Caught On Tape: The Moment 58 People Aboard A Taiwanese Plane Thought It Was All Over
Earlier this evening, shortly after take-off from the Taiwanese capital of Taipei, a commercial aircraft with 58 people on board clipped a bridge and crashed into a river. As AP reports, the death count is either 2 (aviation authority) or 3 (Central News Agency) which is simply stunning considering the following unbelievable clip...
Taiwan's aviation authority say at least two people have been killed when a commercial flight with 58 people aboard clipped a bridge shortly after takeoff and crashed into a river in the island's capital of Taipei.
Aviation authority director Lin Chi-ming told a news conference that two people were killed. The country's Central News Agency said three people were killed.
Taiwanese media posted pictures of the plane in the water several dozen meters (yards) from the shore in the Keelung River.
CNA said the flight from Taipei to the outlying island of Kinmen lost contact with flight controllers at 10:55 a.m. and the fuselage landed in the Keelung River near the city's downtown Sungshan airport.

The rescue is still underway...

Looks like a metaphor to me.
Aren't disasters supposed to come in 3's? This is the 4th for a Southeast Asian airline.
What does that mean? It's different this time??
Technically speaking Taiwan is considered North East Asia. It is also not an ASEAN country.
Next on ZH: The top 23 reasons you should not walk to work!

If I was in that car, the feeling would be the equivalent scariness of kickflipping El Toro.
The rest will die from the water pollution.

Captain Surry Surrenburger still getting work I see.
I apologize for the pronunciation humor in advance, we are in a post "interview" world.
Truthers, how many light posts did you see shorn off? I think it was a fiberglass boat painted to look like a plane shot off with a trebuchet.
I wonder if Dick Cheney ordered a stand down at Norad for this too
wreckage is the tell there was a plane crash.
PA not so much. It 'vaporized', it 'corzined', titanium alloy does that when it goes really really fast.

I've never heard anyone say the wings should have cut through the 5 sided building. The fact that skin from the wing is wrapped around the guard rail on the edge of this freeway is interesting. The 5 sided building had nothing where wings should be, not even a scratch, windows in tact.
The emergency vehilcles will have run them over already.
That reminds me of the time I fell down the stairs.

looks like a dual engine flameout. Almost impossible without fuel contamination. The props do not look like they are spinning. Someone with better skills can review the footage see if props are both spinning at speed.
But, did the guy in the car get a flat tire?
I don't see any plane. It was just the Pentagon shooting a missile at its own building.

The company's chief engineer, Wing Dun Gon, thinks the aircraft may need more duct tape to restore it to full operational condition.
Ho Lee Fuk!
this is the real pilot name ? OMG!
Looks like he was trying to keep it over the buildings, then as he turned towards the river, the left wing lost lift and stalled. Miraculous if only two died!
Now, they better get treated with antibiotics. The locals try to cover their mouths when traveling across those rivers.
If one of the dead is a jew the pilot will be indicted for aggravated antisemitism.
We've got an anti-Semite! Holy shit!
Oh wait, this is Zero hedge, these fuckers are EVERYWHERE.
It took 27 minutes for such a response to appear in the middle of the night. Now I am reassured. I just wanted to be absolutely sure the AIPAC is on its post.
Thx.
Oh I love you man. You're probably one of those guys who actually thinks he's not racist, but of course, is. AIPAC? Ha. Good one. Another buzz word.
I do love on ZH that I'm actually considered a supporter of Israel. Anywhere else is my life, no, but on here I'm often confused as Menachem Begin
Do you wear an eyepatch?
That was Moshe Dayan...who became a crusader for peace in the Middle East, metaphorically putting a thumb in the eye of Zionists that (still) want to kill all of the Arabs. Let's be gracious enough to give cedit where credit is due.

Racism is a concept created by Zionists.

Right. Racism is one of their thought control words.
Silver is a Jewish name .... Phil Silvers .... I'm guessing you are a Jew .... shalom ?
All Jews are NOT Zionist. Many Jews are actually critical of the policies of the current Israeli Warmongering State.
All Zionists are NOT Jews. There are many Christian Zionists. There are even more Secular Humanist Zionists.
Silver Bullet wants you to believe that if you do not support the policies of Israel then you are a racist and anti-Jewish.
He impresses me to be just like a member of the Obama Administration, whom throws out the racism card whenever someone opposes a policy or policy recommendation.
He is a statist slime poser.
My boss, Jesus of Nazareth, is a Jewish Carpenter. Even He, as the Lord of all lords, and the King above all Kings, rejected the ZEALOTS, the Zionists of His day.
He will root out the fake Jews as He promises to do in Revelation.
Dude, there all fucking lizards. Every last one of them.
No. That is not true.
Whenever you read or hear the words, "all", or, "Never", in any statement then you must take the statement and examine it with due skepticism, extreme predjudice, as to its veracity.
I will rarely use those words and it is rather exceptional when I do.
While many are the lizards you write about, and I will be more than agreeable that there are far too many, there are even many more than that whom are not.
How do you define Jew exactly ? Considering that nearly every European has at least some Jewish blood flowing through their veins ?
How do you define "African-American"? Considering that everyone is descended from the same African woman from 600,000 years ago.
Roughly 1/4(28%). According to this survey.

