Dijsselbloem Pours Cold Water On Greek Compromise: "Don't Get Your Hopes Up"
Just over an hour ago, what appears to have been a strawman now was issued by Bloomberg via leaked sources from Greek and German officials that proclaimed talk of a "compromise" deal that makes everyone happy in Europe. However, as the leaders exited today's summit, the tone of their responses did not exactly sound compromise-prone:
- *DIJSSELBLOEM SAYS GREECE PROCESS GOING TO BE V. DIFFICULT, "DON'T GET YOUR HOPES UP YET" ON GREECE
- *MERKEL URGES GREECE TO MAKE UP ITS MIND SOON ON FINANCING
Hardly the resoundingly positive spin we saw earlier. Poland's Tusk, Finland's Stubb, and good old Juncker also chimed in with the latter commenting on Greece's "anti-social" behavior. Tsipras made some neutral statements, then came out swinging, "The MoU as we knew it is over. The same goes for the troika. All these years, the burden fell on the poorest. Our aim is to restore the sense of justice."
Juncker
"We have heard that the Greek government wants to cancel some measures 'cos they are antisocial. Indeed, they may be antisocial."
Eurogroup
- *DIJSSELBLOEM SAYS `DON'T GET YOUR HOPES UP YET' ON GREECE
- *DIJSSELBLOEM SAYS `VERY CAUTIOUS' ON GREECE
- *DIJSSELBLOEM SAYS GREECE PROCESS GOING TO TAKE TIME
- *DIJSSELBLOEM SAYS GREECE PROCESS GOING TO BE V. DIFFICULT
“I’m very cautious on the political side, it’s going to be very difficult and it’s going to take time and don’t get your hopes up yet”
“The technical assessment will be a comparison to see what the common ground is between the current program and the political program of the new Greek government. The Greek minister has said before that he thinks 70 percent of the current program he could take for his responsibility. So we could look at the 70 percent, we could also look at the 30 percent; what has to come out, what could be put in place and these have to of course be valid measures and that’s the kind of work we’re going to do this weekend and maybe we can make some political progress again on Monday.”
Germany
- *MERKEL SAYS TSIPRAS MADE GENERAL STATEMENT ON GREECE GOALS
- *MERKEL URGES GREECE TO MAKE UP ITS MIND SOON ON FINANCING
Finland
- *STUBB SAYS CONVERSATION ON GREECE WAS `VERY GOOD'
- *STUBB SEES GREECE PROPOSAL BY MONDAY
“We had a very good conversation and discussion about a possible avenue and path forward and I am sure that they will be working on some kind of a program with the institutions over the coming days and put forward the proposals on Monday”
Poland
- *TUSK SAYS EU LEADERS DIDN'T ENTER INTO NEGOTIATIONS ON GREECE
* * *
Then Tsipras spoke:
- *TSIPRAS SAYS DIJSSELBLOEM STATEMENT IS POSITIVE STEP FOR GREECE
- *TSIPRAS: EUROGROUP TO DISCUSS MONDAY TRANSITION TO NEW PROGRAM
- *TSIPRAS SAYS GREEK DEBT PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE TACKLED
- *TSIPRAS VOWS TO TACKLE VESTED INTERESTS IN GREECE
- *TSIPRAS SAYS NO ONE WANTS TO CREATE RIFT WITHIN THE EURO AREA
- *TSIPRAS SAYS GREECE IS `SPECIAL CASE' AMONG BAILOUT COUNTRIES
"The MoU as we knew it is over. The same goes for the troika."

Tsipras on his way over the cliff. Well, the Greeks voted for him, now they get what they wanted.

NO, EVERYTING IS NOT FUCKING A-OK
Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this…
So, that’s what they decided to do.
The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve ball.
“Since you are all such good customers,” he said, “I’m going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20?. Drinks for the ten men would now cost just $80.
The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes. So the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men ? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his fair share?
The bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by a higher percentage the poorer he was, to follow the principle of the tax system they had been using, and he proceeded to work out the amounts he suggested that each should now pay.
Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But, once outside the bar, the men began to compare their savings.
“I only got a dollar out of the $20 saving,” declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,”but he got $10!”
“Yeah, that’s right,” exclaimed the fifth man. “I only saved a dollar too. It’s unfair that he got ten times more benefit than me!”
“That’s true!” shouted the seventh man. “Why should he get $10 back, when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!”
“Wait a minute,” yelled the first four men in unison, “we didn’t get anything at all. This new tax system exploits the poor!”
The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.
The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for drinks so the nine sat down and had their beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!
I wonder what would happen if Germany just didn't show up for the Euro one day ...........
Bullshit. You left out the part about the first four men being broke because the rich man hired two of the others to beat the shit out of them and steal their money every day.
#workwillsetyoufree
hammering for months, they are not allowed to exit, so they won't.
period.
Was Blankfein one of the 4 drinking for free? Just curious
Blankfein was the bartender in the other room watering down everyones drinks.
Hey Bankers: Work will set you free. #workwillsetyoufree
That's called skimming, it's what the tribe knows best.
" if Germany just didn't show up for the Euro one day"... the rest of the countries would live much much happier.
That idea of living poor but happy has had a hard time catching on.
So, the bar owner screws up a perfect setup and ends up loosing all the customers.
I wonder what would happen if Germany just didn't show up for the Euro one day ...
Everybody buys a six pack and stay home with wifey.
At this point, 100% of government debt is being monetized. Governments are all just putting on a
show to appear somewhat fiscally responsible so as to keep credibility for their currencies.
They will print to keep their positions of power until all fiat currencies are rendered worthless.
he is at least sticking to his guns.. from January

