US Government Proposes "Sugary-Food Tax" To Curb Obesity
The totalitarian arm of the ever-growing government appears to know no limit. In today's "oh no they didn't" moment, the US Government's diet panel has dictated proposed one more oppression of American's freedom to choose:
- *GOV'T PANEL PROPOSES SUGARY-FOOD TAX TO FUND NUTRITION PROGRAMS, CURB OBESITY
On the bright side, the government approves of "lean meat" as compatible with healthy eating. The bill, introduced by Rep. Juan Candelaria, D-New Haven, would impose a tax of 1 cent per ounce on soft drinks - including sweetened teas, energy drinks and soda - and candies that are high in sugar and calories.
As Bloomberg reports,
Americans should pay taxes on sugary sodas and snacks as a way to cut down on sweets, though they no longer need to worry about cholesterol, according to scientists helping to revamp dietary guidelines as U.S. obesity levels surge.
The recommendations Thursday from the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee also call for Americans to reduce meat consumption and to take sustainability into account when dining.
The panel released its report as the Obama administration seeks ways to fight obesity, which now affects more than one-third of American adults and 17 percent of children, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“What we’re calling for in the report in terms of innovation and bold new action in health care, in public health, at the community level, is what it’s going to take to try and make a dent on the epidemic of obesity,” committee chairwoman Barbara Millen of Millennium Prevention in Westwood, Massachusetts, said in a telephone interview.
Suggestions by the nonpartisan panel of academics and scientists helps shape school lunch menus and the $6 billion a year Women, Infants and Children program, which serves more than 8 million Americans buying groceries from retailers including Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Kroger Co. The recommendations were sent to the two agencies that later this year will issue the final guidelines that are used to create the government’s icon for healthy diets, currently a dinner-plate that replaced the widely used food pyramid.
Government knows best:
“Higher sugar-sweetened beverage taxes may encourage consumers to reduce sugar-sweetened beverage consumption,” according to the advisory panel. “Using the revenues from the higher sugar-sweetened beverage taxes for nutrition health promotion efforts or to subsidize fruits and vegetables could have public health benefits.”
The document states that “lean meats can be a part of a healthy dietary pattern.”
“The food industry is frantic about the guidelines. They don’t want anything in there that says anything about eating less of their products. That’s their concern more than anything else.”

So, expensive non-refined foods are good? And the poorist people - who can't afford to eat the way the government dictates - will pay all the taxes?

Of course their food stamp allocation will go up so as not to negatively impact them which means my taxes will go up to pay for their sugar habit.
Brialliant
Hopefully you're aware that Whole Foods, local organic co-ops, and even some farmer's markets are currently accepting EBT customers.
If you can "afford" one inch thick $25 per pound organic, grass-fed porterhouse steaks on your government assistance, well then, you're fucking golden!
I'm Michael Bloomberg and I officially endorse this message.
White flour can be more glycemic than pure sugar (example, french bread). High fructose corn syrup is much worse than sugar. And artificial sweeteners are much more effective than pure sugar in causing obesity and diabetes. If you tax sugary-food, you will have to tax lots of foods that have similar or worse effects than sugar
In any case, you can eliminate your diabetes and obesity risk very easily:

