soon have to be eliminated, because he's built out of flesh and because he has a mind. Mr. Romney Wordsworth, who will draw his last breaths in the Twilight Zone.

Shelter-in-place will become absolutely imperative.

While I'm in no position to recommend an alternative, I seriously wonder how the fuck that is actually supposed to work out. Shelter-in-place is sort of like waiting-to-be-discovered -- when you are a rabbit. Yeah you can try, but the lights being on and someone home is going to give it away, pretty much. What happens when the mob is going down the street knocking every door in? A big mob, with lots of guns? I can see all kinds of ways that shit simply does not work out not even a little bit.

Nope, no idea what to do then. It's just a lot of pain, everything falling apart, everything wasted and lost. Everything broken and nothing can be repaired, for years and years of being broken. Broken until we have forgotten that there ever was a time when things where unbroken.

All any of us can really hope and prepare for is survival, with the expectation that our humanity will be left intact.

I've never killed anybody, so I don't know what that feels like, even if it were a justified action. I've read survivor accounts which reveal that the act of taking another human life can have a profound effect on one's own life. Perhaps it becomes easier after the first "kill".

If any of us expect to survive a worst case scenario collapse, then we're going to have to become cognizant of the fact that we will have to kill people, immediately and without hesitation.

That's not a world that any of us non-psychopaths would like to live in, however I fear it may become necessary.

Ideally, there's always safety in numbers, but that's definitely easier said than done, especially on an empty stomach.

The urban populations will find that hunting does not mean killing, field dressing does not mean butchering, and butchering does not mean cooking and cooking does not mean preserving.  Also, after about a week without food, they're going to be pretty damned lethargic and not able to make it out to places that I would consider honey holes for wild game.  Some of the cattle near by maybe, but not where deer, elk, antelope, and yes, domestic livestock all intermingle.  If it comes to that, I'm sheltering in one of a few places that very few people have heard of.

And that doesn't even get into how quickly people who don't live near natural sources of water will be fucked if the water gets shut off.

Hey buddy, last time I checked, the people who were really superstitious and sensitive to spirits didn't wreck their national economies or environment. That was done by the crew who believe that Nature is a soulless, unintelligent canvas just waiting for man to apply his creative geniuses to with all consequences be damned.

Same as it ever was. The illusion and the author's delusion are that its ever been different. This nation has for the most part always been run by the few. Its a corporation where the middle men, the middle and even upper management, are the members of our government. However they are not the board members or the CEO'S. What was it that Mayer Amschel Rothschild said?

"The frackers will never again get access to the sort of junk bond financing that allowed them to ramp up their Ponzi demonstration projects..."

Suuuurre....just like we'll never see 3% mortgages again.  The author seems to forget how short of a memory that capital markets seem to have.  Easy money is a powerful lure.

Easy money is a powerful lure.

GS were the only ones made any money on the fracking ponzi. Yes, they'll try that again -- maybe some bonehead rookies will line up when they do -- but a lot of fund managers are going to lose their jobs over this fuck-up, their replacements likely won't be back for some of the same.

In fact while I'm on the topic, I wonder if the massive blow-up that's due to land over the next 12 months won't just drive a hole right through the entire smoking ruin of American financial institution BAU. The evaporation of a few $trillion of leveraged debt is going to have a large blast-radius.

Never lose faith in the power of Stupid to amass and grow in population size.

If there's one fundamental of human nature in the last thousand years... this is it. Unique individuals like Tesla will make us look good but actually many stupid members of the species are taking credit for having done nothing at all.

Conjugation of verbs is not necessary to sign up for food stamps, public housing, obamafones, or obolacare..... in fact if you don't speak English it might be easier to acquite aforementioned "benefits".

Now, when applying to universities ...

out of some odd 200 nations that have been recognized
over the last several years, how many have been invaded,
bombed or otherwise disregarded by the a few other "nations"?
who are these "nations"?

mental illness, no? do you see it?

We're still sitting on at least 200 years worth of coal power. We'll go back to steam engines before we give up and walk.

Maybe.

Still likely that few would be able to get good jobs and afford the rails to commute like that. Maybe some liquid-fuel made from coal would power buses for travel within cities to work. Cars would have to switch to CNG or be done with.

Long bicycles? Solar e-bikes?

Honestly the template for American life 1950 on was designed to break. Either America had to co-operate with everyone or dominate everyone planet-wide. No in-between measures. They went for domination (not smart) and failed (typical) and now the template is breaking as designed.
