OK, sanctions, and the oil price have hurt the ruble, but bear the following in mind. Russia is paying for goods and services with US treasury bonds with the dollar at an all time high. Russia is now requesting payment for its energy in gold - now at a bargain basement price. If and when the Chinese go over to a gold standard which is on the cards, gold will double in value, and Russia, China and India will all do very nicely. At the same time, western banks are on the verge of collapse, and a break up is imminent. Watch out for Germany crossing over to join the BRICS nations.
