And the wealthy men were enthralled by Chris Kyle...The American Sniper

hedgeless_horseman's picture

I was reading Tim Knight's post on ZH about Perfect Palo Alto, and teen suicide in America.

The heart of the issue isn't the fact that this one railroad crossing is or isn't guarded by someone. It has to do with what the kids think they have to "achieve" to be worthwhile.

This made me think about the movie, American Sniper, and the article I read in D Magazine about the subject of the movie, Chris Kyle.

I posted this:

There is hope. Those kids can always join the military and kill some men, women, and children that are just trying to defend their homeland from foreign invaders. This may delay suicide by a couple years, not to mention the 10% discount at Home Depot.

Who knows? If they kill enough, there may even be a book or movie deal and good times at NFL games with hedge fund managers.

I suspect that Tall Tom was referring to another ZH article in his reply:

Is 1628 the magic number? I gotta know...I gotta know.

That way they can feign remorse while bragging about the body count...

Makes for a great book and TeeVee time too.

Below is my response to Tall Tom, which I have now moved to the ZH Contributors blog in the hope it may spur some conversation on this sad matter.

160 confirmed kills has been the magic number in the past.  However, as Kyle Bass might say, past performance does not guarantee future results.

Bass invited Kyle to live at his house with him while Taya finished selling their place in San Diego. He introduced Kyle to as many “big money” people as he could. And the wealthy men were enthralled by Chris Kyle. They loved being around the legend. They loved hearing his stories and invited him to go hunting on their ranches. Bass would hold an economic summit every year at his ranch in East Texas. He would kick off the festivities by introducing his sniper friends.

“I’d have Chris and other SEALs come out and do exhibition shoots,” Bass says. “They would take 600-yard shots at binary explosives, so when they hit them it’s this giant explosion that shakes the ground.” He smiles as he tells the story. “For all the people that manage money all over the world and on Wall Street to come to Texas and see a Navy SEAL sniper shoot a bomb, it’s about as cool as it gets.”

I wish I could get Kyle Bass and all the people that manage money all over the world and on Wall Street to watch this 18-minute video by Sam Richards.  Maybe then they might begin to understand why Chris Kyle was killed by another veteran, and why more US soldiers are dying from suicide than are killed by the enemy

And maybe then Wall Street and The City might decide to direct their whores in Washington and London to get our sons and daughters out of Afghanistan, which is the longest war in American history.

Now, that would be about as cool as it gets, in my opinion.

For those that think this is a derailing of the Palo Alto suicide thread, just think for a moment about Tim's point in the article on Palo Alto.

"It has to do with what the kids think they have to "achieve" to be worthwhile."

What American Sniper Chris Kyle "achieved" to become a hero is not so vastly different than what Russian Sniper Vasily Zaytsev "achieved" to become a hero.

Read these two books if you want to better understand.

http://www.amazon.com/Stalingrad-The-Fateful-Siege-1942-1943/dp/01402845...

http://www.amazon.com/American-Sniper-Autobiography-Military-History/dp/...

However, the morality of a nation matters.

The morality of a fight matters, as was taught to a young Chris Kyle by his father, and to me by my father.

It always has.

It always will.

As Bastiat says in, The Law:

Each of us has a natural right — from God — to defend his person, his liberty, and his property. These are the three basic requirements of life, and the preservation of any one of them is completely dependent upon the preservation of the other two.

We do not have the natural right to attack others, imprison others, and to take or destroy others property...even if it is profitable to do so...and even if not doing so may endanger our nation's ability to enforce the petrol dollar.

Get us out of Afghanistan.

Get us out of Iraq.

Get us out of Syria.

Get us out of Bahrain.

Get us out of Saudi Arabia.

Get us out of Yemen.

Get us out of Ukraine.

Stop the drone war.

Peace be with you.

I know. It makes casting off the chains of oppression that much more difficult. I guess that is purpose of the FBI; an apparatus for the preservation and consolidation of the police state.

Rights dont come from god. As a matter of fact, there is no such thing as a natural right. People do whatever they want and any "right" you may have is derived from either a game theory equilibrium or exists within the limited context of a contract or informal agreement. Eg: Your private duty to work entails a private right to earn a salary.

No universal rights exist. Not even property rights, which are essentially but a protection agreement with the military administrator.

Gotta tell ya Hedgeless this is another black eye for that State that helped kill a sitting President.  Well at least you can say they have "a pair"?!!!

