Arms Race 2.0: Top Navy Admiral Warns China Now Has More "Fairly Amazing Submarines" Than The US
Continuing the theme first presented yesterday, when we showed that while America's financial situation is in dire straits, it is the strength of its military - that age-old realpolitik variable - or lack thereof...

... that may determine the longevity of the US Dollar as the world's reserve currency, overnight we learned from Vice Admiral Joseph Mulloy, deputy chief of naval operations for capabilities and resources, who testified before the House Armed Services Committee's seapower subcommittee that China "is building some fairly amazing submarines and now has more diesel- and nuclear-powered vessels than the United States," although he admitted their quality was inferior.
“They may not be the same quality, but their submarine forces are growing at a tremendous rate. They now have more diesel and nuclear attack submarines than we have,” the admiral told the lawmakers. “They are producing some fairly amazing submarines and they are actually deploying them.”
The top Navy admiral added that China was also expanding the geographic areas of operation for its submarines, and their length of deployment. For instance, China had carried out three deployments in the Indian Ocean, and had kept vessels out at sea for 95 days, Mulloy said.
Are the subs armed with nuclear ICBMs?
“We don't think they have nuclear weapons on board, but we've seen them producing the missiles and testing them,” the admiral said. "We know they are out experimenting and looking at operating and clearly want to be in this world of advanced submarines.”
So is America on the verge of another arms race? It sure seems like it based on the Admiral's implicit message that the US will need to catch up to China, if not in quality then in quantity.
U.S. military officials in recent months have grown increasingly vocal about China's military buildup and launched a major push to ensure that U.S. military technology stays ahead of rapid advances by China and Russia.
Mulloy said the quality of China's submarines was lower than those built by the United States, but the size of its undersea fleet had now surpassed that of the U.S. fleet. A spokeswoman said the U.S. Navy had 71 commissioned U.S. submarines.
In its last annual report to Congress about China's military and security developments, the Pentagon said China had 77 principal surface combatant ships, more than 60 submarines, 55 large and medium amphibious ships, and about 85 missile-equipped small combatants.
The real question is "who benefits." The answer: 'U.S. submarines are built by Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc. and General Dynamics Corp."
Who? Oh these guys:

And since we live in a Fed-controlled, M.I.C.-dominated world, it may be a good idea to buy the stock of these two dominant powers in the MIC, who are about to get an unexpected present courtesy of the nascent arms race resulting from the second cold war.
So is China's sub fleet really that technologically behind? We leave it up to readers to decide: in October 2013 we presented "First Glimpse Of China's Nuclear Submarine Fleet" in which we wrote "China has revealed that its first fleet of nuclear submarines has started sea patrols, in the latest sign of its military’s growing confidence which has raised concerns in the region. Xinhua, China's official news agency, released photographs of what appeared to be Xia-class vessels – China’s first generation of nuclear-armed submarines, which are several decades old – saying they were being “declassified” for the first time, adding with supremely colorful language that, the subs would "gallop to the depths of the ocean, serving as mysterious forces igniting the sound of thunder in the deep sea", and be an "assassin’s mace that would make adversaries tremble""

Poor game theory assumption. Trying to play the other side with expressions of weakness tend to backfire.
How?
Too easily tested by the other side,
So what? The less the enemy know of your capabilities, the better.
and too easily believed by your own people.
No, that's a bonus. It means more leverage come defence budget time.
And what about the affect on your allies??
It means they can get a bit more at the trough, too. Look! even the Americans can't detect these new plastic Chinese subs! We need more money!
And if done simply for the sake of hoping to gain a few more budgetary dollars, then it's especially stupid.
Wake up, dopey. Our military isn't here to defend us, or even themselves. Our military is here to snaffle as many tax dollars into the MIC as possible, while occasionally destroying any countries that give us lip.
You wouldn't be planning to run for President next election, would you?
Silly sheep. Like it matters who is president.