But all Irish ARE alchoholics !
I'll drink to that :).

True, except at least one of his disciples was a Zealot (Simon, and possibly Judas too).
I think a lot of people on here don't understand - or are sock puppets who intentionally obfuscate - that being against the government of the state of Israel and its actions is completely separate from being anti-Semitic. They are two separate things. Israel is just a state like any other.
I'm sorry, but that doesn't follow the hasbara paradigm. An anti-semite is anyone who dares question the actions of Jews or Zionists...at all, in any regard.
It's a little more complex than that. Lots of Jews don't agree with Israel and plenty of non Jews agree with Israel.
I don't see how that's complex,..
To some that is very complex.
An anti Semite is anybody who disagrees with any Jew anywhere about anything.
Since it is impossible to agree with every Jew in the world about everything, therefore everybody is an anti Semite including all Jews.
See how simple it is?
Also, if you come up with an argument a Jew can't answer, you are a Nazi.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1990s_Post-Soviet_aliyah#Emigration_of_Jews...
Now, we see articles about them leaving France. Tribalism lives.
"I think a lot of people on here don't understand - or are sock puppets who intentionally obfuscate - that being against the government of the state of Israel and its actions is completely separate from being anti-Semitic. They are two separate things. Israel is just a state like any other."
I would agree with you except that at this site there is a tremendous amount of overt anti-Jewish hate, pure and simple. These people of course reflexively hate Israel since it is a Jewish state.
And if you need proof, see how an airliner accident in Taiwan has degenerated into a hate Isreal and Jew fest. There is simply no connection between Isreal, Jews, and this accident, but somehow look at what we are discussing. Should I list all the anti-Isreal and Jewish posts on this thread? The point is, why did anyone bring up Israel and Jews at all in this thread since their is ZERO connection if it's not overt obsessive bigotry and hate?
Here Here. On the actual subject - the plane crashed into a very narrow river. If the pilot managed to do that deliberately - and assuming the crash was not pilot error then that captain is a hero and deserves a medal. Anywhere else would have turned into an catastrophic inferno for the passenegers and people on the ground.
You must be new. Right after this site opened a gang of trolls showed up whose job was to distract and derail any discussion critical of the powers that be. Their favorite tools were accusations of antisemitism or racism, or to stir up an argument along right/left, Dem/Rep lines.
They were surprisingly effective. Lots of readers went for the bait hook line and sinker. The smarter posters left for more congenial pastures.
The trolls and lowbrows are still here and by now this whole line of discussion has become ritualized.
If I knew where they went, I might go there as well. But I don't know so I'm still a lowbrow on ZH. Just don't call me a troll.
@BraveSirRobin. You said: "There is simply no connection between Israel, Jews, and this accident, but somehow look at what we are discussing."
The label "antisemite" has the power to immediately stop any discussion on Israel and end the carreer of virtually any public person in the west (google "Jim Clancy", "Tim Willcox" who were both successfully character-assassinated after daring to criticise Israel).
"Antisemitism" is a weapon applied so outrageously often out of context that I allowed myself the chuzpah do the same thing but from the other direction. The explosive reaction of our pro-israel-anything friends tells me that I did right.
To learn about Jewish history and the roots of anti-semitism in Europe, read Israel Shahak's fantastic book, "Jewish History, Jewish Religion: The Weight of Three Thousand Years".
http://www.amazon.com/Jewish-History-Religion-Thousand-Eastern/dp/074530...
"AIPAC" is just a "label" whereas "antisemite" is not? I help you:
"AIPAC" actually is anything but a label. It is a well defined thing. Practically it is a terror organization, formally it operates legally predominantly in the US. Its purpose is to garner support for its genocide against the palestinians.
"Antisemite" is a (somewhat outworn but still effective) label predominantly used by Israel affiliated terror organizations such as above mentioned "AIPAC" as main weapon in order to character-assassinate people who dare question the legitimacy of "setllements" in previously ethnically cleansed areas.
This has nothing to do with crashing airplanes.

