Sir, you paint a one sided picture of our beloved President Jefferson. True enough, while he believed the tree of liberty, from time to time, needed to be fertilized by the blood of patriots, he also believed he should high-tail it out of danger at the first sight of a red coat.
But you are being very unfair in picking on this minor character flaw: cowardice.
Jefferson was like a finely cut diamond, with many notable facets.
He was profoundly interested in women's rights. For example, while he was a serial rapist who assaulted, degraded, and raped Sally Hemmings (and any other available female slave) every chance he could, it was really a sacrifice he made to help them understand the world of politics. His critics simply didn't understand that he was ahead of his time. In a way, Sally was kind of the first White House intern. Tommy was also a family man. Because he was a good husband, he even built a separate library behind his Monticello mansion, so his wife didn't have to listen to the screams of the young African girls as he introduced them to European culture. Not many husbands treat their wives as well today.
Much like Jesus, he loved small children. We know he loved children because he began raping Sally when she was only a 14 year old child.
