Paul Craig Roberts: The Cancer Of Financial Repression (And Why You Can't Do Anything About It)
Submitted by Gordon T.Long via Macro Analytics,
Dr. Paul Craig Roberts is extremely meticulous in examining the central problems facing America and the developed economies today. You may not like nor agree with what he says but there is little double as a former high level Treasury official, academic professor and Wall Street Journal editor, that he knows what he is talking about.
FINANCIAL REPRESSION
"It is going on on several fronts conducted by different people for their own agendas, though they all seem to be mutually supporting.
- FINANCIALIZATION OF THE ECONOMY by the Big Banks. - "What that means is that they are converting the entirety of the economic surplus to paying interest on debt. They are draining the economy of all vitality! There is nothing left for the expansion of consumer demand, business investment and old age pensions. It expropriates the economic surplus that is created beyond the maintenance of the current living standard into interest on debt."
- OFF-SHORING OF MIDDLE CALLS JOBS by Corporations & Wall Street - "What the Corporations and Wall Street have achieved by off-shoring manufacturing jobs and tradable professional job skills such as software engineering & information technology. What they have done by moving these offshore is to recreate the labor market conditions and wage exploitation of the late 19th century."
- MANIPULATION OF THE BULLION MARKETS by the Futures Market Bullion Banks - "There is no free market in the futures markets. These are markets that are manipulated."
COLLUSION BETWEEN PARTICIPANTS
"I think there is a lot of collusion. For example the government colluded with the banking system in financial deregulation. For example they repealed Glass-Steagall. They expressed this absurd claim that financial markets are self regulating."
"They turned the financial system into a gambling casino where the bets are covered by the tax payer and central bank."
The cancer which started in the US Financial System has spread globally. The carriers of the cancer has been the International Banks.
WASHINGTON ANSWERS TO WALL STREET
"Some of the Financial Repression is collusion of government serving the financial interests because Wall Street is a huge supplier of political campaign funds which you are highly dependent on to get re-elected. So you answer to the donors. You don't answer to the public interest. It doesn't give you any money."
"You answer to:
- Wall Street,
- The Military-Security Complex,
- The Agri Business like Monsanto,
- The extractive Industries (Oil, Timber, Mining)
These are the powerful interest groups that use the government to serve their interests."
THERE ARE NO LONGER COUNTERVAILING POWERS IN WASHINGTON
With the destruction of the manufacturing jobs in America through off-shoring, it has reduced the power of the unions and destroyed the Democrats independent source of campaign funds.
"You now have two parties with the same head and reporting to the same masters. There is no longer any countervailing power"
You no longer have the Democrats supporting workers against the Republicans supporting business. Both parties represent them.
"This is the reason you can't do anything about Financial Repression!"
NEO-CONSERVATIVE CONTROL OF FOREIGN POLICY - $6T TRILLION IN WAR DEBT
We have been in 14 years of wars and added $6T of national debt to finance these wars "without adding five cents of investment for the country having taken place."
"We now have the Neo-Conservatives driving the conflict with Russia (which is insane), with China (which is insane). The United States doesn't have the power to try and dominate Russia / China. Especially now that the two countries have a strategic alliance"
"You have much of the world turning away from the United States because of Washington's
- Abuse of the Dollar as the World's Reserve Currency,
- Abuse of the dollar based payment system,
- Imposing unilateral sanctions which are acts of war,
- Threatening people with expulsion from the clearance mechanism and people saying we won't have any part of this,
- The BRIICS establishing their own version of the IMF,
- The Impact of the Spy Scandals and people saying they will build their own internet,
All of this is not only going to effect business it is going to effect American power. It is going to start shriveling!"
"If you have these crazed Neo-Conservatives demanding control of the world, faced with declining power, you don't know what they will do! It is a very, very dangerous situation. I'm surprised it has taken the world so long to realize the threat the US poses to the rest of the world."
"The US Dollar payment system is essentially a system for looting. This, Globalization and Neo-liberal economics are tools of American economic imperialism. Countries are beginning to realize this. The looting of countries by American imperialism has now reached the point where it is turning on itself - Greece for example."

This Growth mantra is cancerous to its host. USA was doomed when its manufacturing base was outsourced by Reagan, Bush, and Clinton. Had it kept its productivity, it could have thrown off the central bank fiat regime.
I like both Roberts and Stockman, but I think they have to come to terms with what the Reagan administration did to the American economy. Reagan did not want to be Carter, but what he began was worse.
<<The US Dollar payment system is essentially a system for looting. This, Globalization and Neo-liberal economics are tools of American economic imperialism. Countries are beginning to realize this. The looting of countries by American imperialism has now reached the point where it is turning on itself - Greece for example.>>
True, but that Imperialism was not American, but AngloZionist, or Globalist. That power looted America throughout the 20th century. It simply used America as its tool and its mask.
What they did is what they did. What matters today is their insight and eloquence.
Their insight and eloquence says we are doomed...