But as bad a demented psychopath and "liar" as Kyle was, the award for completely off the "nutter shelf" goes to that 84 year old fuck in Hollywood that completely sold out to the "tribe" and the United States military establishment in misrepresenting completely what was in the book (like his alleged involvement in killing civilians as a merc during Katrina) and the "timelines" while in Iraq!

Clint Eastwood we salute you!

For the pile of steaming shit that you've become!!!

P.S.

Great write from you on this sad subject of where America has been and continues to "go"... I'm absolutely crestfallen that the (other Kyle) actually befriended a vile piece of shit like this but being it's a money manager at that level why should anyone be surprised given how he probably made his fortune and who he's "rubbed elbows with" or sucked off in order to get to where he is!

No wonder this Country has gone down the tubes when you read background like this!

Chris Kyle was a lying piece of shit....An honorable man would not lie about knocking out Jesse Ventura to sell some books. And a court decided that Kyle was lying and awarded Ventura a $1.5 million verdict. He also lied about shooting some carjackers that never happened. Pat Tillman was a real "HERO". However, he was murdered in front of his brother.. Do you know why? Tillman started writting home to mommy telling her the USA was growing the opium and funding the terrorists and they fracked his ass....

Bass has contributed greatly to veteran causes. He uses these guys to generate interest and involvement of other monied people who will contribute also. To act like enjoying their outings is perverse is to miss the point entirely and only shows that hate overrides rationality. Should they have put on a bake sale instead? These people are proud of their service so I really doubt anyone here's approval or not means beans to them. They have faced death, so a little armchair derision by we heroes probably means little.

It really is hypocritical to hear continuous yelping about gun rights and the buying of guns and ammo, and then disparage people who would enjoy actual shooting, not to mention high accuracy shooting.

Odd group. So sensitive and caring...with so much hate.

You might want to rethink that.

Snipers enjoy what they do.

Many of them will end up in the employ of private security contractors......mercenaries.

As such they will pull triggers for the highest bidder.  That will not be the local neighborhood watch.

BUT...I hope you are not blaming the messenger - Chris Kyle. Granted our military is voluntary, so nobody is being forced to do anything, but he was just doing his job, and doing it very well. That's what snipers do - take out enemy combatants to save lives of their fellow soldiers. They do not make the rules, or determine who the enemey combatants are, but trust that their commanders do. In retrospect perhaps regrettably they trusted them.

As far as the video, very well done and thought provoking. Empathy is difficult especially when bombarded by propaganda relentlessly.

Apparently.....these guys get it

How is that attitude different than the one that says bullshit to putting myself in an Iraqi muslims shoes since they are all a bunch of terrorists and are 'at war' with everyone they live with. Kind of selective empathy and misdirected ire. Chris Kyle isn't the problem - the ZWO imperialist ruling class MIC is, he was just a tool. A very well trained and successful tool, but a tool nevertheless. But he's a liar? FOR FUCKS SAKE, look at all of our political leaders - that's the only fucking skill they have?

The ZWO elites must be laughing like hell at this post as they see some dumbfuck sniper, doing their work for them, get pilloried while they skate.

Apparently I misunderstood the point of the video - I thought it was about empathizing with others, putting yourself in their shoes, trying to understand motivations and actions, and not just to put the US in a bad light.

Retired disabled vet here (special thanks to all my fellow taxpayers) :-). I can tell you from first hand experience that not many GIs look forward to war. I know I was making a few rabbit pellets in my BDUs when my name came up as next to go in GW1. You know, the one where Saddam decided to invade an otherwise peaceful neighbor, Kuwait. The guys in green are not the ones starting these wars and are just pawns who do what they signed a contract to do, which is jump jump when told to do so. Most of us join at 18 yrs and have no clue about what we are getting in to. The majority do it out of some vague sense of patriotism, others do it to get out of the ghetto hell hole they lived in. If they stick it out long enough they make a decision to go career or return to what they were doing at 18. It is usually a fianancial decision because you have a wife and kids by then. I am by no means a war fan and threaten my boys at every appropriate moment that if they join the military I will personally attempt to whoop their asses. It is an idle threat and I will support them even if they decide to be a sniper. My 14 yr old is pure T hell on clay pigeons. I am rambling, my point is lay off the personal attacks on Kyle. He was a pawn just like I was, he just happened to be very good at his particular job. He paid for any transgressions. If you feel absolutely driven to attack the war efforts of the Western MIC... quit paying taxes, vote against the pubs and dems, go offf the grid, whatever you can think of that does not involve attacking a single individual who performed their duties well under the mistaken belief that they would change the world.

