Obama and his ilk had two choices regarding the economy when he was elected. The first was to tighten our belt and let the economy re-adjust. But, if he followed that path, he and all his fellow progressives would have been voted out of office in 2012. He chose to pretend he was working on the economy and put his team to work driving down rates to raise asset prices. The benficiaries of those policies were obviously the folks who had assets. The idea of Summers, Bernanke and Yellen has been to create massive new wealth and then redistribute it...by doing this he would be the hero of the middle and lower classes and his party...it was supposed to keep his party in power.
The problem is it didn't work, at least not for Main Street. Its clear that the divide between have's and have not's is at a historical high. It's also clear that his give-away policies don't work. Most people in this country want jobs, not handouts.
Lastly inflated asset prices have put the world in a bind. When stock prices are dependent on printing money, when negative yields in bonds become attractive, and when home prices reinflate to a point where people can no longer come up with a down payment or afford the monthly payments it takes to buy a home, the economy is not running normally. We don't know when this ends badly, we only know it will end badly. I project it will end badly on Obama's watch.
Unrest around the world is focused on the US, deservedly or not. Currency wars will destroy weaker countries which will ally with the likes of Russia or China and a tectonic shift in the power srtucture of the world will take place and the US will be perceived as the bad guy...this is because Obama and his cronies want to be Oligarchs in a socialist system free of competition and they really care not about the little guy or the rest of the world. The way for them to their goal is ruin our free market economy that was once based upon competition and the strength of small business success. Progressives support massive government, labor unions, big business, and the elimination of competition that keeps markets strong.
Real estate sales are taking a nose dive right now. In my region January sales are down over 40% from last year (and my region is one of the strongest in the country). Lower rates, less PMI and reduced downpayment requirements will do very little to boost sales. I fear that this will be the first step of a new recession (depression?)
Obama must now live in a different world with the House and Senate in Republican hands. His grand scheme has just run into a road block called reality. I fully expect Republicans to crater to some of his demands as the situation gets worse (in my mind all but the fiscal conservatives are just as bad as progressives). He can't keep spending and pretending things are fine while racking up debt, the Repubs won't let it happen. I think time is quickly running out....

Worldwide, with the advancement of technology, there is simply to much capacity and not enough consumption. So, the ploy is to reduce US capacity and have some of that capacity soaked up by other players. How will that happen? War? Naw...nobody can afford a war. Monetary Policy? Naw...that doesn't work. Deflation...? Bingo. Deflation drives the dollar out of the Bretton Woods world currency status.