~Alan Greenspan at CFR Oct 2014
Hey, if I like repudiate all my debt can I get a debit card with the new BRICS Bank?
Financial repression will not be enough to correct these imbalances as it was after WW2 due to the unfunded liabilities and private debt. They will not be able to get inflation high enough (without having it run away) or rates low enough (they are already at zero).
Again this is a good overview:

Planksy, good to see you posting again.
just sharing: New aggregator site I just found that pretty much includes all kick ass sites (like ZH) all in one as well as video blog/podcast links. Very cool...just in case any of you all hadn't found it yet. I have no affiliation or anything like that...just think it includes essential informational sites for all our interests and purposes.

Points one, two, and three wouldn't be happening without government.
The only people who need government are the elite and their minions.
The vast majority of people WANT government.
So who's to blame, the psychopaths that nature created to parasitize the dupes, or the dupes who lack an innate immune response to the psychopaths?
Here is the challenge to any of the dupes with sufficient cognitive ability:
How would a civilized society organize itself to function without government?
"How would a civilized society organize itself to function without government?"
Understand your liberty sentiniment and share it to a point, but -- and this is a big butt -- power vacuums get filled.
Hat tip to ZH for fronting PCR. Good interview.
true enough, that power vacuums get filled.
but, ask yourself, why is there a power vacuum?
if everyone mans up, defends the borders of their own sovereignty, and doesn't contribute to the bully on the block, there is no power vacuum.
it's a tall order - it would take a society of fully authentic, engaged individuals, to succeed on any sort of scale.
but the point is, it can be done, and it's a worthy goal to work towards.
Yes, your argument is solid intellectually and moral, but not the real world, IMHO.
I would say that what you speak is what we strive for in every way possible.
Do you associate with murders and thieves? No?
Then society must be encouraged to apply that ostracism towards the murders and thieves in charge. People do so when it is blatantly obvious, but when the facade of "needing" government hides it, that rejection disappears. The goal is to never make or accept excuses for the psychopaths in charge and to expose, ridicule, and shame them relentlessly. In addition, explain how freedom is far far better than the incessant death, destruction, thievery, and slavery that is the basis of government.
BTW, your description of the inevitability of government is inaccurate and unhelpful. Obedience to government is a moral behavior and moral behaviors can change - like in Ceausescu moments. Over time, the changes can become the normal behavior.
how is it not the real world? it's real life for me. i live life as an anarchist, i don't recognize government authority over me at all. in the actions of my life, "is it legal?" is not a question i entertain at all. only practical ones, like, how likely are gov agents going to be to give me trouble, and how big a risk am i taking by breaking this or that law?
i try to interact as much as possible with people who are of similar belief.
Answer to both of you.
When you are one and they are many, powerful and running a racket, what does one do? Typically, it leads to an accomodation. Like I tried to say above we agree on the purely intellectual basis.
no, not accomodation. threat assessment.
accomodation would be a word that i'd use when talking about a relation with a vendor or a customer, i would try to accomodate their needs to maximize the mutual benefit.
when dealing with a hostile, like the govt, the game is to maximize the harm i can do to their system, and minimize the harm that they do to me.
You say "to-mae-toe", I say "to-mah-toe"....
different words have different meanings.
if you don't understand the distinctions between words, i suggest you stop using them.
Agreed, except that it is not a moral arguement, It is an economic one. THE PROBLEM that you eluded to but didn't explain is one of morals. America sort of worked for awhile because that with a few exceptions, generally people had the same social morays and they feared God.
Today we have nothing like that. Morals are very loose, incoherent, and God has been barred from all conversation. Without a fear of your Creator you have no reason to respect anyone's rights (so, if you can get away with it you're ok). The other problem is that whatever "rights" we all agree must belong to a person must come from someone besides man or else they are subject to change. AND, I'm not talking about hokey religion, mind you. I'm only advocating for a simple belief in a Creator God that I must answer to for my actions at some point. Period.
You didn't answer the question but changed the subject.
Try again.
Good fences make good neighbours.
I'm not good at central planning at all, which is why I never ran for government. All I know is that if I am left alone and NEVER hear from government ever again, then I will feel that I live in my own personal ideal society. Can't really recommend that for anyone else, just for me.
Would you be satisfied with a rather crummy prediction?
I think we're going to get a currency reset - along with much diminished access to energy and resources of all kinds - which will lead to war, famine, and disease wiping out a large percentage of our populations. I think large nations will break up into small nations, possibly even city-states, with varying degrees of war and co-operation between neighbours, each group with extremely different local cultures and distinguishing values. Most people will cluster into those; a minority will form a very hardy, impoverished (by today's terms), and self-sufficient rural population. Churches, charities, and voluntary social groups will become strong and aggressive, and artists will rely even more on patronage. Law enforcement groups will shrink to very local government levels or become entirely private. I think we're going to enter another Dark Ages - not meaning an evil time, but a time where life goes largely unrecorded. Libraries and individual archivists will become local resources.
