“The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. ...We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society. ...In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons...who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind.

The latest war on comments comes courtesy of the folks over at Bloomberg. You may have noticed that the Bloomberg media empire recently went through a bit of a consolidation and redesign under the leadership of former Verge editor-in-chief Josh Topolsky. Buried among the vertigo-inducing fonts and amusing new 404 warning, is, you'll note, a very obvious lack of user comments. This is, to hear Topolsky tell it, because comments don't actually reflect your community:

"I've looked at the analytics on the commenting community versus overall audience. You’re really talking about less than one percent of the overall audience that’s engaged in commenting, even if it looks like a very active community,” he says. “In the grand scheme of the audience, it doesn't represent the readership."

.

.

Bloomberg is all about news

They don't want to hear readers views

Everyone tries

To point out their lies

And truth's not a fact they can use

The Limerick King

the MSM tonight covered the extreme execution video made by ISIS. (but of course we're not going to show that, quote) these people have simply one upped american television. will ISIS be on Tosh.O? maybe... is there a web redemption? i havent heard word one about drone killings in months? anything suspicious about that? sooner or later the USG is going to support an Islamic state. it just makes sense. the first order of business is to make you hate absolutely hate these vile evil bastards, (done and done) and then for our enlightened leadership to show YOU the way to the humanitarian endgame, you know, a world where we all get along. (usually after we either drop the nukes on them, or we recognize their human rights, sort of one two usually) i suppose the next thing is for American Muslims to come out, solidarity marches, then our dear leader says, (not obama despite what you think he hates them, but he could love them under the proper circumstances) its all about manipulating public emotion.

i was carried away, apologies.
to clarify, there is no video; there
need be none. do you get it?
meaning and value is communicated sans
any evidence whatsoever, the mechanism of
control has become sublime. to suggest is
to, wait, ... to Wonder is to Know. that is it,
the completely fucked dogma of speculation, hope and fear,
technology and securitization as a substitute or
addendum to credit creation, aka currency. word.
.
and
.
the mere suggestion based on an imagined
concern constitutes "just cause" to commit
any and all crimes beyond the reach of reproach;
that is what they call power.
.
they offer a collective religious experience,
one of many offers in the "market".
.
what was the point? oh, there is no isis beyond
the concerns of the prevailing cartel structure
extant in the world today. is is , got it. moar playas

latest proposal in the propaganda wars includes
the package and device where the mere suggestion
of an impulse to suspect anything constitutes
grounds for a national security action involving
genocide and mass, or more select, murder, perhaps
risking self immolation as an extra chance or price?
.
all legal by temporal and procedural necessities codified
into law long ago.
so, ye best be prepared to join right up and
carve your life into some demented abstraction that
could conceivably be useful to this very agenda.
to simplify, learn to invest in the new normal
where normal is whatever crosses your mind at any
particular instant.

that's Dick Cheney's one percent threshold, if there is even a one percent chance that someone, or some nation, can harm you, you have the right to take PREMPTIVE action. the leadership will always ( i think) be the ones leading us into depravity, and then enlightening us after the slaughter as to nature of our blood lust and our sins, and then starting the process over again. Obamas presidency was a bait and switch, he came on board promsing to cleanse us of our animus toward muslims (IRAQ), and instead hw prosletzyed on the american civil rights record. (same cathartic effect, instead of feeling sorry for genociding arabs, we focused our guilt on american blacks, but it leaves a vacuum, confronting just any guilt does not solve the problem with the national conscience.) and so worshipping the shrine of long dead civil rights advocates is a demented abstraction, though it need not be, Obama has done injustice to both causes. and because he murders Muslim children by drone, his own racism is evident, or if he is a Muslim as some say he is just part of their intra-religious warfare. and part of his problem is that he thends to say whatever crosses him mind at any particular instant, but that's not the problem most right thinking americans have.

you know mcluhan was the first to try to define the mass audience, which he asserted is not the same thing as a majority of public opinion. by my observation the mass audience is the group that leads the charge. the people in the front row at a rock concert. you can sell a rock group (or a politician) with very little popular appeal, if the followers are loud noisy and evident. neither bush nor obama has maintained a plurality throughout their terms. the mass audience is defined by entertainment values, so you either like the Rolling Stones or you don't care. you either like Obama or you could care less. (yes some people dislike Obama, but the rules are such that negative opinions do no register, you don't go to a Rock Concert to boo the act, and if you do want to protest the President they have special protest zones).  every now and then someone jumps the fence at the WH, (like the fellow who got into John Lennons house, see the docu Imagine) but these people are simply confused. as McLuhan said its like telling the peanut vendor at the ball game you don't like the way the team is playing. the answer (i suppose) is to create new mass audiences, (or as Kurt Vonnegut said late in life, my advice to young people? join a gang!) people are open and bendable (thank goodness) to other ways of thinking. its important that we remain open, and that the right thing presents itself, because i believe people usually choose the right thing.

Translation: normal people do not comment, so no need to have comments made or seen so as to prevent normal people from exposure to extremists, who will be dealt with accordingly soon. I'm making over $60 billion a month out of thin air working part time for the ECB. I kept hearing other people tell me how much money they can make at central banks so I decided to look into it. Well, it was all true and has totally changed my life. This is what I do..

Print Euros to buy interest bearing bonds

Wait until the interest on those loans can not be paid off by Governments unless they incur more debt

Wait until there is blood in the streets and print more Euros so I can buy real assets (using a proxy corporation) such as water rights, minerals and real estate.

Rig markets so that those real assets rise in value

Rise repeat

at some point those who hold the commodities get wise to your game and hold their products off the market. course that shouldn't bother any of us ordinary people, but just saying the transition from cheap gas to no gas is much shorter than the transition from expensive gas to no gas.

Tue, 02/03/2015 - 18:07 | 5740667 Vic Odd

Hmmm.... Maybe I can set up a paper derivatives market that bets on the price action of those commodities without any real assets changing hands, then, if necessary, naked short sell all day with my banker friends or exercise long options, depending on the phase of the cycle....that should be easier to rig.

Oh yeah I forgot. Already did that