The US government refuses to allow labeling of GMO foods even though 93% of US citizens want labels. How about a tax on toxic GMO foods?
Study Shows Dramatic Correlation Between GMOs And 22 Diseaseshttp://www.alternet.org/personal-health/study-shows-dramatic-correlation...
What you said...............alll I know is .. some of it is genetic.. some of it is KIND and type of food .. and some from lifestyle . mostly sedentary .. food produced in the US is crap .. crap .. crap ... especially processed food and most meat that is not organic .. is full of CRAP ... people in France . .or in Vietnam where I travel .. do not eat American food .. they . in FRance eat lots of cheese, bread, sauce and FAT till hell wont have it .. and the women are still trim .. in Vietnam .. most food is non Gmo LOCAL grown .. they eat a lot of fish .. very little red meat .. there is more to the US problem then eating too much . although that is likely part of it. In Nam .. eating is THE big event of the day .. TET which is on now .. they eat for FIVE days .. but mostly fish . soup .. and rice and vegetables. . plus drink a massive amount of beer .. all good .. all good.
There are toxic gmo foods on the market? Hint: it is easier to deal with reality than create a miasma of deciet clouding your own judgement and perceptions.
Sheepherding is hard work....
Let's be honest though. I'm not saying it's a problem in need of a government solution, but there are way, way too many fat, fat, fat, fat, fat, fat, fat, fat, fat fucks in this country.
Yep, but the government won't fix the problem, they are just treating the symptoms.....
Treatment of chronic disease is where and when the members of the AMA, the Heart Association, the Diabetes Association and Big Pharma make their big bucks. You can't patent the recommendation "throw out your vegetable oils, except for olive, avocado and coconut oils, and don't eat any grains at all, or minimal grains and infrequently, and eschew sugars and sweeteners, but eat animal fats and protein as you like"
Quit subsidizing and protecting industrial agriculture companies and go back to more localized food production and you'll see people start loosing weight.
Maybe if we stopped building jumbo sized recliners?
Will be interesting to see how they define "sugary-food". power and control people, follow the money to find the truth.
"sustainability" fuck your agenda 21 bullshit
Am I misremembering when Obama said he wouldn't put into place any new taxes?
While we're on the topic of government doucheness, http://www.dailyrapid.com/2015/02/officials-declare-eating-healthy-a-men...
anyone who prefers eating real food to the processed pesticide and antibiotic laden crap you find in the grocery store is no going to be diagnosed with a mental disorder. Another one or two of these and I'll probably be eligible for lifetime disability due to mental unsoundness.
Psychiatry is a mental disorder. Ever meet anyone in that racket who wasn't wacked?
true that. This world gets more and more insane by the day.
Finally, taxing the rich (food).
US Government Proposes "Sugary-Food Tax"
Why don't they just get rid of the sugar subsidy?
Another completely ridiculous idea based on logic and reason that will never be uttered in the halls of our statist overlords.
To add to your suggestion, taking away the corn subsidies would probably be a good idea too.
Another way of taxing of the 99%.
As we absolutely know in todays world:
1. The "government" and our "leaders" assume they OWN US lock, stock and barrel.
2. We have no "true" rights left as they can be ignored or just changed on a whim or as needed.
3. Anything you think you own or whatever property you think you own can be taken for virtually any reason if the powers that be want it. You think you own your house? Don't pay the property taxes for a year or so and see who really "owns" it.
4. We are merely debt and tax slaves to feed the wreckless military, industrial, "intelligence" complex led by insane asshats!!
How we make it another 10 years is beyond me. I don't see it happening...
That is all for now.
Does sugary include all the Unicorn shit the Fed. produces every year? If that's the case, I'm all for a reduction in sugary products.
It should be law that every citizen is issued 1 plastic government fork (one of those small ones that come with free samples). You get one fork per tax filing. If you are caught using any other utensil other than your serialized government issued fork (tracked by a national utensil database) you go to jail. Obesity problem solved with big government tactics.
Forks and sugar cause obesity and the government can fix it.
Now we can get back to more important issues like how Obama is going to find jobs for ISIS so they stop hating us (because the bin laden family and ayman al zahwiri weren't incredibly rich)
I live in a town with a tourist economy, and every summer, you can tell who's local and who's from out of town by the size of their guts. Every time I see a 10 or 12 year old kid with bright eyes and symmetrical faces but 100 or more extra pounds of fat hanging off of them, it makes we want to beat the ever loving shit out of their (invariably) fat fuck parents. That kid is going to have health issues. That kid is going to have self-respect and body image issues. And their fat stupid fuck parents just keep providing them the same fat stupid fuck "food," either oblivious or indifferent to the damage they're doing to their own children.
I'm not saying there's a government solution but holy Christ I wish I could do something.
One thing you could do is mind your own fucking business.
Sorry, if your kid is fat, you are a bad parent and a bad human being.
And if statist fuckheads didn't steal from the healthy and productive to subsidize the fat fuckheads of the world, it would be a non-issue. As to what you can do, make sure your family and loved ones have the knowledge they need to not become fat fuckhead statist worshipping cunts. Everything else is out of your control.
Let me guess, and like I said just guessing...
C O E X I S T bumper sticker on your Prius?
What, do you have a fat fucking kid?
If you love your children, you'll raise them in a physically and emotionally healthy environment, and you'll do what it takes to ensure that they have a positive body-image and the kind of self-respect that comes from not being a greasy fat unfuckable fuck.
"greasy fat unfuckable fuck"
Now the born and bred dope brings his mother into the conversation.
My mom's ass is literally - not figuratively, literally - as wide as a full-sized refrigerator. If you do that to your kid before they can make their own food choices, you are a bad parent or guardian.
Then lead by example, be fit and do your best to have fit kids. Fat/thin is one issue, but the ire here is about a more important one: once someone (anyone) goes beyond determining their own behavior and starts dictating the behavior of others, things get hosed up royally. 1st rule of getting along: Respect My Rights if you want your's respected too.
Obviously this topic is sensitive to most... But take a step back and think about what CzarAng is saying. Aside from being harsh, he couldn't be more correct.
Look @ the most common Role models/senior executives/entrepreneurs. How many are "obese"? Maybe 0.1%
if you are Obese or "not-pleasant" to look at, your success rate is crippled. Today's society is based on snap judgments; there is no debating this, every day we consciously or sub consciously do this. Sub-Consciously, we associate lazy & lack of drive with obese people.
So yes, Czar is unfortunately Absolutely Correct in saying above. It is a parents duty to understand this concept and take appropriate measures to ensure their kids are 'properly' fed. Just the same as working day to day to ensure kids will go to college or have a better life.
Parasites?
Candida?
Do they always eat at home?
Hmmm.... must be only one kind of cancer.
My, my, my...
Quite the bilious disposition all judgemental & stuff. It's a bit more complicated than diet alone. Bit of physiology & chemistry involved.
Try this.