I thought Kamakazie Pilots were flying single passenger planes.
Tsipras is honored to be flying the whole country into the explosion.
The only certain outcome is that all aboud the crashed suicide bomb plane die.
And some applaud the socialist thief as a hero?
What he is doing is honoring what he said he would do when he asked for the people to give him votes.
It's called democracy.
DE, UK and US all hate democracy, they prefer MPs who lie and cheat.
Yes, he seems to be trying to follow up on what he promised.
He seems as determined to have that crash as the Japanese pilot. He was duty bound to lose his life for the honor of the Japanese people and following the orders of the Emperor. The pilot will only sacrafice his one life.
The Greeks were sold a fantasy solution and they bought into it. Of course, the post election polling seems to show that 75% wish to remain within the EU. 75% seem to agree that the regular EU subsidies of EUD 2,000,000,000 a year sent their way are helpful. Tsipras and ViralFukus are on their fantasy mission to demonstrate the absolute failure of Socialism, whatever the damage it does to the entire country.
He's switching from socialism for the rich to socialism for the people. #workwillsetyoufree
so now the markets will go back down...
right...?
Hah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Sigh
So, it's difficult to parse the meaning, but now Merkel wants to be Dr. V's financee (or is that fiancee) for the stabilitee and a kiss on her (upper and lower) cheeks, while bending knee ? Or was that a request to make a blank checkee out to the vendor ?
The "Greeks" are cryptic ! and the future(s) unpredicatable.
It's bullish for stocks. Like always.
People of Greece, grow up! Stand tall! Get out of EURO zone! Go to china or what ever and ask for money from them. Make your "revolution" with their money. Don't ask for more EU cash.
Thanks in advance!
Greece should Grow Up and Stand Tall.
And that means turning to a country with the poorest average income for a bailout?
Then insist on pissing that money down the drain by Making Revolution.
You take the game of Monopoly pretty serious don't you think? Cowboy.

SUBSTITUTE ' DEUTSCHE BANK ' FOR 'GREECE' and REREAD YOUR COMMENT CUNT. Ya Dig?
Well, it indeed seems that Bloomberg was 'unduly positive'.
h/t Jesse, talking about Bloomberg....

Anybody else but me notice (in spite of the New and Improved Super Leftist Propaganda Orientation of BBG) that the functionality for pure data has all gone to shit on the revamped site? What is it with these Cadillac Communists?
And y'all wonder why this is all happening contemporaneous with the Internet ObamaCaresforYouAsshole Propaganda Control Regulations?
Knuks - Bloomberg is all about eectronic trading of equities and fixed income now. They will provide news feeds directly into one's electronic trading (OMS / EMS) system for algo purposes. That is their high margin product now.
The "free" news and data functionality is an after thought. One must be vertically integrated digitally, physically and metaphysically if one wants to control the propaganda machine and be compensated for those efforts.
Am I vertically integrated if I catch the herring I bait my salmon rig with? I clean and smoke/can/cook my own fish too! IPO anyone?
Wait, what!? I thought they killed the Troika!?
You thought or ZH told you to think that way?
Golly..... You mean....

Do they get married in the end?
Conservatives have to appear as if they are not giving up their fight so easily,
even though the deals have already been made to preserve the Eurozone and Greece's place in it.
It's all theatre for the sheeple. The Greek people will continue to suffer and the German taxpayers will eat any banker losses. Both sides did their best, right?
The germans are the only ones who can afford it, but then Merkel's carreer will be on the line.....
No reasonable German or European wants to see a failed or even successful Ouzo Hall Putsch or a New Syntagma Square Fire in Greece.
Be[A]ware those transnational weapons and "defense" corporate interests.
Greek Nazis are no threat to mankind, so who cares. They maybe Nazis, but they are Greeks in the first place, so they will achieve nothing.