Then again, nobody died and made me Miss Cleo. That's just what I think will happen and I'm not very smart. I can already hear the snickering from the Information Age generations. (This is why they lock Renfield in Seward's Asylum.)
Hell, for all I know, Putin and Xi and Obama and Cameron and Merkel and Modi are all gonna stand up at United Nations and unveil a grand co-ordinated World Central Bank, and declare both a World Peace and World Police under Global Grand Vizier Nathan de Rothschild. Then they will all join hands and sing kumbaya, while Putin skips through the halls of the UN building delivering baskets of cheap plastic toys to all the children...
I would not be surprised if both things happened, last one first.
Democrats-vs-Republicans.
Both powered by Wall Street bribes.
West-vs-East.
Both powered by central bank bribes (debt).
Putin doesn't like the US gov.
"But what would you replace the state with ?
The question reveals an inability to imagine human society without the state.
Yet it would seem that an institution that can take 200,000,000 lives within a century hardly needs to be 'replaced'.
. . .
I miss the serenity of believing I lived under a good government,
wisely designed and benevolent in its operation.
But, as St. Paul says, there comes a time to put away childish things."
Joseph Sobran
Not sure if you are responding to me but I said without government.
An unfettered market and ostracism would suffice.
Thanks. Looks interesting.
Financial repression will have to be matched by some form of slavery, loss of civil rights and liberty and possibly dictatorship. First, our leaders will drive us towards world domination. Once they have subdued China and Russia they can suck the life out of other countries for awhile. When those resources are exhausted they will turn on the citizens of western democracies. Much of this has happened to one degree or another already, and it will not be orderly and linear. But ultimately to keep the plan going it will have to proceed to worldwide political repression. They have kept it up so far by presenting us with the "form" of democracy and freedom while stripping it of its substance.
Well, you might wanna get the debit card along with the absolutely Fareeee! 3% for the first six months, then 20% thereafter platimum credit card BEFORE repudiating the outstanding existing debt.
You know how ALL government sponsered banking cartels are, birds of a feather ;-)
Imagine getting a layoff notice, then being ordered to train your replacement.
That's what has happened to hundreds of information technology employees at Southern California Edison. Since last summer, Edison, which serves nearly 14 million customers, has been firing its domestic IT workers and replacing them with outsourced employees from India.
http://www.latimes.com/business/hiltzik/la-fi-hiltzik-20150222-column.ht...
I've been having fun with that at work.
They thought it a wonderful idea to fire perfectly competent people in my field and outsource it to________. Everytime I get a question, I hit delete.
Its really starting to pile up somewhere ;-)
So?
It's a public utility, maybe the IT workers are overpaid.
Most people in the US are.
Most people in the US are not overpaid. Most people in the US are underpaid if you take into account just how much "currency" there is per capita today versus 10-20-30-40 years ago.
I think what you are reaching for is the US Dollar is overvalued.
Overpaid as evidenced by the offered wages of the new hires.
In a free market of labor they are overpaid. As are nearly everyone else
They've had CSC doing the bulk of outsourcing for awhile - unqualified Acct Execs FUBARing entire IT Departments.
When I was hired to-be-fired there by Cult Monkies years ago (i'm guessing that the Con-Artists were accusing me of being some sort of Crazy Gay Chronic Masturbator/Rapist from the gossip(I'm none of the aforementioned) - they made several people go on "Sick/Disability Leave", then fire them - nasty M.O.), they had several dozen Business Analysts and Project Analysts/Managers - not many programmers; and had a SAP Implementation Planned (I'm skilled in that platform, too; but they didn't seem to match talent and projects too well there).
It's a matter of time until the Accountants(who probably approved of the outsourcing), Financial Analysts, and the Site Laborers get "outsourced" overseas or by "Green Card Holding" Employees...
I wonder how much they can save by a backoffice in Mexico - Tijuana for instance?
Heck, they can even hire all the "new" Site Technicians from there as well. During the week, they can just rent a room/sleep in their Car/SUV/RV, and shower at work/local Gym/YMCA...
BTW, here's some trivia for the Zionist-Watchers: One of the Antagonists happened to be a employees from an Israeli Contracting Energy Generation Firm (apparently, SCE can't do it themselves). I don't know if the Jewish were hostile; but I've had some not-so-friendly treatment from Xian A-holes and Jews-4-Jesus Cult Monkies during that time frame (due to the gossipmongers).
The real question is will you be able to open an account in a BRICS bank with the eventual plan of escaping The United Stazi States of North America?
Hmm, I think the real, real question is will you be able to escape when the time comes when you realize it is time to panic (because everyone else is).
Gonna guess no for most.
Do you have any natural resources?
"Reagan did not want to be Carter, but what he began was worse."
I was no fan of Carter for several reasons but he inherited a total mess from Nixon who decoupled the dollar from gold in August of 1971. It wouldn't have mattered who was president they couldn't have done a thing to save the economy at the time.
And since he couldn't do a damn thing he was impotant and the economy was as crappy as it gets. I was there working construction and it was not pretty. Reagan did the only thing he could do: expand the debt, expand the military and give the mother fuckers what they wanted. Boom! Building went wild.
I will never forget when my dad dragged me into his office in 1971 and told me our country had signed its death warrant and I must always hold Gold. Scared the crap out of me as a10 year old. Poor man would be shocked how long it held out. I guess he could fathom the tricks they would pull to achieve it.

I too have terrorized my children. I hope it sticks with them.......