Actually, the only bumper sticker I have ever had said "I love Animals, they are delicious" on it.
Not you free, the fack fuck above...
I have an I "heart" PETA sticker on my truck. People Eating Tasty Animals. Mmmm...
Maybe N O E X I S T
Or just EXIST. Without the Crescent. It's totalitarian project from top to bottom, and psychotic both in origin and in practice.
My kid is 44
My kid is skinny as a rail but under no circumstance does your OPINION trump my FREEDOM.
Would you like it if I walked into your house and started telling you about all the things I didn't like or that I thought made you a "bad parent" and a "bad human being"? I don't think you would so, try to temper your controlling nature okay?
I'm not walking into your house and doing anything; I'm expressing my opinion on a public forum, same as you.
I do think that once you admit you can't do anything you want to your kid - you can't leave them chained in a basement with only bread and water and no human contact for 18 years - then it becomes a valid of question of what constitutes genuine child abuse. Does feeding them fat fuck food until they beocme a fat fuck count? I'm not entirely sure.
Some of my friends and I were discussing the "traditional family" the other day, and one of my friends said something really insightful. She said that a family consisting of a mother, a father, and N amount of children isn't anything remotely like a traditional family. A traditional family includes aunts and uncles and cousins and grandparents all living in relative proximity to one another, and I can't help but think that might be a moderating influence on some of the worst behaviors we see on display today. If mommy and daddy won't discipline their children properly, maybe grandma or Auntie Susan will. But we've all been brainwashed into believing that you've got a nuclear family on one end and the State on the other.
Oh shit!
Excuse me for a minute, I've got to run down to the basement for a sec.
You originally said that you "wished you could DO something".
That statement crossed a line and went beyond "expressing your opinion". Of course, that's only my opinion.
With the coming of socialized medicine (Obamacare), those fat kids are all of our problems.
An even bigger problem is restrictions on our personal freedom and the right to make our own choices. I'm very sure there are many things that you do that could be considered a potential threat to your own health or that of your family members. Are you really sure that you want government and society constantly looking over your shoulder and telling you what you can or can't do every time you, say, skip breakfast or walk down a flight of stairs without holding the handrail?
Fat fucks should be shamed, it's disgusting to look at, it's my business when I have to look at your ugly fat body.
I have a better idea: Rather than charge a penalty for eating "unhealthy" foods, how about if the government PAID a bonus for eating "healthy" foods like fruits and vegetables?
You sir, are a terrorist. In fact fresh fruits and many vegatables are nothing but sugar (starch storage for the plant).
You need to learn something about the LawsofNutrition.
You, Bastiat, need a little historical perspective. Weston Price is an excellent place to start. You will find you didn't know as much as you thought you did.
I rely on population studies, on the treatment results achieved by Drs. Pritikiin, MacDougal, Esselstyn and others, and on contemporary research. Dr. Greger has a staff at nutritonfacts.org that reviews about 10,000 nutrition articles per year, integrates it posts summaries every day. It's clear from the population based dietary studies, the lifestyle treatment results and the ongoing research just what constitutes the healthiest diet and lifestyle.
Weston Price was a dentist whose work, at a quick glance, seems anecdotal ie. based on his personal experience rather than scientific controlled population studies. Colin Campbell (author of The China Study and Whole is a world class nutritionist both in lab work and populations studies). That said, Weston's observations on processed food are completely consistent with what i've learned. Also i'm not a purist, about 95% whole food, plant based for the last two years. When I do eat fish, it's wild caught, if possible. If I were going to eat meat it would be as close to natural (and as far from factory farmed) as possible.
Here's someone having a crack at Price:
" Much of "holistic dentistry" is rooted in the activities of Weston A. Price, D.D.S. (1870-1948), a dentist who maintained that sugar causes not only tooth decay but physical, mental, moral, and social decay as well. Price made a whirlwind tour of primitive areas, examined the natives superficially, and jumped to simplistic conclusions. While extolling their health, he ignored their short life expectancy and high rates of infant mortality, endemic diseases, and malnutrition. While praising their diets for not producing cavities, he ignored the fact that malnourished people don't usually get many cavities.
Price knew that when primitive people were exposed to "modern" civilization they developed dental trouble and higher rates of various diseases, but he failed to realize why. Most were used to "feast or famine" eating. When large amounts of sweets were suddenly made available, they overindulged. Ignorant of the value of balancing their diets, they also ingested too much fatty and salty food. Their problems were not caused by eating "civilized" food but by abusing it. In addition to dietary excesses, the increased disease rates were due to: (a) exposure to unfamiliar germs, to which they were not resistant; (b) the drastic change in their way of life as they gave up strenuous physical activities such as hunting; and (c) alcohol abuse." http://www.quackwatch.com/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/holisticdent.html
I'm saying the critic is right or wrong or holding up Quackwatch as a reliable source - just using it to illustrate that not having a scientific population study which controls for other variables leaves you unable to defend your conclusions.
I want a tax refund from people who tax others for no other purpose than to maintaining their lifestyle.