Just because it looks like it'll work using the stolen blueprints and tech from our stuff, doesnt mean the slave labor used to produce those boats, arrays, and offensive systems, actually build it right or to withstand the pressures, thermal layers or stress of combat manuevers. I'd be more worried about their wave-riding anti surface boat systems.
I bought a new 'made in china' shovel that looked exactly like the old 'made in usa' one I found at a garage sale years ago. Same manufacturer; looked exactly the same. Piece of crap busted in half after ten minutes of moderate use. The lesson here? Just because you make it look the same doesnt mean it will perform the same.
I have to ask: do you seriously believe that the Chinese make stuff for themselves of the same quality as consumer items made for a people who don't demand better anyway? De Nile isnt just a river in Egypt.
You have a point. However, if the quality control (or lack there of) examples consistently displayed across all sectors of Chinese manufacturing over many years good even vaguely true, then it's reasonable to expect many, many corners were cut in production. If the system is geared to rewarding fraud, ie. dilution of steel with lead so some corrupt manager can pocket the cost difference and buy another condo in Seattle or Vancouver, then those things have a way of failing at exactly the wrong times.
I am not saying we shouldn't be concerned, especially since half our captains can't seem to keep off of reefs or sand bars... But I think this just the usual 'we need moar fear' sales tactic to increase defense budgets.
Quite possibly; however, the U.S., as a major weapons supplier to the world is also vry sensitive to bad publicity --tends to decrease profits by a billion here, a billion there, until we're talkin real money.
Double Post,,,, This time it's the old "Maintenance" Thing,,, The site is off line,,, Try again later.
Correct,,, Mericans love 'cheap'. Mericans constantly brag about how cheap they got this or that. Since they love cheap so much,,, the producing nations of the world is more than willing to give it to them. And considering the only thing Merica has to trade is printed up dollars,,, can you blame them? Once they stop taking Mericas worthless fiat you will hear the whining and crying of a people without the skills or knowledge of how to build something right.
Speaking from Oklahoma, I have to agree with you. The pendulum will be swinging back the other way shortly, though.
What did they call those Chinese ships with all those sails?
Another stint by the M.I.C to exaggerate the enemy capability so that they con more defence budget out of the taxpayers.. US military budget is 47% of the world total , more than the no 2 to no 20 in the world combined!!
Why do I feel ZH is becoming more pro-militaristic, at least as long as it's being taken as being anti-Obomba?
All media is beating war drums now. It's like before BushCo invaded Iraq only with no specific party to point at only a general boogieman/terrorist which change daily from home to the otherside of the world.
Only now so called contrarian ZH is adding its grain of sand...
This is an old story. Create a big bad enemy who is creeping ahead in naval capabilites to justify a massive military cash influx to boost the USN submarine program. During the cold war, the naval literature was full of stories of Russian all powerful submarine fleet. While we knew that in actual combat, we had their forces well taken care of.
Washington DC is seeking to go into a new cold war and to set out on a mass spending program. I would like the ZH readers to offer their opinions on the American ability "financially" to go into a mass arms program, on top of the trillion dollars per year already spent.
If we can indeed print dollars to infinity, then there is no reason not to add 500 billion a year to the 1 trillion. In my opinion, congress and the zionist elites who rule Washington, are looking to boost military spending by about 100 billion a year over a five year expansion program. This is the ideal I think congress would like. Leaving US spending at 1.5 trillion a year by 2020.
What makes you think Obama has any love for Zionism
He obviously hates Israel and has placed many Muslims in high positions
I wish you would stop making it look like some powerful jews are worse than any other sect.
There is too much stupid Zio tribe crap here.
Islamic terror is not fake
Russia and China obviously also use disinformation just like the US.
I see stalemate and limited war.
You are correct about the banks creating enemies by financing them,,, like Germany in both World Wars. The u.s has transferred its production capability and the wealth it creates to China. The only thing allowing the u.s to inflate to the moon is the petro dollar which is slowly dying. Nations around the world are swapping currency's, gold and/or products rather then dollars. The u.s and its people are becoming more and more despised by our neighbors as a violent, dangerous bully... even by our "allies".
