As Seen On The Streets Of Manhattan Today

Tyler Durden's picture

After panicky New Yorkers stormed their local neighborhood Whole Foods to stock up for the "Blizzard of 2015" which subsequently was revised to merely "The Tempest In A Teapot of 2015"...

... not a creature was stirring this morning:

Except, of course, a Porsche.

And a Maserati.

In summary:

OH MY GOD!

New York City & especially Manhattan must be rescued with hundreds of billions if not trillions of taxpayer dollars from "flyover" states!

New York City (and its enclave of Manhattan) is the MOST IMPORTANT CITY IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD WITH THE CHOSEN-ITES!!!

Those are cataclysmic scenes akin to what I'd expect in End of Days!!!

Those poor Manhattan-ites!!! Those poor Chosen-ites! Those VIP CHEESEPOPES!!!!

.....stupid media sensationalism that the politicians buy into because it gives them power.

It's been going on for decades. For instance, any moderate earthquake that California has, and the rest of the country/world thinks that it's the big one or something, they think that the entire area is somehow shut down. I remember nearly a week of the rest of the country thinking that Southern California was closed for business after the Northridge quake. I lived only 15 miles away from the epicenter at the time and I did not even get out of bed, it felt that mild.

Can't represent Americans as self-assured, independent and capable of taking care of themselves... no no no no, can't do that, must justify trillions in government programs to help people survive... can't display American's even so much as returning a grocery cart on their own, no no no, can't do that, American's are helpless, need their gov't, must have more gov't....

It's fucking sick.

Scientists and environmental activists have been warning about disastrous weather events such as this for decades, but the far right still refuses to listen. Climate change deniers are literally sacrificing the entire future of the planet and creating a living hell for third world countries and future generations. It's easy for rich white privileged Americans to say they don't care about the consequences of climate change, but people in developing countries aren't so fortunate, and will have to put up with increasing droughts, floods and hurricanes because of our reckless burning of fossil fuels. I wish these right wing bastards could see the damage they're doing to our beautiful planet - maybe they'd find some compassion in their hearts and finally show some support for the bills we have been trying to pass for so long.

Climate change is real but what is unknown is whether man can do anything about it.  The earth has gone through periods of warming and cooling for millions of years.  Paying higher taxes and fees to the government won't do diddly squat.  We all know that, thus my initial comment that you must have forgotten the /sarc

British minister Baroness Susan Kramer and Taipei mayor Ko Wen-je in double gaffe over watchTAIPEI

(AFP).- A British minister was left red-faced on
Monday after giving the mayor of Taipei the gift of a watch -- a taboo act in Chinese culture -- only for him to joke he would "sell it to a scrap dealer". Ko Wen-je, a high-flying surgeon and mayor of Taiwan's capital, made the remark after he was handed the pocket timepiece by British transport minister Baroness Susan Kramer, who was visiting Taiwan on a trade exchange. When asked by a local reporter to comment on the gift, Ko said he might give the watch to someone else or "sell it to a scrap metal dealer for some money, because it would be useless to me." Giving someone a clock or watch as a present is traditionally taboo in Chinese culture due to the similar pronunciation of "giving a clock" and "attending an old person's funeral". Ko, who is a popular figure but known for his off-the-cuff remarks, drew a barrel of criticism from across Taiwan's political spectrum for his perceived rudeness.

The baroness was a one term member of parliament for the liberal party.

she was lucky there was a hung parliament that needed the Liberal party to make a coalition government.

As a consequence she was given the "baroness" title and life membership of the house of lords (upper non-elected house), further she then received a minor role in government.

Otherwise she would probably have received nothing, so she's above her level of incompetence and doubly rewarded.

Hey fuck tard.   Care to examine facts?   2013 saw the coldest temp ever recorded in the northern hemisphere.   Last year saw the coldest temp ever recorded on Earth.   Arctic and Antarctic ice are at record thickness and volume, and growing.   The Great lakes were frozen ALL YEAR long last year, a first in recorded history.   Global oceanic temps are declining.  Even your precious IPCC says there has been no warming for at least 17 years.   Yeah, no shit, there has been cooling as the US set over 100,000 RECORD colds last year.  Climategate is the most massive, organized and widespread scientific fraud in the history of the world, and even with THAT, they still can't show warming.   meanwhile over 30,000 actual scientists who weren't given billions of dollars in federal grants by the gov't to reach pre-ordained conclusions have said this is a giant hoax.  Their articles never seen the light of day as the editors of the climate journals are staffed by the high priests of global warming.   It snowed on the Sphinx for the first time in over a century, and I could go on for literally pages.   I love the way you inject race into a topic that has not one fucking thing in the world to do with race.   It's easy for racist shitheads like you to tell everyone else to do because that's what genocidal fucktards do to make the world "better" OR ELSE !!