Taxes: paying for society or social experimentation?
What's a statists with brain freeze to respond?
The plastic bag tax is another in this gambit.
“Higher sugar-sweetened beverage taxes may encourage consumers to reduce sugar-sweetened beverage consumption,” according to the advisory panel. - which was composed of "sluggish" school kids, how is 1 cent going to curb anything?
This level of brazen over reach coinsides with the Christmas Tree Tax.
Will the government pay us for eating fruits and vegatables saturated in Monsanto's healthy "RoundUp"?
They want to kill you, and they want you skinny first
Will they be revising the food pyramid or maybe a black box warning on prescriptions that cause weight gain or diabetes. They seem to walking back the threat of cholesteral.
This is worse than taxing tea in Boston
How about a Methane tax for these fat bodies?
Just another in a long list of examples that point directly to 'full-time' legislatorship as the root of metastasizing government encroachment.
I say let them get fat and die off early, that leaves more food for me.
I get a kick out of these clowns, tax it will fix it lol...sort of like the Carbon tax, yes more money will fix the ( fake ) global warming lol...
Fuck off already.
I hate Obama and all his supporters. Thank you.
Fuck every last one of them. How about we just cancel the WIC program that the useless fat fucks use to get free groceries on my taxes.
WHEN YOU NO LONGER GIVE PEOPLE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS A MONTH IN FREE FOOD MAYBE THEY WON'T EAT AS MUCH!!!!!!!!
PROBLEM FUCKING SOLVED!!!!
So let me get this straight. If I drink a 16oz Ice Tea with a miniscule amount of real sugar, I will pay a $.16 tax on it. A 16 OZ drink that costs $1, so a 16% tax. A person who drinks a 16 oz Coke laden with HFCS will pay the exact same tax. FUCK YOU.
I think Juan Candelaria is deserving of a massive beat down. Better hide your nail gun. But what else do you expect from Connecticut. The state that makes the USSR look like a free market Utopia.
This asshole wants in-state tuition for illegal immigrants, but thinks citizens should pay a tax on sugar. Maybe his plan is to use the revenue to fund programs for illegals. Fuck this guy!