We live in a world that's a very poorly cast shit show on a endless loop, over and over and over again. Everyone wants their 15 minutes of fame!
Plug the fucking plug already! Life is to damn short!
Screw you Jisselbloom, and your White Man-Devil Magic economy...
Be gone, before someone drops a house on you!
He does NOT call the shots, Mutti does.Wait n see, but if the ECB is getting cold feet that is the other signal.
What this compromise will be has still to be determined and Dijsl, is just playing poker bluff to up the ante.
When Syriza boss Tipsy meets Mutti we will see if he likes her and vice versa. 'Cos he has to convince her and Draghi; otherwise no deal.
To tit or not to tit that is the question. Tipsy better not be too tipsy 'cos Mutti is ice cold!
pretty sure all thats going on here is the calibration of coefficients in the matrix, the markets being a large part of that, and also internet and digital TV box traffic... anyone up on the current state of such affairs? fairly big push 15 yrs. ago in non-linear analysis ... certainly computational power is there, i think ... we linearized most everything in my day, albeit repeatedly throughout a domain
theatrics are tiresome though
Is anyone else seeing these adds by Cramer at the end of the articles. Does he really think anyone on ZH would buy the crap he's selling?
Get AdBlock for Chrome, free in the Google Play store.
AdBlock and AdBlock Plus are two different entities. For me AdBlock Plus works- Adblock does not.
But yeah, if I access ZH from a win7 machine, I get Cramer every time.
That signals NSA-observation.
None here, thanks.
No, serious: Use something that block ads.
Finland, you're adorable.
Restore sense of justice = print money so that we can give out welfare so they continue to elect us.
Ohhh....cynical, but likely also correct!
"All these years, the burden fell on the poorest. Our aim is to restore the sense of justice."

And, there's a greek word for it: Psychostasia, the weighing of souls
Can't we just put Nigel Farage in charge?
I think he'd say...It's all bullshit!
The problem is that things have formed in such a way that none of the sides can really back down or compromise without looking weak. If the EU compromises it will be hell with the rest of the South. If Greece compromises Syriza will be discredited overnight. It is a major deadlock. Which will of course lead to a bullshit solution that makes everyone look like a winner until you read between the lines. Good enough for CNN.
Anti-social socialists?
As I said, you cannot negotiate with bankers.
There is only one viable solution to the problem of unpayable debt: default.
And ask yourself if the debt is even legitimate. After all, the debt takes the form of loaned money that was created by banks out of thin air. The money did not exist prior to the loan.
dot_bust
Horse Shit.
If the money was just immaginary and created out of just thin air,
Explain how the shareholders and depositors felt such angst when Cyprus did the bail-in. Why did they not just exhale some air and restore the soundness of the banks?
The Cyprus bail-in was not legitimate. Bankers do illegitimate things on a daily basis. Look at derivatives.
Derivatives are a giant fraud. They are allegedly derived from an underlying asset but are not in fact the actual asset.
The simple fact is that there are more derivatives than actual assets. That is the very essence of a Ponzi scheme, as is the notion of fiat currency, also known as unbacked currency.
The system could be legitimate if the people at large were aware that money is created when they go into debt, but they aren't, and purposely so.
That banks charge interest on "money" that came into existence only because someone promised to pay said "money" back, at regular intervals (this makes us money-launderers, btw) only proves that bankers are criminals with .gov protection.
Greece has been used as a conduit to launder money that would otherwise have to be funneled directly from Central Banks to their constituents- presumably to make scam appear legit.
Waiting for Tsipras and Varoufakis to point this out. If they don't, they either genuinely don't know, or they're just another set of actors on the global stage.
edit: Maybe I'm being moderated, dot_bust, or maybe it's this piece of shit Samsung Chromebook, but I can't upvote you- sorry.
Good points.
Deal, no deal, deal, no deal...I liken this to a yo-yo, wake me up when something happens!
The difference between the EU and Russia lending to Greece is: Russia knows it will get its money back, or else.
good ol' Jizz el blow em
so what play is being run here?
The 'rescheduling play', or the 'protect the public' play, or finagling for the 'guaranteed payment' play? Who's going to guarantee it though?
" if Germany just didn't show up for the Euro one day" -- same as what happens if Greece just decides not to show up. They Nationalize the BAR, put in a government bartender and then the WHOLE SYSTEM IMPLODES!
Richly ironic when the EU socialists use the USSR terminology to call out other socialists. The more things change...
"We have heard that the Greek government wants to cancel some measures 'cos they are antisocial. Indeed, they may be antisocial."