Right about the same time my grandfather started paying me to mow his lawn with "junk" silver. With his 8th grade education he explained how these quarters and dimes were "real money" and I was to never spend them. I haven't spent a one but have added greatly to them.
Miffed,
Thumbs up to your Father on that one.
All you need now is a timeshare, apt, or a business addressed in CHE...
They could have done then, the exact same thing they could do now: told the people who 'owned' them to go to hell, return to an honest money system, and encourage a productive economic base. I'm not saying it would have been simple or is simple now, but that was what they were each responsible to do. That they did not, absolutely IS the fault of Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama... in fact, it is the fault of every president who deliberately made the economy worse with Keynesian policies that they knew would reduce the country to destitution. With each president the mess got bigger and worse, and the pain of doing the right thing greater. That does not absolve them from the blame for not doing the right thing. We're all busy taking a hard look at Greece and its leadership, but that scrutiny also belongs on the US, and maybe more so.
I agree that Carter inherited a mess. But if that's an excuse for Carter or Reagan, then it is for Obama as well, who also inherited a mess. Or Bush... or Clinton... (or Greece). They each chose the expedient thing over the right thing. In fact it would have been easier to do this in the 70s or 80s, as the US did still have some gold then. (Not enough to cover its account, but it had some.) Of course going back to economic policies in the national interest would have been very painful. But as we've all seen, postponing that pain is not good leadership. It is the path to doom. Inheriting a mess does not get a president off the hook for short-term bandaid, long-term destructive policy.
The central bank is the issue. Each president who continued to accommodate destructive globalist central bank policy, and hid this truth from the people, is at fault as a central bank accomplice.
I was living in Canada in the '80s. I remember well the outrage and anguish as productive work began to leave the US. They certainly knew what they were doing and were warned what would come of it.
They ended any hope of ever having an honest president once they offed JFK. The threat is there to anyone running for office... fuck with the FED, get a bullet. JFK signed an Executive Order limiting the power of the FED in June, 1963, in November, he was dead. In March 1964 the order was basically gutted by Johnson. Doesnt take a genius to connect the dots.
No he didn't.
http://www.freedomforceinternational.org/freedomcontent.cfm?fuseaction=j...
JFK, by signing EO 11110, gave the power HE had to his treasury secretary, Douglas Dillon:
JFK was not taking on the FED.
pods
Great article, thanks for the educational link.
Wait what? So the POTUS, by signing over his authority to a cabinent member HE electected, wasnt giving over his authority? Come on now.
Maybe you mistyped this but I really cannot understand your point.
Kennedy had the power to issue silver certificates. He delegated that away (actually for convenience due to the treasury sec not being able to issue certificates due to the repeal of the Silver Purchace Act), but his signing of the repeal of the Silver Purchase Act of 1934 directly contradicts his being the champion against central banking.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_Order_11110#Public_Law_88-36
EO 11110 was basically to streamline the end of the silver standard era. Public law 88-36 gave the FED the authority to issue small denomination FRNs, which would replace silver certificates.
Kennedy could not have been a champion for a cause he just destroyed by signing that public law allowing the FRN to replace small denomination silver notes.

The real decoupling from the gold standard occurred well before Nixon, with the prior policies of consuming more than the country produced. France wanted real gold for its dollars, as it was perfectly entitled. Given the excess of dollars floating around the world, if convertibility remained the US would have very quickly had no gold and been forced off the gold standard anyway. Nixon simply acted to bring that point forward and thereby conserve some gold in US government possession.
Carter therefore didn't inherit a mess from Nixon, he inherited a mess from the prior policies of US governments, particularly Democrats, of spending more than the country produced.
Perhaps so but then he totally lied about it and here we are with the average Joe having no concept of what happened nor why.
yes. there are white house tapes of kennedy in the early '60s discussing the outflowing tonnage of gold happening on a monthly basis (with some concern).
french were making lots of dollars in the golden triangle heroin trade, until the vietnam war.
That power looted America throughout the 20th century. It simply used America as its tool and its mask.
THAT is the point.
It was systematic and planned on all fronts. Get the studies and articles by the top 10 "Think Tanks" in the country for the last ten years and you will see it working out.
I love the "NEO-CONSERVATIVE CONTROL OF FOREIGN POLICY" heading.
So, Prez Obama and his radical Progressive administration has continued, escalated and started new conflics during the past 6 years... there is absolutely no way they fit under the Neocons banner! They are simply puppet dirtbag politicians just like the Neocons in the former Bush Admin. Next time stick to economics and keep your kindergarden view of politics to yourself there, "Dr.".
So why dosnt the world just take these crroks and kick thier asses cause We The People are so repressed that what the hell can we do
"I can hire one half of the working class to kill the other half"
That's OK.
We can always get the .01% of the bourgeoisie to whack the other .99%
utter and complete misuse of the term "bourgeoisie"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bourgeoisie
no way in hell that the independant middle class that told the nobility to pack salt equates with the 0.01%. That 0.01% is the nobility of our time, and they want to eliminate the middle class, facilitating the reversion to feudalism.
ignorant f**k...
Do you suppose he is a college professor, college student, or agent?
Not too many people remember the mini scandal that came out on the Clintons and Chinese money back in the 90's as usual it was all pooh poohed away by their praetorian guard the MSM but now looking back to where it has brought us after NAFTA, Most Favored Trade status, etc You can safely say HEY Stupid! You were sold out by BOTH parties. same as it ever was.
Anybody had enough, YET???
Yes that was on the back/in exchange for Rubin's leasing Chinese gold. So America had no production and no net income. We've been living on credit and that credit is about to be cut off.
That credit is about to be cut off by whom?
China. Actually I think this has already happened behind the scenes. I'm just waiting for the announcement, which will probably come sometime this year.
China? So they are no longer purchasing US Treasury notes with their trade surpluses?
I don't think anyone expects a complete stop on purchasing T-bonds from China or anyone else. That would be very stupid for all concerned, leading to worldwide chaos. But China is in 'repo' mode now. You shouldn't look at bond purchases, or interest rates, but at what American assets and resources China has been buying, and what they now own. Major western ports, for example... such buildings as the JPMorgan vault... some argue the "Fort Knox gold" is also now under Chinese ownership. A currency 'reset' would be probably be the time for that 'announcement' I referred to. As I said, I expect that will probably take place this year. (But as to the timing, whoever really knows isn't giving dates ahead of time to us the great unwashed.)
Well if that's the case, the United States better find a way to finance itself that doesn't include issuing interest bearing treasury notes.
Agreed.
finance is, ecologically, trading
horseshit for corn in a virtual, elemental, and
naturally essential paradigm.(image construct
aka. fiction or perhaps fantasy).
no?
IIRC, China and Russia are net sellers.
The printers (Japan now, EU soon) are buyers. We all know Japan and the EU are broke so this is like a game of hot potato in which each country/group racks up debt bailing out the others (primarily the US) until they are exhausted and then someone else takes over and so on.
It might something akin to ENRON and their shell companies. That didn't work out too well did it?
Correct and best encapsulated in just two months my Clark and Dawe