Hey fuck tard, what exactly IS "climate change"?  Change is measured in units, so what is one unit of "climate change"?  Why do you have to keep changing the name of it?   What DOESN'T change?   Tell me fuck tard,   We know the earth was MUCH warmer in the past, and we know it was MUCH colder in the past, so the only constant IS change, so then what is the temperature of the earth "supposed" to be?   Who makes that determination?   You and your religious warming jihadists?  Hey fuck tard, how does the gov't stealing more money from us change the temperature AT ALL ?!?!?  Show me the mechanism.   The gov't takes 5% more of my income, gives it to food stamps, and that changes the climate how?  Hey fuck tard, show me a SINGLE piece of technology that exists that can change global temperatures just ONE damn degree EITHER direction.

I swear, you fucktards have one functioning neuron, and it's programmed by the media, and never used by the owner.

Oh, and your only recourse is to give me a thumbs down for attacking your religion and Cthulu, because the FACTS ARE NOT ON YOUR SIDE

Why are the same scientists and environmentalists silent about a monetary system that needs EXPONENTIAL GROWTH on a limited planet?

Why are the same scientists silent when cash for clunckers programs, the destruction of good cars, were created to spur growth?

Why are the same media that spread the climate change propaganda every day hailing additional growth?

Why are they becoming the more exstatic, the more planes Boeing is selling and the more planes are flying since planes are burning extremely dirty kerosine in 10k meters into the atmosphere?

Why are the scientists silent, when central bankers try to artificially create inflation, when deflation is good for the environment, because it would reduce fake economic activity artificially created by credit excess?

Where and when have people like you completely lost the ability to identify horrific logical inconsistencies and to raise questions?

About the climate change:

Earth have periodic variation of temperature going from Frozen Era too warmer Era cyclically.

It's not man-made and perfectly natural.

The lowest cycle know is sun activity who is about 11 years followed by a 60 years cycle and longer cycles above that.

Actually we enter in a small Frozen Era (for the next 60 years).

So take your climatehoax and your gubernment taxes away from me, thanks !

Statists like DeBlasio and Cuomo LOVE storms. It gives them a reason to loose their inner fascist. Did anyone else see the clip of Cuomo warning New Yorkers NOT to be found on the streets in their cars, because doing so would make them criminals? It was one of the most chilling statements I've seen from him, and that's saying a lot.

Growing up in northern NJ and spending several years in Troy, NY, I can remember some heavy snowfalls but do not remember ever hearing the hysteria from the MSM or the threats and bullying from the rulers.

As for the pictures of the Porsche and Maserati, those drivers had the right idea. With no other cars around it was a great time to go have some serious fun. I used to do the same myself, in a 1960s Fiat 4-door sedan. (All of 55 horsepower, if I recall correctly.) I loved going out with no one around and putting the car sideways just prior to making a left or right turn. That'd probably earn me a reservation in a FEMA camp if I tried that now. This place sure has lost its charm in the last 50 years.

Not for nothin, but Boston is getting dumped on.  They absolutely missed the forecast for NYC and the surrounding big cities, but the storm track seems to be just a little north of where they thought.  That's not to discount the moronic over-hyping, that's become a common theme, and it's dangerous.  Cry wolf too many times and people will not be prepared for when the real doosy comes calling.  It saddens me that people are waiting in line to get into the market.  My family wouldn't even miss a beat, even if a storm hits on our normal shopping day.  But then, I WAS a Boy Scout many moons ago.

perhaps the weather "steering committee" intentionally mis-led the storm dodgers - one destination spent mightily for their week's supplies, another got "unexpectedly" slammed (read: drama).

when one factors in who owns the weather channels, then the hyped named storms don't seem so unusual. . .

besides, those that are watching more subtle clues all along like to see just what they're naming their storm-babies.

'.......But then, I WAS a Boy Scout many moons ago.'

Yup.... 'Be Prepared'... but then once upon a time most Americans were independent and self reliant.  Sad how things have changed.

This storm was a bust - quick clan up but others have not been.  Eastern LI and New England are getting slammed.

Snowblowers make snow a lot easier to deal with but I'm astounded at how many people are clueless on how they work and can't get them started of have no idea how to change belts (or that they even HAVE belts that need changing).  Tell them to pull the spark plug and give it a shot of starter fluid and they look at you with a blank stare......  Of course there's always SHOVELS... lol

Sandy hit pretty hard but was not much of an issue if you were prepared.   Older burbs have overhead power lines.  Old trees.  You lose power at least once a year - if only for a short time (usually).

