Eurogroup To Hold Press Conference Momentarily: Live Webcast

Tyler Durden's picture

Update: EUROGROUP SPOKESPERSON SAYS AGREEMENT REACHED ON GREECE

While the Eurogroup will present a Greek deal in a few minutes, which will have the following big picture framework:

  • 4 not 6-month extension
  • no completion of current program
  • no new austerity measures
  • no unilateral actions

some of the key terms remains undisclosed, and somewhat unexpectedly Reuters reports that Greece will have until Monday, which is a national holiday, to list the planned measures it intends to take. It is surprising that Germany has agreed to an open-framework of this nature, which also means that once the final memorandum is available, everyone will dissect the language to find out just who folded.

So while we wait, the Eurogroup's press is said to begin momentarily. Watch it live below.

Greek measures to be taken on Monday:  "Shot of Ouzo or two, smoke cigar, convert Euros to Gold."

The Germans and the Brussels Bandits also need time to cover their asses.

You know, as I sit here pondering "which side folded" it occurred to me it's the wrong question.  The RIGHT question is "did anything get solved?"  Yeah, you probably feel where I'm going with this already.  I'll bet heavily that the unpayable debt will live for another day.  Another grand can-kicking victory.  But still nothing fixed.

well I guess it was never supposed to be 'fixed' today was it?

I live in Greece and believe me, I feel for the first time that the Govt are not just a bunch of Cunts, now that may change and they may well turn out to be, but why doesn't anyone think there is a remote chance that they could change for the better, I mean they are asking to make a memorandum based on Growth measures, WTF is wrong with that?

Sounds more to me like this is merely an "extension" of time so that the banks, et al don't have to write off all the loans, etc.  Kicking of the can.  Nothing more.

This is such bullshit.

The also proves that Ghordo knows way more about the inside workings of the EMZ than he lets on.

He disappears for a while when the future of Greece is uncertain, and then the same day the can gets kicked he shows back up again.  Ghordo -- explain yourself.

So what are we going to do on Monday?  I'll be in Brussels consulting with the EuroGroup.  First thing is I'll be getting a pedicure with Christine.  Every Monday she gets he nails polished after the fungus is scraped.  Then we'll be getting a massage together.  Followed by breakfast at the most expensive breakfast restaurant in town.  Caviar (Bing!)  Then off to a meeting where we all will agree that we've agreed in principle on all the primary items, most importantly, that we get to do this again and that none of us should have any penalties because of the bad hairy Greeks.  Then we'll break for coffee.  After that all 17 EuroGroup members will play show and tell, presenting their own thoughts and language amendments on the agreement signed today.  Drafts of all 17 will be exchanged.  Then off to lunch at the most expensive luncheon restaurant in Brussels.  Champagne (Bing!)  Then a nap.  After our naps, and we've still got to decide amongst us how long the naps should be, we'll reconvene to further discuss the things that we didn't get to discuss in the morning because we didn't have open discussion before lunch and our naps.  We'll then take a break until dinner time for the notes and minutes of the day's discussions get printed out and distributed.  Actual distribution will happen after dinner.  Dinner will be at the most expensive dinner restaurant in Brussels.

Any extension is bad news for Europe because when you are under attack and the attacks continue you lose your strength. Europe is not saying crush Greece; it's admitting Greece is unhappy and Greece won’t take it anymore.

The anti-Eurozone forces in France, Italy and Spain only have more time now to develop their attacks. Only a quick, quiet settlement would have helped the EU.

Extension just means no settlement.

Most of the heavy hitters buying equities today – the primary dealers - are operating completely short run, happy to drive up the indexes until the next round in the Greek crisis. But in a larger sense, an economy that is only identified with a Fed-manipulated stock market is an economy that will take those market gains one day soon and destroy them.

The Fed is operating on hype, fooling the investors into a party that must eventually end.

Bottom line: the money the Fed is passing on to its insiders to use in the market is Federal Reserve notes printed out of nothing, its value stolen from the people.

Meanwhile, at home, pressure on the bankers continues to build and the strongest voice against the Federal Reserve, Ron Paul, just got stronger.

Ron Paul: “Good News” That Secession Is Happening

“The good news is it’s gonna happen. It’s happening.”

Feb. 19, 2015

Andrew Kaczynski  - BuzzFeed News Reporter

Former Republican presidential candidate and congressman Ron Paul says secession is happening and it’s “good news.” Paul later predicted the states would stop listening to federal laws.

“I would like to start off by talking about the subject and the subject is secession and, uh, nullification, the breaking up of government, and the good news is it’s gonna happen. It’s happening,” Paul, the father of potential Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul, told a gathering at the libertarian Mises Institute in late January. The event Paul was speaking at was titled “Breaking Away: The Case for Secession.”

Paul said secession would not be legislated by Congress, but would be de facto, predicting “when conditions break down…there’s gonna be an alternative.”

“And it’s not gonna be because there will be enough people in the U.S. Congress to legislate it. It won’t happen. It will be de facto. You know, you’ll have a gold standard when the paper standard fails, and we’re getting awfully close to that. And people will have to resort to taking care of themselves. So when conditions break down, you know, there’s gonna be an alternative. And I think that’s what we’re witnessing.”

