Indeed, my grandfather ran a hardware store in southern Indiana through the Great Depression. He said it was really bad. So bad, in fact, he had to make his own job.
The 30's were great if you had a job. Prices dropped like a stone and wages were slow to follow. Of course you were constantly scared sh*tless you would lose your job, but as long as you had it things were good.
