If he did not have a well prepared plan before he got elected he is a fool. They may default but by then it will have been guided so that all things of value become the property of Germany and the bankers. That is if they allow the bankers to set the schedules.
You cannot "prepare" too much before elections for two simple reasons:
1) you have to win first...
2) you don't know what you'll find when you'll get in power. You might have a general idea as to "where we stand", but you don't know the details that matter.
This is just a short delay. They can use it to prepare themselves for the inevitable (abandonment of euro), or just to kick the can a bit further down. If they'll try the same trick in 4 months, then they'll be toast one way or another (because they'll piss off either their creditors or their voters). They've gotten a bit of a breathing room, but that doesn't solve any of their problems. Regardless of Greece, Euro is dying...

Your magic word picture might get support from the people who don't understand the agreement between EZ and Greece. But for Yanis to lose, he needed to agree to the demands, the deadlines, the IMF austerities, the bank closures, the repetition of the program that his country has been burdened with. That didn't happen. What happened was an extension to continue fighting for restructuring the debt. If that doesn't happen, Greece loses and an exit from the EZ will be more likely because the people will demand it.
Therefore, you tell me where Yanis went wrong today (if possible without your disgusting example); this situation in Greece is hardly subject for humor, vulgar or not.
Vulgarity aside, what I was highlighting is the FACT that a rank amateur who is in a government that are also a bunch of rank amateurs, had made a bunch of threats (about doing the right thing) and then folded like a deck chair on the Titatnic at the first boo uttered by the German counterpart.
Now, from the rhetoric, it appeared that they "had answers". Sounded like they said that they would not "extend and pretend" anymore. Well, looks like that is exactly what they did. And they didn't even take it to the 28 Feb deadline.

It's not a fold unless the new Greek government does nothing in those four months. They have now seen the enemy and need to plan their actions. The Greeks can still win this, and now they have four months to print drachmas, shift assets, work with their banks, seize what needs to be seized, etc. I think this 'window of opportunity' is what the Germans did NOT want to give them -- but Germany was outvoted by the rest of the EU. Now if the Greek leaders can get serious about a possible Grexit, rather than doing TV interviews, the Greeks may yet have a chance.

Greece is about to default on bonds they issued. The EU stepped in and loaned money. Greece cannot pay back the loans. EU loans more money. Greece still can't pay. EU loans more money. Greece still can't pay.
The issue falls squarely 100% on Greece's shoulders for not being able to pay back their obligations. That leaves them with 2 options. 1. Take more money and become a slave to the EU or 2. leave and feel the pain of having no economy.
It really is that simple.
If someone owes me and doesn't pay I sure as hell don't lend them more. That would make me the fool. Duh