Introduced by a New England (D). Gee, who would of thought.
I'm proposing shuttering every non essential government agency or department in Washington DC and then if we need some money we can talk about a sugary tax.
The FEMA camps like their guests slightly starved, so they can utilize bunk space MOAR proficiently.
Forward Soviet> or your "processed sugar" rations will be halved.
P.S. Alcohol is processed(fermented) sugar, which leads one to wonder when yeast will be taxed? There's no shortage of yeast in Amerika!
Just get it over with and give us the Communist Manifesto and then micro-manage all of our lives for us. Please. We need you Mr. Government so bad - we just are stoo toopid to be left to live with any freedoms.
More theft under cover of undoing the effects of previous, and on going, thefts.
DC US taxes and controls sugar imports on behalf of sugar interests. Then DC US subsidized corn interests pay DC US to allow mercury laced High Fructose Corn Syrup to be used as sugar substitute.
As a result, obesity skyrockets, but is blamed on the sheeple, and now the so-called "answer" is to steal more, and impoverish the sheeple further.
A scam becomes a scam's scam.
LOL
The banksters need to repay us.
Violence is not the answer, guillotines are.
Facilitating an addiction then charging a premium. Government's a fucking back alley drug dealer.
The only reason they're against drugs like marijuana is because unlike booze and tobacco, sugar and caffeine, anyone can grow their own quantities, if allowed, and once hooked, they likely will have no appetite for all those other government drugs...
... and taxing Cheetos will never make up for lost revenue.
Why not propose new tax on tax?
There goes Obama transforming this country. Into what you ask. Venezuala seems about right.
Water is better.
Take a look at your water bill, they already tax it.
Did you ever see what water does to water pipes?
Horrible idea, 1 cent per ounce is a massive increase. A 44 oz soda is what, 79c to $1.49 depending on where you go. That would make it, $1.23-$1.93. That's a pretty big increase for people who can't afford to. But how would they tax those fountain drinks, since we all know 44oz (or whatever size) is not 44oz unless you have no ice. It would also add $1.44 per 12 pack. That's a big increase since when on sale you can get them for $2.50-3.33. So basically it would be about a 50 percent tax increase on soda. But not just that, but also Gatorade/Powerade, even though they have substantially less sugar/HFCS in it. A 32 oz Powerade has about the same sugar as a 12oz coke. Also don't most energy drinks not contain sugar/HFCS?
Of course this sort of tax can spread to all things...next up, a beef tax due to health and 'carbon/methane'.
This is not a good trend.
Neither is drinking soda or anything with Sugar or high fructose corn syrup. But then again, people ARE heeding the message. Last I checked soda consumption is massively down the last few years or so.
Then remember after paying all these taxes, Obamacare's fascist statistical theory death panels will deny care. Similar to all those tobacco taxes that were 'created' to fund smoker's health costs, but were raided for other purposes.
Glass-Steagall
They'll put a $10,000 pump meter like at the gas pumps tied into the iThingy register. (Cash Register is sooo 20th century). 1 oz... ding, 2 oz... ding,,, ding,,,ding to 44 oz. :))
That'll be `$1.00 for the drink plus $.17 for state, local and whatever tax plus $.44 fat tax. Total = $1.61...Oh I'm sorry, we don't use pennies these days, too expensive to make ya know... The grand total is $1.65.
Free Refills will be $.44 Hey, yes it's free!!!!! We're not charging you, the government is. Pay your tax... It's the american way.
Laugh all you want but these elected morons are more than stupid enough to do it.
Remember, When you vote it is tacit approval of all your elected officials do.
The tax needs to be higher so that the Black Market can offer a solution.
"Sugar Tax" Awesome!
Proof-Positive that the US Government is BANKRUPT. Nuff said.
At the same time as they pass a law to force people to eat raw veggies and nothing else, they should also pass a law to ban skinny models, because, as we know, we don't want skinny role models, because skinny is bad, er, I mean, well whatever, we just can't have pretty people as fashion models, because it's bad, and we can't allow people to eat tasty stuff, because that's bad too.
Just let me be dicatator and I'll show you what I mean!
Would it not just be easier for these bastards just to officially enslave us and then feed us what they feel we deserve?
Why not incentivize health eating? Psychologically rewards are much more effective.