Ummm, well, the local gun show was packed as a motherfracker this weekend. I got some evil SS109s from a guy selling out of his car trunk like on the department of homo security videos, said a prayer with a guy even older than me, wore a RP T-Shirt and generally acted like a normal American of the Southern variety.
That friggin' place was asses and elbows. Everyone I talked to was fed up. Fed up with Chalky, fed up with his lies (not one person said 1 damn thing about his color), fed up with Congress. I met 3 fellow soul brothers who said the government was out of control (I have 10% Soul Blood).
Now, I will tell you something. Those dhs pigs act all powerful when it's 30 of them them, 2 MRAPS, full battle rattle, against 1 poor guy in his PJs at O-Dark Thirty.
Be careful what you wish for, Zionistas.....sometimes, you can push too far.
We, however, are very, very patient.
We fought your wars, Zionistas. We hate War, but you, Zionists, drafted us back in the day and taught us how to fight. These young boys can fight, too.
Now, I know I will probably get whacked if I live long enough. But, as an old soldier, I can clue you Zionistas in on something: we may go down, but it will look This, bitches:

Fake, manipulated markets, faked economic numbers, the never-ending war on manufactured terror, $60 billion on Homeland Security a year, $70 plus billion on NSA/CIA, a total over $1 trillion on National Security every year, a militarized police, most prisoners on this planet, infinite spying on everyone, 7 Muslim countries being bombed by the Noble Prize Winner, a burgeoning war in Ukraine, toxic GMO foods, fluoridated water, NSA spying on Supreme Court, Congress and White House - the land of the free is fast devolving into a perfect dystopia and Paul Craig Roberts has been warning about this for decades starting with his calling the 9/11 attacks as false-flag. The cancer is not only financial, it is political, social, ethical and in virtually every aspect of life in the land of the free
Nobody does it better than PCR. So he is scrupulously avoided by the mainstream media.

