Saturday Satire: Getting Serious About Keeping Children Safe

A recent outbreak of measles has concerned citizens questioning how we can protect the lives of innocent children from neglectful, or even downright abusive, parents. Some have argued that vaccination should be mandatory, since an unvaccinated child presents a danger to himself and others. After all, what is government for if not to protect life and minimize danger?
Even libertarians, who tend to reject government coercion on the grounds of individual liberty, have begun making the case for mandated vaccines, on the grounds that going out in public with a contagious disease constitutes aggression against others, and that the failure of parents to adequately protect their children constitutes abuse. The small reduction in freedom involved in having a government agent forcibly plunge a needle into a small child against its parents’ will is a small price to pay for the protection of life and liberty for everyone else.
These arguments are very well put as far as they go, but it is a bit baffling that pundits and policy makers seem content to restrict their concern for young life to so narrow an area. The measles outbreak has so far affected only about 100 children, with no reported deaths. If it is worth creating new safeguards against this sort of thing, why is society still unwilling to address the largest cause of accidental child deaths in the country: car accidents.
In 2010, 4,419 children were killed in motor vehicle accidents. The number merely injured, while not reported, is doubtless many times greater. Could there be a more senseless waste of human life? And yet this statistic is rarely reported, it makes no appearance on 24 hour cable news stations, it does not grace the front page of the New York Times or any other paper of note. It goes largely ignored, a travesty, since a solution could so easily be implemented.
I would therefore like to make the modest proposal that very young children, let’s say under the age of three, be banned from riding in automobiles. Think of the lives that could be saved by such a minor reform! Three-year-olds have no school to attend, they have no appointments to keep. Doctors could make house calls if necessary. There’s no reason why a child under three ever needs to ride in a car, when doing so poses so great and obvious a risk to its personal safety.
Of course, there will be drawbacks to this, as any, proposal. Parents will be inconvenienced. One will have to stay home with the child, or else contract with someone else to do it. But who is willing to stand up and argue that these minor annoyances are more important than the life of a child? If we save even one life, doesn’t that make it all worthwhile? After all, you can’t put a dollar value on survival.
I am sure there will be some pushback against this idea from that breed of selfish individualist who thinks that the slightest imposition on his freedom is more important than greater societal concerns, but these descendants of Neanderthals are fortunately still a minority, and if they make a fuss it will be easy to reveal to the media and to the world their callous disregard for their own children, and those of other people. There can be no question, after all, that placing a young child in so dangerous a position is simple abuse, and nothing less.
And while we’re on the subject, I have still another proposal to protect child safety: the outlawing of organized sports for children. There should be no objection to this whatsoever. After all, sports are meaningless pastimes. Whereas automobiles are a major feature of the modern economy, indispensable for maintaining our standard of living, sports contribute nothing except entertainment, which we can easily get from other sources in the modern cornucopia of Netflixes and iPads. Dozens of children die in sports-related accidents every year, with thousands being seriously injured. You’re going to tell me that a youth soccer league is worth all that carnage? Wouldn’t it be better if they just picked up a book instead? I was unable to find statistics on book-related injuries, but I assume they must be very low.
It’s time for the senseless death to stop. It’s time we started protecting our children from the endless horrors of the world that surrounds us. Simple and strong legislative action on the two ideas outlined above could save thousands of lives a year, with only minimal reductions in individual freedom. Parents who violate the prohibitions can then be branded as the felons and abusers they unquestionably are, and their children could be placed safely into the hands of the state, where they will be sure to come to no harm.
Anyone who opposes such sensible reforms can only do so for reasons of callous self-interest, or willful ignorance of basic science. Their opinions can safely be disregarded, while the rest of us move forward into a safer, healthier tomorrow.

Some argue that vaccine fears are unjustified, this still leaves the fact that our government is protecting corporations instead of the people. Once again, they are forcing many to spend money against their will, thus subverting the natural market flow. That is complete fascism. Plus if vaccines are as harmless as they want us to believe, why do they need this law?

I believe that in 2005 there were no deaths from measles in the U.S. but there were 86 deaths from the vaccine.

Everything is far more sinister. Money is only a means to an end, the end being power. Virtual realities prove this out. People vie for power even when no money is involved. I am an advocate of an open source society, but the power thing does not go away like many believe. How we solve the problem, I don't know, because any system man has ever proposed has been messed up by this vie for power by a small group of people. This is why governments need to be kept small. Decentralization is the only thing that can accomplish the suppression of these oligarchs, we also need to enforce this upon business and not allow anyone or thing to get too big or else they take over.

Nah, you only put unvaccinated people at risk. And only if you catch a disease that has a vaccine. Most common infectious diseases are rarely fatal in healthy individuals. There is a chance that you are putting your child at risk when they are vaccinated. Since the beginning of the vaccine era, rates of Autism, ADHD, and other behavior disorders have skyrocketed.

Precisely! My theory is that many of the current mental issues afflicting our children are due to disposal diapers. It was much different when cotton diapers were the rule. As disposables began to dominate, so too did these once rare conditions bloom.