I have 3 spec ops type friends. One is an Army Ranger sniper. If the SHTF I will be inviting them to my bugout location before I think of calling my banker, guv representative or anyone but family. They are not scary people but they do tend to be real serious. I'm much more concerned about the orange haired guy who lives in his Mom's basement, has some weird Joker fetish and is likely to go off in the theater where I am watching a movie with my family. Chris Kyle was an American hero, so are my friends who still serve. Red arrow away all you armchair patriots.

I don't know what to say.. I respect your feelings.
The true heros where not me..  I carried weapons.

I was drafted.. but my mom told me you should think about being a conscientious objector.
I said mom I shoot so good no way I am going to war and not shoot back.
(the police action that we killed 90%+civilians)

The only true heros I can think of 4 of them were all conscientious objectors and were hell of braver than anyone else I have been privileged to know.

Like most kids I was bravdo, clueless and afraid(I wouldn't admit that).. so if someone said shoot I  did.
I know a few great shooters.. though I was one until.. I ran into a guy that hits x rings more than 90% of the time off hand at 1000 yards with a 308. He dopes wind like god is talking to him.
I tried to watch the clint eastwood movie got as far as the..kid and woman getting killed.. that was it for me.
why was she ready to let her kid die... maybe because someone had already killed everyone else she loved?

I remember one of my buddys back when I was in, showing me the wallet of a dead VC and the photo of the guys wife or girl friend, he goes wouldn't you like to do her? Something about wanting to sleep with the girl of someone you just killed seemed wrong.
She looked like a pretty neighbor girl I knew in the States.
It dawned on me these guys "the "enemy" are stuck here just like me and it's their country not mine.
I go what the heck am I doing? Mom was right! And I am stuck now!
Compassion big word to me it means see the other persons perspective.
I may have been a hero if I was shooting at people invading my home but I was in their country and they lived there not me.
Part of being a hero is when I see wrong stand up and I am doing my best to have you see how wrong killing is!
So Kyle is a hero? Maybe sounds like he was trying to do the correct thing, working with the kid that killed him.
If he hadn't died who knows.
He would have had a pretty hard road it would seem when you greatest accomplishment is how many people you killed and banker like to show you off at their partys.

Peace and love wins even if you die doing it.

Thanks for pointing out to some of the *ahem* less thoughtful members of ZH that most, if not all, 18 year olds are not well versed in geo-politics and the machinations of the MIC and their financiers.

"Lookin for a fuckin job and if I sign up can I get lucky enough to get stationed close enough to home to boink Suzy every other weekend." is probably as deep as the thought processes run pre-enlistment.

Post-enlistment, and I imagine those thought processes widened as they found out a trip to the sandbox was in store for them.

They're not killers. They should be working on your car, bagging your groceries, studying their classwork.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but WE are the killers. WE are the people that sat at home and didn't stand in front of our State Houses and Courthouses and marched on Washington to tell them that we were going to fuck up their world completely, totally and unequivocally and hold them personally responsible, without due process, if they didn't stop this utter bullshit.

Chris Kyle was doing his job.

You know, the one where Saddam decided to invade an otherwise peaceful neighbor, Kuwait.

Apparently, sir, you are unfamiliar with the fact that the Kuwaitis were stealing Iraq's oil by using horizontal drilling, with the assistance of US Coprporations, and that Hussein wanted to start selling his nation's oil for currency other than the USD.

How would you treat a neighbor that did this to you?

Hussein made several public appeals for Kuwait to stop.

The transcripts/summaries of the conversations between the US representative (a woman working for Bush I - I can't remember her name) and Saddam are on Wikileaks - look them up.  She basically told Saddam that the USA would not get involved in the dispute with Kuwait, even if it became military, in light of their "theft" of Iraqi oil. It was a set up by the Bush Crime Cabal big time and gave the USA (ahem, and their "coalition") the pretext to invade Iraq for the first time.  The .gov lies spewed in that one, to stir up the war histeria with the sheeple in the USA, included the story totally regurgitated by the MSM (with no independent investigation what so ever) about the Iraqi's killing Kuwaiti babies in their incubators.  Those deep state fuckers know no bounds when it comes to lying to acheive their war ends . . . . .