It collapsed in sympathy.
Planes disintegrate .... when passing through .... WTC towers .... too .... as when a raw egg hits the fan .... or try throwing a water baloon .... through concertina wire ! PS: Some people saw molten metal pouring from the WTCs .... I saw molten plastic !
Must not have had enough concrete/ steel melting jet fuel. Send that fucker back up and try again!

where was this amount of fuselage in front of the Pentacon.... Puzzling
That might be the first ever wings right down approach where almost everyone survived...I am getting really interested in physics after that. If true...a miracle of science.
'
What's that plane fuselage built out of, titanium?
High Density Extruded Aluminum alloy, as every other Commercial Jet.
Titanium is much too brittle and much too expensive for jet fuselages.
Heat generated by atmospheric friction is not a problem for the skins of subsonic Jets.
However rigidity (which is the the lack of flexibility), and Metal Fatigue is a problem which Aeronautical Engineers must deal with. Titanium, being brittle, is much more apt to fail due to Metal Fatigue during the numerous pressurization/depressurization cycles a commercial jet will experience during its operational lifetime.
Titanium is not an appropriate material for the fuselages of Passenger Jets.
It may be appropriate for the SR-71, the X-15, and the Aurora as they fly at Hypersonic speeds. (Mach 5+) but not for commercial jets.
most drawned under water
about 10 have been resqued so far
About 10 what? Fragments of fuselage and bodies?
I'm guessing they're saying the deaths were drowning and that 10 people were rescued. Either that, or he's telling us his grandmother's secret spaghetti sauce recipe.
thats correct
several hours ago BBC radio reported that about 10 people had been rescued and the rest still under water in different parts of the plane's fuselage
Your post was pretty rough around the edges. I got the gist though.
Damn...Sadly 9 dead so far and some 30 unaccounted for. Still, does look like the pilot tried to avoid the buildings...not sure if the pilot survived, but should definitely get a commendation for trying to save more lives.
If the Malaysian Gov't or Australian gov't conducted this rescue, they'd still be looking for the plane on the other side of the bridge.
LOL...or another country, for that matter.
This guy wishes he could jump in a river ! http://i.4cdn.org/b/1422984895020.webm