I think the elevated autism rates are related to the use of synthetic oxytocin. If you look at the chemical makeup and what it does, this makes a lot of sense. Lets do some simple math here on the topic rather than throw out blanket statements, OK? In 2014 there were about 600 claims filed for vaccination injuries (http://www.hrsa.gov/vaccinecompensation/statisticsreport.pdf). Not all of those will be death either, only a fraction of those resulted in deaths. So now how many people are vaccinated each year? The only number I could find is over 10 million (https://vaers.hhs.gov/data/index). So lets say it is 10 million. 600 out of 10 million is 0.006%. So yeah, I can see how we have a big problem. LOL
There are bad batches and everyone will react differently, yet the statistics say that you have a better chance at dying in a car wreck than being killed by a vaccine. Yet people are driven by fear which results in this irrational type of thinking. Good job in spreading the fear man!

In my opinion, this product seems to be a good example of why it is a false dichotomy to frame the debate/controversy in terms of PRO or ANTI vaccine.
This is an oversimplification of the issue. But it is an effective approach to setting up straw-men arguments for ridicule.
In my job I have run 1000s of HPVs. The vast majority of strains are harmless. A few strains have been linked to cervical cancer however only less than 10 % of women with these strains will get the cancer after more than 20 years from exposure. I have seen many women with cervical cancer but I have noticed they also have other risk factors for cancer. Obesity, diabetes, poor life style choices. If would be of more value if there were studies why these women got the cancer vs vaccinating blindly a population introducing risk of other side effects. This is simply human experimentation and they will discover a lot from those who blindly submit their arms for this shot.
Also I have noticed over the years the prime cancer causing strains I saw were 16 and 18. Now because of this shot, I don't see them too often but all the other cancer linked strains are now filling in the void.
Please people, wake up. I'm in the belly of the beast and am observing the purposeful destruction of our health by mad psychopaths. Educate yourself and beware.

Way to cherry pick data, truth is, there are no scientific tests proving vaccines even prevent the disease they are intended for. That is a fact. Another fact, there are NO long term studies validating the safety of these products. Another fact, there are many instances of outbreaks in fully vaccinated communities, giving the concept of vaccine herd immunity some doubt. I could go on but people like yourself don't like facts and will cherry pick the govt/pharmaceutical sound bites that makes them feel not so ignorant for not having researched vaccines before they exposed their loved ones to them.

We as kids all rode our horses together without helmets. Got bucked off numerous times and were pretty banged up but no broken bones. We all went into jumping and they required us to use helmets. Unfortunately, the early designed horseback riding helmets had a hard fixed bill. It was found to have cause numerous spine fractures when someone face planted hitting the bill that wouldn't give. They now modified that design but I wondered how many people would have been better off without one. Christopher Reeve was wearing a helmet when his accident occurred. Nothing is foolproof. I am a terrorist. I refused to immunized my children against chicken pox. Instead I sent them over to a friends house for a play date when I found out her kids were all infected. I freely admit I denied big Pharma an income stream. Soon to be a capital offense.

While in the military, we were required to get vaccinated every year (plus who-knows what else they gave us) but I got sick at least twice every freakin' year. Even got a decent case of yellow fever after being "vaccinated" - that was fun. Since exiting the education/military-industrial complex and being unvaccinated for 20 years, I can count the number of times I've been sick on one hand, and when I have gotten sick the duration for me was about 1/3rd what it was for others with the same cooties. I guess I must be a threat to society! (or at least to all the ass-hats fawning over the junk science of the efficacy of vaccines).

If you are vaccinated you have a 15% chance of not being immune even if you think you are. If you are vaccnated, as opposed to catching childhood measles, you do not have lifetiime immunity and your immunity becomes ineffective at an unknown time. That increases your risk of contracting the disease as an adult which is more dangerous. Be an idiot and get a measles vaccine if you want. But don't try to impose your choice on me because you are to fearful to flll your head with facts.