Team Americuh!
Fuck Yeh!
It is fiat (currencies) repression actually. Those central banks needs to be abolished asap! They are setting up a neofeudal system which is slavery! Burn them to the ground, and skin those banksters alive!
I can't help but love this guy. Not that I'll agree with his every word, but still. He's a fucking rable-rousing/ass-kicking mofo driven to talk truth to "power."
Here's the most conceptual analysis I've seen all day:
http://www.counterpunch.org/2015/02/20/greece-germany-and-global-finance/
They all know exactly WTF they're doing.
There is a solution: Corporations and their lackey interest groups must NOT be allowed to contribute in any form,
directly or indirectly, to political campaigns. The situation as it presently sits violates the "one man one vote"
principal in spirit and it does it in SPADES. This much should be obvious by now.
But the rich are plowing tons of money into the ignorant "liberty" community pushing bogus notions of free speech and property rights that they are loathe to reject (much as anything because they're insanely over-senstitive to accusations of envy/class warfare and have a perverse emotional resonance to Ayn Rand.)
Notice that the Libertarians have no public gripe about this state of affairs. Only the far left cries for controls on campaign "contributions."
A very astute, and correct, observation that likely will be ignored by many here.
The wealthy and powerful scumbags have played this game forever and one again they have found a group of useful clueless dupes. Same as it ever was...
What exactly are "bogus notions of free speech?"
Any how would you know whether "the Libertarians" have taken a positionon anything? NPR? Fox News? NYTimes? I doubt it.
"Free Speech" defined as expensed corporate money, aka opm. Following the original poster's description. When public political Free Speech becomes what money can buy via the media, financial warlords will rule. Especially since only they can supply the campaign contributions that candidates require to pay what is essentially blackmail just to get exposure from that same oligarchical media machine.
I don't see ZH railing against these tax deductable corporate contributions or the outsized political influence of the monied class following Citzens United. I don't recall Ron Paul ever crusading against it (more of a Ralph Nader thing, dontcha think?}.
Perhaps you know other people/places that would disabuse me of this false impression?
Mises dot org, maybe?
Here's an interesting example of exactly what I'm talking about:
http://libertyblog.org/2014/05/money-is-not-speech-really/
I think the best approach would be to simply ban all campaign related advertising, and give every candidate a web page to make their case. No more campaign ads of any kind whatsoever.
I think I see a slight flaw in your plan; how exactly will you get the 535 shills to do the right thing and bite the hand that feeds them?
xtra tartar sauce
Eliminate the hand.
Shill is a good word, but I'd like to see quisling used more often.
Personally, I'm fond of "catamite." Can't think of a more descriptive word to describe most politicians nowadays.
Corporations are people too doncha know.........
yeah, and if pigs had wings, they could fly.
One little problem with your solution--this america is NOT a democracy. What on earth makes you think the majority has any say these days about things that really matter?
won't happen -Supreme Court is bought off and owned -and not just the 4 Jews on the Court.
The central banks need a world war to distract from their collective failures. The added bonus (from their perspective) is a massive global human die-off.
The objective must be to get rid of the useless eaters and breeders without a global thermonuclear exchange. They have to get us to fight each other with a sustained series of false-flag attacks that will enrage the masses and invoke blind nationalism combined with religious prejudice.
Good luck with that endeavor.
but, it ain't really an american thing,
it is a global international bankster thing wearing
the beard of the american flag produced by
hollyweird and the diabolical, history distorting
(thru fantastic narrative), msm bullshit story
business model founded on a ponzi fake money,
fiat slave system designed to replace outright
ownership of human beings as property to be used,
abused, or eliminated as the "market" advises;
the ultimate aim being self aggrandizement,
as par usual.
Israel TV is quite different - the book I am reading tells a time when TV was only available in the evening. Hollywood is of course a Zionist production. Interesting what they promote here versus what they promote in their own nation which they call democratic.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_in_Israel
The book gives a story of a man who lost everything but was able to return to Israel and take a job in agriculture where the state provided him with all that he would need. The Good Jews by Sid Roth is the book.

but then ...
once again,
the train of thought is lost.
In Israel, the government gave to municipalities the option to remove flouride from their water. Sort of makes you wonder...
Growth.... we don't need no stinkin growth....
Soooo the good old USA is being systematically stripmined of all it assetts and productive resources for the benefit of entities that have no allegiance to anyone but themselves. GREAT. The question remains. What happens when there is nothing left to stripmine??? Could there be future gains from the carcas within the context of civil war? Seems to me that there is no better way to keep the proceeds from theft than to eliminate those that would have standing to reclaim what was taken.
Like chicken they will just boil the carcas.
I think the plan is to turn the North American population into renters and slaves, who live on land owned by international creditors, and for low wages process their natural resources to be shipped to those creditors. Don't think they'll mind if North America balkanises in the process, as long as it don't interrupt the flow of funds and resources.
that is it in a nutshell, well done,
and thank you for articulating the truth
directly.
Damn, it's like that "Cowboys and Aliens" movie and we ain't the Aliens!
What happens when there is nothing left to stripmine??? Why do you think THEY are saving (protecting) so much? Pay attention to who is behind conservation:
http://www.worldwildlife.org/press-releases/updated-brazil-wwf-and-partn...
In 2011, after a decade of traditional fundraising to support ARPA’s long-term costs, WWF teamed up with the Government of Brazil; Brazilian Biodiversity Fund, a private non-profit organization that designs and manages financial mechanisms for biodiversity conservation; Larry Linden, a former partner at Goldman Sachs, who founded the Linden Trust for Conservation (LTC); and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, to lead the creation of the long-term financing plan for ARPA.
The fund is unique in that it consists of money from a variety of public and private partners, including the Government of Germany, the Inter-American Development Bank, Global Environment Facility and WWF. The fund also provides the first-ever opportunity to properly manage and monitor a large-scale protected areas system
Below is the list of ARPA supporters. Statements from several of the supporters are included here.
Miss Expectations, Hank Paulson is in that list so surely it's all legit and the rainforests are in good hands.
Hank Paulson and the Nature Conservancy:
In November 2005, Goldman Sachs adopted an “Environmental Policy” that closely parallels the Nature Conservancy agenda on key issues like global warming. Moreover, Paulson’s son Merritt is a trustee of a Nature Conservancy-related group that was the recipient of a Goldman Sachs donation in the form of a tract of land totaling 680,000 acres in Chile.
In his remarks at the annual meeting, Flaherty also noted that the Nature Conservancy has been mired in scandal in recent years, as detailed in a Washington Post series and in Senate hearings. The group sold ecologically sensitive land at a discount to its own trustees on which they built multi-million-dollar vacation homes, and structured land donations so wealthy donors could improperly receive tax breaks.

