Jobless Claims Jump Back Above 300k As Shale State Losses Mount

Tyler Durden's picture

As the noise of jobless claims data once again ripples through the narrative of unequivocally good low gas prices, initial claims in Shale States continues to trend higher. TX and PA saw the largest rise in claims (from the Shale States) lagged a week. Overall, initial jobless claims jujmped 24k to 304k (above the supposed Maginot Line demarcating the "everything is awesome" from the "we're gonna need a bigger QE") missing expectations by the most in a month.

Initial Claims trend appears to have seen a regime shift...

as Shale States continue to see a trend higher in jobless claims... (4-week average used to smooth noise)

But the GREAT news is that the Dear Leader Obama recovery has made it so that these people will have to take two part time jobs, delivering pizza and flipping burgers, at 1/4 the pay.  Lower government unemployment number!!!  Yea, Dear Leader!!!

They can mow their neighbor's lawn in the summer as well.  Three "jobs!!!"

Could this be the reason the US is hellbent on starting a new war in Europe? After the war - so their plan - it will be claimed it was "obamacare" and "middle class economics" that solved the crisis for good.

"Americans have become 2nd class citizens".  Actually, American citizens have become second class citizens.  Anyone else who walks in "undocumented" for the free handouts doesn't have to pay the $2,350.00 fee (a few months back it was $450.00, and before that, it was free) to give up US citizenship to get out permanently and keep the money they worked for their whole life.  Only the freeloaders and non-citizens (who are called Americans) get the "first class" status.

Living in one of the oil states I can say with facts, we did not suffer as much with the housing crisis debacle. Now with crude getting crushed, i am noticing the effects of punishing Russia all in the name of national security. The usa corp will protect its MIC at all costs even sacrificing its own people.

In summary, I guess its the oil states turn to meet Mr. Karma.

This move is not protecting MIC.  It is 100% about obfuscating and extending the fractional reserve banking financial asset ponzi where phantom and senior claims on real flows of value concentrate "wealth" and control with TBTJ banks as they front run boom/bust cycles by abusing their knowledge of positions and control of the effective money supply.  It is a takedown of owners of real assets and real options so they can convert fraudulent financial assets into real assets (at the expense if producers, investors and ultimately our national security...).

this is as strightforward as Ive ever seen. Oil craters--> oil industry layoffs.  In contrast, the housing crisis effected nearly every state across the country and crushed alot of people's retirement and life plans no matter where they worked or lived. Unless youre in an oil state or working in the industry, this IS unambiguously good for you. I fail to see how the oil layoffs spread any sort of contagion across the US.

I agree 100%, but the same policies that have lead to an oil and gas glut, that have lead to a shipping container glut, that have lead to a commodity glut, that have lead to a Red Lobster retaurant wannabe on every corner glut, that has lead to a retail glut, that has lead to a housing glut, that has lead to a currency glut to the point where banks don't even want your currency anymore, choosing instead to ship their customers US dollars to fixed and variable annuity providers, that has lead to an investment glut where the yields on bonds and stocks are at all time lows (ok I'm done with the glut part), will lead to the same type of collapse in Red Lobster wannabe restaurants, retail outlets, housing, banking, much of the bond complex and a gigantic pancake size splat in the stock markets of the globe.  And, BTW, that is when unemployment will rocket higher in EVERY state!

Closter murder-suicide latest JPMorgan Chase & Co. worker death  closter-murder-suicide-0209.jpg Authorities are investigating a murder-suicide that occurred in a High Street home in Closter Friday evening. "Money tends to create the most problems in marriages, so the lack of money when you've had it before--that seems to hurt the most."

CLOSTER -- A JPMorgan Chase & Co. employee and his wife were found dead in their home in an apparent murder-suicide.

It happened in Closter Friday evening, where the bodies of Michael and Iran Pars Tabacchi were discovered. Authorities say Iran was stabbed and strangled, while Michael died of a self-inflicted stab wound.

But it also happened in Jefferson Township in July, when police say Julian Knott shot his wife Alita before taking his own life with the same weapon.

There's no evidence to suggest the two cases are related, but Julian Knott and Michael Tabacchi shared an employer: JPMorgan Chase & Co. Knott and Tabacchi are the latest in a string of suicides by company employees over the past year.

When Li Junjie, a 33-year-old JPMorgan worker, jumped off the roof of the company's Hong Kong office in February 2014, the New York Post noted that it was the third death of a JPMorgan employee in weeks. Junjie was preceded by Gabriel Magee, a vice president with JPMorgan's corporate and investment technology arm in London, who jumped off an office tower, and Ryan Henry Crane, a New Jersey native and executive director with the company, who was found dead in his Stamford, Conn., home.

Alden Cass, a psychologist and author of "Bullish Thinking: The Advisor's Guide to Surviving and Thriving on Wall Street," said the deaths are not necessarily a trend. Suicides can happen in any high-stress profession and JPMorgan Chase & Co. is a large company, with 260,000 employees in 60 countries.

But, he acknowledged, the financial services industry is stressful, especially after the recession of 2008. Workers are still getting used to lower bonuses, less mobility and less job security.

Cass' patients often say they struggle with how to cope with those changes and the resulting effects on their lifestyles.

Michael Tabacchi (left) and his wife, Iran Pars Tabacchi (right), who went by Denise, died in an apparent murder-suicide Friday evening, authorities said.

"Money tends to create the most problems in marriages, so the lack of money when you've had it before--that seems to hurt the most," he said.

Stress can exacerbate existing mental conditions like depression or alcoholism, Petros Levounis, chair of psychiatry at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, said. Companies should encourage workers to find a balance between work and health, he said.

"The more we study these systems, the more we appreciate that leading a more balanced life that not only focuses on success and competition, but also in taking care of one's self, preventing burnout and having other outlets like exercise may end up in a more successful outcome," he said.

Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli made the results of an autopsy on the Tabacchis public on Sunday. The couple leaves behind a 15-month-old son. Authorities have not released a possible motive for the killings.

Michael Tabacchi had worked at JPMorgan & Chase since 2009 according to his LinkedIn page. The 27-year-old identified himself as a global custody product manager.

The company declined to comment for this report and did not clarify what Tabacchi's day-to-day responsibilities included.

In the past, the company has offered counseling through its employee assistance program to manage stress and depression.

The newly elected governor Wolf (D) in PA (who just replaced Jim Corbett, R), campaigned on the premise that he was going to tax the shale oil producers (to increase spending on everything that always sounds good to the citizens).  He said they were "walking off with millions" and they should pay.  Corbett had balanced the budget, and taxes were held steady.  I know now that voters will believe anything, no matter how much it costs them.  So if Wolf can't empty the pockets of the shale guys, because they are disappearing faster than Super Bowl tickets did, you have to wonder who's next in line to get fleeced so he can fulfill all his promises?  I guess it's the "sheeple".