SO... if you're smart you have a generator and an easy changeover setup AND you know how to run it and test it regularly (opposed to all the fools whose expensive GENERAC setups blew up after a day -  or never worked in the first place.  You have food - and basics like toilet paper - on hand.  And when a big storm blows through you go around and collect the wood the town leaves cut by the curb after clean up - and then split it yourself - so you have free wood to burn in your fireplace if need be.  Odds are you've got a cord or two nice and dry sitting under cover (instead of rotting out by the back fence - too wet to burn).  How many people own an ax - much less know how to use iut these days (though a power splitter is MUCH easier and faster - worth it if you do it enough)

But then if you have a generator your furnace will work if you have gas or oil.  (Those things need electricity to work).  And you also have a bunch of 5 gal cans with potable water (just in case).  Of course you can forget about all that if you're IN NYC.  No place to store anything beyond a week's groceries in most co-ops and they're not going to let you run even a small Honda Generator on your balcony even if you had one (but really... you don't lose power IN NYC nearly as much as in the burbs. Low water pressure can be a real bitch though.

Everybody has a plan...until they get punched in the face.  The merchants of global chaos (White House, CIA, NSA, State Department, joint Chiefs, MIC corporations and contractors) know that the (taxpayer) dollars start flowing when the chaos gets going.  It actually IS a type of feudalism; the dot gov borrows money, signs our names to the loans, taxes us to pay them, and then enriches favored interests, while manipulating everyhting else to keep the wealthy in the lap of luxury, and thus going along with it all.

What is the difference between this and old-school feudalism, or Roman militarism / fascism?

"Martial law is right. They banned driving after 11pm in New York last night. "

I was in NYC last night.  Upper West Side 70's/Broadway.  Streets were a slushy mess with three or five inches of well churned icy muck.   NO snow plows to be see and no sign of them having been deployed.

Once through the Lincoln Tunnel and into New Jersey the roads were swpet absolutely clean all the way to my destination at the border of Paramus and Ridgewood.  Plowed and salted absolutely clean nearly everywhere highway and local as if there had been nothing but rain...

IMHO, the simplest possibilities ( multiple choice ) are:

1. DeBlasio and his cronies don't have a clue as to how to manage the city.  They simply don't know what fuck they are doing.  At all.

2. The civil servants and bureaucrats don't give a shit since they get paid what they get paid no matter what does or doesn't get done.   Maybe the civil servants and bureaucrats see that DeBlasio and his cronies are inept, or maybe they hate him and his staff as much as the Police do, and are sticking it to him just as the Police are.

3. NYC is fucking broke.  NO money.  None.  They can't pay for plow maintanence or gas or salt or whatever.

Whaaa?   NYC can't be broke?

Well, my mortgage has the property taxes rolled with the payment.  IF I don't pay the mortgage the property taxes don't go with it to the bank to be doled out by the bank/mortgage servicer.

I keep posting this link: http://www.zillow.com/visuals/negative-equity/#10/40.7649/-74.0108

Click around zip codes in Manhattan.  There is at least one zip code in Manhattan with a mortgage delinquency rate of 20%.

Staten Island has zip codes with delinquency rates of over 25%.

In multiple zip codes of Brooklyn and Queens the delinquency rates are in the mid 30's.

At least one zip code in The Bronx the publicly available info from Zillow states that the mortgage delinquency rate is 40%.

IF the mortgages are structured as my own is with the property taxes paid as part of the monthly payment, and if these numbers on Zillow are even remotely accurate; vast amounts of levied property tax is NOT being paid.  This would amount to hundreds of thousands of properties.   $5K or $10K or more a year in unpaid property taxes times hundreds of thousands of homes....

( ...And some people deride the 'lazy' Greeks for not paying their taxes.  LULZ! )

"For instance, any moderate earthquake that California has, and the rest of the country/world thinks that it's the big one or something, they think that the entire area is somehow shut down. I remember nearly a week of the rest of the country thinking that Southern California was closed for business after the Northridge quake. I lived only 15 miles away from the epicenter at the time and I did not even get out of bed, it felt that mild."

Embelish much?

The Northridge Earthquake was devastating and is hardly comparable to a snow storm. It killed 57 people and cost more than $20B.

If you were 15 miles away, guaranteed you were thrown out of bed.

Nope, I was 15 miles away, did not get out of bed. You can think what you like, I was there.

