Since we have no draft, it's an all-volunteer military. Who is volunteering? I hope 60 Minutes does another program on this. They examined the 'volunteers' a few years ago and th einterviews were an eye-opener.
Tell us, what did they find? I'm guessing mostly poor, low-skilled, and unemployed? It's a travesty the military propaganda they feed children these days.
If you look at the facts, the services are able to continually up the bar for recruits. No doubt the economy is part of it. But most curious is that there is a clear increase in the call it - college alternative crowd - that is guys looking to see some action. Go ahead and call it BS - but the Army SF and USMC recruits are getting more selective because of this.

When I was part of a helicopter crew in Vietnam we would fly out to accomplish various "chores" each of which was called a mission. We could fly 3 or more missions every day. When Bush boasted Mission Accomplished he was yakking about that one particular mission that aircraft in the carrier accomplished - which was successful. The media expanded the word mission to mean the entire war. No one bothered to check the military definition.