Before corporate health scams, corporate insurance scams, corporate this and corporate that scams it wasn't a problem. You want to die at 50 by lung cancer,,, fine with me,,, diabetes from being grossly fat,,, fine with me.
Notice these scum bags aren't trying to convince those that are healthy and like sugar, they want to tax EVERYONE regardless of lifestyle.
They've already eliminated the decent middle class Jobs replaced with 29 hour servant Yobs. They're already 'forcing' CONsumers to buy health and auto insurance. Now another tax to try to get what's left?
Hey government, commies, fascists, socialists and otherists,,, Go fornicate thyself!
When will progressive tyranny stop?
Grimaldus
And the poorist people - who can't afford to eat the way the government dictates - will pay all the taxes?
Wrong, wrong, wrong. The EBT/SNAP/Looters'R'Us money stolen from the rest of us taxpayers will cover this, just like we cover every other slimy proglodyte government program.
I'm all for this. Legazilze dope, reopen the hostess bakers and tax the shit out of chocodiles and zingers.
What do you want?
The government now pays for free medical insurance of millions of Americans. Obese people suffer from more diseases.

I'm Ok with fat men. But I would like to see slim attractive American women sometimes.
Heroin is illegal since it is highly addictive and dangerous. Cigarettes are less addicitive and less dangerous so rather than ban it they tax it. Why not do the same thing with bad foods?

