Do Not Show Jim Bullard This Chart!
It's fact-checking time once again. Having questioned the credibility of Dallas Fed's Richard Fisher previously, we thought this morning's comments by St.Louis Fed's Jim Bullard were worth investigating:
- *DOLLAR EFFECTS ARE MARGINAL ON U.S. ECONOMY, SHOULDN'T INHIBIT GROWTH, FED'S BULLARD SAYS
Which just seems odd given the rest of the world's competitive devaluation efforts to 'improve' their economies. What we found will not surprise... but do not show this chart to Bullard.
h/t @Not_Jim_Cramer
It appears that in fact a stronger dollar is in fact disastrous for US company earnings (and one would thought implicitly the US economy)... but then again we don't have PhDs in economics.

@notjimcramer: love the not FCC aproved disclaimer.
Fuck Jim Bullard in the ass with a wooden dildo that is utterly unpolished and replete with splinters.
Jeebus, Tyler(s). He konws this. He's just jawboning and whispering sweet nothings in the ears of HFT machines - er, I mean, investors.
Remember: Up is down. If he says the stronger dollar won't hurt economic growth, he means that it will.
And it’s going go get a whole lot worse in the comming months...
It doesn't harm the U.S. economy if Coca-Cola earns less from India due to currency fluctuations. A lot of U.S. exports are technology goods that are less affected by a rising dollar. The U.S. is also highly financialized, the strong dollar will allow U.S. firms to buy up foreign assets on the cheap. In the end, it may not be good for the U.S., but it's going to be way worse for emerging markets that have trillions in USD denominated debt.
USA produce war and paper, what is "technology goods"???
The US produces a decent amount of software, particularly for business. Hardware, you're right, not so much.
Aerospace, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and plastics...U.S. exports are higher up the value added chain. Low cost exporters were wiped out in the previous three decades. http://www.worldstopexports.com/united-states-top-10-exports/2001
Does everyone here realize Bullard cured EBOLA? No kidding. Ever since the QE4 mention in Oct, I have not seen 1 mention of Ebola anywhere......
BTW why is the Euro cratering like crazy? -1.45% EUR/USD 1.119 . WTF?
Becasue I am going to France and the Netherlands in mid June.
It’s not cratering at all if you look to the big picture.
that’s where it’s all about these last few months.
American liquidity is drying up and all mayor currencies are letting the dollar go, so the dollar is rocketing up and cornering itself.
Europe is fixed, move along.
I wish the chart went back to 2005 so we could compare the last recession to today.
Thanks
Why else engage in currency wars?
What, okay, sense no one else will, let me say it, Rally on!!!
USD goes up, global terms of trade go down, trade volumes drop, Baltic Dry defecates in its bed.
Again, just a few ways that the dollar rally is totally awesome for everyone.
Something about supply lines breaking, and we know what then crosses borders.
Dem S&P earnings done shit their pants real good, when the $usd was strong.
Good FCC did not see that graph. I wonder how much it will cost to visit Zero Hedge through ABC in the coming months? Typing in comments will probably cost a dollar each.
We used to have central banks that thought their role was to prudently provide liquidity in times of financial stress to good credits at high rates of interest. Now we have hyper-leveraged quasi-governmental hedge funds "secretly" hoovering assets of all kinds. The Borg, who arrives at the table with a secret machine that manufactures as many chips as it needs. Trade accordingly.
USSA exports were 'only' $2.3 trillion in 2014 ...highest on record. They better start hoping strong dollah is ' transitory '.
Bullard - STFU!!!
You're an asshole!!!
We need some one arm economists - orrrrrr, come over her Jim. This won't hurt a bit!
These ass clowns need to make up my mind.
First the say a depreciating currency and printing is bad. They go on to support this statement by pointing out how bady Japan is doing.
NOW you get these articles that say just the opposite how an appreciating currency is bad for business and profits..
I will take a stong currency any day. At least I can buy more shit with the money I have.