Too much "Fracking" going on in Calabria ?
Just dashboard cam things.
Looks like an engine failure after takeoff and subsequent mishandling. This is the most critical manoeuvre that a pilot faces and extremely precise handling is required. There is a single engine best climb speed (V2), get below this speed, and you won't get the certified climb gradient to allow you to clear obstacles. Get even slower and you go below VMCA (minimum control speed) - below this the rudder cannot counteract the yaw of the power asymmetry. Noting the roll in the video, that's what looks like happened.
There was a very similar training accident in Darwin in 2010 ( http://www.atsb.gov.au/publications/investigation_reports/2010/aair/ao-2... )
Perhaps he was trading airspeed for height in an attempt to clear the buildings, got too slow and lost rudder authority.
Viagra works pretty good .... for my rudder authority !
one must have sympathy for the pilot(s) in a situation like this.....you can train and train, but nothing prepares you for a butt-clenching real emergency, and if the control margins are that thin (I'm taking your word for it, i'm not a pilot), then <insert preferred deity> help him(her). sounds like there was a lot of skill and a lot of dumb luck making it to the river.
sheesh....i wish the morons on this site would give it a break.
The margins are indeed thin, you would only expect 1.6% climb gradient (certification says you should get 2.4%, for test pilots and new aircraft) The max weight you can take off with is worked backwards from the most limiting obstacle on your intended flight path. It is quite common to take of at the performance limits of the aircraft. As I said, extremely precise handling is required when you are operating close to the perrformance envelope of the aircraft.
Our company trains down to visibility of 125m for takeoff (some operate down to 75m). Thats when an engine failure at the stop/go decision point gets interesting. You have to detect the swing & apply the correct rudder seeing only 3 runway lights and rotate off the runway without any outside reference. We train this at max certified takeoff weight and maximum crosswind + downwind on a wet runway.
There isn't any time to clench, you are completely focused on controlling the aircraft in this situation.
Thanks for the informative post...
Watch the video again.
Look at the Tail end of that aircraft and you can see, clearly, the damage to the port side rear stabilizer.
(Freeze the video at 20 sec.)
Or freeze this video at 4 seconds.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=eJNAx4BsUtE
This had nothing to do with an engine failure.
I think the point was to guess why the aircraft clipped the building in the first place. I looks to me that the props are rotating, but the wing configuration is clearly clean - no flaps are visibly extended. So, I think their premise is loss of engine power = loss of airspeed, = loss of altitude which results in the aircraft not being able to clear the building. I think that is what earlier posters were getting at.
Look at the REAR of that Aircraft. The Rear has the Rudder and two stabilizers...usually orthogonally positioned. When the plane rolls to the point where the view of the belly is almost perpendicular, THEN PAUSE IT.
You will notice that more than One Half of the Port Stabilizer is MISSING.
It was knocked off during a collision...with a bridge...that collision which was NOT SEEN in this video as it had happened previously upon takeoff.
Both engines are running. It has nothing to do with the rudder. It has nothing to do with the engines.
Freeze this video at 4 seconds. I am looking at it as I write this.
Don't see that every day.
If that type of event happened daily then you still would not be seeing it every day as there would be no airline industry.
That is sooooo 2014.
The wingtip skiffed the roof of that van and whosever was in it had a lucky escape
Better video looks like he might have took it down to miss power lines
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=eJNAx4BsUtE
That's a much clearer video. Right at the start it looks like he is descending a a high rate with quite a high nose attitude (slow). Perhaps he was trying to stretch the glide over the road to the river and got too slow. Could have been a stall & wing drop or loss of rudder authority.
I doubt he would have seen the pylons & wires. Unless the light is just right they are almost impossible to see which is why they kill so many ag pilots and low flyers.
Clips that van on the bridge too. Didnt see that first time around.
STAGED EVENT ALERT:
Looks all fake to me:
a) The plane turns too quickly in my opinion.
b) Where are the 55 survivors swimming about or resting on the river bank being treated?
c) You would expect quite a number of survivors to be sat on the bank in shock and relief. It appears the rescue has been going on for some time already. I count 7 rescue boats in the water and thus the ‘incident’ must be at least 30-60 minutes old by the time of the shots.
d) Everyone is standing or working and all appear to be male.
e) No other debris floating in the river or washed up either.
f) Also 3 dead out of 58, when a plane hits water at over 100mph sounds too good to be true, bones break at a 7mph impact. The plane that hit the Potomac river was smashed, only a handful got out alive.
g) 55 people would not fit in the visible section of the fuselage in an air pocket.
h) 55 people are not coming out alive from a submerged and broken up fuselage, full of tangled wires, furnishings, luggage thrown about!
i) The river rescue would therefore be a drill.
Nice bit of video editing though. Maybe someone should do a technical analysis on the footage frame by frame.
Wag the Dog baby. Indian Scalps for sale on eBay - sleep with one eye open. Peace
Don't you have anything better to do with your time?
Really. FFS...
There are 2 independent videos, the one in the article and this one: http://youtu.be/eJNAx4BsUtE Both show exactly the same thing.
Your point (A) doesn't take into account a stall & wing drop or loss of rudder authority. It looks exactly as you would expect for an incipient spin. When an aircraft lets go it is a violent out of control manoeuvre.
Sorry to disappoint, but the crash looks VERY real.
Looks real to me. Remember this crash involving a cargo jet a few years ago? Looks like cargo shifted and it stalled.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ColjRb3gHrk
The video in the article is a Television broadcast of infromation garnered from the video on YouTube.
This had nothing to do with "loss of Rudder authority" as the port rear stabilizer is damaged causing the resultat roll to port due to the lack of lift from the Tail..
There are three motions in any aerodynamic vehicle...Pitch, Roll and Yaw.
Yaw is controlled by the rudder.
Pitch is controlled by the Rear Stabilizers.
Roll is controlled be the alierons on the Wings.
This is BASIC KNOWLEDGE taught at any Pilot Training School in the World. It is as basic as the four forces acting on any stable aerodynamic vehicle.
You can actually garner a rudimentary education BY READING about this in FLIGHT DYNAMICS...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_dynamics
The Rudder on any aircraft controls the Yaw, the direction pointed.
One half of Port Side Rear Stabilizer is missing....
There is NO LIFT whatsoever. The plane in that misconfiguration will ROLL....TO THE PORT...WHICH IT DID.
The Alierons on the wings do not have that surface area, thus the force necessary, to counteract that.
Watch the video frame by frame as I have.
YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE WRITING ABOUT. YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FLY.
FUCKING READ BEFORE YOU WRITE.
Wow, all caps and shouting. Why the anger and hostility, seriously? I was trying to pass on some knowledge about what may have occurred based on two grainy video's and historical precedent in this type of accident
I've watched the videos and don't see any external damage to the aircraft prior to the roll. All flight controls look like they are intact until it crosses the white centreline of the road, perhaps it hit a lamp post? You know those black strips at the front of the wing and the elevators are pneumatic de-icing boots? Are you confusing those? If it was missing half an elevator, how was it flying wings level until just before it rolled.
Perhaps it is you that doesn't know as much as you think you do. Go google Vmcg Vmca. and look at the link I posted earlier.
I guess the last 20+ years of my life sitting in high capacity aircraft has been a dream. You seem incredibly sure of your own opinion, why qualifies you as an expert opinion? Have you ever considered that perhaps it is you that needs to engage the brain prior to typing.
It looks real to me and much of what you say doesn't, at least to me, make a lick of sense.
There are plenty of online debunkers who will do a thorough job on analysis here, but the stills show no floating bodies, parts or clothes etc, so that would be a new point j) on my list...
Give it 24 to 48 hours and we'll see what better informed people have to say and come up with.
My point a) could be wrong, but I see no rudder out event or full ailerons to provide this roll and dive, not a stall or weight shift either - I'll make this new point k).
Also another new point l) the car on the bridge hit by the wing tip does not have damage consistent with this type of impact, looks like footage of a bog standard car roll-over to me. I'd expect to see a big scraping slice as the wing tip clips the car.
http://rt.com/news/229135-taiwan-plane-crash-video/
Anybody got any intelligent comments about each point made, apart from a)? In absence I'm calling it - a staged and faked event.
I guess they got away with the gold.
Maybe someone should do a technical analysis on the footage frame by frame.
Already did. It is quite real.
Well shit, glad I wasn't on that commuter.
Coast to Coast reported 12 dead, but still pretty good considering.
Reminds me of the plane that went down in D.C. back in 1980-1981, Lenny Scutnick (sp?) jumped in to save a Stewardess, Howard Stern the next morning joked that the Stewardess's asked "Would you like ice with your drink?" right before it crashed into the frozen river.