U.S. Rejects Mayor’s Plan to Ban Use of Food Stamps to Buy Sodahttp://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/20/nyregion/ban-on-using-food-stamps-to-b...
In Michigan it's popular to buy soda (we call it pop here), go outside the store, dump it out, and return the cans for the deposit money and then buy cigarettes. (yes, I know more than one person who has seen this done). Cut off the pop and how are people going to support their smoking habit?
Butter is bad for you. No, never mind, it's margarine that's bad for you. A low fat diet is good for you, then no, it's not healthy for you. Eggs will send you to an early grave, now they are good for you.
I stopped listening to their dietary guidelines a long time ago after I gave up my tiny pats of butter on toast for 10 years. Eat everything in moderation, and in most cases, you'll be fine.
Ok, it's hard to believe anyone will ever have a study that says pop is good for you. But now the government wants to start taxing the food they think we shouldn't eat and drink? We are on a slippery slope to totaltarian government, and this is just more grease for the slide.
We subsidize US sugar interests and tax the US sugar products? WTF?
Can people please stop voting my rights away? Voting is violence. Voting is a crime against Natural Rights.
If all the people stopped voting, these psychopathic control freaks would have zero legitimacy.
Fuck you Obama, Most of us regulate not purchasing government subsidized products, Your loss, not ours. We will make our own decisions opposed to being told what to do. The directive your shifting is going to be a loss in more ACA membership sign-up percentages. This ponzi scam will falter. Keep dictating, watch the numbers nosedive. If we already have heathcare, why worry about IRS threat? Welcome to your own fear of a fucked-up medical plan.
Government limits imports of sugar to help sugar-growers in Florida and Louisiana, artificially inflating sugar prices.
High-fructose corn syrup, being cheaper than the artificially inflated sugar price, gets used in food products.
Health nuts ask government to stop the raging menace of high fructose corn syrup, the problem they created in the first place.
I hate everything.

Now that you don't have any illegal aliens underwriting ACA, future vote. How does it feel to be defeated for 2016 DNC cockroach voting tactics?
Nice. So USG will continue subsidizing GMO sugar producers and then will recover the cost from the consumers through the sugar tax? If these bureaucrats really cared about obesity, diabetes, cancer, etc., they would subsidize organic agriculture (only until the economy of scale would bring down the ridiculously high prices of this food segment) and cut all subsidies for GMO sh*t or even better - ban it.
My tomato has fish genes in it!!!!!!!! The sky is falling!!!!!

The government is supposed to be the servant of thep people (continue when laughter subsides). Why is it, then, that it considers it proper to coerce conformance to the preferences of the government? Who are the assholes on the governmetn payroll that think they have the right to do so? Perhaps we should stop thinking of the problem as one of "government" and instead look at it as a call to horsewhip anyone working for the feds.
Read it and bleed you kenyan nigger. Our country will not merger. Good luck.

Fish is fat as hell, no one can argue it's bad for you, but I guess fat's not on their approved list...
This is going to hurt the EBT card holders.
GOOD.
Eat real food you fat fucks.
If it comes out of a box or can, chances are it's garbage.
If it didn't grow, or ate something that grew, then it isn't fit for consumption.
Finally the incompetent parasites and thieves in government propose something sensible and useful - they should impose a $10 per gram tax on all added sugars. Sugar is highly soluble in water, basis of all foods, so people who want their food sweeter can just add their own sugars and stop poisoning the rest of us.
Yeah, it couldn't be that some Senator is going to get a new spending project out of the Deal!!
- They gave up the Budget Process 6 Years ago, that is why we operate on Continuing Resolutions
- Give more money to these Bozos, Frauds, Racketeers?
Total--Tennessee Valley Authority Outlays 2014 = $46.6 Billion

