Small Business Optimism Tumbles, Misses By Most In Over 2 Years
But the shadow of crisis has passed... it appears the engine of job growth in America is sputtering as NFIB Small Business optimism dropped from 100.4 to 97.9 (against an extrapolated 101.0 expectation - the biggest miss since Nov 2012). Across the board the data was disappointing with the percentage of firms expecting a better economy falling to 0%, and the number of employers anticipating job creation drops to just 14%.
Not what Obama and The Fed were looking for... must be the weather...
This is the biggest MoM drop Since Nov 2012
Breakdown:
- 13% of employers think it is a good time to expand
- Employers anticipating job creation falls to 14%
- Percentage of firms expecting a better economy falls to 0%
- Firms anticipating higher selling prices falls to 3%
- Firms seeing increased capital spending falls to 26%
- Firms planning to boost inventory falls to 2%
- Firms expecting better sales falls to 16%
- Firms viewing inventories as too low rises to -1%
- Employers with jobs not able to fill rises to 26%
- Firms seeing easier credit conditions unchanged at -5%
- Firms expecting positive earnings trends falls to -19%
- Firms expecting compensation to grow unchanged at 25%
It appears the NFIB survey is catching down to reality...

Easy fix here folks. Allow all profitable small business owners to access hundreds of billions from the Fed(preferrably the treasury, end the Fed) at the same interest rates given to the fucking bankers and financiers!
See the real problem yet?
Such "let the majority eat cake" monetary experiments always turn out the same.
Fuck em.
the bankers need to repay us all.
employers anticipating job creation drops to just 14%
Hope and change baby.
"employers anticipating job cremation drops to just 14%"
There, fixed.
"Too small to succeed"
Only "Profitable small business"? What the hell? There may be like what, 12 of them?
I have been running a 'non-profitable' SB since 08 and would like a taste of the deal all the other 'NonProfits' got...like GM, banks, Wallstreet, etc...still I greened you for the sentiment....my customers like me dammit, but they have been dropping like flies, I cant save them all through no fault of their own...
Right there with you clade7.
Only been profitable because myself and fellow owners are not taking pay, otherwise business would have lost money all 6 years. But losing money is not allowed in small business if you want any chance at having/maintaining a loan. I would like the free money wall street/private equity spigot, where all we have to do is expect future profits, and then we get a 1 billion market cap with bonuses for all (I think I hear cheese trucks are the future....f' me). Unfortunately all of us living in what used to be the normal world, are swimming against the tide. Do not know how much longer we can continue the struggle. The next pullback/tightening will start in about 9-12 months, because the oil decrease is already starting to impact bank lending in cities heavily reliant on the oil industry. 9-12 months, but that is only if we do not get a Bear Stearns/Lehman Brothers collapse before then.
Read you 5X5 there Colonel! I can tread water a long time, but goddamn! Seems the sinkers have it made, or the ones who get to shore through a 'handout' are the smart ones....guys like us? Fuck You!
Problem is, we really are unexpendible when actual shit needs to actually work...I'm in hands on Hydraulic/Electrical service, Manufacturing Equipment, etc..thats just something that cant be disregarded..although it is!...I'd like a cheese truck at this point...less hours and free food maybe...
You know how I know this is BS. It was going up in October. Really?
USSA is bankrupting itself...but is making sure it is bankrupting the rest of the planet with it.
Einstein's theory of relativity. If you break your leg and everyone else if therefore more competitive than you... break their legs too so you're relatively the same!
They will "fix" this soon enough...
fwiw: in my small backwater, recently more small business have closed. even our mall is losing big tenants and is concentrating remaining renters to one end of the mall..unthinkable just a few yrs ago, we have a population to support this current size mall but something (no jobs no income) is wrong..I try to ignore what I see around me as it upsets the wife.
Do not speak of what you see to the Wife...it has no good outcome in the trim department to trouble her with such observations...
I've learned to keep my thoughts to myself because the old saying still stands........happy wife, happy life.
Mission accomplished
Firms not firm.
not one company expects the economy to get better?
Not even the Repo guys?
I look at it this way. Most people are usually wrong so if zero say that the economy will improve that's practically a guarantee that it will.
Many small strip malls are being built where I live; they are hoping for donut shops, pack-n-mail places, hair cut shop, lube shop and car wash units. Real important industries that contribute to GDP in a meaningful way.
However, many units are 50% or more still vacant.

Who needs small businesses anymore when you can trade multinational stocks the government and the Central banks control?
No begging from the " Save us " crowd yet so more pain needed.
But we've been told the word is Greece has been given a 6 month extension! Awesome!! Why pay attention to real news when hopium is so much better!
That's what's so great about algos
Nothing can put a frown on their face
So bright and gay they'd make Liberace blush
Sign of times, Office Depot buys Office Max and Staples buys Office Depot. Business so good they must consolidate.
I am sure Home Depot and Lowes will begin to assess their markets. In my town they are right across the street from each other. My HD has cut back the # of items stocked. They always ask me to check their internet site for things.
These big box guys ran many of our small business people out years ago.
eliminate tax- good, but the boot of regulations still is there..and free money to mega corps who push little guys out (amazon never made a dime but they keep going while mom and pop die) and a little thing called ACA, which is bleeding everyone and it seems soon the gen public with much higher health costs..
Percentage expecting a better economy: 0%
Now that is truly a disturbing number
Let's eliminate all Federal Income Taxes on businesses with less that 1 million in profits annually.
We know it's the end consumer that pays all taxes anyway.
These businesses can then use the dollars to expand, hire and grow.
Attention NSA, this here fella is a terrorist.
Just got my assessment for my small business, my "equipment" apparently went up about 20% in value. I'm still trying to figure out how the hell they run these extortion rackets.
Scumbags.
Every indicator indicates we are in a recession.
Seems like the running indication of all the indicators going back to the initial indications from early 2009 indicate that Paul "Broken Clock" Krugman was right when he indicated that we've been seeing indications of a depression... for just over 6 years now.