No, by watching all the lying and bullshit being spread about our economy it's readily apparent it in no way could sustain another huge calamity trying to print its way to King of the Mountain. Not saying they won't try it but regardless of how you lie about things,,, truth has a very nasty way of shining through.
How can the US have an arm's race with China when it outsourced most of its manufacturing to China?
But they still sound like a train coming down the tracks.
Dude it is directly proportional to the number of homosexuals in America compared to China. The more homosexuals a nation or NWO has the less likely it is to survive.
You genuinely think that there are more homosexuals in the USA than in China? Why?
Sure, there's probably a lot more 'outed' homos in the West, but that's quite a different thing.
Thanks to the One Child policy, there is currently a major poon tang shortage in China.
They will be looking to shed excess males, while conquering foreign females.
Russia will be the breeding ground. Tartar sauce galore.
Good point about the (relative) lack of females. Does that make more men go homo? Obviously, in prison, where there are no women, it does... but does that mean a 7% difference (or whatever) will have the same effect? Hmmm.
Looking at the average Russian woman, and the average Chinese male, I wouldn't want to be latter trying to take the former by conquest ;-)
It's not a bad thing. China currently gets free protection of trade routes for all intents and purposes. Yes, the US is fading, this is not a theory, it's not conjecture, it's just cold hard fact. China's busy preparing for a world where the US is not playing "world police" and needs to look after its own interests. China's not going to be starting a war with the US anytime soon. There might be some regional actions that China takes at some point which are in its own interests and being in a position to stave off a US response is just being responsible as a soverign nation. Actual war between the US and China? Not likely. China's getting all it wants with economics, why ruin that?
Please. This is nothing more than the US Navy admirals scaremongering to avoid resource cuts on future Virgina class subs that have been bantered about in Congress. These guys are still pissed the Russian sub fleet is almost entirely mothballed in Archangel, Murmansk, and Vladivostok with no real threat.
Yup. The 2/ yearsub agreement purchase for the Virginia-class sub was put on hold by the Sequestration and the US Navy Admirals want it removed. Can't move up the ladder if you don't have your toys to command and play with.
With the GOP back in charge in Congress, nothing like a little Chinese scaremongering to get those funds freed up.
Why would the US start a war it cannot win?
Perhaps it has no intention of winning it.
Just imagine all the broken windows... so great for the economy. Actually, the US getting nuked would probably be the best thing for it, it's just about the only scenario I can see where shit actually gets fixed.
90% on both sides are expendable.
With Russian technology China can become overseer of the South China Seas
how often has one heard this same old song and dance over the last 50 yrs.
anyone look at the mil. budget of the ussa vs. that of the rest of the world
where are they spending the money.
shit things like the F35 is a good example.
the ussa is not interested in winning wars only fighting them.
keeps the MIC in biz.
wake up, you fools.
A chart showing the number of people in the US Army is misleading and nothing more than propaganda. To get the true picture of American military force, we need the number of private contractors involved in military operations too. But they won't present a picture that might lead anyone to the conclusion we spend too much already. On the contrary, we will be scared into the false belief we aren't spending enough.
What aile in wallmart stocks chinese submarines.
Stay out of Chinese waters and we'll be fine.
You mean Taiwanese waters.
Good, I hope they have pity on us and nuke the 6 largest metro areas and DC...A Electoral College I can believe in.
Denigronification .... Welfare Reform ?
No Das Boots in the water ! No boots on the ground ! No Generals in the Pentagon ! No bullets for the people ! No arms for the people ! Are you starting to see a pattern ?
Our subs are more amazing than fairly amazing.
We got privately run armies now, not a good sign.
What's amazing, according to these charts, is how cheaply the rug-munching sluts in Congress can be bought off.