The facts are in, we are doomed & I understand that. I wonder however, how long this can continue. I suppose it will so long as enough citizens keep falling for the deceptive leaders & media. We have seen them flat out lie and deny those lies even though these lies are on tape! We've seen several different news casts in which the puppets say the same thing, verbatim.
Nobody seems to care, and I'm betting it's because 1/3 of us have stocks and like what's happening there, out of personal interest. I can't blame them because they're human, another name for garbage. So these stock holders are being kept nice & quiet, just the way the goons like it. Honestly, I'm totally jealous & wish I had stocks too but instead I'm a trader, trading in a free market...dazed & confused day in & day out.
The sheep will never see the collapse coming. Never. They are simply too busy being entertained and could never conceive of the evil and corruption that exists throughout the world today.
And what are stocks going to be worth when we don't have a functioning economy? Right.
Better off doing what Alan Greenspan is recommending to his Council On Foreign Relations friends...
"Buy Gold!"
Year after year after year the same fucking idiots bleat on about the same fucking things...
'The central banks are so stupid'
'The rich want to get richer'
Wake UP Paul. Anyone with a brain knows that printing money is suicide.
Do you think Buffett and Soros and all the other billionaires --- who are already wealthy and powerful beyond their wildest dreams --- would want to have central banks printing trillions of dollars so that they could make a few billion more --- when they know bloody well that when this ends (and it will end) the world will be in tatters --- and their empires almost certainly collapsed
Give your goddam head a shake!!!
Why are they doing these seemingly insance things? What is it they fear?
Here is your answer - NOTHING else matters. We are facing the end of civilization --- and possibly and extinction event. The central banks are fighting for our lives. If they stop printing most if not all of us are DEAD.
In a finite world this was ALWAYS going to be the outcome. And here we are -- at the end game.
Be careful what you wish for.
THE PERFECT STORM (see p. 59 onwards)
The economy is a surplus energy equation, not a monetary one, and growth in output (and in the global population) since the Industrial Revolution has resulted from the harnessing of ever-greater quantities of energy. But the critical relationship between energy production and the energy cost of extraction is now deteriorating so rapidly that the economy as we have known it for more than two centuries is beginning to unravel. http://ftalphaville.ft.com/files/2013/01/Perfect-Storm-LR.pdf
"The central banks are fighting for our lives. If they stop printing most if not all of us are DEAD."
LOL...good! I hope the central bankers at least get to watch their children die...
I hope their children get to watch them fry -or hang.
Human civilisation does not rely on the existence of central banks issuing counterfeit money and bad debt, as much as governments and central banks would like you to think so.
Western civilization however... at this point in time unfortunately... does.
When it ends as it must... it is going to be extremely ugly.
Western Consumerism relies on banking fraud, Civilization, not so much.
No but it does rely on oil that can be cheaply extracted. And we have peaked out on that...
And the central banks are furiously doing anything they can to make sure the oil that remains gets pumped out of the ground - including collapsing the global economy.
But hey what the hell --- you could have had your collapse in 2008 or you get maybe a decade more where you get to eat...
I'll take the decade ---- because either way you be dead -- I be dead. When this plays out
"Do you think Buffett and Soros and all the other billionaires --- who are already wealthy and powerful beyond their wildest dreams --- would want to have central banks printing trillions of dollars so that they could make a few billion more --- when they know bloody well that when this ends (and it will end) the world will be in tatters --- and their empires almost certainly collapsed"
Yes. The scenario you describe is pretty much the endgame of how sociopaths operate. In good times, these people can really give an economy momentum. However, they have absolutely no brakes and a penchant for discounting anything that isn't immediately painful to them. That means that warnings are of no consequences in their decision calculus.
I shake my head daily Magooo.
The real shakers and movers are actually trillionaires and there are a handful of them. Wealth is a means to an end. Fiat currency does not mean squat to be honest. Wealth allows the purchase of tangible assets. Most of these rich people have enclaves ready to go if the real shit hit the fan. Complete with bought and paid for private armies with huge resources in remote areas complete with unpolluted aquifers and productive land. Follow the money.
You are correct in your assumption that they do not want the sytem to collapse. They want more power and tangible assets before we pleebs end up fucked. I take pleaseure in friends, family and like minded people that are not brainwashed into thinking everything is ok. Because it is not. I oftentimes laugh at some posts here where an individual will stand alone. Guess what they won't and cannot especially if they live ina large metropolitan area. Just not going to happen. Why?
Well the only way the real shit the fan moment will happen is when nukes are exchanged. Financial collapse to a mad max moment in todays world simply will not happen. Default, bankruptcy of a country is nothing these days. Default and start over is what happens now. Unless of course your defenseless. Then the financiers rape your country openly. But the raping is going on and as long as the pleebs have their handout to exist and thier social media and TV nothing is going to happen. I will be long dead before the wars start over real left over resources. The wars are starting though over this. The USA is trying to control the old silk road and this may well be our undoing fucking with Russia. they are not some small backwards country with no intercontinental threat to the USA.
Eventually all fiat currency will evaporate replaced with a new world digital currency so the one world government can control everything you do when money is involved. People will then barter and black market to get things as the human species does a great job of working around man made systems.
The only scenario I really see as a real SHTF moment is either a world war or ecological events causing a near extinction. Moeny in whatever form you want to call it be it sea shells, gold or fiat has been around since the human species started forming communities that cultivated the land and stopped the hunter gatherer mode. Money will be around when this moeny system collapses and is replaced. Hard times will happen and your naive to think otherwise.
My God the truth is ugly.........
ugly, but always with an enduring symmetry