57 people died, most from from a single apartment collapse near the epicenter, which can happen even without an earthquake and is probably within the noise of the normal daily death rate in the greater LA area.

$20B is nothing compared to the land value in Southern California.

Northridge quake: 710 terrajoules of energy released

Average 8.0 earthquake: 63 petajoules of energy released

Yet every time you see media coverage of the Japanese dealing with their (usually much stronger) quakes, what do you see? You see coverage of life returning to normal.

America: Chaos at the slightest tremor!!!

Japan: Strong people come together to keep things functioning! How Noble!

Again, think what you like, it was overhyped. Most everyone else was back to work the next day.

I call BS asI lived in wood ranch in simi valley which  is about 15 miles west of northridge... maybe a bit more... and it woke up the whole street. Every frame on  the wall came off and my wall unit with my  computer monitor fell over. It also destroyed simi high school, making all the students share my high school (royal high school) for the rest of 1994. Also half of the 118 freeway in the valley was destroyed  as was the northridge mall. The hype was real and you are a idiot.

Nubee--Your point is generally well taken about the media and politicians using these storms for power and sensationalism but your comparison to the 1994 Northridge quake is way off base--your memory of that quake is faulty because that was a true disaster.  I was also about 15 miles away and we had some damage to the home and as another ZH person said I was violently thrown out of bed, not to mention for the people greatly affected--it killed 57 people  and was one of the costliest disasters in American history at $20 billion dollars.   An approaching storm monitored by our nanny state and sensationalizing "Storm Watch News Team" where citizens can prepare is much different than an earthquake that can terrify and harm without warning:

Not to threadjack/tinfoil hat, but this would be the perfect opportunity to move gold about the tunnel system.  No aerial recon is possible and the public is out of the transit picture.  I only say this because earlier this year, the Prince of England visited my building (ESB) and the whole place was cleared out for one reason or another.  The company has five floors and our xmas party was scheduled for that day at another site.  I cut out early to return to the desk and change my shoes for the ride home and literally bumped into his entourage in the lobby.  Visit was completely unannounced.  Very strange stuff indeed and nothing is as it seems.

No, an all-boys.  It was the prince that's married to whats-her-nuts.  Anyway, at the precise moment I cut out, they were announcing at length the winners of the company raffle, so all were rapt in the festivity, except me, because I understand probability, and opted to go home with my two free gin & tonics, and in the five minute walk, he's making his visit, and arriving there I literally bumped into his entourage.  There was a large humorless detective-looking black guy ogling me, and I'm like wtf bro this is my commute, you are the one out of place, and he kind of got it, and then I go to the elevator bank and turn and look, and there's th eprince with an entourage.  he's not tall.  The whole thing reeked of a security setup because that morning they rotated the normal security detail about the ground floor in addition to the now-obvious building-clearing measures.

Whether they masturbate into some K-town cold seafood buffet is tangential to my point, which is that TPTB go to great lengths to conceal their activities and these lengths effect each of us at a very personal level, disguised as "news" or "events".  Whatever this storm really conceals, they needed to cleaer out the fuckin city and they did that.  I spent two hours shoveling out, and was a fine easy powder, not nearly the worst I've seen, in fact last year was much worse in terms of daisy-chained storms of lesser inch-count but greater amounts of adverse icing and slushing to deal with at the worst of hours, and no general-mayor-dictated closures to speak of.  Yesterday the managers buzzed about the office calling "hey we won't be back until next spring, omg"...just sayin'

Yes, classic pods input.

The down-voter should be drawn and quartered.

Eh, it's all good. No doubt there are a lot of Puritans out there who will damn me to hell.

But hey, if Heaven is full of those people, do you really want to go there?

Everyone has impure thoughts. I just accept them.

An old saying... 'How much fun can I have before I go to hell?'

First thing I thought of when I read "Dirty sex is exciting" was the Beatles song "Why Don't We Do It In The Road".

And that's in the NE too.  We had a storm in Abq several years ago that was like the one predected for NYC, except they were only predicting a few inches, and we got 2'.  We're not used to that shit out here, so some people were left without heat for a week.  There was none of the panic, just people using blankets instead of heaters.

That storm was surreal though.  I was about to go to bed about half way through the storm when I saw a bright flash at about midnight, and the power went out, so I went out to see what was going on.  Turns out that it wasn't just a snowstorm, it was a thunderstorm too.  I've seen lightning in snowstorms, but this was an outright thunderstorm.  Very strange.  A neighbor came out also, and instead of freaking out, we rolled a giant 8' snowball and left it behind one of the local teenager's jeep.

Having fun in a 'disaster' situation is really improper.