Total--Tennessee Valley Authority Outlays 2000 = $8.3 Billion
Total--Tennessee Valley Authority Outlays 1998 = 9 Billion
Total past 10 Years Federal Funding Tennessee Valley Authority =$265.9 Billion
- I'm still waiting to hear from the Press why we are spending on this big Project called "Tennessee Valley Authority" since it was supposed to be an Independent Business
Isn't it funny how 'good ideas' for taxes pop-up when 'your' government owes $18 trillion, is running a $500 billion deficit, and has unfunded mandates of 4-5 times the debt total that will cascade into the spending/debt column, and a president that claims the 'age of austerity' (wtf?) is over.
Its all about helping people. Right?
Well, we warned you all. First they went after the smokers and nobody bitched. NYC went after the soda addicts and nobody bitched. Obama forced Americans to buy health care insurance and lots of people bitched but nothing was done. Now the gubbermint is going after the fat asses. Will the crowd allow this to happen too? What's your favorite sin? Watch out! They'll be visiting you too in the near future.
Remember that old saying?
First they came for the Communists but I was not a Communist so I did not speak out.
Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists but I was not one of them, so I did not speak out.
Well....you all know the rest.
Which leads to...
This will do nothing - they want a solution that does not harm big business in any way - there is no regulation that they can tag on that would decrease sales - otherwise there is hell to pay and the campaign contributions and union votes stop.
Of couse this will "exempt" all of the proccessed food that contains sugar or a hidden form of sugar - almost all of it. Can't have the big agra "angry" that their food is outlawed or increased in price.
It will also be avoided on sugar foods that are indirect: aka carb heavy foods - again. can't possibly have a solution that would decrease sales.
Where it impacts low income, they will simply increase the EBT card by the tax so they are not burdened. Of course this will not be direct - it will come under some other guise to help them.
And... there is almost no chance that money actually goes for education - its just another bullshit tax to get more money for the govt when they run out of other methods to do so.
I would argue that its the modified forms of sugar which create most of the problems - HFCS and other.
Why not start with banning the use of anything but regular sugar - white, unrefined or honey etc? See what happens? Or instead of banning corn sugars, why not STOP the bullshit subsidies to corn farmers? Why not tax the producers of HFCS so that its more expensive than regular sugar > If its so good and essential to the taste of the product, the producer will simply pay it and raise the price. My guess is this is not true at all.
How our Congress Critters will Vote:
This one is for the kids, so it has to be good. You would be unAmerican to not want to be for the kids....
Fat? Overweight? , you say?
The thyroid gland, under bombardment from nuclear radiation fallout, will cause humans to gain weight uncontrollably.
The Hanford Downwinders ingested fallout and many suffer from this very effect. It has been fully demonstrated that ingestion of radioactive particles will constantly bombard adjacent tissue. When the thyroid is involved, e.g. via uptake of radioactive Iodine, etc.
Case in point? The huge releases from Hanford from the 1940s and ongoing to the present. These were mostly kept secret.
Here's Tricia Pritikin, a Downwinder, letting you know what happened:

Someone explain to me how this group of geniuses expect to "gain revenue from tax hikes on suguary beverages to fund nutrional programs" but in the same breath state that the tax on suguary beverages is meant to discourage the consumption of these products. Thus if the program is successful and the purchase and consumption of said taxed items are curtailed, how is there a presumed tax revenue gain? If the program is successful there should be no revenue benefit from the tax hike. What sort of logic is this? I'm dying here but I'm not so far gone as to recognize stupidity or intellectually dishones behavior.
Talk about cognitive dissonance.
Taxes are secondary, controlling every aspect of your life is primary.
Another name to add to my post-apocalypse shit list
How about identifying pink slime® on labels and packaging?
Anyone voting for an abonminable new tax like this should have their spleen and nose removed. oh and be castrated if they are male.
So,won't the HFCS and sugar lobbyists be up in arms over this new tax?
Why not just tax the fat people? This would be simplier and fairer and would actaully stop the problem...if this is what you wanted to do.
Listen up stupid motherfucker (yes, that's you, author), and do not forget. Lean meat is not healthy. Fat is healthy.
If you remove calories from carbs, where do you think they will come from? Osmosis from your shower water? You need fat, and lots of it, for a healthy diet.
10 percent flat tax no deductions for anyone no other taxes what so ever and you will see an economy hum.
I can see how the proposals were presented

However, we may be better of by cutting Sugar Subsidies and taxing Sugar(and caloric sweets) along the entire Supply Chain - not just the retail outlet. Better yet, use those taxes for any Farm Production Subsidies.