then what?
We are no longers masters or even managers of our own land!
Remember what Jefferson said about 'private banks!'
Break Free of the Chains, Brothers!
(Pffft! Pfft! Argh!)
So should we let the US Post Office conduct simple banking activities? How about a state bank?
How about totally free, unregulated mints that coin your money (gold / silver) into baby bars and coins of your liking.
How about totally free, unregulated "banks " that collect and distribute your physical money in exchange for electronic purchases.
No insurance, no bail-outs, no government intervention. Rise or fall of said enterprises based solely on reputation and good and / or bad business practices. Good would win (out of a desire to prosper), and the individual would quickly learn or relearn to moderate / mitigate his / her own risk. Old school independence - responsibility for your own mistakes.
What would government do? Not much, basic stuff - standards, some infrastructure, etc.. no more than 7-10% flat tax scheme of some kind should more than keep that afloat. Keep most required governance at county level.
Oh, and no more public slave schools! what a sham...
So you want to exist in a power vacuum? It doesn't work in nature, why would it work in politics/economics?
Because politics and economics are constructs of man, not nature?
Good Lord there could be a power vacuum!...lol...nature laughs at you...actually it pays absolutely zero attention to you.
Construct of man or not, if there is a void, that void will be filled.
Nonsense. Without a monopoly of force government wouldn't exist because it can't compete with positive-sum economics.
Government systematically destroys any aspect of the free market that it takes over. Eventually, it becomes a predator than can't depredate.
The West in general, and the US in particular, is a slower aging Soviet Union.

Cain slew Abel, Seth knew not why
For if the children of Israel were to multiply
Why must any of the children die?
So he asked the Lord
And the Lord said:
Man means nothing, he means less to me
Than the lowliest cactus flower
Or the humblest Yucca tree
He chases round this desert
'Cause he thinks that's where I'll be
That's why I love mankind.

I guess you are making the case that since technology is out of the barn, people should probably arm themselves with the best technology they can afford?
I'd have to agree, even though I despise violence. As strange as it seems, well armed societies (the people) appear to stand the best chance for peace and prosperity.
Doesn't North Dakota have a State Bank?
Negative waves man, always with dem negative waves....cue in Donald Sutherland
Seriously, you can do something about it..currency diversification : cash on hand, some silver, some gold, maybe goldmoney, productive land, etc.
Groovy, man.

MAGOO,
I really fear you are right. I just wonder how long they can keep this afloat. Perhaps for many more years to come, but at a certain point, the peeps will begin to see what's really going on, and that may quicken the end game.
Yes, I agree.
The PTB cannot tell us what is really going on otherwise they will incite panic.
The closest we got to the truth was when Bernanke, in his farewell address said... 'I know a lot of people hate my guts --- but when they understand why I did what I did --- they will thank me'
Translate that to: 'We are right fucked because we've burned up all the cheaply extractable oil --- the world is about to collapse --- printing money is no solution but it will buy us a few more years --- when you are eating your neighbour's baby because you are starving --- you will thank me for keeping BAU running a bit longer'
So we get the lies and the green shoots and all the other bullshit --- because this is one truth nobody wants to hear.
Of course most people believe that the PTB are fucking us --- so eventually they will say enough is enough. I suspect that when the hordes try to burn the castle down they will be put down with whatever level of force is necessary.
Because if they succeed in burning the castle, it will be what is known as Phyrric victory .... it will hasten the end.

Paul Craig Roberts is the same guy that says 9/11 was an inside job (not the work of radical Islamists).
Mr. Roberts is also the same guy that says the ISIS folks beheading and burning Westerners aren't really radical Islamists, but rather Americans in clever disguises doing the deeds.
It's just one big, elaborate hoax, and only he and the 'smart' folks here on Zero Hedge are wise to it.
That silly goose!
Hey assssshophoclesTroll are they paying you well Mr 2 weeks 6 days?
Anything that refutes the phony Zero Hedge narrative is just a big conspiracy, isn't it, Bob? :-)
asophocles- I was unaware there was an official Zero Hedge narrative. I thought articles were presented and readers responded with comments. If, in your opinion, there is a "phony Zero Hedge narrative" why wouldn't you form a better argument. I totally understand your being here. It is probably the same reason I read and comment on NYTimes articles.
The thing I prefer about Zero Hedge over the NYT is all comments are posted here. At the NYT they have a reply box that states "share your thoughts." Then a group of moderators decide wether or not your thoughts are ok for print. You at least have to give ZH cudos for not censoring your thoughts like the NYT.