If you think vaccines are safe google the Japanese vaccine study. There's only one famous study..unintended consequences. There should no longer be a question.
The problem is if you don't have records of the immunization, your kid can't go to school. Which is bullshit. Your kid can't infect vaccinated kids unless the vaccine itself isn't effective. The most vaccinated people I know are the least healthy. My mother in law gets a flu shot every year and every year she gets the flu. What is the point other than handing your money over to a doctor.
I missed a lot of vaccinations when I was a kid because we moved around a lot. I never get sick. I've never had a flu shot, and never had a real bout of flu. I may have caught the virus, but fought it off very quickly.
The dumbest vaccination is the chicken pox vaccine. It doesn't prevent shingles and doesn't do anything other than stopping a short inconvenience for your child. Chicken Pox is a learning disease. Your body learns how to fight off the virus and creates antibodies that can help fight other viruses.
It may sound cruel, but those who die from disease can no longer pass on their weak genes. Survivors pass on the ability to fight off disease and become immune. Essentially becoming a living vaccine.
The more you learn about vaccines, the more you will never want another shot in your arm. Mercury, toxic chemicals, latent viruses are just the start. Trying to eradicate polio gave 100 million + people cancer. You can't explain the rise in asthma, hyperactivity, juvenile diabetes, and autism with anything other than the increase in the number of vaccinations.
Like fluoride, vaccinations are government control and automatic revenue for the medical industry. It doesn't matter how many lives are ruined, or how many die from bad drugs. As long as the pharmaceutical industry gets their blood money, its all awesome.
Got chicken pox in my mid 20's. Survived, had to cover a few mirrors and beg Mum to go shopping for me -looks ugly but far less miserable than a very serious bout of food poisoning that shut down my entire work department (25 folks) after an xmas function some years back...that was one illness I never want to repeat.
I don't know how it works today, but over 30 years ago when my kids started school they gave us little cards for the nurse to fill out and the doctor to sign. Not wishing to bother the healthcare practitioners with such trivia. I took care of that matter myself. I'm pretty sure they don't actually look at them. Nobody suffered any ill effects.
Meassels outbreaks were unheard of until some assholes entrusted this nation to some weak brained coke sniffing negro who thought it would be a good idea to teach whitey a lesson by allowing 100,000 subhuman scumbags with lice dripping off their eyebrows and puss ooozing out of their ears and eyes to enter the countr illegally without first subjecting them to medical exams.

Here's my"layman" hypothesis. Vaccines are shipped in multi-dose vials. The preservatives are mostly heavy metals and sink to the bottom. Once in a while needle length, vial position/angle etc, allows the preservatives to comprise the majority of the dose. This causes the well known well documented issues.
little known fact: if you're very wealthy, you can have fresh vaccines delivered without preservatives.
its funny and we arent particularly wealthy but when our kids were vaccinated in chicago we had the mmr administered separately, not as a single mmr dose.
All insurance companies, health, life, auto, home, would be most supportive of your proposal. Risk of any kind is evil to their way of thinking. I'm sure they would be more than willing to lobby for laws and regulations to enact such measures. Would we still be able to call such riskless behavior LIFE?

The funny thing right now is that people can't form an argument around "rights" because the don't understand what it means anymore. They think of rights as plan benefits owed to them by the welfare state. The right to a free education. The right to affordable healthcare. The right to not be slightly inconvenienced . The right to pay for monopoly provided utilities (net neutrality). Anything someone else does to suggest otherwise is an infringement on their benefits package someone is selling them.

When i was young, it was a good thing to get rubella because that gave resistance to red measles. Chicken pox and even mumps were good to get when younger because. They are childhood diseases and then as now the death rate is still one or two per hundred thousand.
I notice too, that one of the waysfor the power structure to stayin place is for the people to have their thoughts controlled by the ruling class. Obama and Holder had to know that in allowing thousands of unvaccinated illegal alien kids into the country that some would have serious transmittable diseases. They further knew that a lot of US yahoos would not have had their kids vaccinated and those kids would get the diseases. In exquisite irony now Obama and Holder can blame the mouth-breathers for not having their kids immunized. You think Obama and Holder care one whit about your kids? Not unless they are black, brown, or pray towards Mecca five time a day.
Some of those disease might be a lot more insidious and dangerous than measles.

I contracted Chick Pox, Mumps, Whooping Cough and Measles before I was 9 years old and I got through it all without any problems, and I now have a lifetime immunity to them all.

I always check the kids to see if their aluminum intake is low and if it is, well then off to the Doc they go for a healthy dose of Aluminum adjevant in their vaccines.
Nothing helps a growing body more than proper levels of aluminum and you can't expect the local water flouridation program to meet or exceed those needs.

I firmly believe this end of the world as we know it measles epidemic is being pimped by the controlled media for the benefit of big pharma and the government. The sheeple are scared. I mean really scared, and big massa guvmint is there to protect us all from any and all bogey men.
For myself, I analyze the risks versus the benefits when allowing myself to be vaccinated. For example, I ran a filthy screw 1/2 inch into my foot and elected to get a tetanus vaccination.
As for flu vaccines, no way in hell. My perfectly healthy elderly mother took a flu vaccination and w/in 36 hours developed a hideous cough which led to a relentless chain of medical complications that eventually led to her death.
I had the measles when I was twelve...still here.
I had the mumps when I was thirteen...still here.
I had chicken pox FOUR times...still here.
I had mono in Belgium from screwing some strange...damn near killed me....still here.
I could argue that strange is more dangerous than your common illnesses.

fast forward to today, there're children, one shower, one change of clothes from the amazon rain forest sitting next to my grand children in school.
for me there seems to be a system in place, (albeit cronized, like all of Americas systems), it seems to be illegal for children to attend school without vaccinations, so if children who are vaccinated get sick, the vaccinations didn't work, that's why theres lawyers.
if your children get sick, and weren't vaccinated, well that's why there are lawyers.
change the system, take the cronizism out of vaccinations, take the tax-dollars out of the hostage situation in the public school system, vaccinations are available to everyone, and mostly free, theres your choice.
you either didn't care enough to get your children vaccinated, or you think it's in your children's best interest not to be vaccinated, it's your choice, the penalty for your choice could be extreme, to you, not me, as it should be.