In other news a nearby building has completely disintegrated into its own footprint at amazing speed from structural damage due to seismic disturbance from the impact. No wait, it's still up. Okay, now it's down. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltP2t9nq9fI
In US, the "luckiest van driver in the world" that had its roof pierced by the wing would end up being ticketed for reckless driving and not taking proper evasive steps
Assets would be confiscated
Blood and other DUI tests
And then sued by the plane passengers, airline, and crew
damn was he flying a commercial airliner or dusting crops?
wt us wait. however it would be a sheer luck, if "only" 3 dead passangers would be the price.
That is some seriously good piloting...well not the bridge hitting part...but he stuck the landing didnt he?
One thing I noticed.....for an airline commuter that has just taken off, I don't see much in the way of deployed wing-flaps. I know these get retracted after take off, but not typically until sufficient altitude and airspeed are attained. From the video, it appears that neither of these was reached before approaching the buildings. Could be the pilots reacted by trying to pitch the nose up to increase altitude, which only made the low-lift condition worse, even at full throttle. Again, hard to tell for sure, but it sure looks like the wings are already trimmed for straight-level flight at altitude.
Is it just me....or does it seem like a majority of these regional commuter accidents involve prop-driven platforms? The only jet-powered commuter incident I can recall from recent memory is the one where the pilots mistakenly attempted take-off from a closed runway that was undergoing repairs.
It's called stall combined with severe and sudden cross wind.
@airlivenet: ALERT 23 confirmed dead in Taiwan plane crash, country's Civil Aeronautics Administration says - @NBCNews http://t.co/vZ9WfXXV5j
Looking at the video I would not think there would be any survivors. Initial reports were probably only of bodies recovered so far.
reminds me of a joke, how do you make kosher flambe? stick a bunch of jews on a Malaysian airliner.
Reminds me of the Joke of the sick, twisted Jew hater who goes by the name of sidiji on Zero Hedge. BTW, you are wanted at your office - Adolf Hitler is calling.
How do you turn a human tragedy in Taiwan into a sick, tasteless attack on Jewish people? Not even a speck of remorse or sympathy for the dead and their families. Sick indeed.
Some people just have no sense of humor....ok to even things out, here's one you'll like: how do you make 10 million Palestinians? Start with 20 million, genocide 1/2 and put the rest in concentration camps in Gaza and the West Bank. haha I thought you'd like that one.
Fixed:
how do you make 10 million Palestinians? Start with 20 million, suicide 1/2, and blame it on the Israelis.
Stow the pro-khyke rhetoric. They control you. They will stab you in the back if given the chance. Read their talmud you moron.
