The unemployment rate is extremely misleading and grossly overstates unemployment. The average "unemployed" American man performs a myriad of jobs during a typical day that aren't taken into account by official statistics. Example:
- Acquiesce to carnal desires of morbidly obese wife (animal husbandry)
- Roll out of bed at 10am, take aspirin for pounding hangover (nurse)
- Crack first beer of day (bartender)
- Pop Eggo in toaster (food service)
- Wrestle dog for Eggo after dropping on floor (professional wrestler)
- Kick dog after losing (animal trainer)
- Apply dressing to dog bite (EMT)
- Fire up Netflix (projectionist)
- Threaten neighbor kids for disturbing Laverne & Shirley marathon (civil servant)
- Etc., etc.
And that's just before noon, my back-of-a-napkin calculations put the real unemployment rate at roughly negative 1470%. Rag on Obama all you like, but America has never been better.

A little upset at ZH here. When the unemployment rate was falling but the participation rate was also falling, ZH made it a mission to focus on the participation rate. Today the participation rate creeped up, which is very welcome for a change. Not one word from ZH on that! I thought ZH is better than that.