Later, Paul said the Federal Reserve would end and the states would stop listening to federal laws they didn’t agree with.

“The Fed is gonna end. There is going to be a de facto secession movement going on. The states are going to refuse to listen to some of the laws. We’ve seen tremendous success already with states saying to the federal government, ‘We’re not gonna listen to you anymore about the drug laws.’ And they’re getting out of it, and I think the American people are waking up to that, and as far as I’m concerned, the more the merrier.”

Ron Paul is not Rand Paul, and for my money, when Ron Paul says as end to the Fed is coming, it makes my hopes soar. And when Rand Paul says something, it's just statement from another politician.

And, you, you are such a political pundit, you found out that Rand Paul is Ron Paul's son, and that's your evidence that Ron Paul can't be trusted regarding secession because "his son is angling to become President of said Union."

P.S. I already knew that Rand was Paul's son.

I keep saying...this is Zeno's Paradox...all over again.

EU taking infinite number of half-steps won't get Greece to their ZERO DEBT goal.

Zeno explained many years ago...half-steps to the goal (the precursor to the Calculus).

We won't ever get there (today).

It will take another theoretical regime.

A new credit/debt paradigm to fix the Greek Debt.   RESET finally !!!    take the leap of faith across the divide.

this is really quite funny.  Dumb people loaned smart people money both knowing they'd never pay it back...and somehow this is news?  Funny how the banks can always skim but they can't take a loss, even with fake money they loaned out of thin air...but that would cause the ponzi scheme to collapse.  Just fun to watch.

It must be an "Extend and Pretend" agreement. Lets be real, there is no real solution to 300+ billion Euro debt with interest saddled up upon a falling economic output and rising unemployment Greek economy.

What can not be paid, will not be paid. This Germany will find a way to give Greece money on loan to pay the EU banks on a temporary basis, as Greece has NO MONEY.

Let the markets go into a face ripping burst upwards, the problem will return soon. Extend and Pretend is necessary for Germany to keep PONZI EUROPE going, they now live from day to day, at all costs seeking one more day of PONZI, while they wait for an escape velocity recovery that will produce revenues to pay back all the debts. Who fucking believes that shit? The ECB? The Bankers?

If they got the 4 month deal they wanted then theoretically Europe won. The Greek position was that giving them the loan would buy all of Europe time to gets its shit together. If they don't "fix" things by the end of the bridge period them who knows what happens. But the bankers got four more months where the Greeks can't go rogue on them and Syriza got a four month window to put the squeeze on the Germans.

When are the Spanish elections?

Fri, 02/20/2015 - 15:48 | 5808982 Jack Burton

Right then, it is a simple extend and pretend. I mean, what else could they do? The answer is Nothing. They have no choice but extend the Ponzi or Europe crashes in flames. The Banks have booby trapped the entire financial system with CDS and other Derivative mine fields set to blow up the EU financial system. No matter WHAT, the Ponzi can not have it's bluff called. In fact, at this point, the entire world financial and banking system is one big BLUFF!  If it ever gets called, like Greece threatened, the end of days financial crisis would ensue.

Good news? Up!

Bad News? Up!

What does it actually take to push markets down? World War? Probably not even that as GS and JPM would say "That means deficit spending and good times at BAE and Boeing!".

I even saw it here when the markets were looking for any (and I mean ANY) excuse to go green. It was like the reverse of Dr Banner (He was looking for any excuse to NOT turn green!). Yet tangible stuff like gold and silver? Flat, at best. Dip, at worse.

Off Topic. Sorry, but no home here for this important story. The IMF has loaned Ukraine money, 15.7 billion Euros. Now they have come for payment. This is just the start of the IMF Governing of Ukraine. Welcome to the EU folks.

"

Demchishin is planning to lay off 20% of miners this year.

The Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry intends to close five state-owned mines and to idle additional seven, said Minister Demchishin in an interview with the journal “Focus”.

“Out of 35 mines under our control, we will close 5, and additional7 will be idled and preserved.”

He underscored that 20% of coal mine workforce will be reduced. “That’s 10 thousand out of 52 thousand miners,” predicts Demchishin."

 IMF plans for

"restructuring" always predictably include

a give-away fire sale to "privatize" public assets,

a policy of unrestricted foreign "investments" (e.g. sell off Ukraine farmland to Monsanto et al to then raise Roundup Ready crops),

and the build-up of "security" forces to enforce "stability" (IMF stability meaning the freezing and cutbacks of wages to pay off loans).

Another confirmation - there are just weaklings and EU cocksuckers left.

The new Greek leaders are no different than the rest.

Obviously NSA had them already on their balls.

Nothing ever changes - since Stonage.

What a sad day for Europeans as well as the greek population.

THOUGH: maybe that was just a smart move - game strategy - get another few billions for free - and now you have cash for another couple of months to get along - AND with that have bought enough time to properly prepare for the exit. Hope dies last. Add four months - and that is end of June - close to when gold should bottom (July) and rates should start rising again. Cyclewise this outcome fits pretty well. It would not have fit if exit happened today. So it remains to be seen what will be the final outcome - in summer. Currently the Greeks may have lost face BUT they have a least won a few more billions to feed their poeple - what in the end in the moment is more important - as it bought TIME.
